Re: Off-Topic
Customer service is a dying part of businesses and it sucks.
I had to wait on hold for 40 minutes to talk to someone back when I first called them. Live chats are so much better, but ISP live chats aren't always the best because those people aren't allowed doing as much compared to the phone reps.
Part of me feels like they're doing it on purpose because I switched to a new plan that they offered. So every day that they take to switch me over, I'm literally losing money since the plan I'm switching to is cheaper, so still being stuck on the old plan costs meLast edited by Majingir; 12-04-2020, 06:46 PM.Comment

Re: Off-Topic
There was a thread on here about the death of customer service...it was amusing and of course dead-on.
There was a Wall Street Journal article some time back which was all about how customer service actually is much worse than prior - it's not your imagination - and even worse, it is by design. As companies have gotten increasingly good (or think they have) at determining which factors do and don't cause customers to spend less money, they've been effectively able to "min/max" their resources solely into those activities that directly contribute to profit. In other words, the amount of money/resources it takes to provide good customer service is not returned by increased revenue or retention (or any other dollar-based metric). I know we all think it matters, but the companies have the data and they say it doesn't. This becomes even more true as more and more companies abandon even basic customer service.
At some point, one would hope that someone could distinguish themselves (and more importantly to them, profit) in an increasingly poor/absent customer service world by providing phenomenal customer service, but I'm not holding my breath for that day. The bottom line is the ISPs don't care about you because if it costs them 0.25 man-hours to hold on to you as a customer, it's cheaper for them to ignore you outright and take the risk you'll leave (which most don't, by the way). They can just sign up some other new customer at a discounted rate and it's still a more profitable course of action than making you happy.
Sad state of affairs indeed.Comment

Re: Off-Topic
I had a support ticket submitted days back for some issue I was having with my ISP.
I finally get a call today....except the call was to inform me that they'll call me when there's an update.
So they called me to tell me they'll call me when they have something to call me about...makes sense.
At least they let you know they are still working on it and to be honest that's more reassuring then being left to try not hearing from them at all.
Generally, any ticket being worked in situations like that should/will require a reach out at some point regardless of if there is a solution or not.Comment

Re: Off-Topic
Would you rather they call you to tell you they don't have an update yet or rather they just not call at all?

All this is about a new deal i got from them. Sounds too good to be true since it's almost 50% off their full price, so I was hoping they'd get it resolved asap before I get some "Unfortunately we are unable to apply that promo to your account" message. Although I have a verbal agreement with them, so hoping that means something.Comment

Re: Off-Topic
Are you experiencing any symptoms? I went through it the week before Thanksgiving. Was pretty wiped out for a week but other than some lingering fatigue I‘m fine now. Never had a cough or breathing problems, but had awful fever, muscle aches, loss of smell/taste, and fatigue. I’ve never been more consistently tired/run down in my life than I was for that week. It was physically taxing to take a shower...
Rest and drink lots of water. If you are having a bad fever and aches, ibuprofen is a big help. Just make sure you eat something when you take it.Comment

Re: Off-Topic
I felt ill at work on Oct 31st. Called off the next day.
Work had me get tested and I was positive.
Put in Quarantine at home and about 3 days later I hit rock bottom.
Wife called the 24/7 nurse supplied by work medical told wife to take me to ER.
Spent 7 hrs there. Had a ct scan, blood, urine, stool etc.. all done and then they put me on IV as I was mega dehydrated.
Turned out I also had C-Diff (Bacterial Infection) also so I had to go on meds for that.
So basically I have no idea if the Covid or C-Diff was the worse thing.
Finally got cleared and am back to work as of this past Thursday.Joshua:

I’ve had a fever off and on. Same with a light cough.

Re: Off-Topic
Guess I'll join the list.
Good news, I really doubt I have THE virus.
Bad news, I likely have A virus.
I mean it is flu season and all. I dont have the flu, but germs regardless are all over especially this time of the year. Past few years I've only seemed to get sick around December, and it seems to be a similar illness every year. Ever since the pandemic began I didnt even have a headache or runny nose or anything for those 8 or so months.
Sucks to get even a common cold or something since every diagnosis nowadays is "could be covid".
Even though I'm 99.9% sure it's a regular kind of illness, I gotta start making sure everyone stays well away from me, which sucks too since some are still going to work, so this could impact them too even if they're 100% fine and nothing even spread to them. In a regular year, no problem. In 2020, flags go up everywhere.Last edited by Majingir; 12-08-2020, 12:47 AM.Comment

Re: Off-Topic
Scott, hope you're doin' alright. Hang in there, bud.
Majingir - sorry you're ill as well! Your post is funny because it contains a lot of 2020 truths. People forget that regular colds/flus happen too(!). But these days it's like you're a leper if you have a mild sniffle. I guess you can't be too careful but it's gotten a little extreme. I have a mild dust allergy, which causes me to sneeze and have a runny nose for maybe 15-20 minutes before it just goes away/tolerizes, but during that time, I have to sequester myself as far away from anyone as possible and assure everyone that I'm not sick and that it will go away within the hour. Very annoying.Comment
