    Season 4

    The Mariners

    May 2020

    West Brom 0 - 2 Grimsby Town
    GRI - Amang 35', 71'
    MOTM: Amang

We've moved one step closer to the title with another solid win away from home. Amang was the man of the hour for this game and he got it started with Banton playing him up the middle and he easily beat the keeper on the right side of the goal. He then smashed another shot off the post before ultimately getting his brace by getting around the right side of the defense and finishing low past the keeper.

    Grimsby Town 3 - 0 Middlesbrough
    GRI - Vieira 13', Morris 59', Sacko 80'
    MOTM: Sacko

This was huge, now was only need a single point from one of our last 2 games to secure the title. Those two games though are against Arsenal who is trying to make up ground, and Chelsea who is never an easy team to get any points off of. On this night though it was Vieira getting us started early with a fantastic shot from distance into the top left corner. The next didn't come until the second half, but it was Sacko crossing it in for Morris to get his head on it and power it inside the near post. The last goal was a result of a beautiful ball over the top from Hourihane and Sacko was able to control it and go in on goal for the quick finish to the far post.

    Arsenal FC 1 - 1 Grimsby Town
    ARS - Musa 60'
    GRI - Amang 21'
    MOTM: Bellerin

That does it! The fairy tale ending is complete and I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't have been there for the whole thing. We are the Premier League champions! We got on the board first with a great bit of movement that saw the ball go from Hourihane to Vieira and then to Amang as he went through on goal and he boldly finished right between the keeper's legs for the lead. Arsenal came roaring back trying to grab an equalizer and after a series of saves by Thomas, they finally found one after a giveaway from our defender and Sanchez played it straight to Musa and he finished it quickly on the near post. After that it was just a frantic attempt for us to keep our point and in the end we were able to get it done.

    Grimsby Town 2 - 2 Chelsea FC
    GRI - Amang 26', Hourihane 45' (PEN)
    CHE - Bale 18', Gacinovic 45'
    MOTM: Gacinovic

This game didn't matter, but it was our chance to celebrate in front of our supporters. Chelsea struck first with Bale getting space in the box to finish the ball first time past the keeper on the left side of the goal. It didn't take long for us to equalize though with Amang getting on to the end of Sacko's ball and tapping it in from in front of goal. We then took the lead with Adjapong sliding recklessly through Banton in the box and it was Hourihane that converted from the spot. That lasted for not even a minute though and Gacinovic scored with a stunning scissor kick off the volley that went off the right post and in. As I mentioned though the result didn't matter and we were just simply counting down the minute until we got to lift the trophy.

    Manager Comments

Despite our stunning success this season, we did come up short in several areas of our season objectives. Obviously all was forgiven by the board as they were ecstatic with the results. Our youth objective was left unachieved, even though Callum Kelly played more than 50% of the games this season after being promoted to the senior squad last year, he actually joined our academy 2 seasons ago and didn't qualify for the objective. Our brand exposure objective was achieved and we managed to earn the £5,100,000 needed in the last month of the season. We failed miserably when it came to the financial objective, as we always seem to do, and our player salaries increased by 48% on the season, but it was clearly worth it to bring in players with the quality of Sacko, Hourihane, and Vieira. Domestically we obviously shattered the league goals set out for us, but we did come up short in the FA Cup after we crashed out early before even getting to the final 32. And last but not least our continental success was achieved when we reached the group stage, even if we didn't make it as far this year as we did the previous.

Next season poses a whole new set of challenges for us. Rather than being looked at as relegation fodder, we will be the defending champs and that will put a target on our back. On top of that, while we've dabbled in European play the past 2 seasons, we will now be in the Champions League against the biggest clubs in the world. We will have to adjust to the difficulty while trying to maintain our play in the Premier League as well. We have risen Grimsby to unfathomable heights, and I have no plans on stopping now.

    Board Objectives

    Youth
-Within 2 seasons, have at least 1 player from the Youth Academy signed in the first team play at least 50% of the games in the next season. (Remaining seasons: 2)

    Brand Exposure
-Gain £5,100,000 earnings from shirt sales within a season

    Financial
-Keep player salary growth under 20%

    Domestic Success
    -Premier League: Avoid Relegation.
-The Emirates FA Cup: Reach the Round of 32 Stage.
-Within 2 seasons in Premier League: Finish Mid Table (Remaining seasons :2)

    Continental Success
-Euro League: Reach the Group Stage.

