    '18-'19 December/January Update

    The Roster

    Spoiler

    Starting XI (4-1-2-1-2)

    Maisonnial (70)

    Cools (73)/Alan Henrique (72)/Alonso (80)/Tigiev (72)

    Sow (73)

    Çağlayan (77) --------------- Biseswar (76)

    Türüç (79)

    Peñaranda (75) ------- Stojiljković (75)

    ______________________________

    League Match 13
    Kayserispor - Akhisarspor (3-2)
    Vestergaard 4'
    Peñaranda 12' (pen)
    Peñaranda 22' (Çağlayan)

    Özdemir 43'
    Peñaranda 76' (Çağlayan)

Adalberto Peñaranda got a hat trick and we needed every bit of it to beat Akhisarspor, who had a very good first half but were unable to sustain their form in the second half as we took over possession and created a good number of opportunities leading up to Peñaranda's third goal.

    League Match 14
    Başakşehir - Kayserispor (3-4)
    Biseswar 16' (Türüç)
    Berisha 23'
    Stojiljković 45' (Peñaranda)
    Berisha 57'
    Türüç 76' (Biseswar)
    Şahin 87'
    Türüç 90+' (Stojiljković)
    Sow 28'
Çağlayan 38' (Dislocated shoulder, out 8 weeks)

Hands down the best game of the year took place at Fatih Terim Stadium where the hosts, having a subpar season, threw everything they had at us to at least steal a point but we wouldn't stop getting go-ahead scores. In stoppage time of the second half Başakşehir executed a throw-in at midfield that was stolen by Stojiljković who ran it down the left wing creating space to feed a wide open Türüç who practically scored the game-winning goal on the last play of the game. They will be talking about this game for years to come.

Unfortunately Çağlayan's injury is a big loss for us. Initially I decided to adjust the rotation the same way I did when he was previously injured, moving Biseswar to RM and inserting loanee Sinan Gümüş at LM, but a couple of days after the game American youngster Kofi Allen messaged me requesting to be transfer listed because he was realizing he wasn't getting played enough. Allen is showing great potential so I decided to give him a chance at LM instead.

Euro League - Group Match 6
    Partick Thistle - Kayserispor (0-3)
    Stojiljković 2' (Türüç)
    Türüç 31' (Stojiljković)
    Gianakos 79' (Stojiljković)

    Sow 41'
    Allen 88'

We didn't mess around this time against the Scottish club and played our starters who got us a comfortable victory to clinch the top seed in our group. The highlight of the game was top academy-graduate Argus Gianakos scoring his first career goal

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7TTKIWY1fCU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

    League Match 15
    Kayserispor - Osmanlispor (1-1)
    Pinto 13'
    Biseswar 15' (Stojiljković)

Osmanlispor has been a contender for a top-5 spot so far this season and they played keep away with the ball for most of the day (61% possession) but were able to hold them to just four shots (all on target) to earn a point in this one.

    League Match 16
    Gaziantepspor - Kayserispor (1-3)
    Biseswar 33' (Türüç)
    Biseswar 40' (Stojiljković)

    Demir 43'
    Allen 82' (Stojiljković)

Diego Biseswar scored for the third and fourth time in the last three league games to lead us to an dominant road victory in which we took 14 shots (10 on target) and held the home team to just one shot. Allen also gave us a glimpse of what he's capable of, scoring the last goal of the game to seal the victory for us.

    League Match 17
    Kayserispor - Trabzonspor (2-0)
    Allen 45+' (Stojiljković)
    Peñaranda 90+' (Allen)

Allen stepped up even more for us in this game as we scored on stoppage time of each half to come away with a comfortable victory even if only half of our 12 shots were on target. It's worth mentioning our defense has been outstanding after giving up 3 goals to Başakşehir.

    _____________________________________________

Diego Biseswar was named Player of the Month for the month of December.

