Q: It looks like you have managed to cope better with the loss of Graziano Pelle this time around compared to last time. What is different than before?

A: February is a short month, but we took full advantage of it taking 9 points in the 3 games played. Even though we lost our best striker we still managed to put up 3 goals in each of the 3 games. Our attackers are very much on the same page right now. Suso and Depay are providing great support for Iglesias on the wings, and the addition of Marcos Lopes has really helped take the pressure off of Juan Dominguez in the midfield. Everyone is playing together as a team, and right now it is resulting in beautiful football.

Q: Another injury has struck, this time Mario Gaspar. How does this effect the team going forward?

A: It hurts our back line, but we have a capable reserve in Tarık Çamdal to fill in. Gaspar hurt his hamstring during practice and we are expecting him to be out for 1-2 months. We are hoping to have both him and Pelle back to finish the season as we make our push for European football.

Q: The youth academy you have set up has really blossomed and you have the academy full of players waiting to make their senior debuts. Do you expect any players to be making the move up soon?

A: We have several great talents in the academy at the moment that we fully believe have the potential to be impact players for Deportivo in the future. There may be a some that will get called up before the end of the season, but it is an ongoing evaluation. I do promise that we are keeping a close eye on all of the youngsters.

AFC Wimbledon are the 2014/2015 Football League 1 Champions! After finishing the season with 1 draw and 2 defeats it looked like the possibilities of achieving back to back league championships were gone, but miraculously 1 single point separated them from 2nd place Huddersfield! Chavez will now have to think long and hard about how he will prepare this team, which many thought would be a mid-table team in League 1, for the FL Championship. Will he cut players that don't seem talented enough for the Championship such as Charlie Sheringham, Jack Midson and Jake Nicholson? Or will he honor the hard work all of these players have made the past 2 years and keep current squad?

Charlton Athletic were clear favorites to win the Promotion Playoffs, but they could not handle the pressure and fell to 6th place Portsmouth. It looked like Portsmouth would join AFC Wimbledon in achieving back-to-back promotions, but one upset in the playoffs was enough for them as Bristol City took the lead achieved promotion.

Wimbledon goalkeeper Ross Worner has earned himself back-to-back Golden Gloves after finishing this season with the most clean sheets (32) followed by Charlton Athletic's Hamer (25). Ross Worner is also the only Wimbledon player to be named in the Football League 1's Team of The Year. The League 1 Golden Boot has been awarded to Huddersfield's Wells (23 goals) who also finished the season with most assists (12).

Ex-Wimbledon striker Danny Hylton's goal scoring record for Wimbledon from the 2013/2014 season remains standing at 25 goals. Danny Kedwell was the club's top scorer with 17 league goals in 31 league appearances. It will be interesting to see who takes the starting role next season, as Terry Gornell looked promising with 6 goals in 11 league appearances.

Academy prospects Diego Ortiz (63, potential to be special) and Kyle Shelvey (62, 75-81 POT) have officially been promoted to the senior squad and attended the team's last training before going out on vacation. Mario Ruiz (60-64ovr, 81-87 POT) is expected to be promoted to the senior team in the upcoming months when he turns 16.

The Championship Awaits

I have received confirmation that current Manager of The Year Chavez is indeed looking to bring in new players to the squad as he prepares for his biggest challenge yet. Chavez has informed the Wimbledon board of directors that he is interested in 27 year old CDM Sam Hird from Chesterfield, 26 year old CDM Chris Basham from Blackpool, and 27 year old ST James Hanson from Bradford City. It was rumored that George Francomb might be coming back to Kingsmeadow from Ipswich, but I assure you it is only a rumor. Francomb's value has doubled since he left Wimbledon and his salary exceeds that of any current Wimbledon player.

AFC Wimbledon have qualified for the Europa League!
Yes, you read that right gentlemen, AFC Wimbledon will be playing their first European match this upcoming August! The board want Chavez to reach the knockout stage, however before they can even enter the group stage they must first play a 2-leg qualifying round against French giants Paris Saint-Germain. This will be an extremely difficult challenge for Chavez very early in the season, but let's not forget that he has managed to knock out Arsenal and Liverpool from cup competitions in the past.

