    League Match 17
FC Barcelona - SD Eibar (2-0)
    Turan 22' (Tello)
    Montoya 77' (Cruz Torres)

Tello 38' (Bruised shoulder, out for 9 days)

Our B-squad stepped up to give the regulars a breather a couple of days before a Copa Del Rey match. I'm hopeful that Turan's goal will put him on the radar of some teams as he has decided that he no longer wants to be with the club.

Copa Del Rey - Round of 16, 1st Leg
Real Sociedad - FC Barcelona (1-2)
    Müller 31' (Messi)
    Jonathas 38'
    Müller 88' (Neymar)
    Busquets 55'
Mayke 5' (Bruised elbow, out for 5 days)

Messi and Neymar both hooked up Thomas Müller whose brace led us to a key road win in this first leg. Real Sociedad was once again competitive against us but hopefully this win and the away goals will give us the edge that we need heading into the second leg.

    League Match 18
Celta Vigo - FC Barcelona (1-3)
    Müller 7'
    Roberto 42' (Messi)
    Messi 83' (pen)

    Babacar 87'
    Alba 50'
Montoya 12' (Bruised shoulder, out for 5 days)

Celta put up a good fight but our individual talent shone bright on this night to methodically give us a strong lead, although we failed to keep a clean sheet at the end.

Copa Del Rey - Round of 16, 2nd Leg
FC Barcelona - Real Sociedad (1-0, 3-1 agg)
    Roberto 70' (Mayke)
    Neymar 38'
Neymar 19' (Sprained knee, out for 3 weeks)
Vidal 68' (Bruised shoulder, out for 5 days)

Our defense shut down Real Sociedad's as we completed our move into the quarter finals of the cup. We had been dodging injuries pretty good so far this month but now Neymar got bit with a bit of a hit and we'll miss him for three weeks.

    League Match 19
FC Barcelona - Bilbao Athletic (2-1)
    Busquets 5' (Müller)
    Messi 45'

    Santamaría 57'
    Müller 71'
Sandro 17' (Broken toe, out for 3 months)

Asier Villalibre chipped a penalty kick over the crossbar in the 15th minute, wasting Bilbao Athletic's only chance to go ahead in the scoreboard. On the other hand Lionel Messi scored a gorgeous free kick that proved to be the difference.

    • Emre Karaer (CB, 73 OVR loaned to UD Las Palmas on short-term.

Copa Del Rey - Quarter Final, 1st Leg
Athletic Bilbao - FC Barcelona (0-4)
    Vidal 29' (Messi)
    Busquets 34' (Müller)
    Busquets 62' (Roberto)
    Müller 83' (Tello)

Bernd Leno played out of his mind in this one, making save after save to earn MOM honors while also contributing offensively. His long throw off a save in the 28th minute reached Messi immediately who attacked Athletic's defense and found Aleix Vidal for the opening score. This road win all but seals our ticket to the semis.

    • Cristian Artabe Meca (RB, 65 OVR) sold to Córdoba CF for $675K.
    • Aitor (RW, 71 OVR) agreed to join UD Almería next season on pre-contract.

    League Match 20
FC Barcelona - Athletic Bilbao (0-0)
Alonso 56' (Bruised elbow, out for 8 days)

Athletic recovered form to keep us from winning either match against them in league play this season (we lost against them last month). However, our defense was again able to keep their attack at bay to provide a sounding psychological hit prior to the second leg of our match-up in the Spanish Cup.

    Transfer News
    • Dani Romera (ST, 67 OVR) sold to Albacete for $975K.
    • Daniel Amartey (CM, 81 OVR) acquired from FC København for $24 million.

Copa Del Rey - Quarter Final, 2nd Leg
FC Barcelona - Athletic Bilbao (0-1, 4-1 agg)
    Bellarabi 4'
    Douglas 25'

I didn't even bother playing my starters in this one and the B-squad was able to control the damage after Athletic's early goal to book our ticket into the semi finals. Amartey and Karlsson made their club debuts and both played well.

    League Match 21
Sporting Gijón - FC Barcelona (0-4)
    Müller 51'
    Messi 65' (Vidal)
    Müller 78' (Neymar)
    Messi 90+2'

We wrapped up an excellent beginning to 2017 with a throbbing of Sporting Gijón, who are actually having a decent season in La Liga. They put up a good fight in the first half but we overpowered them in the second half as Messi and Müller continue to break away from the pack in the race for the Pichichi.

