Re: FIFA 16 Teach Me How/Strategy Thread

Can someone explain to me how whenever I play online the opponent's defenders always seem to be able to catch me as I am running down the sideline and just take the ball away from me yet when I try to do the same I am always outran? My players have high pace (90+) and this is happening at all stages throughout the game so I don't believe its a stamina issue either. Happens all the time and I'm not sure if I am doing something wrong on both sides of the ball or not.

Re: FIFA 16 Teach Me How/Strategy Thread

      A couple questions I have:

-Can I send a player on a run? Sometimes I want my winger or LB/RB to go on a run to open space and they just stand there. I thought PES had a "make a run" button.

-Are there any settings/formations that would get my guys to make those runs?

-I've always been horrible at dribbling in FIFA. In fact, I think I'm pretty good for not really ever doing dribbling moves. Are there any basic ones that I should master that would help me create space or beat someone 1 on 1? My only move is to basically sprint alittle bit, hit L1 to stop, and cut in the opposite direction.

Sounds like they are pushing the tackle button from behind once the ball is away from your feet and they end up sliding between the dribbler and ball? When they are coming from behind push LT/L2 to protect the ball and push the defender off of you. You can press it for an animation and if your dribbler is physical enough he will push the defender off.

If you use the knock on, flicking the right stick, and have the pace advantage they shouldnt be able to catch up from behind though. If you just dribble normally with sprint they will catch up.

          1. LB/L1 to send players on runs.
          2. Yes, individual instructions for LB/RB to "Always overlap"
          3. L1 is now no touch dribbling so I'd work on that new mechanic instead of using it to stop. Basic dribble move: flick the right stick stick and use the left stick to choose a "finish direction". Or hold it for a ball roll. I'd master the those first. Use the trainer and try to never a defender get within your circle.

Thanks for the tips guys. Played 5 games with Manchester United. Won the America Cup tournament using the Community Sliders on World Class. Good mix of teams I played. Beat Inter in the semis and then beat Bayern Munich on penalty kicks after 0-0.

Didn't use sprint as much on D and did pretty well. I also learned to use the finesse shot button and that really helps. Dribbling is still tough, but I was more patient and adjusting some roles really helped get the attack I wanted.

Thanks for the tip. Played a few games and using the right stick has definitely helped me get farther ahead when I have space.

Another question, is there any type of tactics I should set up pregame for my players to stay on their mark? Too often my defenders will just kinda stand around while the opposition runs past them allowing them to be wide open for a pass.

This is legitimately impossible. It won't happen. You need to find a work-around or focus on other aspects of your defense in order to keep the CPU from scoring.

They will stand, they will ball watch, they won't consistently do anything. Abandon the notion that it's possible and find the AI's exploitable weaknesses.

Well, I'm playing online not against the computer. It seems like, more often than not, their players are staying on their mark better compared to my own. But maybe its my poor passing that leads to that illusion.

Any tips on the defensive side of the ball though given what you said?

Oh right on, sorry about that. I just assumed you meant against the CPU.

Either way, I haven't found anything that helps other than manually switching using the right stick and doing everything you can to keep your players in position and trying to avoid bringing anybody out of position, as a lot of times other players will move to cover the empty space you've left. Which may or may not apply to you.

Using England in a tournament this weekend. Could anyone give me a good formation to use and roster? Like what players in what positions for the England team. Thanks!

I just made the switch from semi-pro to pro and now I'm struggling offensively. On semi-pro I could score by attacking the flanks with my pacey wingers and then cut inside (like Robben always does in real life). Now on pro that doesn't work any more, which is ok for me, I wanted more of a challenge, thus the switch of levels.

Now most of my games (pro, 6 min per half) end 0-0 or I end up losing if I concende. Every now and then I'm able to score but that is more out of luck than skill.

Do you have any good attacking strategies for me?

This was something I received from a person when I was learning how football to play FIFA. Hopefully it helps others... It is based of a few iterations ago of FIFA
                              ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the EPL, there are a number of trophies you can compete for.

Community Shield: (I may be wrong here, as I follow Bundesliga more, so someone correct me if necessary) This trophy is played in August between the winners of the league for the previous season and the winners of the FA Cup. In FIFA 14, the first community shield should be between Manchester United and Wigan.

Capital One Cup: This trophy is played between all four leagues (I think) in England. For the top tier teams, this is generally a trophy that is less important.