    League Match 18
    Rizespor - Kayserispor (1-1)
    Türüç 6' (Peñaranda)
    Chevalier 39'
    Biseswar 90+'
Cools 12' (Sprained knee, out 3 weeks)

In the first game against Rizespor this season we embarrassed them with a 4-1 victory so they wanted to play us a lot tougher this time around and succeeded, making this an ugly game in which there were only 3 shots on goal combined. Cools' injury shouldn't hurt much since we only have one more game in the next three weeks.

    League Match 19
    Kayserispor - Beşiktaş (5-2)
    Peñaranda 7' (pen)
    Peñaranda 29' (pen)
    Türüç 34' (Peñaranda)

    Arslan 45+'
    Özyakup 65'
    Stojiljković 88' (Diego)
    Ponce 90+' (Stojiljković)

We closed out an excellent two-month stretch with a strong win against a title contender. We not only got off to an early lead with a couple of righteous penalty calls in our favor but also withstood Beşiktaş' attempt to get back in the game and put a couple of daggers on them at the end, including taking advantage of their goalie in our box on a corner kick to do this:

Review: It's now a three-month undefeated streak even if we cheat by claiming January which had just two games, although that win over Beşiktaş must have really impressed the pundits because I received the Manage of the Month Award for January. If we can win our next game we'll jump to the top of the table in the league which would be deserved considering we only one loss all season, best in the league. We also managed to finish first in our group but didn't get a great match-up in the Round of 32 as we'll face Napoli, who finished second in Group A in which every team finished with 9 points. SC Braga shocked the world in their last game of the group stage, beating Tottenham to upset them and clinch a spot into the Round of 32 while eliminating the English club. Overall it has been a great first half of the season for us and if we can maintain our form we could accomplish great things this season. It would serve me well too because the job opportunities I see coming up aren't ones I'm interested in so perhaps if I improve my resume I'll see job openings I might be interested in.

In the meantime it's important we continue to build a strong academy. I might be done scouting for this season so I'll just give you guys an update on the youth squad which gave out a couple of promotions:

ST - Imtiyaz Ismail (54 OVR, 82-94): This Algerian prospect recently turned 16 and is cementing his status as the best prospect in our academy, perhaps the best striker prospect to ever be groomed by the club. What he lacks in technique (due to his age) he compliments with killer pace (80/74 acc/spd) for such a young player to go along with very good curve (76) on his shots.
Cemal Al-Jurr (43 OVR, 78-94): 17-year old from Algeria who we scouted for several months. While he's extremely raw at the moment our scout remained convinced he has very good potential so we signed him as a long-term project and he's been showing quick progress
LB - Mahmoud Al Farsi (52 OVR, 74-88): 16-year old from Saudi Arabia who's Physically Strong and shows good aggression. Depending on how he continues to grow he might be more of a CB prospect (76 aggression).
CM - Serdar Emir (54 OVR, 74-88): 16-year old from Turkey described as a Playmaker and showing good agility (76). We continue to evaluate where he fits best in a dimaond midfield.
CM - Uygar Mert Köse (52 OVR, 78-86): 15-year old from Turkey described as Technically Gifted and who is very agile (79). Shows a lot of promise at an early age.
RW - Shafiq Al Shahrani (52 OVR, 78-86): 16-year old from Algeria with an attacking mindset. We're hoping for development in his pace (71acc/69spd).
CAM - Hamzah Al Dalharni (49 OVR, 75-83): This Algerian prospect remains raw and his potential is now rated lower than we initially had it at. We're still hoping he'll develop into an useful player for the club.
LW - Dragen Rennich (62 OVR, 77-83): This prospect from Croatia just turned 17 years old, growing 7 inches to 5'8" and adding 13 pounds to his frame to top out at 152lbs. He has good acceleration (79) and balance (75).
LW - Javier Fernandez (59 OVR, 77-83): Now an 18-year old from Venezuela with good pace (79 acceleration, 70 speed) that will hopefully continue to grow. Good competition for Niarkhos and Rennich in the academy.
RW - Pavel Župan (59 OVR, 76-82): Now an 18-year old from Serbia with good acceleration (73) and agility (73). He projects as more of a role player in the future.
LW - Dragutin Puhovski (54 OVR, 71-77): This prospect from Serbia recently turned 17, growing to 5'9" and 161lbs. He has good pace (74 speed, 71 acceleration) and balance (72). He's a bit behind in the picking order at this position in the academy at the moment but hopefully he can catch up quickly.
    * Recent addition

