Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

Been trying some of what you suggested Tex with Portsmouth the last couple of games. I have 1 Striker (Taylor) set as a Target man, stay central and the other (Storey/Yesil) set to drift wide, get in behind. My RM (Wallace) is set to cut in, get in behind while my LM (Barcham) is stay wide, get in behind. RDM (Rossiter) is Stay back on attack while LDM (Bigirimana) has no instructions. The defence is left alone. I'm thinking of trying the come short tactic in Wallace instead of getting in behind.

Let me know if you see a noticeable difference and how it effects your play. I'm interested to see what changes would do to it, but my team is in such a run of great form right now that I'm not going to tinker with it until that ends.

Will do when I get some more games in tomorrow.

Updates on Zaragoza and Portsmouth will be up within the next few days also.

I remembered Etihad and couldn't remember Chelsea for the life of me either. I remembered it started with an S. And I am kinda pissed because they are one of the main teams I use in FIFA. I just googled it.

                  FIFA 15 - Season 2

                  Blanquiazules’

                  January 2015

                  FC Barcelona 1 - RC Deportivo 3
                  FCB - Iniesta 18'
                  DEP - Iglesias 41', 79', Aquino 82'
                  MOTM: Iglesias

Iniesta received a pass from Messi outside of the box and took a touch to his left to get an open look and fired from the edge of the box into the bottom left corner. Iniesta then was booked twice in the next 6 minutes and was sent off putting Barcelona a man down. De Tomas raced down the right side of the box and sent a low ball across for Iglesias to slide in and tap home to finally take advantage of the extra man. The red card really came back to haunt them after Costa fired a shot off the post and Iglesias was there to fire in the rebound. Deportivo really put the game away when Costa broke free down the left wing and sent a low cross in for Aquino to tap in from in front of goal.

                  RC Deportivo 3 - Atletico Madrid 0
                  DEP - Guardado 45', 74', Aquino 56'
                  MOTM: Guardado

Dzeko was shown a straight red in the 24th minute after he took out Guardado's legs from behind after passing off the ball. Just before the end of the half, Guardado lined up a free kick from 38 yards out and hit it low around the left side of the wall and saw it take a bounce before going into the bottom left corner. Iglesias passed the ball off from the top of the box to Aquino free on the right side of the goal and he was able to trap it and then line up his shot to place it inside the far post. Guardado played the ball to Iglesias outside of the box and then made a run into the middle of the box to get it back from him to fire it into the top right corner.

                  ZEN - Rondon 26', 90'
                  MOTM: Urreta

Rondon got the ball and ran right past Insua into the box and fired a shot inside the near post that should have been kept out by the keeper, but settled in the back of the net. Aqunio found Laure down the right wing and he sent a cross into the box picking out Barral on the back post for a header into the goal. Witsel took advantage of poor marking and played Rondon up the middle for the easy goal on the near post.

                  Levante UD 0 - RC Deportivo 1
                  DEP - Reyes
                  MOTM: Reyes

Reyes fired a shot at the goal and saw it kept out by the keeper. Barral was able to stick his foot out and tap the rebound out to the side and Reyes followed up his first miss with a powerful left footed shot into the upper netting for the first senior goal of his career.

Europa League Round of 32 Leg 2
                  Zenit St. Petersburg 2 (4) - RC Deportivo 3 (4)
                  ZEN - Hulk 61', Garcia 90'
                  DEP - Aquino 64', De Tomas 69', 79' (PEN)
                  MOTM: De Tomas

Hulk got the ball just outside the box and hit a curling right footed shot that found it's way perfectly into the top right corner. Just minutes later Reyes played the ball to Juan Dominguez who used his first touch to find Aquino on the right side of the goal for the sliding finish to the far post. Juan Dominguez played the ball to De Tomas just past midfield and he went on a run up the middle to slot it between the keeper's legs and into the net. Luisinho got the ball on the overlap and went through on the left side of the goal before getting pulled down from behind letting De Tomas convert the penalty easily to extend the lead. Hulk pulled down a cross on the left side of the box and picked out Garcia in the middle for the first time strike into the top right but it came too late and Deportivo advanced on away goals.

                  RC Deportivo 3 - Granada CF 1
                  DEP - Urreta 47', De Tomas 59', Aquino 86'
                  GRA - Perez 90'
                  MOTM: Urreta

Aquino sent a cross into the box that was cleared out to the edge and fell to Urreta who took a touch around a defender and fired across his body to the bottom right corner. Urreta got free down the left side of the box and dribbled to the end line before sending a low ball across for De Tomas to tap in on the back post. Aquino attacked the right side of the box and faked a shot before cutting the ball inside and firing a left footed shot inside the far post. Perez pulled one back late after a corner was deflected around a few times and fell to him to power into the top right corner.

