Backup keepers regularly starting for CPU teams
Hi guys. Just noticed an annoying problem with AI team management. I'm playing a career with Manchester United and I noticed that several AI controlled teams play their second or even third string goalkeepers regularly. Schwarzer for Chelsea, Friedel or Vorm for Tottenham, and the best keepers are benched... Frustrating to say the least. I'm on PS4. Any chance to fix it? Thanks!Tags: None -
Re: Backup keepers regularly starting for CPU teams
I would like to take a stab at this question.
EA gave most players very unreasonable player roles (in their contracts).
If you go to the contract page a click on any player, you will see on their current contract: crucial or important...... This is the reason your 55-64 overall rated players are mad that they are not playing enough.
Everything above is fact. Because of those problems, I believe it pushes the CPU to rotate their players WAY to much (especially the keepers).
Just is just my guess.Southern Miss-Southampton -
Re: Backup keepers regularly starting for CPU teams
Currently on season 2. I'm looking at this right now.
Man City- Caballero: 16 games
Joe Hart: 4 games
Man U- Lindegaard: 22 games
David De Gea: 1 game
Everton- Howard: 13 games
Robles: 8 games
I've also seen waaaaay too many goalkeepers changing teams during the transfer period and going to clubs that don't need them. Man U ( who isn't starting De Gea) picked up Luke Daniels. Chelsea signed Begovic. Spurs let Lloris go to Juventus and then picked up Diego Alves. Just a bunch of irritating, unrealistic stuff that kills immersion.
De Gea: Crucial
Lindegaard: Squad rotation
Hart: Important
Caballero: Squad rotation#LFC

Good stuff.
I'm glad to be wrong. But that means the fix will be a lot harder.

Re: Backup keepers regularly starting for CPU teams
I know different teams at EA work on them, but NHL '14 had the same problem with goalies. A lot of the backups played more games. I don't understand why this is a problem. In every other sports game I've played, it's ALWAYS the higher rated guys getting playing time. Doesn't make much sense to me. The De Gea thing really kills me. That guy is one of the hottest goalkeepers in the world at the moment and he's not even on the PITCH in FIFA 15. Smh.#LFC

Re: Backup keepers regularly starting for CPU teams
It isnt unlikely to see Hart moved around from starter to bench..Its happened numerous times over the last couple years....And I see that a lot too in MM. I just take it that they lost their spot due to form. Other than that..oh wellUconn Basketball

Re: Backup keepers regularly starting for CPU teams
Well, this could be true for Hart, but totally unacceptable for Schwarzer, Friedel, Robles or Lindegaard. Courtois, Cech, Lloris, Howard and De Gea are way better...Comment

Re: Backup keepers regularly starting for CPU teams
Well, I did some testing. I bumped all of the star keeper's ratings up to the point there should be no way they would sit. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter. It's all about form. In THEORY, that makes sense and seems like a good thing, but the problem is, let's say De Gea has a bad game against a high scoring squad like Chelsea. Next game, they start the backup and he finishes .1 higher in form. Welp, chances are he's going to be starting for a while, because the game doesn't give allowances for having just a single rough performance against a great team. It sucks, because there's nothing we can really do about it. Only thing I can think of is, the next time you play that team, turn down goalkeeper ability, run the score up on the backup, and hope that he gets pulled for the starter in the next game.#LFC

Re: Backup keepers regularly starting for CPU teams
I'm on PS4, too. I just edited ratings before starting a new season and then did some simming to check results. The ratings aren't really the problem though, it's the player's form that causes the backup issue.#LFC

Re: Backup keepers regularly starting for CPU teams
PPerfect_CJ, bingo! Thanks to your advice, I edited the goalkeepers stamina values before starting a new season, lowering the backup keeper's values and bumping the star keeper's ones up. Simmed a lot of games and now CPU teams always play their best keepers. Other parameters don't affect the CPU choices, so that's the point. Keepers as De Gea, Courtois etc. have incorrect stamina rates, way too low.Comment

Re: Backup keepers regularly starting for CPU teams
Like CJ, I also believe player form is the primary culprit. I like to check out my upcoming opponents stats prior to the match. Before my showdown with Man Utd, I noticed Lindegaard had many more appearances than De Gea. Looking at their form rating in the far right column revealed something like 73 to 58 in favor of the backup. I guess De Gea had a few bad matches followed by Lindegaard doing well.
I doubt this completely outweighs ratings, but if you look at the squad ranking screen for your squad, you'll see the impact. A large form discrepancy will rank a lower rated player higher than his better rated teammate. I assume the CPU uses this or similar logic to evaluate its squad.
I'm not sure about fatigue, as my keeper rarely dips below 100%. I think it plays a much larger part in the outfield player rotation that can also be somewhat excessive. I've seen some odd teams when watching various YouTube or Twitch CMs. I haven't seen as much outside of a few backup keepers, but I'm only in late November of my first season.Last edited by Qb; 01-03-2015, 09:08 PM.Comment
