Re: Custom Tactics Discussion
I tested for around 5 hours tonight and could not get much going on the long ball tactics. I did get them hitting a few a game or not at all, but I could not find any combo to get them consistently hitting them at a high number. Seen a lot of good stuff with build up slow and fast along with crossing, so certainty some good adjustment options there along with the d. At this point I would say you guys are right that sliders may play some role in this or long ball may just be broken again. Will keep at it though.
Here are the setting I had the most success with the long balls all using the OS Community sliders on WC:
Speed:21
Pass:90
Pass:89
Cross:75
Defensively I think we can do some cool things to change how they defend us. Could/Should open up the game offensively a little more as I've been noticing some ppl (myself included) having troubles scoring on WC. High lines (offsides trap), varying degrees of pressure & aggression, etc...
Thankfully not many clubs play long ball exclusively.Comment

Re: Custom Tactics Discussion
They don't, but in 14 it was sooooo nice to play a team who would just go full rugby against you, as you had to change how you were playing. Had to push your CBs back further, etc.
I should have more time to play around tonight as it's Friday—still hoping to unlock the long ball mystery.
I couldn't get a team to build up really slowly and patiently last night until I switched to Pro. Once I did that, I saw what I was hoping for.Comment

Re: Custom Tactics Discussion
Are you on twitch?
I think most teams on default buildup pretty slowly and realistically. They take what you give them and if you don't drag players out of position (my biggest problem) they will work it around to find the gaps.
What's missing IMO (besides the aforementioned long ball) is the CPU just driving at you with a dribble making a long run.
I was up early today watching the English Championship highlight show from last week and even there you see players occasionally making long gut - busting runs right into the heart of the defense. It's more of an individual trait though which for some reason you can't edit this year. I was trying to make Messi more Messi-like.Comment

Have you been playing with the community sliders, or default?Comment

Re: Custom Tactics Discussion
I always wondered how it would work to have different line settings for different team play styles. Width is a custom tactic, but the other ones are not. Not sure why it is setup that way. Not a slider expert by any means, so not sure what it would do to gameplay.
I've read others around the web suggest doing something like that, I guess the best way is to try it out. although I'm not sure the best way find information on how teams take shape? I think teams that park the bus and play with ten men behind the ball would need to have line height lowered, or perhaps that is not correct?
Nice work everyone, enjoying the discussion.Comment

Re: Custom Tactics Discussion
Maybe you guys could look at S****horpe in League 1. I've played against them twice now, and both times in the first half they played lots of long bolls with regularity. Maybe 10-12 in the first half. But then didn't play a single one in the second half after being down a goal or two. Not sure what their tactics are, but you could take a look to see why they do that in the first half.
Really, the name of that team is filtered out. S c u n t h o r p e

Re: Custom Tactics Discussion
Yeah I'm on some version of them BUT I really don't even play to win when testing these like I'm sure you do. For example, to try to get them to long ball I just hoof it up field. For counter I push a lot of guys fwd with mentality and runs and intentionally lose possession in their 3rd.

Re: Custom Tactics Discussion
Nice. Thanks. Has anyone else been testing using default sliders when testing tactics? I used the OS sliders for my tests last night, but I tried default pass error and speed this morning and first game I seen a similar thing with 4-5 long balls in the first half of a game. Did not have time to test more, so could be placebo, but pass error is known to jack up crossing, so it could do the same with this.Comment

Yeah, it's pretty easy to set up.

Beat AV 3-1. Scored on a cracker from Walcott, a CHEAP free kick (Guzan basically just stood there and it went in off his hand--was pretty lame), and a PK from Cazorla late.
Playing on pro, default, slow speed (all same as Zo mentioned). My only complaint(s) were that the passing was 89% AV to 81% me (ARS)--and the cheap free kick--but I don't chalk that up to anything really other than it just being a video game, lol.
Curious to know where you guys are at re: tactics/thoughts. I am super eager to get my Arsenal MM started, but am willing to wait if you think tactics work and/or provide a better game of football.Arsenal | New York YankeesComment