Deportivo La Coruña Player of the Month

                  Javier Aquino

Javier Aquino was in impressive form this month tallying 4 goals from his spot on the right side of the field. He also showed off his passing ability connecting on several crosses and being part of many dangerous build up plays.

                  Manager Comments

League Form - The unbeaten run improves to 18 straight as we seemingly can't be stopped. This month saw us dominate two great teams in Barcelona and Atletico, conceding only 1 goal combined in the process. How long can this run continue? With Real Madrid coming up next month and us pulling within 1 point of their lead, this is a great time to be in this form.

Europa League - After a disappointing home loss in the first leg, we were able to come back and secure our place in the round of 16 with a great performance in the second leg. It was nearly a repeat of our loss to Real Madrid in the Copa Del Rey, but I am glad that we were able to pull it out and move on. We face Manchester United next, and this will surely be one of our greatest challenges taking on a team that is typically a perennial Champions League contender.

Guardado Down Again - Andres Guardado was hurt again this month, this time for 3 weeks. This made it difficult going into the second leg of the Europa League match up without our best player, but we were able to push on. Pedro Reyes impressed in his given opportunity taking over in the midfield after being promoted to the senior team. His future with the club looks like it could be very bright if he builds off of his game winner against Levante.

Ouch that blows well dont feel bad I had the same thing happen to me with Betis in the Semi Finals(I think don't quote me on that) I won the away leg 2-1 then I blew it in the Home leg letting them score 7 on me and me only scoring 2 . That also means you can focus on Europe and the league so its not all bad in the end.

My strike partnership when I use De Tomas and Barral works extremely well together though and they usually link up very nicely. Barral is usually making the right runs, or if he's not there usually my RM is sprinting into that space. De Tomas has been extremely good with his back to the goal and I have gotten good at making those quick turns with him to get off shots around the defender. If I don't have a passing option for him though and I don't think I can make that turn then that's when I play it to my LM who is staying wide and he can either cross it in, or work the ball around some more.

My midfield I use Juan Dominguez as my RDM and I tell him to stay back while attacking, and I have Guardado at LDM and tell him to go balanced and just let his H/H work rate do the rest and he just explodes up and down the field for me. He really is what makes my midfield work since he is seemingly everywhere. I like to use Dominguez in that defensive playmaker role since he has great passing stats. I play it out of the back with him and he can usually initiate the offense by getting it out to a winger or finding Guardado moving forward, but also capable of making long passes over the top if I see someone on a run forward trying to beat the back line. You'll notice that I don't really have a true defensive mid, but rather two average midfield defenders. So I have to be careful with my positioning since neither of them are fantastic man markers or tacklers. Anyway, I set both of them to man mark so that way I can use them to cover anyone over the center of the box and let my CB's pick up runners or just be in the way of any shot attempts.

I set both of my fullbacks to always overlap as well so that they can be extra options to move the ball around on the wing, and they make great targets when trying to switch the field since they are usually just slightly back from the winger who has the opponents on him.

Centerbacks of course are set to always stay back. The only thing I prefer here is to have one that is a good one on one defender with high marking and tackling, and the other be a bit quicker to cover more ground, and have just a little bit of ball control abilities so he can push up kind of like a CDM if he intercepts a ball cleanly, or if I am trying to work around a press, and then he can start the counter the other way.

Edit: I updated the midfield section to include a little more about how I use Juan Dominguez at RDM.

Both of my strikers are M/M so maybe that's why I've struggled a bit more trying to make it work.

It's interesting how you've been able to use Dominguez at defensive mid really well. I know he is pretty much an all rounder in midfield, but I see him leaning more towards CAM so it's great you've been able to get good results with him as RDM. I've used Roberto Torres at RDM when we're down and not attacking enough, but I leave him with no instruction so that he can be the box to box.
I haven't tried the man mark instruction on my defensive Mids since that's not the mid I want Darder to be. With the cut passing lanes instructions he just stays roaming the center of midfield, actually staying behind in attack, and focusing on interceptions rather than trying to engage. I may try giving Camarasa the man mark instruction though and see if that ensures he comes back on defense as soon as possible.

Keano let me know how it goes with the come short instruction. Before my Osasuna career I had a Guadalajara career (which I didn't post) and I tried to use that instruction with one of my CAMs I was using out wide. To be honest I didn't like it at all and I think you'd be better off just not specifying anything on that instruction tab. In my experience it's best to let that player have a balanced support run since there will be times that a run into space would be most dangerous but because of the instruction he will just ask for the ball at his feet. Back then I was still getting used to 15 and I haven't tried that instruction ever since, so I my knowledge could be outdated. Let us know how it goes!

I use the come short instruction on Coutinho. It works really well and allows him to get into a good space to let fly or thread through for Sturridge