Review: An excellent beginning of the new year has us primed to accomplish some special things this season. We more than doubled our points lead at the top of the table and now that Betis isn't keeping up with us you have to wonder if anyone else is going to be able to cut the gap. Real Madrid would be the obvious choice but they haven't had a great first half of the season by their standards and it's going to take a great second half of the season by them (or a significant drop in our form) to close the gap. If our rivals aren't able to make us sweat in La Liga they will definitely give us a challenge in the Copa Del Rey semi finals as Levante and Sporting Gijón were able to avoid us in the draw. A potential El Clásico in the final would had been amazing but the fans may be happier with this outcome since it'll result in two games.

As far as the transfers go they may not have much flash but I wasn't going for a big homerun move this winter. Turan had to go and I felt I negotiated a pretty good fee for him from Liverpool. His absence did force me to look for depth in the midfield and I was very pleased to bring in Amartey who can also play at CDM if needed. I also succeeded in continuing to trim the roster with the sales of players like Artabe Meca and Romera and I didn't even mind Aitor agreeing to a pre-contract since I consciously didn't make any effort to extend his contract. Kareer had expressed the desire to get some more PT so his loan deal made sense although unfortunately for him he suffered an ACL injury in his first game with Las Palmas and will be out of action for the rest of the season. He should be ready to go for pre-season. Lastly I was very excited about bringing in Karlsson, an exciting Swedish prospect from Lyon's academy whom I'd come to know pretty well after his loan spell with Twente last season. It's no secret I've been very disappointed with Munir this season and I desperately wanted to bring in another option as our backup striker. As luck would have it though, Karlsson's season is already over as he also suffered an ACL injury. I don't know whether it's a good thing that no offers for Munir come during this transfer window but he'll be all we have behind Müller the rest of the season.

As far as our academy is concerned, we continue to grow our youth squad.

    La Masia
    (listed by ranking)

CM - Fran Martinez (62 OVR, 88-94 POT): This 17-year old from Venezuela is officially the top prospect in La Masia. Standing at 5'7", 150lbs, Fran is described as technically gifted. He displays natural movement (82 agility, 78 balance) to go with very good ball control (77) and curve (77) on the ball.

CM - Esteban Fuentes (59 OVR, 81-94)*: 16-year old from Venezuela described as technically gifted. Fuentes joins Martinez as promising midfielders for both the club and their country. He is very shifty, showcasing excellent ball control (78), dribbling (75) and agility (73).

CAM - Javier Marquez (59 OVR, 81-94): Now a 17-year old from Spain described as a playmaker. Marquez is a smaller prospect (5'5",143lbs) but his potential is big and that's what made us sign him. We're hopeful he'll be able to develop into a winger.

ST - Flavio Mansilla (59 OVR, 78-86): 16-year old from Venezuela described as technically gifted. Mansilla continues to project as an exciting prospect displaying excellent ball control (75) for his age. I'm excited for him as a player for the club and the country.

CDM - Diego Menendez (43 OVR, 77-91): Now an 18-year old from Argentina described as technically gifted. Menendez is very raw but shows high potential so we were willing to take a bit of a gamble with him. His agility (81) is impressive for someone who is so raw overall.

LM - Pablo Acosta (55 OVR, 72-94)*: 16-year old from Argentina and yet another technically gifted prospect for the club. Acosta's agility (80) is easily his best attribute and he also possess the kind of pace (71acc/70spd) at his age that makes us comfortable about how he projects at his position.

CF - Eligio Domínguez (53 OVR, 76-94): 15-year old from Venezuela described as technically gifted. Domínguez doesn't have a particular attribute that jumps off the page but his promise is undeniable.

CM - Jose Vargas (41 OVR, 74-94)*: This 15-year old from Argentina described as an attacker is the rawest prospect in the academy but his potential was too enticing to pass up on him. His pace (73acc/68spd) and agility (70) are what stand out at this time.

LM - Valerio Segura (56 OVR, 71-87)*: 17-year old from Venezuela who is technically gifted. Segura is a very agile (79) midfielder with good pace (74acc/69spd) who may be more of a fit as a winger in our system.

RB - Manuel Navarro (46 OVR, 75-83): 15-year old from Spain described by scouts as an attacker. Navarro actually possesses decent pace (72 acc/70 spd) at a very young age and is very agile (72) as well. However, he's so raw as a defender he can't even be called a defender at this time. He projects as a depth player.

CB - Sergio Torres (53 OVR, 75-83): 15-year old from Spain described as physically strong. Torres oozes some impressive traits for his young age such as his jumping (73), aggression (72), strength (65), and pace (71 acc/68 spd) but he's raw as a defender and will need to work hard on that aspect of his game.