Funding
Chavez has big plans for this season, but unfortunately for him The Dons Trust was only able to finance a $375,000 transfer budget and a $1,800 wage budget. This may very well halt Chavez's transfer plans and possibly the youth academy as well.

This is not good. I was expecting one of my 15 year old academy players to turn 16 at the beginning of this season, but he's still 15. He was going to be a starter right off the bat but I can't promote him yet. Really hope he turns 16 by next month and not mid-season. So far nothing has gone as planned and the season hasn't even started yet...

Ouch. The board gave you NOTHING. Did you do the wages trick? That's just ridiculous. Combined with playing PSG in the qualifying round as well as the youth fiasco. That's not good. Maybe you will get money for that qualifier for the Europa league that could go some ways. Not sure on that one though. Man, I'd say maybe it was time to consider a financial takeover, but then that kind of compromises the whole supporter owned factor you have.

Damn, always hate losing the first cup games and REALLY hate losing to Arsenal. :P Shame you couldn't beat Everton, though.

Some good signings over there, Schar is top notch and to get him for free is excellent. Sam is quite excellent too, but I don't really rate him very much, but that's just my experience. Gatt seems to be your golazo king, he was a target of mine but proved to be out of my budget.

Agreed, Arsenal have become a real rival for me in the last few seasons not to mention they are a London team as well.

As far as the signings, I can't wait to have Schar into the club next season and thanks for the input on Sam. He does have the statistics that would make me think that he should fit well into my current system, but if he doesn't and we get rid of him the nice part will be that we will make a nice profit from that business since we brought him in on a free.

Bogdan Mitrea (57ovr) --> Morecambe FC ($100k)
The Romanian centre back was signed from the Free Agents list last season but never seemed up to par with the rest of the squad. Best tackling from the whole team, best marking skills from the whole team, but severely lacked everything else. League 2 football should do him well.

Harry Cooksley (54ovr) --> Bohemian FC ($110k)
The young CAM had an outstanding loan spell at Chesterfield during Chavez's first season at the club, but once he returned from loan he no longer showed any development despite receiving a fair amount of play time last season.

Danny Kedwell (61ovr) --> Inverness CT (200k)
A lot of fans were very sad to see this player go, but it is not a surprise seeing as the player is going on 32 years old and the Wimbledon budget is very limited. The player himself appeared sad after the move: "I really enjoyed my 2nd spell with Wimbledon and I will definitely miss it, however I understand sometimes you have to do what you have to do so no hard feelings towards Chavez. Once we sat down and spoke about me possibly being transferred I made one thing clear, that I would not sign with any other club here in England. I want to be remembered here with the Wimbledon colors, which is why I chose to go to Scotland. I really appreciate the fact that Chavez heard me out and kept his word."

Arrivals:
Sam Hird (61ovr) <-- Chesterfield ($170k)
Wimbledon haven't had a natural CDM since the departure of Sammy Moore, but they finally have someone that can cover that area of the field comfortably. 27 year old Sam Hird may not be the most talented, but he's a leader on and off the field. The team will need his experience and his leadership will be vital in that area of the pitch.

James Hanson (64ovr) <-- Bradford City ($300k)
Many call this the bargain of the year. The 27 year old striker is valued at $525k, but it was believed Bradford would demand up to $750k given the fact that he is one of the top players at the club. Somehow, Chavez managed to talk them down to $300k. No other player was involved in the deal, so we are unsure how Chavez was able to persuade them. Hanson is a player that lacks speed and ball control, but is exceptionally strong, fit, and at 6'4" he is very dangerous in the air.

Preseason Analysis
The starting 11 was completely different in both matches, however both played the same way: Great in midfield, lacking in defense and offense. Ryan Tafazolli has been rock solid for Wimbledon since his signing from Mansfield in early 2014, but his form is worrying now. Tafazolli is outstanding in the middle of a line of 5, naturally commandeering the backline and taking down anything that manages to get past the outside CBs. However in a line of 4, the comparison is night and day. His positioning was off and he didn't look as confident as before. He eventually received a red card from a late slide tackle and surprisingly the team was a lot more solid without him on the field.