Emre Karaer (66 OVR) a 16-year old CB from Turkey was promoted to provide depth at the position. He's showing great potential and remains one of our top prospects. Fabian Lopez (61 OVR) a RB from Venezuela requested and also received promotion to the senior squad where he'll mostly continue to train and provide emergency depth.

One last thing I forgot to mention in the transfer window update is that Barış Özbek signed a pre-contract agreement with Aalborg BK. He's 32 with fading skills so we were fine with that.

    February Schedule
    2/4: vs Başakşehir
    2/9: at Akhisarspor
    2/17: at Antalyaspor
    2/21: at Napoli (Euro League)
    2/24: vs Fenerbahçe
    2/28: vs Napoli (Euro League)

    Thanks for reading

      FIFA 15 - Season 10 (2023/2024)

      Rest of December

      Europa League Group Stage (14/12)
      Newcastle | 2-0 | KV Mechelen

      25’, 36’ Campbell

      MotM
      : Sammy Ameobi (7.5)

      Barclays Premier League (17/12)
      Newcastle Utd | 0-2 | Manchester City

      11’ Mangala || 54’ Wickham
We played poorly. We conceded a goal from a corner in the eleventh minute and were thoroughly dominated for the rest of the match. Wickham struck on the counter attack to extend their lead which we had no hope of coming back from.

      MotM
      : Kris O’Hara (7.9) (Saves)

      Barclays Premier League (23/12)
      Manchester Utd | 0-2 | Newcastle Utd

      47’, 53’ Ameobi
Old friends such as Óliver Torres and Aleksandar Mitrović made Manchester appearances but were outdone by a Sammy Ameobi attacking masterclass. After a lacklustre first half, Ameobi managed to break through the defence and squeeze a shot from a tight angle at close range. It was well saved but Ameobi was quick enough to get onto the rebound for our first. The second came as Ameobi dispossessed right wing-back Scott Smith in the penalty area before adjusting his body favourably to finish the game for the side from Manchester in a 2-0 defeat.

      MotM
      : Sammy Ameobi (9.4)

      Barclays Premier League (31/12)
      Hull City | 0-4 | Newcastle

      27’, 78’ Hajrović || 73’ Sanogo || 88’ Campbell

      MotM
      : Izet Hajrović (9.3)

Yaya Sanogo has sprained his ankle and will be out for about 3 weeks.

Newcastle United’s Player of the Month for December (well most of it...)

      Sammy Ameobi
Playing the 31-year-old at left wing has allowed us to be even more dangerous on the attack. Our wingers have been our deadliest players at the moment. What’s being done differently for that to happen? It’s that now instead of just having the one-dimensional play of ‘cross to Sanogo, he heads in’, we are now also relying on our wingers to drift inside to get onto the end of low crosses which has worked tremendously.