ST - Darío Verdejo (52 OVR, 75-81): 17-year old from Spain standing at 5'11" and 176lbs. Verdejo is described as physically strong and indeed his strength (78) is his top attribute although he isn't just a log as he also has good aggression (75), speed (74), and jumping (74). He's very raw technically though so he'll need to work hard in that aspect of his game to develop as a scorer.

CAM - Daniel Lugano (58 OVR, 74-80): Also a 17-year old Venezuelan described as technically gifted who is also very agile (79). Since I'm able to make better evaluations of Venezuelan prospects I know Lugano, who is 5'11" and 154lbs, can also play as either a CF or CM so we're excited about his versatility on the pitch.
    * Recent addition

Javier Gonzalez (CB, 59 OVR) was promoted to the senior roster. He's a prospect showing great potential.

    February schedule
    2/2: vs UD Las Palmas
    2/5: at Real Betis
2/8: at Real Madrid (Copa Del Rey)
    2/13: vs Real Zaragoza
2/17: at 1899 Hoffenheim (Euro League)
    2/20: at RCD Espanyol
2/24: vs 1899 Hoffenheim (Euro League)
    2/26: vs Celta Vigo

It's time to buckle up and start playing some big games as we get down the tough stretch of the season. A Betis squad in poor form will be our toughest league test in February although there's a lot of volume with five games. Add to that an El Clásico in the Spanish Cup and a couple of Round of 32 games in the UEL and you could see how we'll need to bring our A game more often than not. We need to prove our success so far this season isn't a fluke as I try to lead this club to regain its status as the best in Spain and one of the best in Europe.

    Thank you for reading!

      January 2023

      Tottenham 2 - 3 Grimsby Town
      TOT - Alli 10', Nkoudou 21'
      GRI - Wolf 33', Morris 60', Sacko 82'
      MOTM: Sacko

It couldn't have been a worse start, or a better ending to a game than this. We fell behind early on with Alli getting on the end of an inch perfect cross to the back post and he slid in to direct it past the keeper. They doubled the lead after some poor defending left Nkoudou open on the left side of the goal and once he got the ball he turned towards goal and placed it to the far post. We weren't ready to give up though and Sacko won the ball in the attacking third and played it ahead to Wolf and he finished it with a well placed shot to the right side of the goal. In the second half Morris attempted to play Harris through but the ball was deflected and he was able to win it back from the defender to continue through on goal and he slotted it inside the near post. Then in the closing minutes Cole got the ball at the top of the box with the defender on his back and he played it to Sacko overlapping on the right and he finished it low across the goal for the deciding goal of the night and completed our come back.

      F.A. Cup
      Grimsby Town 4 - 2 Burnley FC
      GRI - Kamada 19', 33', Dembele 64', Boscagli 87'
      BUR - Agyei 17', Gray 22'
      MOTM: Kamada

It was quite an interesting start to the game with Caulker getting sent off in just the 3rd minute for what I would call a questionable decision at best. Burnley took advantage of that quickly by pressing our defense with their advantage and winning the ball to play up ahead to Agyei for the quick strike and the lead. It only took a couple of minutes for us to answer though with Morrison playing Kamada around the right and he struck it from distance into the top left corner. But once again we lost our concentration and Gray was able to get free from his marker and direct a cross into the back of the net from right in front of goal. But it was Kamada once again finding the equalizer for us after Dembele sent a low ball in from the left and he met it on the near post and flicked it on inside the right post. We took the lead in the second half when Kamada played a brilliant through ball for Dembele as he ran past the defense and he placed his shot low across the goal to beat the keeper. In the closing minutes we kept up the pressure and Boscagli got the ball through and drew the keeper out before squaring it to Dembele for the simple tap in on the back post to wrap up the game.

      EFL Cup Semi-Final Leg 1
      Grimsby Town 3 - 1 AFC Bournemouth
      GRI - Morris 33', Wolf 55', Cole 90'
      BOU - Cook 75'
      MOTM: Morris

It was a solid win, especially with our reserves. But, we did give up an away goal so it remains to be seen if that will come back to haunt us or not. We took the lead when Quiroga played the ball through to Morris running into the box and he picked his spot and finished it into the bottom left corner. In the second half Wolf doubled our lead after receiving the ball from Morris and spinning around the outside of the defense to fire his shot back across the goal around the keeper. Bournemouth pulled one back though after we left Cook with too much space as he dribbled forward and he just let it fly inside the right post. In the final minutes we pushed our lead back to two when Wright played Cole through and he only had the keeper to beat to make it a little more comfortable for us heading into the second leg.

