Hey, thanks for the reply. Yeah, I've kept it on the default at the begining, but if I don't seem to get any better I might try that to try to even things up a bit. My biggest difficulty is defending/closing out a lead. It seems like right after I score the AI comes down and hammers me before we get a chance to enjoy going up.

As for Benteke, I brought him in at Bayern on my first career to get used to the game, and I can say he's a monster in the air. I only played like 10 games, but by the end of that stretch I was starting him over Lewandowski (who I also brought in) because he was scoring more. Try to bring Villa down some, but he's definitely a great player.

They want that much in your first year? Because I've heard people buy him for much less in the first transfer window then sell him for as much as $95 million in 2-3 years. He is like the advanced Kurt Zouma of career mode.

it might be because of form in my case. he's one of the top-6 scorers in the league.

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

I've decided to do some thing I haven't done since fifa 10!
I want to bring a league 2 side up to the premiership the last team I did this with was shrewsbury town ( local side )

I've gone with Chesterfield mainly due to the kits
The board wants me to gain automatic promotion and reach round 32 in the domestic cup.

Playing on world class with Orion sliders with 6 min halves with no transfer window

First thing I noticed was the lack of depth so I brought the cheapest scout and sent him round England but I'll be looking for a new ST and LM in the winter transfer

Anybody have cheap players in these positions that I can look into?

just bought ryan gauld from dundee united for 2.2 mil because of an impressive scout report. the kid seems to be kind of a pace abuser, pace stats all near the 90s, but only 62 ovr in the end, couldn't expect miracles.

then i googled the kid to know what shirt number he uses and just discovered he's actually being scouted by liverpool irl (among other clubs), haha, tiny world.

the arcticle i read calls him "mini messi"

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

After taking the surprise offer from PSV, my start in Holland was mediocre to say the least. Goals were tough to come by, and I drew my first four league games. Managed a 1-0 win over Basel in the Champions League for my first. PSV was eliminated before my arrival though—other than Basel the group had Man City and Real Madrid.

Scuffled along in an awful Dutch Cup match against Twente in the first round. I was ready to hang my head in shame when they went up 1-0 early in the second period of extra time, but then a surprise two goal surge in the final two minutes lead to a sunning victory. I was damn shocked that's for sure.

After this the goals started coming. Right now the club is in a habit of giving up the first (sometimes second) goal before surging in the second half. There were a couple of dominant 4-0/3-0 victories sprinkled in there too.

In the second round of the Dutch Cup I went down 2-0 to NEC in the first half before running them out of the building after the hour mark to win 4-2. It was a tremendous final half hour for Narsingh and Wijnaldum. Those two just ran NEC ragged, and each had two goals in the final thirty. NEC's backline seemed so gassed and defeated in the final ten minutes they offered little resistance against those two prancing right around them. May be the first time on legendary I've ever seen a huge pace advantage in my favor.

We're pretty much out of the league title race at this point. We're in a group of several teams three points out of second with 39 each, but Twente is sitting in first with 52. Not completely insurmountable, but unlikely. I'm gunning for the Cup though. Both Ajax and Twente are out of it heading into the third round.

Loving the team overall. Added Vestergaard for 3.5 million Euros to help with depth on the back line. He's only 21, strong as heck, and 6'6". He's been a very useful 2b guy so far. Going to be hard keeping Narsingh in the summer. I saw some pretty huge offers in the January window. I couldn't let him go yet though. He has been too essential to my attack.

I re-signed Toivonen too (no Newcastle here). Just too irreplaceable at this point. His size and skill often see him dominating Dutch league football.

