    Re: 2021 Fitness Adventures

I finished the year with 4,351 cycling km -- a personal best -- but still well off my personal goal at the start of the year of 5,000 km.

I think to get the time I need to get 5,000 km all I need to do is to stop working. Winning the lottery would be a good start. Since that's probably not a realistic goal, I'll have to aim for more winter cycling. Last year, I only did 80 km combined in January and February. I need to suck it up and get out there more.

Have you thought about getting a bike trainer? If you use an app like Zwift and a trainer that can adjust resistance then it's a pretty good alternative to going out in the freezing cold. I'm not much of a biker, but I always found Zwift helpful to keep me motivated since I could do it from home and I could even connect with friends and virtually ride with them.

I've thought about it. I do virtual hikes/jogs on a treadmill with IFit. I do have an old school exercise bike (can't do virtual rides with that. I just watch YouTube cycling videos instead). I just can't count the rides I do on an exercise bike (or a trainer) toward my goals. Seems like cheating if you're not putting up with the real elements -- the weather, the surfaces, the traffic, etc. I'm weird that way and it's just my personal opinion. I actually don't mind riding in the cold unless it's windy.

I was doing really well towards the end of the year with my workouts. Peloton bike & strength classes, some additional weight training, and a lot of boxing but my diet was absolutely trash, especially at night time.

Well, then I caught COVID (still have it now) and I feel absolutely drained but much better than the first 2-3 days. I have sort of gotten my diet in check a little but I need to just start slowly while I try to get my wind back. I can feel it going up stairs. Hopefully it's just a matter of time and no long-term setbacks.