      Grimsby Town 4 - 1 Everton FC
      GRI - Boscagli 36' (PEN), 79', 90', Morrison 43'
      EVE - Cerny 21'
      MOTM: Boscagli

Boscagli continued his impressive debut season with his first hat-trick for the club. We did fall behind in the first half when our keeper came out to punch away an incoming ball and it fell to one of their players, but his shot was deflected off the line by a defender only to see it come back out to Cerny and this time he placed it around the defender. As we tried to push for an equalizer, Kamada got taken down from behind as he shot the ball and the referee pointed to the spot. Boscagli left no doubt with his finish into the top left corner. Morrison then gave us the lead before the break after Kamada played him through on the left and he kept it simple and just placed it around the keeper. In the second half Boscagli extended our lead after we got out on the counter with Dembele leading the charge and he played it to Boscagli to go through on goal and he finished it easily. In the final minute, Cole got ahead of the defense, but proving his unselfishness he waited to lay the ball off to Boscagli running in on the left to tap in and complete his hat-trick.

      Crystal Palace 1 - 0 Grimsby Town
      CRY - Walsh 78'
      MOTM: Kessie

It still seems impossible that we lost that. We had chance after chance, and yet nothing was able to get through. Palace offered little threat the entire match until late in the second half they got the ball to Walsh inside our box and he just powered it past our keeper on the near post for an improbable goal considering the flow of the game. After that we still should have equalized, especially when Wolf got through in the final minute only to send his shot just wide of the post.

      EFL Cup Semi-Final Leg 2
      AFC Bournemouth 1 (2) - (5) 2 Grimsby Town
      BOU - Wilson 73'
      GRI - Boscagli 17', 71'
      MOTM: Boscagli

We are through to the final for a second straight year, and this time it would be a massive disappointment not to be holding the trophy at the end of this. Boscagli continued his run of form and opened the scoring with a stunning free kick that he curled around the left side of the wall and snuck it inside the left post. He then added a second after Sidibe played him down the left and he fired his shot off the keeper and in. That pretty much wrapped it up for us and we lost our focus as a result and just 2 minutes went by before they had an answer with Wilson nodding a cross into the back of the net.

      F.A. Cup
      Grimsby Town 4 - 1 Brentford FC
      GRI - Wolf 22', Morris 57', Cole 82', 90'
      BRE - McEachran 45' (PEN)
      MOTM: Morris

It's always nice to move on in the F.A. Cup and I wouldn't be able to find much to complain about. We struck first when Vieira played the ball to Wolf on the left and he used a great turn to face up to the goal and fire it past the keeper. Then we had a mental lapse and made a poor challenge inside of our own box to concede a penalty that McEachran converted. We got the lead back though on an absolutely stunning free kick by Morris that curled over the wall and into the top left corner. We wrapped it up with two break away goals from Cole that were both laid off to him tap in after the keeper was caught out.

        Season 7

        The Mariners

        February 2023

        Grimsby Town 2 - 1 West Ham
        GRI - Zaha 18', Cole 89'
        WHU - Paterson 65' (OG)
        MOTM: Caulker

For some reason we can't keep a clean sheet anymore, but if we can keep finding ways to win games anyway then I can't complain too much. We took the lead in the first half off of a corner was sent in and Dembele flicked it on at the near post towards the middle and Zaha was there to fire it past the keeper. In the second half they equalized after a shot hit off the post and fell to them at the other post and the shot was met right away by Paterson, but it managed to still continue on and sneak inside the left post. With time running out, Cole played the ball out wide to Boscagli and he sent a beautiful cross back across to the far post where Cole had continued his run to and after his first shot was kept out, he finished the rebound to give us the win.

        Chelsea FC 1 - 4 Grimsby Town
        CHE - Icardi 79'
        GRI - Quiroga 15', 62', Wolf 66', Fenton 90'
        MOTM: Kelly

That was a decisive statement against a team that was sitting just behind us in the table. We opened the scoring in emphatic fashion with Kelly chipping a ball over the top of the defense as Quiroga beat the keeper to it and hit it first time past him rushing out and into the back of the net. Then it was Kelly setting up Quiroga once again to extend our lead as he fired it from the right side of the goal back across to the far post. We made it three after Harris played Wolf through on the right and he took his time to pick his spot and placed it around the keeper. Chelsea then pulled one back because of course we can't keep a clean sheet and it was our keeper making a poor pass that was intercepted and then pushed ahead to Icardi to fire into the goal. Kelly then completed his hat-trick of assists in the final minute as he fed the ball to Fenton running in on the right and he slotted it low to the far post.