Going to be interesting to see how many pieces of this underachieving squad stay long-term. There's a lot of potential money on this squad.

btw, also brought eduardo vargas and the-man/the-myth/the-idol diego tardelli, for squad rotation, because aspas and luis alberto suck.

and real madrid just offered 49.5 mil for scumbag suárez. omg, so tempting :/

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

Had to play pain in the Arsenal in the Champion's league with my Real Madrid squad. I lost 4-2 but game was closer than the score seems to indicate. It was 2-2 going into the second half. I am finally getting the hang of the timing of different passes like through balls both lobbed and ground as well as the different crosses. In the second half I could not dispossess Arsenal if my life counted on it. I had a few runs that led to scoring chances such as Luis Suarez getting unlucky on a volley off a Bale miss. A defender got in the way before the ball went into the net.

In the second half, my defense had a huge brain freeze letting Jack Wilshere basically run free into the box for a score. Then they got a penalty kick on a B.S. call. I was trying to clear the ball in the box and one of my players slid instead of clearing the ball, knocking Wilshere to the ground for a penalty. I am proud of being able to answer both goals Arsenal scored in the first half. I either need to get better on defense as far as intercepting passes or up the CPU pass error slider (currently have it at 66) because it's just not Arsenal who passes like a freakin' T-1000. It's funny because my problem had been scoring goals but I almost never had a problem defending.

I was wondering, how do the teams in real life usually do their rotations? Are they different in friendlies and cup matches as opposed to league matches? Just curious before I start up my career.

Depends on a few things, mostly friendlies are for young players and maybe new signings to get some play time. With Cups it will depend on if they have a more immportant game coming up, or if they even care about the Cup. In lower leagues the best players play Cups alot so they can get more money whereas the bigger clubs play their youngsters to get experiance and save the starters for the league and the big Cups(champions or europa).

I generally do a bit of both. In FIFA you'll often have a cup game then league game with 1 or 2 days off, in this case I put out my "B" team and rest my key players.

Yes you do, Players that don't play as much as they think they should will start to complain and you'll have to sell them. I try to rotate players in and out to fit different styles. I usually run with a 4-2-3-1 and so I try to have 3 CMs that are close in rating and they each play 2 of 3 games and stay happy. same with CBs and such. harder with wingers and strikers tho

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

Being a Villa fan I also have a career mode with Villa that I dip into occasionally. Just started the second season where I am now in the Champions League after scraping 4th place, with 76 points, whilst 5th placed Everton were on 74 points.

In the first season I bought:
                              Will Hughes - now 73
                              Kurt Zouma - now 75
                              Kasper Schmeichel - now 73
and I had Bakkali on loan.

Benteke was of course an absolute monster scoring 30 league goals, and 39 in all competitions. I won both the League and FA Cup so had an 'amazing season' (84 rated, 23 years old, and worth about 40 million, but is not for sale!)

At the start of the second season I was granted 27 million pounds to spend so I made these transfers:
I made Bakkali permanent, cost me 6 million, he is rated 77 already.
Nicolas Lopez - rated 75, signed for 5.5 million plus Tonev
Marco Verratti - rated 81! - cost me 11,855,000 (very specific price there)

                                SEASON 1
                                Team: Portsmouth
                                League: Football League 2
Difficulty: World Class w/ Gonira/Orion Sliders
                                Objective: Gain Automatic Promotion

Alright, I'm on NG now so I can start my CM in earnest. I'll start by saying that this is almost a different game compared to CG (for me at least). The new animations add fluidity which makes the game feel faster without it actually being faster. I feel like I did when I first started playing FIFA 14, which is to say, I suck, again. I'll definitely be playing on WC until I'm comfortable enough to play on Legendary.

To start I disabled the 1st transfer window to keep rosters the same, but come January I'm going to have to make some moves because Pompey needs some work. There's less promising youth than I'd like but in particular we're hurting up front. Patrick Agyemang is 32, David Conolly is 36, and both of them are slow and have poor ball control. To make matters worse, the striker I was looking to raise was injured in my first friendly so I'm stuck using those two.

I'm tired of typing so I'll just fast-forward to where I am now. I'm about 3 or 4 games into the season and I'm tied for 1st place with Bury and S****horpe (I think). I'll cover formation and lineup in another post.
