This career mode is very interesting for me too playing with different players and against different teams. I'm now going to learn more Spanish players than before when it would usually be British and Irish players along with the well known ones.

Glen Mabil rushes to the right, trying to take the ball from Stevie May but makes an absolute hash of it as he dives to the side and May just has to put it over the legs of the keeper and into the back of the net. Awful goalkeeping!

EXE – Sercombe (50’)

Cowan-Hall takes a corner and the clearance falls straight back to him. He tries to cut the ball back to Saiz Alonso but it is intercepted. The defender stupidly turns into Alonso who can easily dispossess him. He squares the ball to Liam Sercombe on the edge of the box and all he has to do is turn to beat the defender and place the ball into the bottom right corner.

SHE – May (62’)

Jacques Maghoma skips past the out-of-position Ryan Inniss on the right and delivers the ball to the back post where Stevie May climbs over Ruano to head past Mabil and into the top right corner to give Sheffield a two-one lead.

EXE – Cowan-Hall (87’)

Sheffield Wednesday defender, Ed Sanders, tries to clear the ball but Inters Konate slides in and tackles him fairly. Konate gets the ball on the left and drifts into the penalty area where he delivers a low ball across the ground to the back post where Paris Cowan-Hall slots it into the back of the empty net.

EXE – Cowan-Hall (88’)

Inters Konate sprints dangerously at the defence and he muscles his way past one before a challenge makes the ball go out of play. Tamás sprints up to the ball and takes the throw-in quickly for Konate on the left wing who controls it, turns to get past the defender and then delivers a tantalising floated ball into the box for Cowan-Hall who opens up his body to volley the ball past the sprawling keeper.

Exeter City were very lucky to take the three points today...

Lee Tomlin lofts the ball over the defence to Kike who chests the ball down before trying to chip the keeper. Mabil reads it and does not go down but the ball just goes past him because he doesn’t even outstretch him arms.

EXE – Sercombe (14’)

This man is on fire at the moment! Benjamin Feudjou tracks back excellently to dispossess Middlesbrough midfielder, Nsue. Bell collects the ball from the tackle and drills it up field for Sercombe to take a touch in the midfield. He gives the ball to Feudjou who delays the play for a second before floating the ball over the defence and onto the chest of Liam Sercombe. He controls it and lets it bounce for him to then get underneath the ball and to sweetly chip the keeper from a slightly tighter angle.

EXE – Poyet (39’)

Diego Poyet gets a cracker of a goal for his first for the club. Adam Clayton’s pass is intercepted by Diego Poyet on the half-way line. Poyet then sprints up the pitch and all the way into the box where he skips past a challenge before opening his body up to be able to place the ball far into the bottom right corner which looked impossible due to the good position the goalkeeper had been in.

MID – Kike (40’)

Middlesbrough equalise after Nsue is allowed to waltz through the defence and square the ball to Kike who’s around seven yards out and all he has to do is place it into the bottom left corner.

MID – Kike (52’)

Kike gets his hat-trick from a corner into the box. Glen Mabil rushes from his line and jumps up into the air to catch the ball. He fumbles it and it allows Kike to tap it across the line.

EXE – Konate (58’)

There really have been some world class goals in this game! Inters Konate comes on for Feudjou in the fifty-fifth minute and his first few touches are to flick the ball past the last defender and attack the box. One the very edge of the area, Konate snaps a shot that fools the keeper with its earliness and with its speed and it beats the keeper at his near post.

MID – Kike (60’)

Exeter’s defence is ripped to shreds as Amari’i Bell and Jordan Moore-Taylor slip simultaneously, allowing Kike to jog into the box and pummel the ball into left corner.

EXE – Konate (PEN) (90’+ 1’)

Pressure is piled on Middlesbrough as a collision between two players allows the ball to trickle into the box. López Ruano and Andy Halliday race to get to the ball first. Ruano gets there first and he manages to get a touch on the ball to take it away from Andy Halliday who foolishly slides in and all he does is get the man. Halliday gets a yellow as Konate places the ball on the spot. He places the ball into the top right corner and Exeter have a late equaliser.