        Manchester United 1 - 3 Grimsby Town
        MUN - Dybala 36' (PEN)
        GRI - Zaha 31', Boscagli 50', Morrison 80'
        MOTM: Boscagli

A top of the table clash, and this was as important of a win as they come. Zaha opened it up with a goal against his former club after Boscagli cross a ball into the middle as he was running in and he chested it down and then directed it around the keeper. Just minutes later though the referee gifted United a controversial penalty and Dybala sent our keeper the wrong way and slotted it into the left side. Not long after the break Kessie played Boscagli down the left and he fired it across the goal and hit it off the post and in to give us the lead. Then with United pushing hard for an equalizer, it was us that scored with Dembele playing the ball to Morrison on the left and his shot was off the keeper and in for the deciding goal.

        F.A. Cup Round of 16
        Grimsby Town 3 - 0 Aston Villa
        GRI - Wolf 50', Morris 81', Wright 90'
        MOTM: Vieira

After a scoreless first half, the second half proved to be all us. Wolf was the one to open it after Vieira played him down the left and he took one touch to set himself up and then fired it low across the goal to the far post. We doubled the lead when Griffiths was played the ball at the top of the box and he flicked it on with his first touch into Morris' path as he overlapped on the right and he placed it back across the goal past the keeper. In the final minute as they tried desperately to pull one back they sent their keeper up on a corner. After we cleared it, Cole was the first one to track it down and despite having an open goal in front of him, he squared it to Wright who also ran ahead with him and he tapped it in.

Champion's League Knockout Round Leg 1
        Atletico Madrid 1 - 0 Grimsby Town
        ATL - Werner 68'
        MOTM: Caulker

The result is not representative of the game at all. We should have won this comfortably, but their keeper was in the form of his life to keep us off the score sheet. The ended up taking the lead midway through the second half when Kessie cheaply gave the ball away and they sent it ahead right away to counter and it ended up getting played to Werner on the back post for the easy finish. The pressure is on us now to take care of business on the second leg.

        EFL Cup Final
        Watford FC 3 (7) - (8) 3 Grimsby Town
        WAT - Traore 17', Obi 73', Jakubiak 120'
        GRI - Dembele 27', 37', Boscagli 96'
        MOTM: Dembele

What an unbelievable game. The cup final lived up to it's billing and we were the ones that came out with the trophy when it was all said and done. Things started out shaky though and Watford took the lead with Traore heading home a cross on the back post. It only took 10 minutes for us to find an answer and played a ball to the middle and Dembele took a touch and then placed a fantastic shot across his body without ever turning towards goal and finishing it just inside the far post. It only took a few more minutes for him to grab a second and Zaha played the ball through and when the defender went to try to obstruct him, he went around him and had the ball through on goal for the easy finish. It looked like we were going to hang on, but then in the second half Obi scored a stunner from just inside the edge of the box with a first time strike into the top right corner to force extra time. We started off extra time on the front foot and Cole played Boscagli down the left and he fired his shot low which seemed to surprise the keeper and it went past him and into the goal. Once again it seemed like the trophy was ours, but after we gave away a free kick to stop a counter, they sent the ball in and it was headed out wide and then played back inside to Jakubiak completely unmarked and he picked his spot and equalized to force penalties. The shootout was intense and each keeper managed to make a save to extend it. Finally with the 8th shot their shooter sent his off the left post and it was Le Marshand who tucked his shot away to win it.

        Sunderland AFC 0 - 2 Grimsby Town
        GRI - Kelly 26', Cole 90'
        MOTM: Wolf

Despite our huge advantage in possession, the amount of chances proved to be equal. Luckily we took ours better than they did. We took the lead in the first half when Harris played Kelly overlapping on the right and he placed his shot back across the goal to beat the keeper. Our defense continued to hold strong, and then in the final minute we put it to rest as Wolf played Cole around the left and he powered past the keeper to the right side of the goal.

            Season 7

            The Mariners

            March 2023

            Grimsby Town 1 - 0 Stoke City
            GRI - Boscagli 44'
            MOTM: Zaha

An unspectacular, but solid win this time out. We created several chances, but found ourselves rather wasteful leading us to grab just a single goal. That came just before the half when Zaha cut in from the right with the ball and as the defense scrambled to react he found Boscagli on the left side and he powered his shot into the top right corner. The second half wasn't all that eventful and the scoreline stayed the same as the final whistle blew.

            F.A. Cup Quarter Final
            Grimsby Town 1 - 3 Arsenal FC
            GRI - Harris 70'
            ARS - Weigl 26', 62', Musa 29'
            MOTM: Weigl

This was the most ridiculous match I have ever taken part in. Arsenal was completely undeserving of the win and we should have scored at least 4 or 5 goals. Oblak proved why he is one of the best in the world, making at least 3 world class saves including one from the penalty spot. When he wasn't saving them we were hitting the post or sending our shots just wide. Weigl gave them the lead after our clearance only made it as far as him and he chested it down just outside the box and then fired it into the top corner. They then scored again just minutes later after our defense fell apart and allowed Musa to go through on goal and all he had to do was beat the keeper. Weigl added another in almost identical fashion after he blocked yet another clearance and then fired it into the net. We finally pulled one back with Wolf sending the ball across the box for Harris to tap in on the back post and finally beat Oblak. There was nothing else we could do afterwards though and we are knocked out despite having the better performance on the night.

