Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?
Crystal Palace Career Mode
Premier League: Stoke Head Past Sloppy Palace
Stoke 3 Crouch '3 '21 Assaidi '57
Crystal Palace 1 Bakkali '81
It's starting to look as if Crystal Palace's achilles' heel has already been found out this early into the season as three headed goals left them staring at Edgar's first defeat in charge. Stoke embraced a wonder start as Crouch's header powered past Speroni, and from then on it looked like Stoke's game. 3-0 up, Palace finally began to grow in confidence and were it not for chances spurned, could have found themselves a way back into the game. Despite Bakkali's impressive late finish, it was not to be and Stoke deservedly won.
Mark Hughes: "We played very well and found their weakness. I'm obviously happy to pick up another three points, but we need to work on our defence. To concede a goal as scrappy as that is poor, very poor. Nevertheless, from an attacking point of view we played magnificently and Crouch in particular was excellent."
Gus Edgar: "Games like these, we need to take points from if we want to avoid relegation. We've lost our spark that we had pre-season against Tottenham, and now we need to try and regain that. I can only name him (Bakkali) and Bannan that did well, but otherwise we played poor and deserved to lose. We need to be more prominent in the air, that's what I think needs to be improved upon massively."
Premier League: United Survive Late Scare to See off Palace
Manchester United 3 Rooney '45 Valencia '55 Van Persie '78
Crystal Palace 1 Murray '87
United's poor start to the season finally got off and running with a resounding 3-1 win over newly promoted Crystal Palace, but it wasn't as easy as the scoreline suggests. In fact, Crystal Palace started the first half stronger as an early Jedinak strike smashed against the post. Despite this, Palace couldn't create chances from their pressure and De Gea was rarely troubled. However, the champions found themselves in the lead against the run of play when Rooney rose past Dier to head the ball into the back of the net, the fourth goal in a row Palace have conceded from a header. United then began the second half where they left off with Valencia driving the ball past Speroni at his near post. Van Persie's strike seemingly prevented any way for Palace to get back into the match, but Murray's tidy goal compounded with perhaps a too late assault on the United goal showed that Palace still had fight in them. United still managed to win, but not without a few scars.
David Moyes: "I have to give credit to Palace, they looked bright at times and deserved their goal. Still, on the balance of thing we should have, and did win the match, and my players played their hearts out today. I know its been tough so far this season but we came back and hit it running."
Gus Edgar: We always knew it was going to be tough against this United team, they have real talent in their squad. I thought we were quite good today and possibly could have got a point, but that's the mark of champions, isn't it, to score even when you're not doing so well. It's disappointing not to win a game yet but we've scored in every game so far and we've had some tough fixtures. I'm very confident of a win this Wednesday."
Premier League: The Eagles Edge Past Lowly Sunderland
Crystal Palace 2 Bakkali '11 '43 Dann sent off '82
Sunderland 1 Gardner '83
Crystal Palace managed their first win of a season with a nervous game against a stumbling Sunderland side who never looked superior. It was a good start for Palace as they put the Black Cats to the sword, with Bakkali stroking an early goal calmly past Butland, and when Bakkali grabbed his second just before half-time, it looked like a comfortable win. It remained that way for most of the second half, with a handful of chances for Palace to put the game beyond doubt, but it was Sunderland who scored next, a perfectly placed penalty from Gardner after Dann cluttered Altidor to the ground, receiving a red card for his troubles. Yet the Eagles held on to a deserved win, leaving the manager impressed.
Gus Edgar: "The boys deserved it today, they really did. We dominated all game and even with 10 men we never looked like conceding. It was disappointing not to get a clean sheet, but as long as we're scoring as many goals as we are right now, we should be fine. Still, training my defenders for Sunday is my priority right now."
Gus Poyet: "We were never really in the game. I still think we should have got a point if we were a little more clinical, but honestly, we need to improve our performances."
Crystal Palace Snap up Neglected Ake
Deadline day was largely uneventful for Edgar and his Palace side, with deals impressively made earlier in the window. Yet there was still time to improve Palace's wayward defence, and Nathan Ake was the proposed solution. After arriving at Palace for 1.1m, Ake stated that the reasons for joining Chelsea was to get more playing time. Many pundits see this as a real coup for Edgar, but fail to see how Ake helps Palace's defence in the short term, with both Dann, Gabbidon and Dier offering more experience and quality. Pundits also suggest that it is the left-back position that needed improving the most, where a deal earlier in the window for Fryers fell through.
Premier League: Swansea Entertain Palace in 5-Goal Thriller
Crystal Palace 2 Murray '44 '85
Swansea City 3 Bony '45 '78 Shelvey '55
Swansea won their first away game of their season with a thrilling match against Palace. The first half was tense with little chances, but a stunning strike from Murray's weak foot gave Palace the lead. Yet it only took 47 seconds for Swansea to hit back, a De Guzman cross meeting the head of Bony. A scrappy second-half goal saw Palace finding themselves behind at home for the first time in Edgar's time in charge of Crystal Palace, and Bony's second gave Swansea a deserved two-goal cushion. Murray retalliated with his second in the 85th minute but by then it was too little too late and Palace had lost yet another game.
Gus Edgar: "This was a really important game for us and I'm disappointed to have lost it. Games like these, and with a team like us, we need to be getting three points from this, that's a necessity. Swansea are a good side and they are in Europe, but we had many opportunities to score which we simply didn't take. We need to work on our defending, 3 center backs didn't work and I need to find a solution."
Michael Laudrup: "It's a good win, but we conceded goals we didn't need to. I'm happy with our league position, but of course there are things and aspects of our play that can be worked on, defending is just one. We gave it our all though, and we won at a tough ground, so I'm happy with that, I have to be."
Crystal Palace Survive Scare to Squeeze Past Resilient Notts County
Crystal Palace 2 Jerome '45 Bakkali '78
Notts County 1 McGregor '57
Despite Palace's Premier League status, it was Notts County who looked more likely to score, and their manager was left feeling unlucky with the loss. Palace featured a largely rested squad with only Bakkali and Ward returning from the game against Swansea. Nevertheless, Palace were stronger on paper and it was quality of finishing in the end that won it for Palace, with two finely placed goals sandwiched by McGregor's skewed miskick. Yet without Bonilla's bravura performance, County could have found themselves 2 goals up. It's ultimately a win for Palace, but this performance doesn't bode well for their cup run.
Premier League: Damp Conditions and a Damp Result Leaves Edgar Raging
Southampton 1 Diouf '25
Crystal Palace 0
It's a frightening thought that despite Palace's lowly league position, this was the first game where they failed to score, and indeed Edgar's first too. it was an uneventful game and an uninspired performance from both teams, with only new signing Diouf's scrappy pass into an open net as the moment of "inspiration". The rain and muddy pitch was the reason, Edgar stated, as to why Palace lacked their cutting edge.
Mauricio Pochettino: "We got the win, we got the three points, and that's what counts. We've found it hard this season to make an impact but this game was important and I'm happy with Diouf's performance, he looked very lively."
Gus Edgar: "Horrible, horrible conditions. The game should not have been allowed, the pitch was very muddy and the ball couldn't travel. Our playstyle involves keeping possession and passing it along the ground, but it was very difficult for us to do that due to the conditions. I don't think it was deserved (on being sent to the stands). I have a right to argue with the refferee, I was merely stating that the weather was rubbish. It was unfair on us."

