Everton Take First Merseyside Derby of 2015/16

LIVERPOOL – Jurgen Klopp and Jordan Henderson’s first Merseyside Darby as manager and captain started off brilliantly, as Henderson weaved through the Everton defense to take a 1-0 lead. They would carry the lead into the halftime break—but would be on the receiving end of a shocking penalty, which Lukaku blasted past Simon Mignolet—who actually almost made a brilliant save.

The Reds would hit the bar 4 times on Sunday, unable to find the back of the net again—after Henderson scored his (team leading) 3rd league goal of the season. Liverpool were without Jordan Ibe, Emre Can, Coutinho, and Daniel Sturridge (limped off 1st half). The international break comes at a perfect time for them, as they’re expected to have all 4 players back for their next league game v Tottenham, at White Hart Lane.

The loss puts Liverpool a dismal 16th on the table, while Everton shoot up to an incredible 2nd place, just one off the leading aforementioned Spurs. After the break, Liverpool has a busy October—playing 5 games in 14 days (3 BPL, 1 Europa, 1 Cap One).

That was a horrible first derby, taking the lead and then losing 3-1 while hitting the bar FOUR times. But hey, it can only get better right?

I guess, lol...

In my Arsenal career, my wingers are Gareth Bale and Alexis Sanchez. Let's just say I'm struggling getting used to Lallana and Origi, lol....

Dunno if you watched the video, but the first penalty was crap--and the 2nd one was pure frustration.

Gonna try to keep after it. I'm getting better playing with them. Just a big hole to dig out of...

Spoiler

Starting XI (4-4-2 Diamond Wide)

Martinez

Odubajo/Komar/Blackett/Binnom-Williams

Ince

Giles ------------------ B. Moore

Gordon

Ambrose ------- Thuram

___________________________________
J. Paint Trophy - Area Final, 1st Leg
Southend United - Newport County (0-4)
Binnom-Williams 5' (B. Moore)
Thuram 20' (Odubajo)
Thuram 37'
McKay 90+' (Thuram)

The Exiles all but booked their spot in the JPT final after throbbing Southend ON THE ROAD to the sound of four goals. Marcus Thuram wsa in the middle of it all, helping Newport get a two-goal lead inside 20 minutes then stealing a ball at the top of the opponent's box in the 37th minute to all but seal this win for the visitors. Then, to put the final dagger on Southend, he assisted McKay to give Marccelino's squad an almost unfair advantage going into the second leg of these semi-finals.

League Match 25
Walsall - Newport County (0-1)
Gordon 67' (Odubajo)

Initially, with just two days of rest following leg one of the JPT semis, Marccelino was going to play the B-squad in this game but after creating such a comfortable margin against Southend he decided to play his regulars in this game. It paid off as Odubajo and Gordon hooked up in the 67th minute for what would be the only goal of the game in a match-up that only featured two shots on target (both by Newport).

J. Paint Trophy - Area Final, 2nd Leg
Newport County - Southend United (2-2, 6-2 agg)
Payne 24'
Payne 33'
Seager 45+' (P. Miller)
Potter 90+' (Çelik)

Seager 6'

Marccelino played a mix of his B and C squads in this game, taking advantage of the four goal lead to give some of the players recently promoted from the academy a look on the pitch. It was scary during the first 45 minutes of the game but the reserves scored at the end of each half and The Exiles were able to maintain their four goal lead to advance to the finals of the JPT.

Spoiler

League Match 26
Newport County - Oldham Athletic (1-1)
Bove 48'
Gordon 58' (Binnom-Williams)

This was pretty much an evenly matched game although The Exiles created a couple more scoring opportunities than the visitors but in the end they had to settle for a draw.

League Match 27
Chesterfield - Newport County (2-5)
Ebans-Blake 9'
Ambrose 13' (Odubajo)
Ambrose 34' (Gordon)
Thuram 45' (Ince)

Cansdell-Sherriff 45+'
Thuram 51' (Giles)
Ambrose 70' (Thuram)

Thierry Ambrose scored a hat-trick in his Newport debut and his outstanding chemistry with Thuram right of the bat led The Exiles to a comfortable win at Chesterfield. There was simply nothing stopping the French striker-duo once they got going and they even linked up to score the final goal of the game. If Ambrose is going to take this team to that kind of level, the league title might be a wrap pretty soon.

Ambrose had a dream debut with his new club.

League Match 28
Newport County - Sheffield Utd (1-1)
Gordon 36'
Adams 90+'

Ambrose was unable to follow his scorching debut in a good way, missing a penalty kick in the 10th minute that proved costly as The Exiles were only able to get a draw against a feisty Sheffield Utd. Luckily for Newport a free kick by Clark Gordon in the 36th minute deflected off a Sebastián Driussi at the wall

(3 others with 6 also)

J. Paint Trophy stats

Scorers: Reid (Notts County) - 6, Thuram (Newport County) - 5.
Assists: B. Moore (Newport County) - 5, Odubajo (Newport County) - 3.
Clean Sheets: Camp (Rotherham Utd) - 3, Loach (Notts County) - 2, Martinez (Newport County) - 2.

Marccelino's Diary: SCORED our way into the JPT Final and finally leaped the Dons for the lead in the standings, therefore it was a good month. Ambrose's arrival and his grand debut definitely put a smile on my face too, he should be one of the best strikers in the Championship next season and he has BPL-caliber potential so I foresee him sticking around for a while. The JPT Final won't be until early April so we need to take advantage of this next couple of months with nothing but league games. Notts County will be a difficult opponent for us when the final does come as we've never been able to comfortably beat them whether the game has been played in League Two, League One, or cup play.

We haven't made any additions to the academy as our scouts have just been sent out on assignments to Italy, Belgium, and Netherlands. Our youth squad remains as follows:

- Satoshi Kagome (CDM, 49 OVR, 78-84): 17-year old from Japan who is physically strong. Coaches will look to develop him into more than just a defensive stopper.
- Yoshi Ishinomori (CM, 48 OVR, 77-83): The 17-year old from Japan is a commanding physical presence standing at 6'5" and 189lbs and the club will try to develop his skill set to quickly match his physical abilities.
- Eiichi Suzuki (GK, 60 OVR, 76-82): The 16-year old from Japan represents the second keeper signed by the club and will battle with his countryman, Hayato Matsuki, to become the club's main backup goalkeeper.
* Recent addition.

I believe that is all for this update. Just two more will come for this season: FEB/MAR and the End of the Season one. Stay tuned!

NOTE! - The TOTS was picked by FIFA. I don't agree with it, some players fit in there perfectly (Willian, Clyne, Williams), but some don't at all. I will make my own next season!

(And apperently, I have to change the size of the pictures. They were fine when I displayed them in the preview, but now it just looks bad. )

Cruzerr: Terrific ending to the season! Barkley and Lukaku showed how important they were for you but Big Rom especially. Karius also did really well. Looking forward to seeing Champions League football at Goodison next season! Those cards were nicely done, how did you do them?

Rabbit: Ambrose arrived in style and is already connecting with Thuram which is great! You've manged to get ahead of MK Dons in the league while simultaneously reaching the J. Paint Trophy so good going. Can you finish with a domestic double?

Hi guys... for some reason, OS is not working properly for me... I cannot like or even multi-quote anyone's posts and whenever I try to post something, I cannot use any of the formatting choices like changing font/font size or even adding a picture....

Hmm, I just tried there, and I can't do anything either. Very strange.

It's my Mozilla Firefox adblockers that are causing the problem...
