I didn't realize that it was so rare until I read around on the internet later about people having issues with reactions. But, I never trained him once and just let him grow naturally and that is what I ended up with. You can see that things like his positioning got stuck low though. I decided that I am going to start training him now though since his reactions are maxed out and see if I can't get those up and make him an all around beast standing at 6'7"

what was his potential? My 6'7" GK in Newport's academy probably tops out at 79, occupies hella space though

It was somewhere in the 80-84 range so he is close to capping out in terms of natural growth at this point.

My second season at the best club in the world is aimed at proving just that: that we're the best club in the world. Fresh of a La Liga/Copa Del Rey double I look to lead this squad to a treble in our return to Champions League. For that, however, I did not receive an increase in the transfer budget as I was provided with $79.5 million (actually half million less than what I received last season) although the wage budget was increased by a cool $100K (to $375K). I went into the season with a plan on the moves I wanted to make.

For pre-season I agreed to visit Australia and go back to where my coaching career started. We were joined FC Bayern, Melbourne City, and PSG in Group A of the International Cup. But before we even played our first preseason game we were already making moves.

              Transfer News
              • Otegui Khalifi (RB, 66 OVR) sold to Deportivo Alavés for $725K.
              • Luciano Wildschut (RW, 80 OVR) acquired from FC Twente for $8 million + Cristian Tello (RW, 83 OVR).
Daniel Amartey (CM, 83 OVR) sold to Everton for $45 million.

              ______________________________________

International Cup - Group Match 1
FC Barcelona - FC Bayern (1-1)
              Karlsson 62' (Wildschut)
              Lewandowski 82'
              Cruz Torres 57'

Each club brought out their B-squads for this one (Lewandowski was a late sub for Bayern) as we started pre-season with an entertaining draw. Wildschut made an impact in his first game with a Blaugrana jersey stealing the ball near midfield in the 61st minute to set up Petter Karlsson for the opening score.
              ______________________________________

              Transfer News
              • Munir (RW, 82 OVR) sold to Manchester City for $26.75 million.
              • Viktor Kovalenko acquired from Atalanta for $30 million.

              ______________________________________

International Cup - Group Match 2
Melbourne City - FC Barcelona (1-3)
              Samper 30'
              Rafinha 45+1' (Karlsson)
              Verdejo 82' (Cruz Torres)

              Mauk 85'

The B-squad got the call once again vs the locals and they put on a show, firing 14 times and finding the target on 10 of those. Even academy-graduate Darío Verdejo got in on the action late. Kovalenko was mostly solid in his debut.

International Cup - Group Match 3
              FC Barcelona - PSG (4-1)
              Messi 45+2' (Neymar)
              Rafinha 71' (Müller)
              Neymar 78' (Müller)

              Pogba 88'
              Vidal 90+1'
Messi 6' (Bruised elbow, out for 5 days)

This was the first test for our main squad and while they showed some rust in the first half they really turned it on in the second half after Messi's goal in the first stoppage time. We had an early scare there for a moment with Messi's injury but luckily it's just a minor thing.

              International Cup - Semi Final
FC Barcelona - Al Ahli (4-1)
              Wildschut 38' (Samper)
              Kovalenko 53' (Samper)

              Sami 57'
              Samper 67' (Karlsson)
              Sandro 80 (pen)

This pre-season was really about checking out the depth of our roster so I called on our B-squad again against the Saudi club and Sergi Samper stepped up to play a great game, assisting twice before scoring his own goal to seal the deal after Zakaria Sami scored a surprise goal for Al Ahli.

              International Cup - Final
FC Barcelona - FC Bayern (6-0)
              Neymar 27'
              Messi 35' (pen)
              Roberto 37' (Neymar)
              Messi 45+3' (pen)
              Neymar 51' (Roberto)
              Müller 59' (Busquets)

              Alonso 86'
              Varane 45+1'

This was already being a dominant performance by us before Raphaël Varane, the ex Real Madrid defender, fouled Neymar from behind inside the box in stoppage time of the first half, leading to Messi's second goal and leaving his side with just 10 men for the second half of the game. Bayern never even got to hit the target with either of the two shots they managed. Excellent pre-season for us.

