Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread

This was too funny not to pass along. After a few years at Real Valladolid, I took the job at Real Madrid and experienced the debt glitch of all debt glitches. $1 Billion in debt. Couldn't stop laughing.

Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread

I'm now in year 4. My 3rd year with Exeter, our goal again was to avoid the releg zone and 3rd round of F.A. cup. Well we did 6th in table and 4th rd of cup.

So I am now a 2* manager and got Exeter up to a 1 1/2 * team. I decided to stay cuz I like what I'm building here. Now I'm able to actually get some players and we've beefed up out roster considerably. We've handled out money very well so I splurged.

Now the goal is mid table finish and again 3rd round of FA cup. We're going for top 3 though. I think we can do it this year and take the step up to League 1.

I'm in season 2 with Bradford City. Last season we won the league, the Johnstones cup, were runner up in the English cup and were eliminated by Everton in the quarter finals of the FA cup 4-1.

Notable victories over Aston Villa and Chelsea.

This season we lead the league, are still in the Johnstones cup. We were eliminated by Everton (Again!!) on penalties from the English cup. And we are about to face Manchester United in the FA Cup.

Notable victories over Aston Villa and Blackburn.

I beat liverpool in the English League Cup Final with my accrington squad. They scored a quick goal, about 3 minutes later i answered. then right before half like 44th min they scored again. around the 65th minute, i get a PK and convert their guy tripped in the box with no one around me. and in the 90th minute i scored again avoiding extra time!!! Biggest win i have had it was a hell of a game and i was sweating at the end i was so intense playing

              Year 2 Update

              Team: Sheffield United
              League: Premier League
              Record: 2nd (28-4-6, +71 GD, 88 points)
Silverware: FA Community Shield, Carling Cup, FA Cup
Cups: Defeated Manchester City in the FA Community Shield, defeated Arsenal in the Carling and FA Cup, lost to Genoa in the 2nd round of the Europa League.
Summer Transfers: Sold GK Mark Bunn and LB Phil Roe. Bought Joe Lewis (GK, Peterborough), Nathaniel Clyne (RB, Crystal Palace), Ciaran Clark (CB, Aston Villa), Leroy Fer (CM, Feyenoord), Anthony Edgar (LM, Free), and Cameron Jerome (ST, Birmingham City).
Winter Transfers: Sold RB Derek Geary.
              Goal Scorers: Jerome (37), Evans (24), Obadeyi (19), Fer (17), Henderson (10), Reid (6), Stanislas/Harper (5), Quinn (3), Little/Clark (2), Edgar/Addison (1)
              Goalkeeping: Lewis (12 clean sheets)

              Manager Thoughts:
              • Last year, the main thing we wanted to improve on was consistency. We had to do some soul searching after losing to Fulham 5-3 in the middle of October. What resulted was us going 21-4-1 from that point on (as opposed to 7-0-5 after Fulham) with us going 7 months before we lost a game in the league.
              • The run we made throughout the season was really something great. Chelsea led the league from beginning to end. We always seemed to be a step behind. But even with that said, we had a chance on the last day of the season to win the title, needing a win against Manchester United to pull it off. We lost 1-0.
              • By signing 6 players over the summer, we wanted to address our depth concerns. I think we did that for the most part, as the Carling Cup and FA Cup wouldn't have been won if we hadn't.
              • I was disappointed in how we fared in the Europa League. We struggled in our group and needed an 8-0 in our last group game to claim 2nd on goal differential. We faced Genoa in the 2nd round and were totally outclassed. We lost 6-3 on aggregate. Looking forward to the Champions League, we have Sporting, SV Rein, and another qualifier so we should make it through.
              • As for what we will try to do in the transfer market, we want to add a few more defenders. CB and LB are positions we need to upgrade, as well adding some strength to the midfield and some flair on the wings.

Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread

after a two-month hiatus from FIFA 10 I decided to fire it back up and begin my manager mode. Actually it's more of a season mode, just plan on doing one year with Inter. I plan on playing all the games myself, partly so I can get the achievement, and am currently on pro with half semi-assisted and half assisted settings. I'm sure I'll be dropping down to semi on everything once I get some more games under my belt.

Anyway I did the preseason yesterday and not much happened. Won most of them, lost a tough one to Sampdoria. Eto'o had five goals in a win over Sochaux. I bought Clint Dempsey to fulfill the American homer in me and fill the bench. My main thing throughout the season is that I'm going to try my best to enjoy the game for it is instead of what it's not. Scudetto here I come!