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?
Season 3, Arsenal, entering January window.
News:
Arsenal fail to reach a contract extension with Theo Walcott. Theo is set to make 160k in weekly wages; he had approached and asked for 190. Arsenal attempted to meet In the middle at 180k and an Important First Team Player role but the RW refused to accept the contract.
Theo still has 2 years and 6 months left on his contract, so speculation has started on what this could mean to the teams chemistry, and possible media distractions.
The Ox, 4 goals, 2 assists, 19 appearances across all tables, and Wellington Silva, 5 goals, 10 assists, 25 appearances across all tables are able to play RW and come at a cheaper price. The Ox at 100k, and Silva at a modest 80.5k.
Giroud's stock continues to rise as early season games seen him on the bench more than the pitch, but a hot stretch has him second on the team in Goals with 12. He's currently rehab'ing a sprained knee and will be out for the next two weeks.
Off season addition Souleymane Coulibaly strikes for goal in his 3rd appearance vs Cardiff City in the clubs first FA cup match of the season.
Jean-Marie Dongou Tsafack hot on Girouds misfortunes. The young striker enters January with 9 goals, 7 assists, 19 appearances across all tables. Current speculation of Arsenal attempting to place him on season loan outside of the BPL for more consistent play time with what they've seen in Coulibaly.
January Games:
Arsenal vs ManU 2-1 (W)
Newcastle vs Arsenal 0-2 (W)
Arsenal vs Cardiff 3-2 (W)
Games remaining in January:

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?
Hello everyone,
Been reading this thread for a while now and decided to post about my own career mode. Sorry it's a bit long haha.
Season: 2013-14
Team: Reading
League: FL Championship
Difficulty: World Class
Sliders: Default
Half Length: 6 minutes
I picked Reading because of their budget and their already strong starting line-up and bench. I also wanted to make it as realistic as possible so I picked a team that didn't need too much change to fight for promotion so I could spend most of my money on a youth scout. So that's what I did, I bought a 4 star experience and 5 star judgement scout and sent him to England for 9 months. I also bought a scout a future star from the catalogue.
Transfers Out:
Jake Taylor - Season Loan
Pavel Pogrebnyak - £925k to Hull
Jimmy Kebe - £675k to Leeds (pre-management)
Transfers In:
Daniel Williams - £2.5m from Hoffenheim (pre-management)
Wayne Bridge - £250k from Manchester City (pre-management)
Tarik Camdal - £0 from Free Agents
Birol Parlak - £0 from Free Agents
Samed Yesil - Loan to Buy from Liverpool (best young player I've used)
Daniel Carrico - Recalled from loan
Youth Academy:
CB - 16, Potential 85-94 (Scout future star)
LB - 15, Potential 82-94
LB/LM - 15, Potential 80-94
First Team: (4-4-1-1)
GK - McCarthy 75
RB - Gunter 70
CB - Pearce (c) 73
CB - Carrico 75
LB - Bridge 70
RM - McCleary 71
CM - Guthrie 73
CM - Williams 73
LM - Drenthe 74
CF - Yesil 65
ST - Le Fondre 73
This is top 4 in the league after 16 games:
1. QPR - Points: 40, W: 13 D: 1 L: 2, Goal Difference: 20
2. Reading - Points: 36, W: 11 D: 3 L: 2, Goal Difference: 20
3. Leicester - Points: 34, W: 10 D: 4 L: 2, Goal Difference: 11
4. Bolton - Points: 33, W: 10 D: 3 L: 3, Goal Difference: 11
Top scorer is Yesil with 10 goals (what a beast!)
Top keeper is McCarthy with 10 clean sheets (also a beast)
We are also still fighting in both cups with the 5th round of the Capitol One Cup coming up against West Ham and the FA Cup yet to have started.
I am so pleased with our defense so far, 10 goals conceded in just 20 competitive games, and our goal scoring has become superb, with 35 goals scored in all competitions (Yesil with 11 of them).
Thank you for taking your time to read my progress, hopefully you found it interesting.Comment

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?
CSKA Moskva is in first place! After racking up back to back wins after two straight draws, we take the lead in the Russian League with 26 points, with second and third also having twenty six points.
Even though I bought Thierry Henry, I decided to name Ahmad Musa my starter over him, because he's on a hot streak even though he's rated two points lower then Henry. I'm thinking of going after Ronaldihno, just for fun to have another legend on our team.INACTIVEComment

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?
Hello Everyone!
Well, after weeks and weeks of following this thread and running my own CM, I have decided to join in the fun and provide updates as to my progress throughout (hopefully) many seasons! As it stands, I am about 9 games into my second season.
As far as backstory goes, I have had limited experiences with FIFA games in the past. However, when I was able to play them, I found that I was relatively good at the game. Playing soccer when I was younger surely gives me a better understanding of the game than those who simply pick up the game and go.
As far as team selection, my only concern was that the career be an immense challenge. As I perused the various leagues, England jumped out at me for obvious reasons. In theory, with four divisions present, the English League would give me an opportunity at something original on a pretty regular basis, provided that my play was good enough to advance through the ranks.
As I searched through League Two teams, Morecambe appeared to be my best option. Between their lowly rankings and virtually non-existent budget, I thought I had a winner. However, after playing two friendlies, it was apparent that we were not a match made in heaven. So, I went back to the drawing board. This time, I looked for a slightly higher budget while still aiming to select a 1 star team. After my second search, I settled on Newport County with a personal guarantee that I wouldn't be making any more changes.
Due to virtually no experience with the transfer system in FIFA, as I began my career I felt lost. Between the cumbersome GTN and my ability to only buy 1* scouts, I realized that I was in for an uphill climb. Luckily enough, that's precisely what I was looking for.
Because of my transfer "virginity", I ended up only making two moves in the summer transfer window. One was loaning out young striker Conor Washington to Morecambe with no future fee added. My main reasoning behind this was that I had what I thought to be a surplus at the striker position with young men named Jolly, Zebroski, and Wilmott. Washington was also the youngest and lowest rated of the strikers so I figured I didn't have much to lose. The second move I made was bringing in a CM named Richie Towell. Looking back, I'm not sure that this was a necessary move but it is one that has paid off two-fold with Towell being an essential cog in my lineup over both seasons so far.
As of opening day in my first season, my lineup (4-4-2) was as follows:
RB David Pipe CB Ismail Yakubu & Tom Naylor LB Andy Sandell
RM Richie Towell CM Michael Flynn & Adam Chapman LM Ryan Burge
ST Chris Zebroski & Christian Jolley
So, this takes us to the start of my inaugural season in League Two. My next update will guide us on a journey to the January transfer window.
Thanks for reading!Comment

Transfer Plans & Side Notes
The transfer window will be back open in about 6 weeks and I have no plans to add any pieces, I just want to make sure I have enough money to take care of my players and keep them happy as we go into next season and try and win the Champions League in South America.
Adryan the 18 year old CF has 25 goals & 13 assist in 37 matches, has hands down been the MLS MVP, and our best player. Remarkable season so far, could still play up to 6 more matches this season.
Chile Qualifies For WC, England & Scotland Up Next In Friendly Play
As Manager of the Chilean national team we ended WC qualifying by backing into the world cup, in my 4 matches as manager we didn't manage one victory, while drawing 3 and losing 1.
We play England & Scotland this week in friendlies.... I while try to right the ship and get us back on track before the World CupComment