      League Table:

      1. Arsenal – 52 Points
      2. Newcastle Utd – 46 Points
      3. Chelsea – 42 Points
      4. Manchester United – 40 Points

      5. Tottenham – 35 Points
      6. Manchester City – 34 Points
      7. Liverpool – 31 Points
      8. Exeter City – 28 Points
      9. QPR – 27 Points
      10. Everton – 26 Points
      11. West Ham – 26 Points
      -----------
      16. Stoke City – 17 Points
      17. Swansea City – 17 Points
      18. Leeds United – 15 Points
      19. Bolton – 10 Points
      20. Aston Villa – 7 Points

      * Denotes team with a game in hand

      Barclays Premier League Top Goalscorers

      1. Héctor Villalba – 14 Goals for Tottenham

      2. Yaya Sanogo – 8 Goals for Newcastle United

      3. Stevan Jovetić – 7 Goals for Arsenal

      Europa League:

We topped the table in our group as expected and our next opponents will be RSC Anderlecht away from home.

      Cabee’s Thoughts:

League Table – I’m really pleased we’re second right now. Yes, we were first for a while but at the start of the season I was worried about the shape in which the team was. I had a blast during pre-season but we played awfully and I did my best to fix the problems in the squad which I hope I have. I have obviously been keeping an eye on Exeter and I’m happy to report they’re on a three game winning streak at the moment and considering where they are in the table, I’m...content with their position. If you think about it, they’re just under the biggest teams in England in the table which is a really good achievement! I still expect them to finish in at least a Europa League spot or I’ll be writing EA a strongly-worded letter!

How the hell has Héctor Villalba...? – Five games ago, the Spurs striker was on seven goals and now he has jumped up to fourteen?! That’s seven goals in five games! Well done lad.

January Transfer Window – The board have declared they are reluctant to give me much in terms of additional funds because ‘based on our league standing, we are still not sure whether the money will be put to good use’ or something like that. Absolute pillocks if you ask me.

Love that you battled back to tie it and it looked like the game was worth every bit of the hype. Other than that I am thrilled to see you at the top of the table while Exeter is stuck in 9th despite the squad you left them with. You're really proving yourself as a manager in this season.
It was awesome! It really did deserve the single post and has probably been one of the most anticipated games of the career mode (well it was to me anyway!). Exeter thoroughly wrecked me in the first half; every time Exeter got the ball I was finding myself in very uncomfortable defensive positions, trying to mark the sheer number of bodies they send up field all at once. I still can't really believe they're not at the top of the table!

Thanks, when I first came to Newcastle I was admittedly a little worried; they wanted me to finish in a Champions League spot whilst teams like Spurs and Man City were happy with me finishing in a Europa League spot.

Pre-season taught me a lot and I sold two of Newcastle's 'best' players (Oliver Torres and Josip Drmic). I was reluctant to sell them because they were undoubtedly Newcastle's star players. Maybe I should have kept them because in real life, the fans would probably be quite angry if a new manager was selling their most beloved players? Am I making any sense here?

I get what you are saying, but at the same time if this was reality then you have proven yourself to be one of the greatest managers, possibly ever, having pulled a 4th division club from the dregs of English football and turned them into a treble winning club. If the fans can find any manager that would be beyond questioning it would be a man that did all of that.

So in short, you keep doing you!

          Season 1

          The Sky Blues

          August 2015

First game of the season and we are against Bury to open league play. They tend to favor a flat 4-4-2 and have some very attack minded full backs. I decide to roll out a 4-5-1 with Joe Cole playing the 10 spot and giving him the freedom to roam the field. I instruct my wingers to stay wide and to press forward at all times to try to take up those spaces that are hopefully vacated by Bury's outside defenders bombing forward. I plan to make up for the lack of defensive help from my wingers by instructing my two holding midfielders to continue to hold back during out attacks.

          Coventry City 4 - 0 Bury FC
          COV - Lameiras 36', Murphy 70', Gadzhev 73', Rose 86'
          MOTM: Gadzhev

The game started slow, but the plan paid off when it was Lameiras on the right wing who opened the scoring using the extra space out on the wing to make a move inside and finish with a strike into the top left. In the second half Murphy adds a second after intercepting the ball and taking on the defense himself to get an impressive near post goal to double the lead. Gadzhev adds a third not long after and Rose a fourth that all but ensures the victory giving us about as good of a start as we could have hoped for.

