Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

Missed out on a Champions League spot by 1 point in my Tottenham CM... I drew 2 of my last 3 matches, 1-1 to West Ham and 0-0 to Stoke. A win in either one of those would have gotten me in. Ugh, another season in the Europa League.

I had quite a bit of money to play in the offseason partly because I sold Lewis Holtby, even after buying David Alaba from Bayern in January, so I went and bought Benzema (Real had bought Lewandowski in the January window) and Miralem Pjanic from Roma.

Might have overpaid a bit for Pjanic, but he's a solid midfielder and I wanted to have depth this year.

Switched to a modified 4-4-2 now with Benzema on the squad, it's more of a 4-1-3-2.

    Lineup to open season #2:

    --------------Lloris---------------

    Walker--Vertonghen--Kaboul--Alaba

    ------------Dembele--------------

    Lamela------Eriksen---------Sigurdsson

    -------Benzema-----Soldado-------

Notable bench players: Pjanic, Sandro, Townsend, Lennon, Defoe, Adebayor, Naughton, Rose.

Looking to score more this season, hence buying Benzema and a more aggressive formation.

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

      Hi guys,
I've been playing fifa for years and I've always been a career mode kinda guy. I've tried pretty much everything in terms of challenges, from getting Fleetwood town promotion to the premier league all the way up to Barcelona domination.
I've hit a wall. I no longer know who to play as in my career mode. I just wanted to ask any of you for advice. What's been your favourite ever career mode/who do you recommend?

      Cheers

            Team: Orlando City SC
            Rating 2.5 Stars
            League: Argentine Primera
Objectives: Owners want me to avoid a bottom finish. I want to win a trophy & qualify for Copa Latino Americana
Difficulty: 30 Min Games, Gonira's Sliders, Legendary, Full Manual, No simming games
            Record: 2-2-1

            Recent Form
            HOME/AWAY
            Independiente 1 - 1 Orlando City
            Orlando City 1 - 1 Arsenal
            Belgrano 1 - 3 Orlando City
            Orlando City 2 - 0 Atletico Rafaela
            Boca Juniors 2 - 1 Orlando City

So we achieved our Goal of 8 points in our first 5 matches that features 3 road games & a road match up with one of the toughest teams in the league, Boca Juniors.... We dropped 5 points by conceding late goals in 3 games.

            Backdrop From First Update
Ok, so I was getting bored in the MLS due to the lack of international club competitions, and things to qualify for. Then I started hearing about a South American cup in FIFA. Its features 16 teams, 4 from Brazil & Argentina, 3 from Columbia & Chile, 2 from Mexico. So I decided to replace the worst teams in those leagues with MLS Clubs. I wanted to do it in a way that made sense.
For instance, Mexico, is in my opinion the most balanced league in south America, Brazil may have tougher top teams, but top to bottom, Mexico is strong. So with only 2 slots for the Copa Latino Americana I decided to put the two teams who I thought might have the best teams to actually make the tournament, LA Galaxy & Seattle Sounders.

Argentina Primera: without weakening the league I added myself Orlando City, Sporting KC, Toronto FC

Brazil: Is a strong league so I wanted to add some MLS teams who I thought could compete in Brazil, hopefully anyways lol... NY Red Bulls, Real Salt Lake, Montreal Impact, Portland.... Currently 15g in Portand, Montreal bottom two. RSL & NY bottom half. smh

Chile: this is the weakest league featured in the tournament so I wanted to put most of the MLS teams in this league to add more depth... 17g in New England sit 7th, with Vancouver, Dallas, DC United, Chivas all bottom half & Philadelphia dead last.

Columbia: has some solid teams but lacks depth so I added quite a few teams. San Jose, Colorado, Columbus, and Houston who all sit bottom table. Chicago currently is 8th.

Mexico: Looks like I was right, LA Galaxy & Seattle are doing better then most of the other teams in weaker leagues, only 4games in they sit 7th & 8th.

I will start a new career, I just messed up simulating too much , most of players are too old and I bought the wrong players.
Looking for a new start in Genoa, they don't have the best roster but has a good budget, looks good for a start .

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

Update on Nottingham Forest, season 3

Carrying on with my good early season results, I beat FC Kobenhavn in the Euro League 3-0, following it up with a 1-0 over AEK Athens and a 1-1 draw to Napoli. Currently sitting second in my group with 7 points, level with Napoli but behind on goals scored.

In the league, I beat Norwich at home 1-0 and drew 1-1 with Chelsea. Right in between those, Chelsea knocked me out of the Capital One Cup with a 3-1 win at The Bridge. Three wins in a row came next: Aston Villa away (3-1), Southampton at home (4-1), and Cardiff away (1-0). A home win against Newcastle would have sent me top of the table and five points clear of the Magpies, but I only manage a 1-1 draw, that too courtesy a piece of absolute magic from Mackay-Steven seconds before time.