It's funny how I got through slumps in this game. Some games I feel like I can score at will. Then I'll have a few in a row where I don't score at all and my guys seem slow.

lost a lame one to Lazio 3-1 in the Coppa Italia. I was up 1-0 and once it hit the 65th minute Lazio just went into the soccer equivalent of Robo QB mode, connecting on all their passes, getting some ridiculous shots on goal and having every loose ball find their feet instead of those of my players. Ugh.

Rebounded to win the Serie A opener 3-1 over Roma. Eto'o with two first-half goals and Milito earning his first official one with the Nerazzuri.

                          Year 3 Update

                          Team: AS Roma
                          League: Serie A
                          Record: 1st (27-5-6, +54 GD, 86 points)
Silverware: Serie A Champs, Coppa Itlalia, Supercoppa
Cups: Defeated Cagliari in the Coppa Italia, defeated Juventus in the Supercoppa, got destroyed by Barcelona in the semifinals of the Champions League (10-1 on agg).
                          Summer Transfers:
In - Kwando Asamoah, CDM/CM/LM (Udinese), Lorenzo Ariaudo, CB (Juventus)
Out - Medy Butcher, scouted ST (Juventus), Cicinho, RB (Bologna)
                          Winter Transfers:
In - Fernando Forestieri, ST/CF (Malaga)
Out - Nicolas Burdisso, CB (Atalanta made an offer I couldn't refuse out of the blue)
Goal Scorers: Vucinic (24), Okaka (18), Baptista (12), Totti (8), Menez (6), De Rossi (6), plus more I can't remember now

                          Manager Thoughts:
                          • Our goal this year was to win as many trophies as possible. I felt like 3 were very realistic (Serie A, Coppa, Supercoppa) and we succeeded in that endeavor. We pretty much led Serie A from wire to wire but needed some close finishes to advance in the Coppa including an ET goal on the road by Vucinic vs Parma early on. The Supercoppa match was one of the better matches all year. Buffon was a brick wall for the first 80+ minutes until we finally cracked through and won 2-1.

                          • Offensively we continued our torrid pace scoring over 100 goals in league play. Defensively we improved by allowing 4 less goals but I feel as if we could have done much better. We rotated keepers all year as neither Doni or Diego Alves stood out with their play. I'd like to upgrade at keeper but rarely do the elite one's hit the transfer market.

                          • With the majority of the roster pushing 30 or above we wanted to get younger but not sacrifice any quality. Asamoah didn't make much of an impact from a goal scoring perspective but he proved to be very versatile playing CM, CDM, LM, and RM at times. Forestieri is a tad on the small side for the Serie A but he brings some pace up top and could be a long-term replacement for Totti when he hangs it up. Speaking of Totti, his goal total dipped but it was mainly due to him not making as many league appearances. I primarily went with the duo of Vucinic/Okaka in league play and Totti/Menez in Cup/Euro action. It's too bad it doesn't keep track of goals in all matches because Menez was a monster up top. So much so that I often played Totti at CF/CAM with Menez & Baptista/Forestieri up top.

                          • We coasted through the Champions League group stages and vs Real Salzburg and our Italian rivals Inter, who btw, we played 6 times last year. We were pretty confident going into the 1st leg with Barca until I saw that every one of their players had an upwards green arrow. They DISMANTLED us completely. We were outclassed in every facet. Puyol shut down Menez and Zlatan dominated by backline of Mexes/Thiago Silva.

                          • After the hurting that Barca put on us I realized that we need to build some more quality depth, particularly at LB, LW, and CB. We could have used Burdisso down the stretch. Ariaudo wasn't ready for some bigger matchups and doesn't have the tactical awareness yet. We desperately need a LB with some size/pace combo. Tonetto has pace but no size and Riise is the complete opposite. We have our eye on a couple of targets in the Summer Transfer Window.

                          Current depth chart

                          ST - Totti/Okaka - Menez/Vucinic
                          CF/CAM - Menez/Baptista/De Rossi/Pizzaro/Perrotta/Asamoah
                          LM - Cerci/Asamoah/Pizzaro
                          RM - Quaresma/Taddei/Pizzaro
                          CDM - De Rossi/Brighi/Asamoah/Faty
                          LB - Riise/Tonetto
                          RB - Motta/Van der Wiel
                          CB - Thiago Silva/Juan - Mexes/Ariaudo
                          GK - Diego Alves/Doni

That's why I turn off auto-save before the last game of the season. If a job opens up that I want, I can take it and not worry about if the glitch is there.

I've been building my team for so long now I don't want to leave them.

I actually have gotten my 1* Exeter club to 2 1/2* now. We're in the semi's of the Johnstone's Paint Cup, and solidly 2nd in the table. Looks like League 1 next year!