Liam Sercombe slots the ball in behind the defence for Benjamin Feudjou. He cuts it back to Tim Payne who sprints into the box and smashes it with his weaker foot into the top right corner. It’s nice to see Tim back after recovering from his broken rib.

EXE – Feudjou (26’)

Cowan-Hall bursts down the right and then cuts back and squares the ball to Ruano. He crosses it first time with his left foot and the ball loops into the box. Watford keeper, Dušan Kuciak , rushes out to punch the ball away but he mistimed his run and gets no contact at all. This allows Feudjou to easily nod into the open goal.

WAT – Ighalo (78’)

Ighalo gives the ball to Craig Cathcart who then chips the ball over the defence and Odion Ighalo watches it and volleys it past Mabil and into the far corner.

The game’s been very balanced and each team has a reason to at least have two goals already but Exeter strike first with the in-form Liam Sercombe. Konate bursts from the half-way line and all the way into the box where he taps the ball into the feet of Sercombe who measures it before slotting the ball into the keeper’s near post. Very good goal by two of Exeter’s most treasured players.

EXE – Konate (53’)

Kwabena Appiah sprints down the right before delivering a perfect ball into the box and onto the head of Inters Konate who simply jumps high and heads the ball into the corner.

EXE – Konate (PEN) (58’)

Joseph Gomez steals the ball high up the pitch and he manages to cross the ball into the middle where Konate takes a bad first touch and the ball drops behind him. Allassani charges in and takes a great touch before shooting. Elliot Hewitt throws himself in the way of the ball but gets a massive touch on the ball with his arm. The ball rises into the air and Hewitt recovers quickly. Allassani tries to volley the ball but the defender jumps up in the air with a very high foot that scrapes across Allassani’s collar bone. The referee gives a penalty and amazingly, Hewitt only gets a yellow. Inters Konate finishes the penalty well into the top left corner where no keeper can reach! Exeter City are now three-nil up.

The rest of the match was not very eventful. We had a few pops at goal that were very close but nothing of note. Ipswich didn’t have a shot on target

Appiah has been an amazing asset to the team. He’s been really consistent and scored a massive 27 goals to get him the golden boot. Those forfeited games really did hit me hard. I don't know why but I was distraught to see my comfortable lead deplete. I really need to get a little more depth in my squad! I was worried that I would be rattled due to the losses but my latest update shows that it wasn't the case.

Yeah, I really need to get a bigger squad! I was disapointed in the Arsenal game because we had soooo many chances and all they had were like two and they had one less man than me. Hopefully next season, i will get into the finals!

Yeah, the clean sheets are the changes that i briefly outlined before the QPR game and my new formation has really gotten me out of some sticky situations whilst trying to defend.

Hoskins 7' pen, Hoban 9', Gnanduillet 71'

On paper the two teams looked well matched and it was hard to predict which side was going to win. That wasn't the case when the game began. Oxford looked like the better team from the first minute and they got the lead only seven minutes into the game when Will Hoskins converted a penalty. Just two minutes later Patrick Hoban stole the ball from Northampton's defender and he finished the attack with a good shot. In the next sixty minutes Oxford failed to get a goal but in the 71st minute happened something very unexpected. Armand Gnanduillet was played through one-on-one against the keeper. The Ivorian then took the ball past the goalie and then he did it. Gnanduillet turned around and he tapped the ball into the net with his backheel! Oxford's next opponent will be Bolton from the Championship.

Both of the teams were in the top three of the league, Southend in first and Oxford in third. A win for Oxford would've put them in first. Sadly it wasn't meant to be and the game ended in a draw. Things looked great when Carl Winchester put a low shot into the bottom left corner. The lead lasted for fifty minutes but then Pigott was left unmarked in the box and he headed the ball into the goal.

Hoban 38'

Cabee's Exeter were fifth in the table and this game was very important for both teams. At the end the game wasn't that exciting and Patrick Hoban's tap in from a low cross was enough to secure the three points for Oxford.

Round 3
Oxford United 3 - 0 Bolton Wanderers
Hoskins 21', Gnanduillet 78', 88'

Bolton were the clear favourites but they did not live up to the expectations at all. Oxford were a lot better in every aspect and they just out-classed the team from the Championship. They got the lead twenty minutes into the game when Will Hoskins got past a defender and he curled the ball into the bottom right corner. In the last 25 minutes Armand Gnanduillet got a brace from two counter attacks. Oxford will face Crystal Palace in the next round.