The next game is a Capital One Cup match up against League 2 side Accrington Stanley. We are feeling good after our first win, and against a lesser side this should be another win. Accrington run a 4-5-1 similar to what we rolled out last match, and we decide to put the same formation out again to match their midfield presence. This time instructions are set for wingers to cut inside to try to find the gaps between their two holding midfielders and the back line. Our holding midfielders are also given more freedom and the fullbacks are instructed to overlap so that we can overload their defensive numbers and try to break them down.

          Capital One Cup
          Coventry City 1 - 0 Accrington Stanley
          COV - Vincelot 90'
          MOTM: Vincelot

Despite feeling confident, Accrington came out and threw a punch right at us as they dominated the chances in the first half but we were able to weather the storm and go into the break tied nil-nil. The second half began to look better as we got into a rhythm getting forward with the ball and keeping them from assaulting our goal as they did in the first half. It wasn't until added time at the end of the second half that we got our breakthrough and Armstrong chipped a ball into the middle for the captain to get his head on it and Vincelot put it past the keeper to secure an ugly win. We also lost Chris Stokes to a sprained ankle during the match, which should keep him out for about a month.

This time we are traveling to Brammal Lane to take on Sheffield United in our 2nd league match. After opening against Bury, a recently promoted side, this should be a much tougher test of where we stand in the league. Sheffield United tends to roll out a 5-3-2 that shifts to a 3-5-2 in the attack. Knowing that the wingbacks will be putting in work on the outsides, we switch to a 4-4-2 flat to try to catch the wingbacks stuck in the attack. The two wingers are told to stay forward and wide, and the fullbacks are given instructions to overlap as well so we know that we can load up the wings and try to win the battle from the outside-in.

          Sheffield United 1 - 0 Coventry City
          COV - Lorentzson 34'
          MOTM: Lorentzson

And sure enough the breakthrough came by exploiting their wingers. Murphy found space on the left and squared the ball into the middle for Lorentzson coming through after overlapping and he finished it first time into the left side of the goal. After that we shut down and changed up the instructions to have the fullbacks be less aggressive going forward and saw out the win with a fine defensive effort throughout the second half. The only negative from the match was losing Joe Cole, but it looks like it's only a knock and the trainers tell me he should be back within the week.

Three games, three wins, this has been as good a start as I could have hoped for. Crewe Alexandra is next who are sitting 12th with two draws so far. It looks like they favor a 4-2-3-1 and our approach for this one will be to load up the midfield and try to overwhelm them with a 4-4-2 Diamond giving us 4 against their 3 in the middle. Cole looks fit and we decide to slide him back into the lineup at the 10. Vincelot slides into the base of the diamond and we bring Rose and Thomas on to sit on the outside due to their pace and passing ability as midfielders. Henderson replaces Fortune after he wasted too many chances last match and the back line remains the same since we have yet to concede this season.

          Coventry City 2 - 0 Crewe Alexandra
          COV - Rose 60', Armstrong 84'
          MOTM: Charles-Cook

Our master plan didn't exactly work how we imagined, and rather than a midfield masterclass, it was a rather dull first half. We pushed on still and in the 60th minute Armstrong won the ball and his cross found it's way to Rose on the far post who was able to put it in the back of the net. With the lead now you we shelled up to the surprise of no one. Crewe launched a continued assault on our goal, but we held them off until Armstrong added one of his own late to officially put it away. Unbeaten through our first four, maybe this board of directors wasn't so crazy after all...

Back to the Capital One Cup now, and we are against Premier League side Bournemouth. They run a flat 4-4-2 with a lot of pace up front in Wilson and King. For this one we decide to use a 4-1-4-1. I leave Vincelot in his usual holding position to deal with their tricky strikers, and bring Murphy and Jones in on the wings to deal with the width of their wingers. We are going to need to try to win the midfield in this one using the extra man in there to our advantage and try to not let them get the ball up ahead to their dangerous duo.

