That is true. Then again, when there was talk like that, nothing was done about it. Not blaming the moderators because I can imagine the job is tough enough but someone would say (for example) "Came home, blazed up, and I'm now enjoying The Show." The next post would be something completely different and nothing was done about the previous post. I admit, I don't always like reading that crap either or reading how someone is wasted and making stupid posts, but nothing was done about those posts. Maybe if some of the mods would have came in and said "Knock it off with the drugs talk" more often less people would have said stuff like that.

I think it's great. It shows people care about OS. Obviously, people enjoy the forums enough to donate at least $20 of their money to support Steve and the rest of the gang. It'd look worse if nobody gave a crap IMO.

There actually were warnings given out in the thread numerous times about drug talk. I personally loved the Off Topic thread, but it got so ridiculous at times that it was best just to close it down.

I don't think it is great. I think it is weird. That people would get upset so easy. Also, I donated so I could get a blue name and my own avatar.

          Re: Off-topic thread closed WHY?

Here's my advice to the people here:

MaddenMania had the SoapBox forum. The forum's moderators constantly complained about having to police what went on there. Many times they would say they were a video game site 1st, that the SB was an annoyance. They went from being Nazi's about it to letting the inmates run the asylum. One end of the spectrum to the other.

Because control became nil, many of the "old timers", including myself, virtually left. Later, one of the mods went on a super macho ego trip & offended the guys who populated the SB. Initially, the mods took a "Who cares? Good riddance" attitude. Those that were left in the SB exited, en masse.

MM is a ghost town now. Because the mods didn't recognize how much the off topic forum meant to the site. And because the posters didn't recognize the need for restraint.

I say this because I see the comments here reflect what happened @ MM. Mods think a place to just let guys be guys is not worth it. Posters think they should just post anything & not care about who is offended. Balance is needed.

Mods, you need an off topic place.

OS, you need to exercise control.

          My 2.

It all started to go down hill when people starting talking about that weak sport soccer.

It was the best way to get to know guys imo, the Arena/blog doesn't work well since you have to check every person's instead of a single thread to see what people are up to.

Nobody is upset. I know I'm not. I liked the thread but it is what it is. Nobody is calling anybody Mod Nazi or claiming their first amendment rights are violated. People are voicing their opinions, which I think is a good thing. That's how OS has evolved.

And if you paid $20 for a different colored name and the ability to put a different picture other than a logo up on an internet forum, then you're the one that's weird. Sorry bro, but if that's the only reason you donated, than you just wasted $20.

Speaking of which, I really need to donate again.

I like blue. It matches my eyes. And when I mean get upset I mean when some one says something about them they seem to get upset. Like the guy that said shesh or the mod that said take it easy. That is is all I mean. I think some times people get upset way too easy.

The theme under OS neighborhood reads, "Get to know the OS staff and the OS community (or something like that.)

This was really the only thread where you could get to know the rest of the community.

Sure, you get others opinions in others threads, but it OT you really learned about others.

I didn't post there much, but I enjoyed reading it on a daily basis.