Oxford United 4 - 0 AFC Wimbledon
Hoskins 8', 38', Gnanduillet 75', Winchester 90'

Oxford were up against a strong Wimbledon side who had just sacked their successful manager Chavez (sorry, Chico :P) and that showed out on the pitch. The home team dominated the game and Wimbledon had just one shot in the game. Will Hoskins continued to play well and he netted two goals in forty minutes. At the end of the second half Armand Gnanduillet scored one himself and Carl Winchester finished the final goal in stoppage time. This victory made Oxford first in the league!

@Simp: Nice to see Hertha is back! May they return to being a powerhouse of European and German football! The team itself is decent, can be improved but still good enough to challenge for European spots. It had to end sometime though but at least you came out on the winning side and Kalou continued his form! You are also close to getting up to 4th so things are looking good.

@Cruzerr: That was a good end to the season! With some good 2-0 and 1-0 wins. Unlucky losing out to Schalke by the 1 goal and then really sucks that you lost 2nd spot because of the game crashing.

3rd is still good in your first year however and season 2 should be great fun! Maxim was great at CAM for you this season and long may his form continue and he will be a big player for the duration of your CM.

@Sportsfreak: Good to see Liverpool being used and you had a good start. Balotelli smashing in 4 against his former club must have been fun! How much did you sign Payet for? Nice looking Academy also.

@Chico: Tough 0-0 to start the month but then Guillermo fired you to victory against Malaga. That was also a nail biting last game of the season with Torres snatching the winner in the last few minutes. Congrats on finishing 5th and at least now you have another shot at the Europa. That Liga Adelante table is very strange and confusing alright!

@Jagger: Goals galore! Some tough loses to Ipswich and Millwall and then that draw to Rotherham in your first game must have been frustrating. You did have some big wins against Fulham and Wolves so an up and down month!

I got Payet for 5 million after I enquired and they only wanted 5 for him and the only reason I signed him was because my best Cam went down for 5 months with a broken Tibia

Lee Tomlin lofts the ball over the defence to Kike who chests the ball down before trying to chip the keeper. Mabil reads it and does not go down but the ball just goes past him because he doesn’t even outstretch him arms.

EXE – Sercombe (14’)

This man is on fire at the moment! Benjamin Feudjou tracks back excellently to dispossess Middlesbrough midfielder, Nsue. Bell collects the ball from the tackle and drills it up field for Sercombe to take a touch in the midfield. He gives the ball to Feudjou who delays the play for a second before floating the ball over the defence and onto the chest of Liam Sercombe. He controls it and lets it bounce for him to then get underneath the ball and to sweetly chip the keeper from a slightly tighter angle.

EXE – Poyet (39’)

Diego Poyet gets a cracker of a goal for his first for the club. Adam Clayton’s pass is intercepted by Diego Poyet on the half-way line. Poyet then sprints up the pitch and all the way into the box where he skips past a challenge before opening his body up to be able to place the ball far into the bottom right corner which looked impossible due to the good position the goalkeeper had been in.

MID – Kike (40’)

Middlesbrough equalise after Nsue is allowed to waltz through the defence and square the ball to Kike who’s around seven yards out and all he has to do is place it into the bottom left corner.

MID – Kike (52’)

Kike gets his hat-trick from a corner into the box. Glen Mabil rushes from his line and jumps up into the air to catch the ball. He fumbles it and it allows Kike to tap it across the line.

EXE – Konate (58’)

There really have been some world class goals in this game! Inters Konate comes on for Feudjou in the fifty-fifth minute and his first few touches are to flick the ball past the last defender and attack the box. One the very edge of the area, Konate snaps a shot that fools the keeper with its earliness and with its speed and it beats the keeper at his near post.

MID – Kike (60’)

Exeter’s defence is ripped to shreds as Amari’i Bell and Jordan Moore-Taylor slip simultaneously, allowing Kike to jog into the box and pummel the ball into left corner.