              Spanish Supercopa, 1st Leg
              FC Barcelona - Levante UD(0-0)

Our B-squad was unable to pass their first true test of the season, failing to outplay Levante at the Camp Nou. This was a very evenly-matched game in which Levante barely edged us out in possession (52%) while both squads had the same number of shots (8) and shots on goal (4).

              Spanish Supercopa, 2nd Leg
Levante UD - FC Barcelona (0-0, 0-0 agg, 4-5 PS)

I have to give props to Levante who put on a great performance in front of their fans at the Ciutat de València, their goalkeeper Jesús in particular who showed why he's currently the first choice GK for the Spanish NT. He gobbled up 15 saves, a 9.7 game rating, and even Man of the Match honors, but our guys executed all five of our kicks flawlessly in the penalty shootout which was enough to give us the win coupled with the one save Bernd Leno made.

              ______________________________________

Review: It sucked that our pre-season form didn't carry into our games against Levante but given the trophies I have to call this an excellent pre-season. We were dominant in Australia and I think the challenges we faced against Levante in the Supercopa just better prepare us for the challenges we'll face this season now that we're once again Spain's top club.

The real juicy stories are in our transfers where a number of things happened. My #1 goal in this transfer window was completed, and that was to grab Wildschut from Twente. Messi is getting up there in age and Neymar isn't too far behind and this club needed to have someone developing under their wings ready to take over when the time is right. Wildschut, who has potential to be special, is that guy and he showed plenty of flashes of that special potential in pre-season. I figured it made no sense to bring him here without a set plan to give him playing time which is why I included Tello in the deal. The idea was for Wildschut and Sandro to be our backup wingers and B-squad starters but I couldn't turn down $64 million for Sandro so we had to part ways with him. His departure opens an even bigger window for Wildschut to eventually become our first option off the bench on the wings which is why I replaced Sandro with Pedro, who returns to bring his career full circle at Barcelona and probably won't have a problem with the youngster's eventual rise in the ranks.

I also didn't go into this transfer window looking to sell Amartey, who was excellent for us in the second half of last season, but Everton continues to scout our roster for talent and I couldn't turn down $45 million after acquiring him just over half of that ($24 million) a few months ago. Back then my true target had been Kovalenko and I didn't have to worry about the funds this time around in order to acquire him. I'm very excited about what he'll bring to the table. An under-the-radar move was finally getting rid of Munir, I couldn't really get more than his market value for him but we can finally turn the page on that chapter now that Petter Karlsson is fully healthy and ready to go.

              La Masia
              (listed by ranking)

LM - Ismael Barrios (60 OVR, 86-92 POT): This 15-year old from Argentina starts the season as the top prospect in our academy. Barrios, who is technically gifted, displays noticeable ball control (76) and balance (74) and has a ton of room to grow for being an already developed prospect.

LM - Pablo Acosta (59 OVR, 82-88): 17-year old from Argentina and yet another technically gifted prospect for the club. Acosta's agility (80) is easily his best attribute and he also possess the kind of ball control (73) and pace (71acc/70spd) at his age that makes us comfortable about how he projects at his position.

CM - Jose Vargas (49 OVR, 81-87): This 15-year old from Argentina described as an attacker is the rawest prospect in the academy but his potential was too enticing to pass up on him. His pace (76acc/69spd) and agility (71) are what stand out at this time.

CF - Eligio Domínguez (59 OVR, 79-85): 15-year old from Venezuela described as technically gifted. Domínguez doesn't have a particular attribute that jumps off the page but he projects as someone showing great potential.

RM - Luis Sanchez (56 OVR, 79-85): 15-year old from Argentina described as, you guessed it, technically gifted. Sanchez has good pace (69acc/65spd) for his age to go with notable agility (73).

RB - Manuel Navarro (56 OVR, 77-83): Now a 16-year old from Spain described by scouts as an attacker. Navarro actually possesses decent pace (72 acc/70 spd) at a very young age and is very agile (72) as well. He has been improving his defensive game although he continues to project as a depth player.

CB - Sergio Torres (59 OVR, 74-80): 15-year old from Spain described as physically strong. Torres oozes some impressive traits for his young age such as his aggression (76), jumping (73), strength (65), and pace (71 acc/68 spd) but he's still raw as a defender and will need to work hard on that aspect of his game.
              * Recent addition

Flavio Mansilla (ST, 64 OVR) and Valerio Segura (LM, 59 OVR) were promoted to the senior roster early this season. Mansilla is in line to be the B-squad's backup striker while Segura has a lot of work to do still to get some playing time.

