In to the first month of my Bilbao career, and I can say it has been an interesting one to say the least. With a mixture of results and performances from my players, I'm still trying to find some kind of consistency in a few areas of our game. Here are the results:

Note: I've decided to spend more time on my updates with images and some more detail, hope it is easier and more enjoyable to read for you guys!

      Real Valladolid 2-2 Athletic Bilbao

Not the dream start for my first competitive game in charge unfortunately as the only player who showed up to win was Susaeta with a lively attacking display. We still suffered from the same problems in pre-season and struggled with the constant pressure from Valladolid, resulting in a disappointing draw to start off our campaign.

      Athletic Bilbao 3-0 CA Osasuna

A completely different performance in which we were able to control the game from start to finish where Osasuna were not given the slightest chance get going. Munian showing why he is one of the best young talents today with a dominant display. A great start to our home record, making it a fortress will be key for this season.

      Real Madrid 1-1 Athletic Bilbao

I had to play this game around 3 times due to my xbox freezing at the end of each attempt (Very annoying.) A good result considering Madrid had just acquired Suarez and Lewandowski, with Ruffier pulling off some amazing saves in the final minutes to keep this game tied and taking home a point.

      Overview:
This month has definitely been an improvement from pre-season, yet to lose a game and showing our intentions early by sitting 4th on the ladder. Despite this, I also feel like we could still be a bit more calm on the ball and stay composed for the full 90 minutes, maybe turning these draws into wins and making it easier for us to meet our objectives at the end of the season.

      Player of the month:

Muniain has been an absolute star and has taken on the role as main playmaker for this team, providing 2 assists and 1 goal in his first few games. We hope this run of form continues for the rest of the season.
      Other honourable mentions: Ruffier, Benat

      No love for De Marcos?

He's one of the most versatile players in the league. I've played him at CAM, CM, CDM, RM, LM, and even RB when Ramalho went down.

Its adds up but it left me with $3M and around 150 in wages... i got Bale because i transferred him off Real Madrid and then back on so I would be able to buy him, when you do this it makes the game think the player has been with the club for 2 years. He is my favorite player and I didn't want to face him when i played Madrid. I waited until he turned 24 and it cost me $95.5M and 275 in wages. Karma came back around and with the money I gave them and from selling Benzema they got Aguero,Suarez and Lewendowski along with Ronaldo which is by far more unrealistic than my transfers.

          Chesterfield FC – 2013/14 Season

Just made it through the January transfer window. I wanted to strengthen our squad with upgrades at RB and RCM, as well as secure a few Bosman transfers to add depth next season when the players we have on loan return to their parent clubs, and one of our LBs retires.

          Transfers Out
          ST Richards, 64 ovr, 31 yo – Birmingham, £550,000
CM Schuller, 66 ovr, 22 yo – Plymouth Argyle, player swap
CM Grimes, 52 ovr, 17 yo – Dagenham, season loan

I hadn’t planned on selling Richards, but he was in great form (25 app, 9 g, 10 a, 7.4), and I got upwards of a dozen offers for him. One of my rules for this CM is that if any bigger teams make offers for any of my players, I have to make a reasonable counteroffer rather than reject. Richards’ value, according to the game, was £250,000, but I asked for £550,000. Every other team declined, but Birmingham took it without trying to negotiate. I thought it wasn’t bad for a 31 year old, especially because Gnanduillet has grown to 64 ovr, and is only 21 year old. Still, never easy to lose your most in-form player.

          Transfers In
ST Cole, 56 ovr, 18 yo – Manchester City, season loan (option to buy for £200,000)
CM Harvey, 54 ovr, 18 yo – Plymouth Argyle, £180,000
CM Hourihane, 62 ovr, 22 yo – Plymouth Argyle, player swap
          RB Christie, 63 ovr, 20 yo – Coventry, £400,000

I indentified Christie and Harvey before the window opened, and began negotiating for them right away. Hourihane was a bit of a surprise; I saw a news alert that he had requested a transfer, so I swooped immediately. They wanted £500,000 for him, which was too rich for our cash-strapped side, but they accepted Schuller in a straight swap. Schuller’s been good (21 app, 2 g, 1 a, 6.8) this season, but I love the potential that Harvey and Hourihane have. Cole is a little extra cover after Richards left, and a promising youngster I could potentially bring in long-term if he works well for us the rest of the season.

          Bosman Transfers
          ST Kwesi Appiah, Notts County
          LB Chris Chantler, Carlisle United
          RM Danny Green, Charlton Athletic

I don’t expect any of these three to really make a difference next season. I just wanted some squad depth on the cheap.

Chesterfield is now 19-8-3 in League 2 play, sitting at the top of the table on 65 points, 9 points clear of Scnthorpe and with a game in hand. We won our FA Cup 3rd round matchup against Preston, 1-0, but we have Crystal Palace up next, so I’m not expecting to get much further. The first leg of the J. Paint Trophy Area Final at Rochdale ended in a 1-1 draw. We get them at home and hope to get past them into the Final, but that match comes just two days after Palace, so it could test our squad depth.