Traore has been very good in drawing defenders away and making space, but he can't seem to score much from open play. Of his six goals in 14 games, three are converted penalties and one is from a corner. I know it's just a matter of time, though, so I'm not too worried. In the meanwhile, I'm testing out different work rates for him. But for sure, he and Oscar (just two goals in 12 games) have underwhelmed thus far.

I've experimented with several formations like 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, 4-4-1-1, 4-2-2-2, 4-5-1, 4-1-2-1-2, and 4-3-1-2. But my 3-4-3 is the most successful; I've been using it since the second half against Southampton. My central CB is a powerful ball winner, my outside CBs are actually full-backs, my defensive midfielder plays like a deep-lying playmaker, my RCM is a box-to-box machine, my LCM helps keep everything ticking, and my CAM is a trequartista linking midfield and attack. Both wingers are pacey and good at crossing, with a target man/poacher hybrid playing front and centre.

                Custom 3-4-3

                Forster

                Clyne -- Martinez -- Cresswell

                Chalobah

                Lansbury -- Mutch

                Oscar

                Steven -- Traore -- Biabiany

If this works out, great. But it means I've got too many defenders and not enough wingers. Anyone have experience with playing full-backs far up the pitch as LW/RW? Do they fall too deep, or is their positioning good enough? It seems a shame to let go of talent like Clyne and Cresswell, but I'd rather have the best fits for my system.

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

Just finished the January transfer window so here's the update

The season has gone pretty well currently sitting in 6th after losses against juventus and ac milan and few draws in the early games the only issue with the team is the lack of depth in some positions and the ageing players moaning for play time

Few weeks before January milito asked for a transfer and after the 5 message moaning he had to go I have him play time and tbf he didn't play well

                  Depart
                  Pereira-caligeri 1,900,000
                  Handancovic- juventus- 22,500,000
                  Chivu- west brom - 1,000,000
                  Milito- hamburg - 2,600,000

                  Arrive
                  Pantilimon man city -1,600,000
                  Krul- Newcastle -11,000,000
                  Benzia- Lyon- loan
                  Dybala - palermo- 4,000,000
                  Sam -bayer04- 6,400,000
                  Afellay - Barcelona - 4,000,000
                  Dos santos- Barcelona -1,800,000
                  Diouf-Hanover 96- pre contract

The main target was Dybala as I needed a second CF but Palermo wasn't gonna let him go cheap, they first asked for 4.8 mil so I tried a straight swap for militia but they didn't want him seems no one wanted him but I eventually knocked them down to 4 mil but I'm not complaining he breaks defence lines said they ain't even there

Then hamburg came in for milito and sold him for his value so I needed a replacement plus I needed to get another one aswel as Palacio was losing stats so diouf was my first option but gave Palacio a chance to the end of the season and brought benzia as cover

Then juventus and ac milan both come in with 11.5 mil bids I had no plans in replacing him so I thought bump the offer up 10 mil an they will back off juventus accepted so now I was on the hunt for a keeper I enquired for a few and settled on krul and with the back up keeper ageing I brought in pantmilmon as cover a future keeper

The top matches were two 5-0 away victories against Napoli and geona
Got to the quarter final in the cup and was knocked out 1-0 to juventus
Also become the manager of Sweden with a draw against Brazil and win against Argentina

Sorry if there's another posting not sure if it uploaded or not

Next update end of the season

I hear that, I was in the same place. I started playing as a German league 2 team(FC Koln) and its rough. First year was easy and I got promotion but with having so little time(1 season) my team isnt ready to compete so this year is hard and fun just trying to stay in the top league.

                    Maybe try that

I made the step up from professional to world class and noticed instantly that on prof the CPU just hold the ball and tend to get really boring games of 0-0/1-0/1-1/2-1 but on world class they really come at you with the ball giving you more of an opportunity to regain possession and while it may end up with 0-0/1-0/1-1/2-1 score lines like prof it will be a much more interesting game

                        Crystal Palace Season 1
I decided to start up a career with Palace on World Class, so losing most games by a goal is relatively realistic with the odd draw here and there. But I thought I'd update as I've just come out of deadline day of my first transfer window. I chose to use a financial takeover because I wanted to go for a top 10 finish immediately. Some are rough prices as I can't remember off of the top of my head, here was my first window:

                        Transfers In:
                        Morata - Real Madrid = 10million (estimate)
                        Dos Santos - Barcelona = 2million
                        Sergi Roberto - Barcelona = 3.5million (estimate)
                        Christian Tello - Barcelona = 7.5million
                        Shaw - Southhampton = 4.3million (estimate)
Cancelo - SL Benfica = Season loan
                        Marc Bartra - Barcelona = 4.5million (estimate)
                        Julio Cesar - QPR = 5million