          Capital One Cup
          Coventry City (5) 1 - 1 (3) Bournemouth
          COV - Vincelot 27'
          BOU - Pugh 5'
          MOTM: Charles-Cook

The game starts about as poorly as possible when Pugh scores a wonder goal in the 5th minute pinging it off the post and in from distance. We kept our composure though and kept fighting back and it paid off with a Phillips cross to the back post that was tapped in by our beautiful captain Vincelot. The scoreline held as we did all we could to fight them off the rest of the match and after two periods of extra time, it was down to penalties. Maddison started it off for us and he buried his but Gradel was able to cancel it out making his as well. Next was Fortune and he sent the keeper the wrong way as he converted his chance and Arter sent his attempt crashing off the crossbar giving us the edge. The next two were in for both sides even though Charles-Cook got his foot on one, but it carried on into the net. That left it to our captain to finish it off and he left no doubt as he fired it into the top right and sent us on to the next round, taking down a Premier League side with a single kick. It wasn't all celebrations as we found out Armstrong bruised his shoulder in the first half and will miss the next 2 weeks.

Back to league play and we end this month with a trip to Oldham. It looks like they use a similar 4-4-2 formation to Bournemouth so we keep the same set up we used, changing out the injured Armstrong for Fortune and bringing Joe Cole back in for Maddison in the midfield.

          Oldham Athletic 2 - 2 Coventry City
          OLD - Poleon 75', Wilson 90'
          COV - Vicelot 56', Fortune 59'
          MOTM: Vincelot

Most people would say taking a point away from home is a good result, but not this one, not like this. After an uneventful first half we ran out to a quick 2-0 lead on the back of goals from the man in form Vincelot, and Fortune who broke his scoring drought. We decided two was enough and went into a more defensive mindset to see the game out but a goal from Poleon in the 75th put some pressure back on but we figured with only 15 minutes left we would be okay. Then in stoppage time Wilson sent a looping header from the edge of the box up and over Charles-Cook and they equalized on a goal that absolutely should have been stopped. Now I remember why I said we needed a keeper. With only a few days left in the transfer window that priority has become even larger.

          Transfer Business

As I mentioned earlier the two biggest positions of need are goal keeper and then left back. The issue is money. The club has allotted us just enough to target a first team quality player in only one of those positions pretty much. I sent our scouts out to England, Ireland, and Scotland to do some bargain bin shopping and see if we can get some players on the cheap. As the reports came in I didn't want to make a decision too early so we started play and lo and behold we played great! Then Stokes, are only left back on the roster went down to injury. This reminded me why left back was such a pressing issue. Again we got a reminder in our last game of this month when Charles-Cook, our de facto starting keeper showed his lack of quality by allowing two late goals in. In the final week of the transfer window we began our negotiations trying to get value for our money. First thing's first though, we got an offer for striker Marcus Tudgay and with him being a surplus to our requirements I was more than happy send him out and get any money we could in return.

We found a young keeper from Slovenia, Nejc Vidmar, who was without a club and we entered into negotiations with him right away thinking what's better than a free transfer? It turns out his salary demands were much higher than I was looking to pay. We threw a lower offer out there and he countered back with his full demand still. I tried offering the lower wages again with a clean sheet bonus and he decided he like the sound of the bonus and countered again with his full salary demands, plus the clean sheet bonus. These guys from Slovenia are no push overs... With that having failed I targeted two other keepers in Scott Brown of Aberdeen and Jayson Leutwiler of Shrewsbury. After a lot of back and forth on the fees, we reached an agreement to bring in Leutwiler and we had our new keeper. With some money still left over we started putting in offers for a left back. Damia from Middlesbrough looked like our best option, but they came back wanting an amount that was way more than we could afford. Mills from Oldham was the next one, and once again the fee was more than we could handle. That left us with a last grasp effort as we sent out offers for Andy Taylor from Walsall and Mickey Demetriou from Shrewsbury. Another round of back and forth negotiations and we were able to reach an agreement for Andy Taylor to come in as our new left back. Adding just two players had drained our transfer kitty for the entire season. Here's to hoping for some injury luck this year.