              Spoiler

9/2: vs Ivory Coast (International Friendly)
              9/6: vs Uruguay (WC Qualifying)
              9/13: vs Atlético Madrid
              9/16: vs Lazio (Champions League)
              9/18: at Villareal CF
              9/21: vs UD Las Palmas
              9/25: vs Rayo Vallecano
9/30: at FC Basel (Champions League)

Our season will actually start at the end of August on the road at Anoeta before I handle couple of international friendlies with La Vinotinto as I prepare that group for a Copa America next summer. Once I go back to Spain I'll have to prepare the squad for a tough home opener vs Atlético and our first CL game against Lazio. A trip to La Cerámicosa could be a tricky one but from there we should be able to handle Las Palmas and Rayo before we head to Switzerland to face Basel.

              Wish me luck!

Wow texasbum06 ten years that's amazing.

I have two careers running side by side Juventus and LA Galaxy. Which leads to a question I have. I have taken some MLS teams and put them in Argentina football league. With that format will I still be able to do the Latin America competition. If so when does that competition start. I'm in the end of September second season with Galaxy. Thanks in advance.

                    Evgeni Aldonin
                    Aldonin Secures Rubin Job
Long-time CSKA Moscow midfielder Evgeni Aldonin has jumped into a managerial role for the first time since his retirement in 2014. Rubin Kazan hopes Aldonin can bring the Tatarstan side back to prominence in Russian football after several down years following the departure of Kurban Berdyev. Under Berdyev, Rubin won consecutive RFPL titles in 2008 and 2009. Those glory days are a distant memory now as Rubin finished 10th in 2015-16 and has done no better than 5th in the past 5 seasons. Hiring Aldonin is certainly a risk since he has no previous experience. In the end, Rubin should be judged by if they qualify for Europe this campaign. Failure to do so would likely see a quick departure for the 36-year-old Aldonin and send Rubin back to the drawing board.

Thanks vrabbit. It had me going, being that I last played in Latin America back in the 360 days lol. I'm using Galaxy like a development squad getting young talent growing them and selling for a big return. Already got 23 mil for Bradford Jameson IV.

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

Hey guys I got another question. I now have another CM I started, still doing Juve and Galaxy, but I now I started one with CAM in Brazil. Here is were my question comes trying figure if this is a glitch or should happen. I signed a 15 year old phenom. But when I went to train him he does not show up. I see him in the YA but when go to select players for training I don't see him. Trying to figure is there a rule in Brazilian football that prevents trading 15 year olds? Thanks in advance.

We Try. We Fail. We Win.

                          March 2021

                          Hertha BSC 2 - 2 RB Leipzi
                          g
                          Esswein 39', Allan 45'
                          Demme 35', Coutinho 54'

                          Mainz 05 1 - 3 Hertha BSC
                          Luckassen 90'
                          Selke 8', Sané 18', Gnabry 85' pen

                          Round of 16, 2nd leg
                          Hertha BSC (3) 3 - 1 (1) Liverpool FC
                          Duda 7', Embolo 80', 90'
                          Firmino 73'

What a way to beat a strong Liverpool side to advance into the quarter finals! Ondrej Duda scored the first goal of this Champions League matchup early on by heading the ball at the near post. We then went on the defence to defend our lead, and it worked for an hour. Then Liverpool's Roberto Firmino made a great run into the box and slotted the ball into the bottom left corner after receiving a pass to score an important away goal for Liverpool. As we were getting knocked out on the away goal rule, we through men forward. This worked out well only 7 minutes later as Breel Embolo headed our second goal of the night from a corner kick. In stoppage time, the young Swiss attacker got his brace from a counter attack and secured our place in the quarter final! Next up: FC Barcelona.

                          Hertha BSC 2 - 2 1. FC Köln
                          Embolo 7' pen, Weiser 17'
                          Risse 30'm Quintena 88'

                          April 2021

                          Hertha BSC 3 - 0 Borussia Dortmund
                          Duda 28', 59', Embolo 86' pen

It was first against second in this game, and five points separated the two sides. This was a must-win game, and our boys knew that. Ondrej Duda, our attacking midfielder and our top scorer in the league, lead our lines as he shot the ball into the net from Mitchell Weiser's low cross. In the second half, the Slovak doubled our lead with a shot into the top right corner of the net. Finally, half an hour later, Breel Embolo added another one to the scoreboard from the penalty spot.