EXE – Konate (PEN) (90’+ 1’)

Pressure is piled on Middlesbrough as a collision between two players allows the ball to trickle into the box. López Ruano and Andy Halliday race to get to the ball first. Ruano gets there first and he manages to get a touch on the ball to take it away from Andy Halliday who foolishly slides in and all he does is get the man. Halliday gets a yellow as Konate places the ball on the spot. He places the ball into the top right corner and Exeter have a late equaliser.

Liam Sercombe slots the ball in behind the defence for Benjamin Feudjou. He cuts it back to Tim Payne who sprints into the box and smashes it with his weaker foot into the top right corner. It’s nice to see Tim back after recovering from his broken rib.

EXE – Feudjou (26’)

Cowan-Hall bursts down the right and then cuts back and squares the ball to Ruano. He crosses it first time with his left foot and the ball loops into the box. Watford keeper, Dušan Kuciak , rushes out to punch the ball away but he mistimed his run and gets no contact at all. This allows Feudjou to easily nod into the open goal.

WAT – Ighalo (78’)

Ighalo gives the ball to Craig Cathcart who then chips the ball over the defence and Odion Ighalo watches it and volleys it past Mabil and into the far corner.

The game’s been very balanced and each team has a reason to at least have two goals already but Exeter strike first with the in-form Liam Sercombe. Konate bursts from the half-way line and all the way into the box where he taps the ball into the feet of Sercombe who measures it before slotting the ball into the keeper’s near post. Very good goal by two of Exeter’s most treasured players.

EXE – Konate (53’)

Kwabena Appiah sprints down the right before delivering a perfect ball into the box and onto the head of Inters Konate who simply jumps high and heads the ball into the corner.

EXE – Konate (PEN) (58’)

Joseph Gomez steals the ball high up the pitch and he manages to cross the ball into the middle where Konate takes a bad first touch and the ball drops behind him. Allassani charges in and takes a great touch before shooting. Elliot Hewitt throws himself in the way of the ball but gets a massive touch on the ball with his arm. The ball rises into the air and Hewitt recovers quickly. Allassani tries to volley the ball but the defender jumps up in the air with a very high foot that scrapes across Allassani’s collar bone. The referee gives a penalty and amazingly, Hewitt only gets a yellow. Inters Konate finishes the penalty well into the top left corner where no keeper can reach! Exeter City are now three-nil up.

The rest of the match was not very eventful. We had a few pops at goal that were very close but nothing of note. Ipswich didn’t have a shot on target

Appiah has been an amazing asset to the team. He’s been really consistent and scored a massive 27 goals to get him the golden boot. In all competitions, he’s made fifty appearances, scored thirty-three goals and provided ten assists. He’s going to be one of our main men in the Premier League and I hope he performs half as well as he did this season!

On paper the two teams looked well matched and it was hard to predict which side was going to win. That wasn't the case when the game began. Oxford looked like the better team from the first minute and they got the lead only seven minutes into the game when Will Hoskins converted a penalty. Just two minutes later Patrick Hoban stole the ball from Northampton's defender and he finished the attack with a good shot. In the next sixty minutes Oxford failed to get a goal but in the 71st minute happened something very unexpected. Armand Gnanduillet was played through one-on-one against the keeper. The Ivorian then took the ball past the goalie and then he did it. Gnanduillet turned around and he tapped the ball into the net with his backheel! Oxford's next opponent will be Bolton from the Championship.

Both of the teams were in the top three of the league, Southend in first and Oxford in third. A win for Oxford would've put them in first. Sadly it wasn't meant to be and the game ended in a draw. Things looked great when Carl Winchester put a low shot into the bottom left corner. The lead lasted for fifty minutes but then Pigott was left unmarked in the box and he headed the ball into the goal.

Hoban 38'

Cabee's Exeter were fifth in the table and this game was very important for both teams. At the end the game wasn't that exciting and Patrick Hoban's tap in from a low cross was enough to secure the three points for Oxford.

Oxford United 3 - 0 Bolton Wanderers
Hoskins 21', Gnanduillet 78', 88'

Bolton were the clear favourites but they did not live up to the expectations at all. Oxford were a lot better in every aspect and they just out-classed the team from the Championship. They got the lead twenty minutes into the game when Will Hoskins got past a defender and he curled the ball into the bottom right corner. In the last 25 minutes Armand Gnanduillet got a brace from two counter attacks. Oxford will face Crystal Palace in the next round.