Judging by these two matches, it looks like Gornell deserves the starting spot. Hanson may be best in the air, but if the team is struggling to push up (like against Bremen) he lacks the technical skills to create chances for himself. Gornell is the most well balanced and created non stop danger in the match against Bastia.

Wimbledon's first official match is at Nottingham Forest in the Capital One Cup. Chavez has only 1 week to finish any last minute tweaks from the friendlies.

What are PSG doing in the Europa League.
Usually in my CM's they win the league and it's Monaco who are in the Europa League.
They won't fire you after the brilliant work you've done.
If you beat PSG there's no reason you can't win the whole thing.

Q: Enriquez has been struggling to find form recently. We have noticed that you have started to pair Juan Dominguez and Marcos Lopes together more rather than going with Enriquez in that LCM slot. Will you be trying to work Enriquez back into form or moving more towards Lopes?

A: Enriquez is meant to be there to solidify the midfield defensively, but unfortunately we have actually been struggling with him in. We have been falling behind early only to make the change to Lopes and perform better afterwards. Enriquez is an important part of this team though, and we really want to see him snap out of this run. I want to show him that we do have faith in him and we will be sticking with him.

Q: With two months left in the season you are finding yourself in and out of the European competition spots. How confident are you in the teams ability to close out the season winning points consistently and not dropping important points in winnable matches?

A: I won't lie. It has been frustrating that every time we find ourselves in a qualifying spot, we seem to drop out just a few matches later. However, we never fall too far behind in terms of points. I like where we are sitting right now, but with so little time left we need to make sure that we end on a high note.

Q: You rebuffed the advances of AC Milan attempting to bring you on this month, once again reaffirming your commitment to Deportivo. It was reported that they offered you significantly more than what you are making with Deportivo as well. Were you tempted to take the offer, and why did you ultimately turn it down?

A: Milan is a great club and it is an honor for them to have interest in me. However, I remain loyal to this club. I fully appreciate the opportunity I have been given here and I don't take that for granted. I have a great relationship with the players, the supporters, and the board of executives here. It is hard to imagine myself in a better position and I have not been tempted to explore anything else.

Jonathan arrives at Brighton for final season



Jonathan Moreira, the 31-year-old wing back signed by Brighton on a pre-contract agreement, has arrived at the club following a delayed recovery from minor injuries.

The former Inter Milan player signed a two-year contract with Indiblue's outfit in early January but has since stated that he wishes to retire at the end of this season due to a series of niggling injuries. He is not expected to feature in any of Brighton's preseason games and will instead make his debut after some weeks of conditioning at Brighton's new state-of-the-art training complex off Mash Barn Lane in Lancing.

"I'm really excited to be here finally, because I've been spending all summer recovering from the injuries I got playing for Inter last season. I should be able to remain fit throughout this season, but I don't want to put my body under more stress, so I've decided to call it a day at the end of this season," said the defender.

"We really needed a player of his calibre, and while it's a shame that he won't be with us for as long as we expected him to be, the important thing is that he's here. He'll be a great learning lesson for Hector (Bellerin) and hopefully give us that something extra to help us achieve our goals," Indiblue opined.

Jonathan will wear the number 20 shirt for the 2015-16 season.

Usually in my CM's they win the league and it's Monaco who are in the Europa League.

They won't fire you after the brilliant work you've done.

If you beat PSG there's no reason you can't win the whole thing.

Get this: both Monaco AND Saint Germain are in the qualifying of the Europa league lol. This is season 3, so perhaps some players retired? PSG were going for Mandzukic this transfer window so maybe Zlatan retired. Manchester City won the race and took Mandzukic to the Etihad.

Thanks, I'm gonna need it. I hate looking at the list of fixtures and seeing that out of all the teams playing the qualifying round I'm up against the strongest of them. Lame. We've been through enough already why couldn't they throw us a bone by now haha