Texasbum - Winning the league always makes for a successful season IMO but losing that early in the FA cup had to be frustrating. Did you play a weakened squad? If so, will your game plan change in the cup next season?

It was actually a full strength lineup, with the exception of Thomas Amang who was injured. Turns out he was a big factor for me (considering he scored 16 goals and had 7 assists in 29 games) and we missed him pretty badly when he was out.

On the other hand, dropping out of the EFL Cup, the FA Cup, and the Europa League all fairly early let me field a full strength XI pretty much the rest of the way and I feel like that really made the difference in my push for the title.

          Arsenal's £100M Man?

Will Arsenal Set the New Transfer Record & Sign Griezmann?

LONDON – Word out of The Emirates today is that Atlético Madrid are willing to accept a £100M bid from Arsenal to secure the services of French International, Antoine Griezmann. Arsenal have made it known they are looking for a world class attacking player, and have been heavily linked to Griezmann, and Juventus’ Paulo Dybala.

The £100M fee would break the previous record set in 2016 when Manchester United purchased Paul Pogba from Juventus, for £89M. It remains to be seen if the Gunners will pay the sizeable fee. There have been other rumors flying that Santi Cazorla could be included in the deal, obviously knocking the asking price down by a considerable margin. Cazorla, who turned 32 in December—is having a fine run of form for Arsenal this year, but his playing time is limited behind the likes of Mesut Özil. It’s been reported that Alex Iwobi has been training some in the No. 10 role, as Arsenal could be grooming him to be the future in that spot behind Özil (28).

If Griezmann is brought in to North London, Arsenal would fancy multiple looks up front—with the Frenchman able to play up top, or on either wing. An attacking trio of Sánchez, Giroud, and Griezmann would be quite formidable—and surely wreak havoc on Premier League defenses.

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

Thanks everyone! I thought Arsenal was going to catch me down the stretch so getting the win against them to lock it up in the 2nd to last game was awesome.

One thing I was disappointed in was that I didn't feel a struggle during any of the seasons I played despite my squad never being up to par ratings wise with the league I was in. Although I didn't win League 2 or the Championship, I was always in comfortable spots for promotion. I have been playing on legendary and even added Cutzy's sliders for most of this season to increase the difficulty but still it didn't hinder me much (although I didn't run away with the league by any means). Cutzy has a newer set of sliders that is supposed to make it even more difficult so I am going to try rolling those out for this season to see how it helps.

Also, I am considering running a side CM starting back at the bottom with the new difficulty and also put some house rules (Similar to Poulka's career) on myself to try to make it as hard as possible to build a squad and work my way up. Grimsby will continue either way, especially since I am really starting to love the squad I have built.

Match day 1 - Saturday Edition

It's the first Saturday night primetime match of the season and it's a derby! Arsenal travel across town to face West Ham at the new London Stadium. West Ham will be without Demetri Payet as they look to sell the struggled star. Arsenal are fully healthy and will be starting their best XI.

Don't forget to watch out Match Day Live halftime show as we bring you highlights from around the league including 2 own goals (3 total this week) a red card and a last minute nail biter between Stoke City and Newcastle United.

I forget--I think they'll accept a £75M offer. Griezmann literally has EVERYTHING I am looking for. If I remember correctly, Dybala is a M/M workrate, and I really want a H/M in that spot (which Frenchy has).

Bale was my 'big purchase' in last year's FIFA so I think it'll be the Griez this year!

@Josh4 yeah that was probably the most frustrating and fun game I ever had in any FIFA. The game was as dramatic as it can get. We just wanted to get back to FA Cup at Wembley.

@Keano16, what about a young CB to help Swansea's lack of defense? Cameron Carter-Vickers looks promising.

Or if you need midfield, Joshua Kimmich was fun to use as he can play CM, CDM, LB/RB or even CB if you are desperate. I believe he's only 21.

@Jhedges2, I remember when you bought Bale last season. It was heartbreaking seeing him for Arsenal! I think Griezmann with Giroud up top would be a great combination.

Yea! He scored in his debut against Bournemouth, played 2 more games, and then broke his leg .