                          FC Schalke 04 0 - 0 Hertha BSC

Even though the result doesn't show it, we really should've won this game. We controlled the match and hit the woodwork three times. Unlucky.

                          Hertha BSC 2 - 0 VfB Stuttgart
                          Selke 9', Demirbay 80'

Caglar Söyüncü sprained his ankle and will be out for 3 weeks.

                          Quarter Final, 1st leg
                          FC Barcelona 0 - 0 Hertha BSC

This was a boring game, mainly played in the centre of the field, but at least Barca didn't score. Even better, they only managed to take one shot in the entire game. A great performance from our defence which has been the strongest part of Hertha BSC for the last few years.

                          Eintracht Braunschweig 0 - 2 Hertha BSC
                          Platte 20' pen, Allan 44'

                          Quarter Final, 2nd leg
                          Hertha BSC (1) 1 - 0 (0) FC Barcelona
                          Duda 82'

Ondrej Duda is going to get a serious raise in his pay if he continues to score these extremely important goals. Just like in the first game, we played defensively to minimise the risk of conceding a costly away goal. We were beginning to prepare for extra time, until Ondrej Duda received a pass in the left side of the box. He rolled the ball past Barca's defender and lifted the ball towards the top right corner of the goal with his left foot. Ter Stegen got his hand onto the ball, but it wasn't enough as the ball still found its way into the back of the net. We held onto our lead for the remaining minutes and beat Barcelona! We will face Manchester United in the semi finals.

                          Hertha BSC 1 - 1 VfL Wolfsburg
                          Demirbay 90'
                          Sampaio 75'

                          Semi Final
                          Bayer Leverkusen 0 - 0 Hertha BSC, 4-5 pen

After yet another tough and even game between us and Bayer Leverkusen, we came out on top to reach the final of the DFB Pokal for the very manieth time in a row. After tight 120 minutes, it all came down to penalties. Leverkusen's Sven Bender missed their deciding penalty, and our Marvin Plattenhardt blasted his penalty in afterwards to eliminate Leverkusen. We will play against Köln in the final.

                          Bundesliga Table

                          1. Hertha BSC, 67 pts
                          2. Borussia Dortmund, 59 pts
                          3. Bayern München, 57 pts
                          4. Bayer Leverkusen, 54 pts
                          5. 1. FC Köln, 50 pts
                          6. FC Schalke 04, 46 pts
                          -------------------------------------------------
                          16. Eintracht Braunschweig, 25 pts
                          17. FC St. Pauli, 21 pts
                          18. FC Ingolstadt, 19 pts

                          My Thoughts

                          The League -
We're going strong in the league, extending our lead over Dortmund to 8 points. Our league-strongest defence has been key in this as scoring has been problematic at times. Still, we are getting those wins which is what matters, and lifting the league title for the second time in a row is only a matter of formality now.

Champions League - We have been playing very defensively, but what else do you expect against attacking teams like Barcelona and Liverpool? At the same time, we have been playing at a top notch level, and I think we will beat Man United. Last season they eliminated us in the quarter finals, so we will be looking to get our revenge.

Players - As you saw above, Ondrej Duda scored quite a few very important goals, and together with Mitchell Weiser on the right flank, Duda has been our most valuable asset in attack. Our entire defence has been quality as always.

In contrast, our strikers haven't been that great as neither Felix Platte nor Davie Selke have been able to reach double digits in their scoring tally this season. Because of this, Breel Embolo has become starting striker instead of playing out on the wing. Needless to say, something will be done to Platte and/or Selke in the summer.

Thank you for reading this post! I hope you have enjoyed it! Any feedback or suggestions will be appreciated!

                            Duda 44', Platte 90'

A very important win and a strong defensive performance. Our #10 Ondrej Duda put us ahead right before the break with an accurate shot into the bottom left corner of the net. In stoppage time, Man United had a chance to equalise from the penalty spot, but our 36-year-old Norwegian keeper Rune Jarstein did well to save the penalty. From the following counter attack Felix Platte netted our second goal to double our advantage going to the Theatre of Dreams.

