What a disappointment. This game is just Fifa 17 with a patch. On the surface it plays the same. There have been some specific tweaks to physics but nothing drastic. Passing is crisper.

I hear this complaint all the time and like you said "on the surface". What drastic changes were you expecting between last year and this year. Without even delving deeper into the gameplay mechanics?

As someone who didn't play a whole lot of 17, this feels drastically different to me.

As someone who played a lot of FIFA 17, a lot. It's definitely different. The player feel, dribbling control and crossing/tackling are just not the same. But to each their own.

I was expecting changes that do not amount to a gameplay patch. The players still feel sluggish and not much more responsive. I also was not expecting the lighting to get visibly worse. I know pes is a whole lot more fluid but Fifa can atleast take a significant step in the right direction. I spend a lot of time playing Fifa because of pro clubs and given the resources at their disposal as opposed to koonami you expect more. 17 was a much more drastic leap over 16.

The players don't feel sluggish. They feel like they actually have weight. You can't start and stop on a dime.

And the responsiveness is a billion times better. Still not PES level good, but so so so so so much better than 17.

Feels very different from 17 to me. There is a greater range of speed within regular passing, and as others have said there is a difference in weight between players. The biggest for me is the difference in speed. If you're controlling a slower, bigger CB you can no longer easily gamble and run right at the man on the ball like Kante to snuff out the attack. You have to take a more conservative line in containing the attacker on the ball and ideally wait for help to arrive in those 1 on 1 situations.

Also very impressed by the AI, and its variety on legendary.

No idea what that one guy is talking about. Played a ton of 17, and this game you can definitely feel a difference in game play, and it's a very good difference. Game doesn't feel as hectic, passing seems more realistic, the AI moved the ball around in ways I didn't see much of last year, and the graphics, are really really well done.

It was an even more drastic change when I played the demo straight after playing PES 18 today. I love PES, but FIfa feels on point. Kinda wish it was fifa that came out today rather than PES.

Some more takeaways after playing a few more matches:

Through balls hang, especially aerials ones, they need to fix this.
Passing is crisp but a bit arcady, it is not very realistic.
Long shoots seem over powered and easy to score with even on highest difficulty.

Off the ball defending is weak, it is very hard to keep up with the arcady passing and power powerful skill moves. Skill moves are more effective.

Most of these things could be fixed/implemented improved with a patch, which is essentially what fifa 18 is.

-There is a white directional cursor underneath each player when you have the ball which tells you what direction he is going in. It absolutely sucks because you can easily get confused not knowing if the cursor is the ball. This cursor actually helps on goal kicks because you can direct the kick better but I really hope there's an option to turn this off.

HDR looks really, really good. I wasn't planning on buying this year but with HDR and improved gameplay might be enough for me to pull the trigger. I just hope at least some effort was put into the career mode.

As someone who played a lot of FIFA 17 along with doing constant slider sets I have to say

Pro evolution soccer is a million times more realistic

This plays great. In Fifa 17 I was frustrated at how often I would have a great build up for a shot at a goal only for the defense to poke the ball away at a critical moment. I was forced to constantly have to fend of defenders to put the ball in the back of the net. Now it feels much more open, you will score plenty of goals in this game. The defense doesn't magically catch up to you when you find yourself behind the defense now. The crosses are much improved. Playing defense feels a bit more difficult now and that's good because I thought it was too easy in Fifa 17. I'm really liking it so far.

Liking everything about this so far. I am far from a trained eye, but this may be the best positioning on release date (fingers crossed EA doesn't do anything from now, until then) in FIFA History. Field degradation is awesome looking from GK Cam in the 2nd half. Love the weight of players. Air balls I do feel are a little floaty but minor. Very impressed with the humanized AI on legendary as well. Played against Man City who finished with 76% pass 3 fouls against and even a offsides!

Saving grace might be that there is not 2 Bundesliga Teams in the demo, thus not triggering the presentation package. I hope it makes it in, as the EPL and La Liga Packages are stunningly life like!
