Not one of our better months. We needed to pick up a few more points in the league. It's still early in the season and too soon to point anyone out as title contenders, but we want to be near the top. Thankfully, we are where we are expected to be, but improvement will have to take place next month.

November was much kinder to us. We did the double over Wolfsburg in Europe and lost just the one game to Tottenham in the league, so we can't complain too much, especially since we lead the league by a healthy margin of three points.

We picked up some important results through December. Topping our Champions League group at the first time of asking feels very special, and we look forward to what this competition offers us. The boys and I are looking forward to playing one of the best teams in Europe.

News from the Amex comes thick and fast
With the January transfer window set to open in less than 24 hours, word on the street is that Brighton & Hove Albion are set to make some huge decisions on key players, and it may have a significant impact on the course of their season.
Since the East Sussex club qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League, where they will play Borussia Dortmund in a two-legged round of 16 tie, they have been on a high. Unfortunately, they have seen their form in the league stutter at vital times. A crucial loss to Tottenham in the league allowed Manchester City to assume to driver's seat, and with their FA Cup campaign set to begin with a trip to Chesterfield later this week, Brighton need their squad to pull in the same direction now more than ever.
The experiment of Will Buckley as a lone striker proved successful in the short-term, but it was ultimately called off because it was causing the team to play as less of a unit. Indiblue, who emphasises team ethic and cohesion above all else, was happy that Buckley was scoring but did not wish it to continue at the cost of other players' form. Without doubt, the English forward will continue to play in a highly attacking role – just not as a lone striker.
Earlier this year, we speculated that a move for Nicklas Bendtner to return to Brighton would take place. That now seems to be off, with Indiblue refusing to rule out Nabil Ghilas having an excellent second half of the season. The sensible manager is known for giving talent, especially forwards, adequate time to acclimatise to the Premier League.
Certain to leave is Pedro Azogue. The 22-year-old from Bolivia joined Brighton when they were still in the Championship. He has since found it difficult to combine his astonishing development with a regular place in the side, and Indiblue has given the player his blessing to seek out a new club. Price will not be an issue, as the club is likely to accept any reasonable offer given that Azogue joined as a free agent.
The next likely departure comes as a shock, as club captain Liam Bridcutt has allegedly been told that he will not be on Brighton's books come February 1. Since rejecting a generous contract extension that would have doubled his pay, Bridcutt has gone from club hero to moping sulker, bringing down the morale of his team with his negative attitude. In just a few short months, the gifted midfielder has gone from a beacon of inspiration to a source of draining negativity. Not helping the situation, the player's agent has spoken to the media several times on how his client would like to move on from Brighton, naming specific clubs including Arsenal as potential destinations.
Other candidates for departure, though far less likely to leave, are Memphis Depay and Charles Aranguiz. Both are excellent players who are finding it tough to play regularly in Indiblue's successful new 4-4-2 diamond setup, and both have expressed their desire to be on the pitch in the starting eleven with some consistency. Indiblue, not a huge fan of sweeping changes to his first team in the winter, will have a balancing act to handle in January. Does he make the changes and risk losing the chemistry that has served Brighton so well, or does he carry on with this team until the summer but risk a loss of form due to poor morale?
Whatever his choice, this reporter feels that Bridcutt's departure will be certain either way. Indiblue is not known to be tolerant of players who threaten the harmony of the dressing room, and it will be interesting to see who Indiblue chooses as his replacement, both positionally and as the team's leader on the pitch. While Brighton certainly have the funds to purchase an adequate replacement, the likely scenario is that Indiblue will replace from within and, if necessary, acquire a player of more considerable talent and influence later this year in the summer.