Champion's League Knockout Round Leg 2
            Grimsby Town 3 (3) - (2) 1 Atletico Madrid
            GRI - Boscagli 90', 94', Cole 103'
            ATL - Torres 99'
            MOTM: Boscagli

Now that is why we bought him! Boscagli accounted for every goal we scored in this one, and we needed every last one of those as well. We tried all match to grab the equalizing goal on aggregate and nothing was going our way. Then in the final minute, on the brink of elimination, Zaha intercepted a back pass and found Boscagli sprinting toward the left side of the goal. He used his right foot to place it around the keeper into the bottom right corner. Then early in extra time we won a free kick outside of the box and it was Boscagli to step up and he curled his shot over the wall and into the top right corner to give us a stunning lead on aggregate. That was short lived though as Torres got the ball outside of our box and wrapped his right foot around it to send it towards goal, off the post, and in giving them the advantage on away goals. Boscagli wasn't about to let us go down like that though and he pushed forward on a counter the next time he had the ball. He sent a cross in from the left and Cole was there in the middle to meet it and direct it to the far post to send us through to the quarter finals.

            AFC Bournemouth 0 - 3 Grimsby Town
            GRI - Boscagli 29', 78', Dembele 42'
            MOTM: Boscagli

A very dominating win, and we need as many of those as possible as we try to tack down United in the title race. Boscagli opened the scoring after Zaha played him the ball and he took it across the box before turning the corner towards goal and then slotting it across to the far post. Dembele doubled the lead for us after Kessie played a great ball to get him through in front of goal and he placed it into the bottom left corner. Boscagli completed his brace after he beat Mings down the left and cut it back inside and the defender stuck his leg out and cut him down. He powered his penalty to the left side and the keeper went the right way but it was perfectly placed off the left post and in.

            Grimsby Town 2 - 1 Leicester City
            GRI - Dembele 62', Cole 86'
            LEI - Rashford 40'
            MOTM: Dembele

Leicester were rather poor tonight, and their one goal was the result of a bit of luck on their end. It came just before the half as a corner was sent into the box and it fell to Rashford as the defender got stuck on his back and he was able to trap it and then fired it into the back of the net. It took until the second half for us to find an answer and Boscagli had his shot blocked by the defender and the ball fell to Dembele and he wasted no time to fire it inside the near post. Then with time running out Boscagli crossed the ball in and Dembele was there to meet it, but his shot was blocked and fell to Cole instead right in front of goal and he poked it past the keeper for the deciding goal.

              Spoiler

After a successful August, QPR have run into a bad stretch with a draw and 2 losses in their last three matches. The Huddersfield match I thought we would come back and win when we scored right at the start of the second half to make it 2-1. But not even a minute later we would give up a goal to make it 3-1 and ended up losing 3-2.

Next we have Sunderland in the 3rd round of the EFL Cup.

Not doing too much with transfers just yet. I want to play a month or two to figure out my squad, best line ups and who wins the position battles before deciding who to buy/sell.

                1-0

                81’ Chris Dagnall

                1-1 Draw

For a near bottom of the table side Crewe gave us a lot of problems in this game and they nicked a point in this affair

                1’ Brandon Miele

                39’ Brandon Miele

                4’ Tony Cook

                48’ Alex Lawless

                1-1 Draw

What is it with these bottom level clubs that give us issues? Once again a team from the bottom 4 in the table nicks a point off us.

                    Season 7

                    The Mariners

                    April 2023

                    Arsenal FC 0 - 1 Grimsby Town
                    GRI - Boscagli 87'
                    MOTM: Sidibe

We had no business winning this one as Arsenal dominated every measurable stat from the game. We failed to create many chances the entire time, and it was almost over before it started when they earned a penalty inside the first 5 minutes only to see Coman send it high over the bar. After absorbing their constant attack for almost the entire 90 minutes, we got a counter going and Sidibe sent a cross in from the left finding Boscagli in the middle and he nodded it past the keeper for the only goal of the match.

