Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?
Sweet thanks who else? I'm looking for a fantastic defender that can lock down the outside but scouting is so hard in this game I never pick good ones lol. Also tips on scouting is nice. You have gamer tag for 360? If so I'll add you and mane we can help each other out while in the game lolComment

as for defenders Raphaël Guerreiro is a 66 ovr LB/LM that I'v gotten up to 78(sofifa says pot 83) is a good player, from FC Lorient.
Calum Chambers from Southampton is a 63 RB but can go up to 80 and is only 18 at the games start.
both shouldn't be overly expensive in year 1 but get more costly as you go on and you may at that point be ready for Jetro Willems or Luke Shaw at LB. I so often find myself getting one or both of those guys.
I don't use the GTN unless I play at a big team, it just does so bad a job if you have crap scouts, use sfofifa. sofifa is such a great site for CM more now than ever. The search features make it you can find the exact style of player you want. When I play as lower league I set it up as looking for a player 65-70 and pot of at least 80 for what ever position I need then I usually try to get a player I havnt used before unless I just really loved said playerComment

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?
To a certain extent I agree with you, and if you GTN was better done and more useful then I would use it more. No matter how bad a scout is, it doesn't take 30 days to figure out if a player is any good. Take Football Manager for example, even as a lower team with cheap scouts you can get a report back in a week or so. But is sofifa is "cheating" then so is coming to forums like this where you can see what other people have done and how good a certain player can be. With the GTN as a Premier League side and good scouts, I was getting 20+ players a week and about 1 was a player from another Premier league player, the rest were lower league players that were no good. It's a waste of time and money(scouts are not cheap). I really hope next year GTN is revamped, if so then I won't be using sofifa.

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?
Nonetheless, I'd call SOFIFA something like SOBORING if you're using a searchable database to find the low OVR, high POT players to stack your squad. You're not cheating anybody but yourself and SOFIFA isn't the issue. Rather, the unimaginative user is the issue.
I should also point out that you don't need SOFIFA to do this. You could simply scour the top clubs in the world, look for their young players that are priced around 1-2 million, scoop them up, and VOILA. They're virtually guaranteed to have high POT.
SOFIFA and GTN, from my well-informed perspective, ARE NOT THE PROBLEM in FIFA's Career Mode. It's the negotiation that's broken.Comment

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?
Big agree Gnemi, it is way too easy to grab up these young future stars, especially the big clubs.
On the subject of whether or not using sofifa is cheating; there are device apps for scouting that are so in-depth it is basically like a RL sofifa. Any decent scout these days has their own app for scouting and youth player progression purposes.
The alternatives to using sofifa are time consuming and dumb. I could just go to the player search, search a particular team, sort by age and then look for the words"showing great potential" or "exciting prospect", but that would take a painfully long time
Like Gnemi said, it's all in how you use it. Building an entire starting 11 of world-beater teenagers is boring to me as well. Know what's equally boring? Spending hours sifting through the awful GTN or the barebones player search trying to find a younger fullback to replace my aging starter when I can just go on sofifa and figure out which of those younger RBs would realistically leave his team and sign for mine.
Idk, my 2 centsComment

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?
Agreed. It's all in how you use sofifa. I try to limit myself, maybe 2 "future world beaters" from close to the beginning. I mostly end up with half my starting 11 being youth players. My 9 year York City run is my best example of this, I had two future stars(Max Meyer and Nicola Leali), 6 youth players and 2 guys I got on contract expiry and one big signing of a striker. I still had a team of mostly great players but I didn't use sofifa to get there. sofifa was a small part of the process, around 60% of players I signed I found in the GTN and checked sofifa(after I scouted them) to project how good they are "now." once you get deep in career mode sofifa can't help you.
I say if you have fun and get where you want to go then do what you want, it's YOUR career mode. I won in my 9th season with York, I struggled, took me 6 years to get promoted to the premier league for the start of season 7.Comment

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?
Bollocks. Also easy to say when you're running a career as lowly Liverpool since they have no cash and no talent. lol. If you want to start a career with aspirations of going from a lower league and competing among the best clubs within 5-10 years in Brian Clough fashion, you'll find the GTN either useless, tedious, or likely both. Go ahead and take a crap on the "realism" of trying something like that - after all, Clough was a legend and one-of-a-kind, but it's a video game and I'll do as I please! <3
most people just want to get a league 2 lolbad squad, turn them into a powerhouse and win the champions league. if you want something like this, yeah, you need something like sofifa. but you know i'm a realism junkie and i would never expect something like this in my game. if you play with a league 2 team, the best you could be hoping for after some 10 years is maybe getting to the championship and fight there to not be relegated again. if you're lucky.
morecambe or fleetwood town won't be european champions. never.
it's just my take on the game. to each his own.Comment

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?
What I started doing right before I traded-up FIFA 14 CG for NG is using the GTN and sofifa in tandem. I would send out my scouts and wait until they came back with their first report on a player. If I was satisfied I would continue. If I was skeptical I would use sofifa.Last edited by NightmareBooster; 11-22-2013, 09:13 AM.XBL GT: The Kingpin187Comment

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?
it all comes down to the game difficulty and how many cheap resources like sofifa you allow yourself to get. i wouldn't play with barcelona, real madrid or bayern, but liverpool is anything but a sure win in england. you have at least four or five teams as strong as them fighting for the league.
if you prefer to get a lowly team to live their everyday struggles, i'd have no problem with that (i did this myself sometimes). but if you get a league 2 team to win all the 4 divisions, imo you're cheating yourself even harder.
i won't argue about this anymore. as i said each one has his take on the game. this is mine, there's no right or wrong.Comment

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?
this is where my take on sports games is different than most other people around here. do i like to win titles, compete for europe? yes, i do. so what i do is take a first class squad that is actually able to do it in a realistic scenario, and go for it.

Stranger things have happened. Southampton just got promoted and they are only about 3 players shy of challenging for the title.
Just sayin, it's not THAT unrealisticComment