          Cheers for reading!

Team: Orlando City (3 1/2 Star)
                League: MLS
Difficulty: Goniras Sliders, Legendary, 15 Min Halfs, All Man, No Sim
Objective: Win MLS Cup, Reach Quarterfinals Of CopaLatAm

Rough Start & Orlando City Lose 3 Games In A Row For The First Time

Its been a very rough start to the 2014 season, we might have underestimated how hard it would be to compete in the South American Champions League. Drogba has been a non factor in every game he has played for us, yet to find the back of the net. So we will be switching back to our 1 striker formation that we used all of last season with great success, it will feature two defensive backs & LAM RAM instead of LM & RM, a CF instead of a CAM.
                Recent Matches
                Home/Away
                Orlando City 2 - 0 Colorado Rapids
                Columbus Crew 0 - 2 Orlando City
                Orlando City 2 - 0 Chicago Fire
Atl. Mineiro 2 - 0 Orlando City (Copa LatAm Group)
                Houston Dynamo 2 - 1 Orlando City
Boca Juniors 3 - 2 Orlando City (Copa LatAm Group)
                Orlando City 2 - 0 FC Dallas
Orlando City 1 - 1 Toluca (Copa LatAm Group)

A trend of 2-0 victories for us, but we had a 3 game losing steak, all on the road. Mineiro defending Copa LatAm champs, Houston best home side in MLS, Boca Juniors one of the most prestigious Argentine clubs, tough luck to play all 3 on the road back 2 back. We were able to bounce back, but our Champions League hopes for this season may be fading. We sit just 3 points back of first place after 5 games in the league, LA Galaxy is undefeated in league play with 15 points.

South American Champions League Group Standings

                GROUP A:
                Boca Juniors 7pts
                Atl. Mineiro 7 pts
                ORLANDO CITY SC 1 pts
                Toluca 1 pts

                GROUP B:
                Sao Paulo 5 Pts
                Indep. Medellin 5 Pts
                Arsenal 4 pts
                NY Red Bulls 1 pts

                GROUP C:
                Newell's 7pts
                Corinthians 5 pts
                LA Galaxy 3 pts
                Atl. Nacional 1 pts

                GROUP D:
                River Plate 5 Pts
                Internacional 4 pts
                Ind. Santa Fe 3 pts
                America 2 Pts

So halfway through the group stages we are 6 points back of 1st & 2nd, home games against the top two sides.

International Friendlies vs Cameroon & Netherlands
Chile suffered a 3-2 loss away at Cameroon by the brilliance of Eto'o, an amazing free kick to start and an amazing header to win it late.

Against the Dutch in the nations capitol at the Amsterdam Arena we went down 2-0 early, but some how were able to bounce back in the 2nd half and get a late equalizer, the game would end 2-2.

2 more friendly before the world cup against England & Ivory Coast.

Rumor is Manager Blackburn might be looking at potential job openings

After a rocky start, rumor is Blackburn might be looking to make a move to European club football if he can find an appealing job.

Only sides potential hiring right now are the bottom of the Portuguese league according to sources Blackburn is not interested.

Blackburn released this statement, "Our goal right now is to catch LA Galaxy atop the table, and try to get back into contention to advance out of the group stage of the Copa LatAm, we will know after our next match in the group against Atl. Mineiro if we will be in contention for the last 2 matches or have to give up hope and focus on our league season and qualifying for next year...... As of where I might end up, I coach at Orlando City, thats what Im focused on."

Blackburn Suffers Two More Losses At Orlando & Bolts
Reports are that Blackburn deeply begin regretting his decisions to spend big money to bring Ronaldinho & Drogba to the club. He started thinking the moves would cripple the club for quite some time. while Ronaldinho did score twice, he wasn't a big enough impact, for instance, the club also signed Landon Donovan, who was scoring more then Ronaldinho & Drogba combined, and making a big impact with pace, & defense as well which neither were doing.... Blackburn left to be the new man at Boca Juniors, a team that beat him earlier in the year in the group stages of the South American Champions League. The two teams will meet again in a few weeks. Blackburn only lost 3 games of 34 in his first season at Orlando, not including the playoffs, Boca will expect the same form.

Orlando suffered a 4-1 defeat at Vancouver which almost sent Blackburn over the edge, and after blowing a 2-1 lead to Atl. Mineiro in the Group Stages of the Copa LatAm and losing 3-2 in the 93rd minute, he had enough.

Upcoming Matches & Goals For Season
vs Atl. Mineiro (Copa LatAm Group)
                  vs Ivory Coast (International Match)
                  @ England (International Match)
                  @ Belgrano
@ Orlando City SC (Copa LatAm)

We have locked up advancing to the Quarterfinals already in the South American Champions League but now we will look to win the group in hopes of a better quarterfinal match up.

The Board Of Directors expect me to win the league title, the Torneo Final is 6 games in, and Boca sits first place with 5 Wins & 1 Draw, with only 13 games left in the Final we will look to hold on to first and win the playoffs.