                    Grimsby Town 1 - 1 Manchester City
                    GRI - Harris 24'
                    MCI - Koziello 85'
                    MOTM: Harris

We were way too wasteful tonight, and it came back to bite us. We got out to a lead after Quiroga played the ball in to Harris in the box and he wrestled with the defender to come out with the ball and then place it around the keeper to the bottom right corner. Afterwards we kept our pressure up and missed chances that should have given us at least 2 or 3 more goals. Then with 5 minutes left City went on the attack and they moved the ball around to perfection leading to Koziello having an easy tap in to the open goal on the left side for the equalizer.

                    Champion's League Quarter-Final Leg 1
                    Grimsby Town 1 - 2 Juventus
                    GRI - Zaha 69'
                    JUV - Borre 45', 63'
                    MOTM: Borre

We just dug ourselves a pretty big hole to get out of now going into the second leg down a goal, and having two away goals to contend with on top of that. Borre scored just before the break as he held off a challenge from Caulker to get through and then powered his shot through the keeper and it carried on into the net. He then added a second after a great bit of passing led to him getting the ball wide open on the back post and he just played it across the line. We pulled one back with Kamada playing Zaha through on the right and he kept his shot low and put it past the keeper to the bottom left corner. We couldn't grab any more after that and it will be an uphill battle to try to advance to the semi-final now.

                    West Brom 0 - 4 Grimsby Town
                    GRI - Dembele 45', 58', Kessie 65', Zaha 75'
                    MOTM: Dembele

This was commanding performance from everyone out there and West Brom never really looked like they were in it. We took the lead right before the half when Morris got around the right and sent a low ball in that was deflected and a mix up between the defender and the keeper let the ball pop free and Dembele was there to tap it in. Dembele added a second after Paterson bombed forward with the ball and played a great ball to send him through and he slid it low around the keeper. Dembele then turned provider for our third and he held the defender on his back was he waited for Kessie to run in on the right and he played him the ball and he placed it back across the goal to the far post. Zaha then capped it off after Vieira played him through on the right and he beat the keeper to the bottom left corner.

                    Champion's League Quarter-Final Leg 2
                    Juventus 1 - 1 Grimsby Town
                    JUV - Lemina 15'
                    GRI - Dembele 24'
                    MOTM: Morrison

We had our chance and we blew it. It started off on a sour note as Juventus extended their aggregate lead after breaking down our defense and getting the ball to Lemina in the middle of the box and he finished it to the right side of the goal. But we proved that we weren't going to go down easily and Morrison led us on a counter and threaded the ball through to Dembele and he placed it inside the near post to bring us within one on the aggregate once again. Then just after the break luck was on our side as Rugani slid through Zaha in the box and the referee pointed to the spot. Boscagli stepped up and powered his shot to the top right and their keeper came across and pushed it away to keep us from getting the goal that would have forced extra time. We didn't see a better chance than that the rest of the way and we now are out of all competitions meaning we can put our full focus on the league now.

                    Grimsby Town 2 - 3 Middlesbrough FC
                    GRI - Wolf 17', 40'
                    MID - Ramirez 45', 73', Folivi 68'
                    MOTM: Wolf

Absolutely unbelievable that we lost this one. Middlesbrough literally scored with every shot they took. We raced out to a fast start and Kelly played Wolf through on the left and he finished it across to the far post. Wolf then added a second after Kelly's shot was saved, and he was the first to the rebound and tapped it into the open net. Then just before the half they pulled one back when Ramirez got the ball at the top of the box and turned towards goal and fired his shot into the top left corner. In the second half our defense seemingly fell asleep as a cross went over their heads and everyone just watched as Folivi pulled it down on the back post and then fired it past our keeper. Then with their third shot of the day they scored their third goal as Ramirez got it inside our box and he pulled it back to let the defender run past him and he powered it into the back of the net.

                    Grimsby Town 1 - 1 Watford FC
                    GRI - Zaha 5'
                    WAT - Jakubiak 90'
                    MOTM: Boscagli

Utterly disappointing, and I am worried now that our exit from the Champion's League is dropping us into a slump right when it's vital that we must stay in form. Zaha gave us the lead early after Boscagli played him the ball around the right and he took his shot quick and placed it perfectly across the goal into the bottom left corner. We were rather wasteful the rest of the way, but it looked like we were going to be alright all the way up until the final minute. Our defense let them get past us and a low ball was sent to the back post where Jakubiak tapped it in for the equalizer.

                    GRI - Boscagli 35'
                    MOTM: Dembele

It wasn't pretty, but it was a huge win and 3 precious points. We took the lead after Dembele was able to play Boscagli through on the left and he took his time to pick his spot and the slotted it into the bottom right corner. We were honestly rather poor for most of the night, and we are lucky to get these points. Now we take a 2 point lead into the final month with 3 games left to play.

