Sweet Jesus, why is every interesting thread being locked?
In the Madden forum of all places where posters tend to disagree and debate more often than any forum in this place. I'm normally not the one to complain but whenever a thread gets nice and juicy, someone comes in and locks it. Not IGN, flamebait juicy but just a heated debate. This has went on for quite some time in the Madden forum. If someone feels like they've been insulted, why cant they just report to a mod themsleves? We're big boys, most of us should be able to handle being called a few names. It not like somebody comes in and flatout calls somebody a bitch. Good gawd, you guys are ruining my day. There have been many times I sat and typed out an eloborate, well though out post only to click and get the "this thread has been locked" screen of saltiness. And you guys wonder why debates get carried over to diffrent threads. I know I can be a argumentive bastard sometimes but damn, you guys are killing me vibe. Thats right, "ME VIBE".http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Tags: None -
Re: Sweet Jesus, why is every interesting thread being locked?
The one I locked today was carried over from another previously locked thread and specifically called out one user. If he wanted to discuss his issue with that user, he should've used the PM system.
The problem is that most posters CAN'T handle being called names like big boys. That's what results in many of the problems. Not to mention a whole slew of other things, but it's really not worth getting into.
Lately I think many of the threads have been given a MUCH longer chance than they deserve to be given. Then again, that's just my opinion.Comment

You also have to remember that while some may appear like they can dish it out and take it... we get a lot of PMs, IMs and emails about threads from one side or another that kind of force our hand.Originally posted by GraphikIn the Madden forum of all places where posters tend to disagree and debate more often than any forum in this place. I know there is a popular opinion around here that the Mods actually enjoy locking threads. That's not the case. Hell... I'm sure we all wish there wasn't a need for Mods around here. But there is. So we have them. And they lock threads. Are they always right? No. Do they occasionally get unlocked later? Yes.
I understand your frustration, but ask some of the many, many people who at one time have Mod'd this forum. It's not easy. There is no glory. It's damn thankless. And even if Steve gave them a 2000% raise... it's still donated time.Listen to The Remodeling Clay Podcast!

Thats the thing, it carried over but no one went out of line. It was simply shaping up to be a thorough topic. I'm sure someone would have eventually went there but there was nothing wrong with it thus far.
My whole thing is if a thread gets way over 60-80 post, its pretty much off topic as it is. When one or two posters start going at it late in the thread, then a mod pops up and closes it saying it was OT. The fact is some of the threads are pretty interesting and if someone gets called a name or gets called out, why dont you guys just issue a warning or banning instead of just closing the entire thread. It seems as if the most active and interesting of threads gets the lock when there is nothing but mostly harmless debating going on.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

I have grown to realize that being a mod is no easy task. Yes, sometimes they jump the gun on locking threads, but the guys are just regular posters, they aren't "trained" for these duties nor do they recieve any "glory" as you said. But that doesn't mean we can't give them a hard time.Comment

Re: Sweet Jesus, why is every interesting thread being locked?
Believe me, I almost never complain about the way the mods run this site. 99% of the time, when a thread is locked, it was meant to be. There are alot of times however when it seems that a thread was locked simply because it went OT which really is'nt hurting no one.Originally posted by Clay_OSYou also have to remember that while some may appear like they can dish it out and take it... we get a lot of PMs, IMs and emails about threads from one side or another that kind of force our hand.

I'm cool now, I only made this thread because I think this is the 6th time this month I made a post only to see that it was locked after I clicked the submit reply botton. That gets frustrating after a while.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

Re: Sweet Jesus, why is every interesting thread being locked?
My only suggestion would be to hand out more discipline to individual users rather than quickly lock a thread. Giants threads were being locked on an almost weekly basis because the same group of posters would get into the same tiresome arguments. I know it was frustrating for a group of us to not be able to post about our team thanks to the actions of a few morons.Comment

Even more frusterating when you are writing a reply, and you can't post it because it got locked while you were typing.Originally posted by GraphikI'm cool now, I only made this thread because I think this is the 6th time this month I made a post only to see that it was locked after I clicked the submit reply botton. Re: Sweet Jesus, why is every interesting thread being locked?
My biggest problem was that the user who made the thread was calling out another user because he didn't get to make his final point before the other thread was locked. If he really felt a need to speak to the other poster about what they were discussing in the locked thread, he could've PM'ed him.Originally posted by GraphikThats the thing, it carried over but no one went out of line. Not to mention the thread was another "EA is the Devil" type threads - which has been beaten to death more times than I care to count. It was bound to end up ugly. Maybe I shouldn't have been proactive and been reactive when the thread did turn ugly, but I wasn't. If there is any other Mod/Admin that feels it should be opened, please open it.Comment

I understand that and he was wrong for doing so but the thread seemed to start off in the right direction. As for the EA is the devil threads, there are few that start off like that but all of them end that way. I thought most of you would be used to it now. It may be annoying to some but they are usally the most active and entertaining threads nonetheless.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

Re: Sweet Jesus, why is every interesting thread being locked?
Is there an option for deleting unwated posts instead of closing the whole thread down? When a thread goes off topic, delete the off topic posts, send a PM why and keep it moving.
I guess its easier to lock a whole thread.Comment