FA Cup: IRL, I believe it is played between every professionally registered team in England above the Blue Square Premier. Generally, it is considered the trophy most important domestically behind winning the Premier League.

Premier League: winner is determined by points at the end of the season (or goal difference if points are tied). Most important domestic title in England.

Europa League: Important for a lot of teams to achieve a place to play in this league. The top 5 teams from England's Premier League play in continental leagues, with the fifth place team qualifying for Europa League. Winner of Europa League plays the winner of the Champions League. When you reach the knockout stages of the Europa League, teams that were eliminated in the group stages from Champions League enter the Europa League.

Champions League: Considered the most coveted trophy in Europe on the club level. The top few teams from multiple countries can qualify for this league. In England, it is the top four. I believe the default teams that are qualified for the first season in career mode are Arsenal, Manchester City and United, and finally Chelsea. Reaching the knockout stages grants the team with considerable financial boosts (usually in the range of 10 million euros iirc). I think all the 5 star rated European league teams will require you to qualify for Champions League each season.

                              Season Layout:

The season for the EPL is quite hectic. Each team will play a minimum of 38 games (20 teams, play each team twice, home and away). Of course, the longer you stay in competition for each trophy above will increase your game amount. I think the most games I've played in a week for an EPL team was 5. Between rescheduled EPL games, FA and COC trophies, as well as Champions/Europa League, your schedule can get quite full. Important to keep squad depth.

-The season technically starts July 1st. This period is the summer transfer window. Generally, most teams will make moves for the best players in the world, so it is a great time to improve your team to meet your goals. During this period, you will also play 3 friendly matches. These are randomly scheduled against teams from different leagues. You may also play for the UEFA Supercup, or the game between the Champions and Europa League winners. League games start in August as well.

-August 31st ends the summer window. You should have made a few moves (either buying or selling) to improve your team and clean out deadwood players. This next part of the season (September- December) will be important. It is always good to get off on the right foot, so win as many games as possible. You will play the early stages of all the trophy tournaments here as well. It is also a good time to resign any players over the age of 23 with less than one year on their contract if you would like to keep them (more on this later). Start keeping tabs on players that interest you in helping to improve your team and also players on your team that impress or disappoint you.

-January 1st is the next "section" of the season. This is the January transfer window (duh). It last all of January, with the 31st being the final day. You make moves here for any player you wish, provided they are not retiring or joining another team. This is important because it is the last chance to make any changes to your squad to help push for a title or qualifying spot. A large part of January revolves around Bosman contracts. They are agreements with players over the age of 23 and with less than one year remaining on their contract (at this point, it should be 6 months). They can allow you to bypass negotiating with the player's club and directly with the player. Because of this, you will not need to pay the transfer fee for the player to get him on your team. However, he will not be able to join your team until July following that season. The most famous example IRL is Robert Lewandowski. He left BVB Dortmund on a Bosman to join Bayern Munich. Bayern do not have to pay anything to BVB, although Lewa remains a Dortmund player until July 1st, 2014. Take advantage of this to get players that are quite pricey for free. Take note of players who are letting their contracts expire and get them for free before another team does. One side note: if a player does have 6 months remaining and no team signs them for free, they will be resigned by their current club for a longer contract at the end of the season instead of entering free agency (have yet to see a player enter FA).

-February-June is the second half of the season. The later stages of trophy tournaments happen here. It is important to maintain winning to ensure you reach your goals. Hopefully your newly signed players (if any) will help your team! In late May, you will play the in the finals for the trophies, provided you have made it that far. In June, there are usually no games scheduled for EPL teams. You may play international tournaments (if it is the appropriate year) if you are a manager for an international team.

The cycle continues until you get bored haha

if you have any questions, just ask. I think I covered everything decently.

                              ---------------------------------------

Forgot to mention above: Bosman contracts are great for teams that have low budgets! You can easily sign a stellar player (if you convince him with a lucrative contract) for free! Easy way to flip a profit as well.

I think the easiest league to understand is the Eredivisie (Dutch League). No promotion/relegation so you don't have to worry about that and you can get Champion's/Europa. Plus the fewer teams result in a more intimate league. They only have the league as well (no domestic trophy i think).