I'm sorry for not posting anything in two weeks, but I've been quite busy with school. Especially this week is filled with exams and essays. I'll try to get something up over the weekend, although I don't promise anything.

I have morbid curiosity to see you do a League 2 CM so I'd be down for Crawley Town.

Chievo or Bastia would be the other choices.

End of season for Grimsby will be up tonight. I meant to send all of the writeup and pictures to my email so I could post it at work, but I forgot to do that so it will have to wait until later!

2 point lead over United with 3 games left to play. Knocked out of both the Champion's League and the FA cup already, leaving only the league to focus on. You'll see if I am able to hold to win my 2nd Premier League title, or if it will be another collapse like 2 seasons ago where I led the table going down the stretch and gave it away.

                            Grimsby Town 5 - 2 Liverpool FC
                            GRI - Zaha 11', Boscagli 39', 75', 90', Dembele 59'

                            MOTM: Boscagli

Boscagli is proving his worth once again, and he accounted for every single one of the five goals we scored today. We got the lead early after Boscagli played Zaha down the right and he put his shot low just under the reach of the keeper. But Liverpool found an answer and Markovic equalized after getting the ball on the back post and placing it just inside the near post. It got worse for us after and Zahibo won the ball to go through on goal and then fire it past our keeper for the lead. Boscagli was able to bring us back after Zaha played him down the right and he tried to go for the far post but it was deflected back inside the near post for the equalizer. We never looked back after that and Dembele gave us the lead after Boscagli sent in a corner and he met it on the near post and directed it between the keeper and the defender on the post. Boscagli then added a second to extend our lead as he ran down the left side and then cut the ball back towards the middle and fired it with his left foot across to the right side of the goal. Then as Liverpool desperately tried to get back in it, we cleared a corner away after they had brought their keeper up and Boscagli was the first to the ball and there was nothing between him and the goal as he just ran it into their net to get his hat-trick.

                            Newcastle United 0 - 1 Grimsby Town
                            GRI - Dembele 90'
                            MOTM: Caulker

What better way to win the league than on a goal with the last kick of the match! We came into this one knowing that 3 points would guarantee the title with a game left to play, and for 90 minutes we just couldn't find a way to bag a goal against their stout defense. Then finally in the closing seconds we had to reset after they cleared a corner away and we ended up getting the ball to Wolf on the left and he raced towards the end line. He sent a low ball across the face of the goal and Dembele was waiting there on the back post to tap in the title winning goal in dramatic fashion. United pushed us hard, but we are bringing home our second Premier League trophy now!

                            Grimsby Town 2 - 0 Norwich City
                            GRI - Boscagli 42', Kelly 65'
                            MOTM: Dembele

Even though the match didn't mean anything, we wanted to go out there and give our supporters a show for all that they have done for us this season. Right before the first half was over, Boscagli got the ball from Dembele out on the left and he fired his shot across the goal into the bottom right corner to give us the lead. In the second half it was our substitutes combining as Harris played Kelly through in front of goal and he placed it around the keeper into the right side of the goal. All that was left was to celebrate, life the trophy, and give thanks to all of our supporters for an amazing year.

                                Youth

The board set our youth objective to earn £2,550,000 in youth player sales within 2 seasons. We didn't sell any of our graduates this season, but we still have another season left to accomplish this goal. I don't see this as an emphasis for next year though, if I like our players then I won't be selling them without a good reason.

                                Brand Exposure

The board set a short term objective of earning £42,500,000 in shirt sales for the season. We accomplished this by the end of September. Our biggest sellers were Boscagli and Zaha who both made their debuts this season. The long term objective is to earn £323,000,000 in prize money within 3 seasons and we are well on our way to that almost knocking out half of that in this first season.

                                Financial

Financially, the board wants us to increase the worth of the club by 15% within 2 seasons. We absolutely smashed that in the first year after getting our hefty award for winning the league.

                                Domestic Success

Starting with the obvious, the board asked us to finish top 4, and we more than exceeded that by winning the title. In the FA cup our objective was to reach the round of 16, and we went just one further before we were disappointingly knocked out by Arsenal in the quarter-final.

                                Continental Success

In European play, the board only wanted to see us reach the knockout rounds of the Champion's League. We once again went a step further and reached the quarter-final before getting knocked out in heart-breaking fashion by Juventus.

                                Summary

Overall this was a massive success of a season for us. Winning the title is never a feat to be looked down upon. We shocked everyone by winning it in our first year after getting promoted, but we learned the past 2 years that it wasn't as easy of an accomplishment as we first thought. Now we have to find a way to defend our title unlike the last time and hope to build upon our successes both domestically and in Europe.