Hertha BSC 1 - 0 FC St. Pauli
                            Darida 45'

With this win, we have secured the league title!

                            Semi Final, 2nd leg
                            Manchester United (0) 0 - 1 (3) Hertha BSC
                            Duda 8'

Theatre of Dreams, indeed! Ondrej Duda scored yet another goal to secure our place in the final. Man United fought well, but they weren't able to penetrate our strong defence. We will play against Arsenal in the final.

                            FC Augsburg 0 - 3 Hertha BSC
                            Weiser 43', Esswein 53', Selke 80'

                            Hertha BSC 2 - 0 Bayern München
                            Gnabry 16', Embolo 34'

A very good way to wrap the league season up. We controlled the game, and the mighty Bayern didn't stand a chance against our world class attack. Serge Gnabry headed the ball into the net to put us ahead, and 20 minutes later Breel Embolo scored a contender for the goal of the season. The attack received the ball 30 yards away from the Bayern goal, turned around a defender, took a few steps forward, and unleashed a powerful strike from 25 yards out, flying into the top left corner of the net.

We have won the German double for the second time in a row! A very strong performance from the boys was all it took to beat Köln in this exciting cup final. Breel Embolo put us ahead from the penalty spot, and a minute later our young midfielder Allan curled the ball into the bottom left corner of the net. At the hour mark, Köln got one back from a corner, but Kerem Demirbay destroyed their hopes of a comeback with a well-taken tapin volley.

It was Arsenal against Hertha BSC in the Champions League final 2021. The Volksparkstadion in Hamburg was sold out, and the teams were getting ready to fight for the title of the most prestigious club competition. Furthermore, the two teams had faced each other twice in the group stages, with Hertha winning both matches.

Unfortunately for us, though, this time the story was different. We controlled the game in regular time, but then extra time began. We had a couple of chances early on, but they weren't that great. Then everything changed when Niklas Stark tapped Oxlade-Chamberlain in the box. The referee pointed to the penalty spot, and the English wide man stepped to take the penalty. An ice-cold shot into the top right corner, and the Gunners were ahead. Our boys from Berlin were shocked by this turn of events, and we couldn't string together more than five passes at a time. Arsenal took advantage of this, as in the 114th minute their Japanese forward Yoshinori Muto doubled their lead with a powerful strike from the edge of the box after our Maxi Mittelstädt had misplaced a pass. Davie Selke pulled one back in the 120th minute from a counter attack, but it wasn't enough as the referee blew his whistle a minute later. We had lost, and the treble still remains just a dream.

                            My Thoughts

                            Domestic Double! -
It feels amazing to win our second German double in a row. The team played really well throughout the entire season and we deserved it. Next season we'll be aiming to lift our third league title in a row.

Champions League - It was heartbreaking to get so close to winning the Champions League but still fail to do so. However, next season we will have more experienced and a stronger squad. The treble is on its way, slowly but surely.

Attack vs Defence - Out of the top four teams in the Bundesliga, we had the weakest attack with 58 scored goals, less than two per game. In contrast, we had the best defence in the league with only 17 goals conceded, exactly one every two games. Our defence is one of the best in the world, but unfortunately the same cannot be said about our attack. This is something I will address in the summer.

Transfer Plans - A couple of deadwood players might be sold, as well as Davie Selke and/or Felix Platte. The two strikers scored only 18 goals in total last season which is not something we at Hertha BSC expect from our attackers. The arrival of Julian Draxler on a free transfer will certainly improve the situation.

                            Transfer Budget: €54M
                            Wage Budget: €260k

Last but not least, I would like to get you guys involved in this career (at least for a little bit)! I'd like to hold a press conference where I answer your questions about players, the season, or anything else you feel like asking. Even though the thread is moving ahead slowly, I hope that we can still get a handful of questions and answers. After all, without our wonderful community this thread would be nothing.

Thank you for reading this post! I hope you have enjoyed it! Any feedback or suggestions will be appreciated!

Heartbreak in the search for the treble!

Do you think that you can take that final step and complete the treble next season?
Can you improve your attack while maintaining your defensive solidarity?
Will you be spending big or sticking mostly to what you've got?

Simp - will you seriously consider employing Embolo at striker full time? If not, could you describe the kind of striker you have in mind for the job?