                              -------------------------------------------------

Italian, French, Spanish, and German leagues are all actually the same. They all have two playable leagues in the game. The top league from each country (Serie A, Ligue 1, Liga BBVA, Bundesliga, following the order above) each has some of the best teams in the world. They all follow the same format as the EPL, except they only have 2 trophies you can collect domestically per season (unless Italy has the Supercoppa, idk). There is a domestic cup between both country's respective leagues, as well as the trophy for winning the highest league.

I know for sure that the Bundesliga has the top four places in the league as Champions League qualifiers. The 5th and 6th places are Europa League. I believe it is the same in Liga BBVA. Not sure about Italy or France (I think its top 3 Champions league and fourth place is Europa).

In terms of relegation, the bottom 3 teams usually are automatically relegated, with the fourth to last team entering into a playoff with the lower league teams to determine the last spot (I know this is how it is in Germany, not sure about other leagues, but very similar I'm guessing). Likewise, the top 3 teams are automatically promoted, and the fourth place team entering the playoff. (Sometimes the 4-7 or so spots all are in a playoff so finishing fourth doesn't mean you have a spectacular chance).

The main difference between the leagues is the teams, obviously. Spain has Real Madrid, Barca, Atletico. Germany has Bayern, BVB, Schalke, Bayer 04. Italy has the Milans, Juve, Roma, Lazio, Napoli. France really only has PSG and AS Monaco. Depending on the team you choose to be will greatly impact your competition. If you choose a top team, you already have one less team to compete against. Choosing PSG in France eliminates pretty much every decent team, almost guaranteeing a Champions League spot. However, say you choose Hertha Berlin from Germany. You compete against Bayern, BVB, Schalke, Bayer 04, Wolfsburg, Stuttgart, etc. To some people, that is what career mode is about though. Choosing a small team and dethroning the big boys. All personal preference.

If you are really wanting to get into leagues outside the EPL while still adjusting to how career mode works, I would suggest Real Madrid or Juventus. They are top teams in their respective leagues and have a decent budget, along with an already star studded team. That way, money won't be an issue and neither will squad selection, giving you ample time to explore how career mode works more in depth while ensuring you still finish in a good spot.

                              ------------------------------------------------------

                              Transfers / Loaning of Players

Totally missed explaining this in depth. Here's a pretty solid way to help your team acquire the best players to make you better.

Depending on how you want to play will greatly influence your transfers. Do you want a realistic career mode? If so, I'd suggest researching the team you choose and their real life transfer targets. Find out what kind of players they sign and stick to it. Obviously, teams like Hull City won't be able to afford Ronaldo, so stick to smaller players. Do you want to play all out fantasy? Spend spend spend and get the best players available, regardless of if you need them or not. Just assemble the FIFA Dream Team!

If you chose the former, here is a little guide:

When it comes time for the transfer window, look at your team. Take notes of how many players you have in each position and if they are the type of caliber you need to compete. If you have too many players that are CM's, sell some off before you buy new ones. You don't want to have unnecessary wages you have to pay. I generally tend to sell players if they are over 30 (unless they are a superstar or team legend) or don't get playing time. However, it is important to keep young players that have good potential, even if they never play a game for you in the season. They can be very useful for longer career modes.

Once you have your positional needs sorted out, start looking for players. The GTN helps out a lot if used properly (won't go over it here, too long and there's another thread here on it). Keep in mind that you may not be able to fill all the spots you need in the current window. It almost always comes down to quality vs. quantity. You can either sign all your positional needs, however they won't necessarily be A+ Grade players (unless you have a huge budget). Or you can sign 1-2 top players and still suffer somewhere else. It all depends on how well you think your team will do. Will signing Luis Suarez as Inter Milan give you enough firepower to neglect the crumbling defense and aging players? Its all a judgement, but that's what makes career mode fun imo. Take those risks. Some pay off, some don't. Not all players fit with your team, even if they are amazing IRL.

As far as I know, I've never had a player want out of my team because I signed a player that has the same position, even though I will play both. I know they occasionally send you an email saying they are worried they are being replaced, but nothing more really. There is no limit to how many seasons a player can go out for loan. You could still own a player for his whole career, but never have him play a game for you if he is on loan all the time. You can recall a player from loan if you need him for an emergency, but beware: there is a recall fee.

Hopefully this helps! I'm glad I can pass on knowledge of the game/sport and help newer players get into the game.

In the name of Pele how do you flick the ball ahead the way that the CPU does?!?!? They tap it out several yards ahead of them with perfect accuracy and I can't seem to find a way to get it even half of that distance when I do it, much less straight ahead of me.