Oxford United 4 - 0 AFC Wimbledon
Hoskins 8', 38', Gnanduillet 75', Winchester 90'

Oxford were up against a strong Wimbledon side who had just sacked their successful manager Chavez (sorry, Chico :P) and that showed out on the pitch. The home team dominated the game and Wimbledon had just one shot in the game. Will Hoskins continued to play well and he netted two goals in forty minutes. At the end of the second half Armand Gnanduillet scored one himself and Carl Winchester finished the final goal in stoppage time. This victory made Oxford first in the league!

Well, things happen and you can't have everything :P Winchester really hasn't been that impressive so far and those were his first goals if I'm not mistaken. He does have an alright potential so he could get sold for a good amount of money. Fun fact: Gnanduillet is not a starting striker for me. I prefer to use him as a supersub and I usually put him on at half time because he's more effective that way. That's something I would've put in the headlines part.

I use a 4-4-2 and there isn't really anyone who can be called THE playmaker. I try to counter attack a lot with Oxford and that works well. The assists go to my wingers' or central midfielders' (mainly Lee Evans' and Collins') name but there isn't anyone who can't be replaced if needed.

So, what went right?

A lot of things I feel went right for us. First off, I have realised that the squad itself is built pretty well, with a lot of youth talent in the mix to actually grow on. If I look at our defense, players like Rüdiger and Sakai are our future, while player like Schwaab, Niedermeier and Klein support them well. The defense was second in fewest goals let in. That is also for the defense and for our great goalkeeper, Ulreich.

Which brings me to our core players. Yes, Ulreich is obviously one of them. Without him, we could have struggled badly. Yet the best player was obviously Maxim, as he dominated the midfield and is a fantastic player. Drmic was also a big player for us, as he came in second half of the season and played well for us.

Finishing third is another great thing for us, as it means that our budget for next year will be bigger and we will get to play in Europe, meaning that we can show our power there and also get more cash to improve the squad.

What went wrong?

Well, to be completely honest, not a lot of things, yet there are a two things that I am not completely happy with.

First off, I feel that our scoring was coming for only a few players. If you take out Ibisevic, Maxim and Drmic, the scoring front gets a bit empty. While I know that those 3 are suppose to be our main scorers(well, except Vedad now), I hope that next season we can have more goals from our wingers.

Second, getting knocked out of the cup by Paderborn was certainly a low-point. If it was somebody tougher, then fine, but it was a team we should beat. Hopefully next season we can go a bit deeper in the Pokal.

Plans for Season 2?

Oh baby, here is when it gets juicy.

First off, doing as good as last season. If we finish lower than third or forth, then it is a complete bust. We should manage to battle for the top spots, yet I am not quite sure yet that we can compete against Bayern.

Second, going deeper in the Pokal. I know I already adressed that, but if we could manage to go a bit deeper, I would like to actually win somekind of silverware.

Third, improving the team. Nobody in the team is irreplaceable. I know that is harsh, but that is the truth. I am looking to bring in more depth in the striker position, full back position, and bringing in somebody in the midfield, who we can trust to carry us in the future, when Gentner gets older.

Forth, causing havoc in CL. Lets be honest, winning the thing is quite impossible, yet if we can show our strength in the group stage and show a bit of Stuttgart magic, then that would be nice.

Your right about goals being hard to come by in other parts of the field to Maxim and Drmic. The defence seemed solid though which is always the first step. It gives you a solid base to build on. In regards to your transfer targets;

1. What type of striker are you looking for? Target man, pacey, mix of both.
2. What type of CM are you looking for? Breaker up of play, playmaker.
3. Have you any rules, like Germans only etc.?

Haha, okay I'm going to have to restart my career one more time. Since I play on PC I use patches that people create that make career mode better (make older players decline less, player growth better, etc.) Anyway, after I had my last career mode crash, I downloaded the most recent version the guy had put out and it was only a beta version and I had youth academy players coming in at 3 and 4 ft tall lol. So I downloaded his last full stable version and I will be using that.