                        Transfers Out
Glenn Murray to West Brom = 975k
Dwight Gayle to Burnley = Loan

I had a pretty busy window and now my squad is looking like this:

                        Starting XI:
                        GK: Cesar
                        RB: Ward
                        CB: Mariappa
                        CB: Bartra
                        LB: Shaw
                        CDM: Sergi Roberto
                        CDM: Dos Santos
                        LM: Christian Tello
                        RM: Kebe
                        CAM: Williams
                        ST: Morata

                        Subs:
                        Jerome ST
                        Bolasie LW
                        Puncheon RM
                        Parr LB
                        Speroni GK
                        Campana CM
                        Bannan CM
+ more players in reserves for rotation.

So far with that team I'm yet to record a win but drawing 1-1 with Man United to then go and lose 2-0 to Sunderland shows just what World Class can do. With my league objective being to avoid relegation I have plenty of time to play around with my squad, although I have to say that Morata feels too slow and sluggish on the ball, and I often find myself subbing him off for Jerome who is looking to be my super sub this season, might make his loan move permanent, I'm going to swap Morata for Mauro Icardi from Inter in January. If anyone has any relatively cheap ST's I could buy that would do the job as a solo ST let me know, I have £3million + Morata to offer. Thanks for reading my first update

Update on Nottingham Forest, season 3

Life is good. I dispatched Fulham in an exciting 3-2 win before a narrow 1-0 over Fulham, and tore Everton a new one at Goodison with a 3-1 in which I had 65% possession and 91% passing!

Hull City ruined my good run with a 1-1 draw, but I'm still undefeated in the league after 14 games (nine wins, five draws). This puts me firmly in third with 32 points: six ahead of QPR in fourth, two behind Chelsea in second, and four behind United at the top. It's safe to say Forest has arrived.

Meanwhile in Europe, I drew Kobenhavn in the return leg in Denmark. Napoli's 5-0 demolition of AEK means they go top with 10 points, while I'm second with eight. AEK has three points, and Kobenhavn have one. I just need to avoid loss in my next game to secure progression to the R32, if my calculations are right.

Traore is getting there. After six goalless games, he was rather insecure. But two thundering goals against Everton, one with his head off a cross and the other a piece of magic after a sweet dribble, have got him feeling good again.

Another big reason for my turn in fortunes is my tweaked 3-4-3. I've moved from three central mids and a CAM to a flat four, with a RM and LM flanking two CMs. The key is that my wide midfielders are actually full-backs with stamina, pace, crossing and custom H/H work rates.

Right now, I'm testing the flat four versus the wide diamond, and I'm really liking the diamond. Having a CAM to link up with Traore makes it so much easier for him to get into goalscoring positions. He's had 22 shots in the last three games, with 17 on target.

This, of course, means that my squad is all wonky. As it stands, I hope to get a massive offer for Oscar come January. I can only field one offensive-minded CM in my midfield four, and Mutch is better than Oscar as both CAM and CM.

Selling the Brazilian for about £40-50 million would give me enough funds to buy the players I need. I've got a few ideas, but suggestions are welcome for:

                            - a LB/RB with stamina, pace, crossing, and 4/5* weak foot (De Sciglio, Montoya)

                            - a RW/LW/ST with pace, dribbling, control, shooting (finishing, long shots), and 4/5* weak foot (Willian, El Shaarawy, Cerci)

                            - a tall, strong, right-footed CB with 70+ sprint speed/acceleration (Smalling, Toprak)

                            Custom 3-4-3

                            GK
                            RCB: L/H
                            CB: L/H
                            LCB: L/H
                            CDM: M/H
RM: H/H, track back on defense
LM: H/H, track back on defense
CAM: H/M, track back on defense
RW: H/L, cut in on attack
                            ST: H/L
LW: H/L, cut in on attack

                            OR

                            GK
                            RCB: L/H
                            CB: L/H
                            LCB: L/H
RM: H/H, track back on defense
RCM: M/H, track back on defense
LCM: H/M, track back on defense
LM: H/H, track back on defense
RW: H/L, cut in on attack
                            ST: H/L
LW: H/L, cut in on attack

For the LB/RB maybe get Alaba or Danilo?
For the LW/RW/ST I don't know your budget so maybe get Hazard, Hulk or Christian Tello?
For the CB there's Dragovic, Kompany possibly? Sakho
And go with the second set of work rates like above hope I helped in some way

Stupidly enough I've never thought of that. I always stick to 4/5/6 minute halves to avoid boredom, might push it to 7/8 minutes. Any higher and I'd find it a chore to play. I don't see how some of you can play 15 minute halves haha