                        Chesterfield complete domestic double.

After taking home the J. Paint Trophy with a 2-0 win over Bradford City, Chesterfield FC went on to clinch the League 2 title in comfortable fashion. The Spireites finished League 2 play with a 30-11-5 record for 101 points, 15 points clear of second place Portsmouth.

Oxford United and playoff winners Bury will join Chesterfield and Portsmouth in League 1 next season. They will replace the newly-relegated Notts County, Carlisle United, Stevenage, and Crewe Alexandra.

All is not perfect for Chesterfield FC, however, as promising youngster Devonte Cole turned down a contract offer after playing out his loan spell, choosing to return to the very long bench at Manchester City over the promise of playing time in a "less prestigious" league.

Cole's decision likely comes down to the promise of larger silverware, as Manchester City won this year's Barclays Premiere League trophy, three points ahead of rivals Manchester United. Elsewhere in Europe, Barcelona won La Liga, and Bayern secured the Bundesliga title with ease. Juventus were crowned champions of Serie A, while PSG clearly established themselves the power in Ligue 1.

I quit my Bilbao career I just got FIFA 14 and apparently still need to get used to it. I'm playing in world class and I just simply could not score. Hell, I couldn't even get a shot in! I finished the preseason with 1 lose, 1 draw, and 1 victory but I had a bad start to the season. I tied 0-0 my first game and then lost 1-0 in my second game. I dominate possession and passing percentage, but once the ball reaches my forwards I lose it. So, I brought the difficulty down to professional for my 3rd match vs Real Madrid and it was too easy. I won 2-0 which left me with a bad taste despite winning. Brought it back up to world class for my 4th season game and what do you know I lose 1-0 again! Decided to quit, and start a career with Milan. Once again not doing good. I'm creating a lot more chances now but the opposing goalkeeper saves all of them. Im gonna keep messing around with the game and work on my dribbling. I'm still used to Fifa 13 and mix some buttons up like the button to dribble close used to be L2 and R1 (PS3) but now it's L2 and R2. I instinctively press the old controls and end up just shielding the ball (I do a lot of shielding, but it ruins the play some times where I did not mean to shield.) so that is it for now. I'm on a path to redemption and I'll return to Bilbao once I'm ready to play with the big boys

The Villarreal career got boring because of several reasons, so I'm now the manager of Marseille. The French league is the only one I haven't won yet, so I'm keen to get that under my belt. I also admire how in reality, the French league is one of the most competently run in Europe.

Marseille have a long and proud history as one of the most successful clubs in France. Success would mean a return to the glory the club knew as recently as 2010, as well as upsetting a wealthy duo in Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco.

The first team is fairly solid, though some players will need replacing over the next 12 months or so. With a bit of strengthening in January, we should be able to qualify for next year's Champions Cup while making it to the last 16 of this year's edition from a group that also includes Copenhagen, Porto and Bayer 04. A transfer budget of €15 million plus group stage winnings means I should be able to get my first choices in the winter window.

Some of the players I'm scouting include:

                            Romain Alessandrini (winger, Stade Rennais/France)
                            Serge Aurier (defender, Toulouse/Ivory Coast)
                            Demba Ba (striker, Chelsea/Senegal)
                            Clement Chantome (midfielder, Toulouse/France)
                            Sebastien Corchia (defender, Sochaux/France)
                            Papy Mison Djilobodji (defender, Nantes/Senegal)
                            Gueida Fofana (midfielder, Lyon/France)
                            Salomon Kalou (striker, Lille/Ivory Coast)
                            Alexander Lacazette (striker, Lyon/France)
                            Jeremy Menez (striker, PSG/France)
                            Steven N'Zonzi (midfielder, Stoke/France)
                            Yaya Sanogo (striker, Arsenal/France)
                            Fernando Torres (striker, Chelsea/Spain)
                            Jetro Willems (defender, PSV/Netherlands)

Will be keeping a close eye on this one. Always wanted to start a career in France, might be my next move after my bilbao career. Good luck!

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

I want to ask you guys a question, because I'm starting to get frustrated so I want to know how others deal with this. How do you deal with the board's expectations being higher than their support?

I just won League 2 by a comfortable margin, got promoted to League 1, and won manager of the year. For all of that, the Chesterfield board gives me 525,000 for transfers. Then they tell me my objective for the season is to "fight for promotion," which, as I understand it, means they want me to qualify for the League 1 playoffs, or a top-6 finish.

I've built a young squad that I think has good potential, but they aren't ready to compete in League 1 right away. (Especially since I bumped the difficulty up to Legendary.) I need some help at RB, RM, and CM, but there's no way I'm going to get that with 525k. I may be able to add a player or two for depth, but I'm not going to find a guy who comes in and immediately strengthens my squad with that little money to spend.

So what do you do in this situation? How do you deal with this frustration? Because honestly, this is a big reason why most of my CMs rarely last more than a season or two, but I want to stick this one out.