          Transfers Out

ST, Marcus Tudgay, England, 32 yrs old, 63 OVR - £275,000 to Rochdale AFC
CDM, Gael Bigirimana, Burundi, 21 yrs old, 65 OVR - One year loan to Yeovil Town
CM, Ben Stevenson, England, 18 yrs old, 57 OVR - Two year loan to Yeovil Town
ST, George Thomas, England, 18 yrs old, 55 OVR - Two year loan to Northampton Town

          Transfers In

LB, Andy Taylor, England, 29 yrs old, 66 OVR - £350,000 from Walsall FC
GK, Jayson Leutwiler, Switzerland, 26 yrs old, 64 OVR - £375,000 from Shrewsbury Town

So this is the first update, let me know what you guys think. I know I went into further detail that I have in the past so I'm hoping for some feedback. I wanted to put a bigger focus on the tactics in this one since I know we all enjoy a good tactics discussion. If this was too much feel free to say that as well, all feedback is welcome.

In the Globetrotter CM, a move to what leagues would be considered a step up? Which leagues would be more a lateral move? I'm trying to avoid the latter.

I think aside from the obvious big leagues I would put Netherlands, Portugal, and maybe Belgium as a step up. Any of the other remaining European leagues would probably be lateral at best.

Nottingham Forest promoted to Barclays PL

Nottingham Forest have clinched the SkyBet Championship title, and with it, promotion to the Barclays Premier League for the 2016-17 season.

Powered by Michail Antonio's assists and Lars Veldwijk's goals, the Midlands side has dominated league proceedings since the start of the season.

Additionally, Forest have defeated the likes of Manchester United and Everton to secure an improbable place in the 2016 FA Cup final against Chelsea. A victory at Wembley would secure the club's first major silverware since 1990, as well as Europa League football for next season.

                  SEASON RECAP

                  That went well.

                  SkyBet Championship

We dominated the league from the first month. I think we went top of the table after our third or fourth match, and we never let go of that. It was a free-scoring season, so we also shipped more goals than I'd have liked, but no issues when the boys perform like this. We scored over 100 goals in the league, which is a freedom we won't be enjoying next season, so it's crucial to recognise that this isn't the sort of thing we should get used to.

                  Capital One Cup

There's not much to say here. We had one thumping win over Rotherham and promptly lost to Manchester City in the next game. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as we were able to rack up the points in the league thanks to the lowered fixture load. A loss that turned out to be a win!

                  FA Cup

'Magical' is the only way to describe this cup run. The first few wins were pretty routine, but when we came up against Manchester United, there was a buzz about the club. We were pulverising teams left and right. Could we stand up to a Premier League side? Well, the 3-1 scoreline flattered us. We didn't dominate United by any means, but we were rigid and clinical. When they made mistakes, we pounced and punished. But we were by no means the better side. Against Everton, it was another story. A combination of us playing at our peak and Everton's players failing to reach anything near theirs meant we totally dominated the game. If anything, we could have had two or three more goals. It felt great taking the fans to Wembley, but even better knowing we'd be back. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be. Chelsea showed us why they had the Premier League wrapped up by April, coming back from one down to beat us in extra time and lift another shiny trophy.

                  Transfers

While we were far and away the best team in the division all season, it was only after the January transfer window that we really hit top gear. And the moves we made were directly related to this upturn in performance. Matt Targett came straight into the first team, allowing Chris Cohen to go back into midfield. Callum Paterson proved to be an astute buy, filling in for Eric Lichaj whenever necessary and doing a good job. But the signing of Curtis Davies, where we splashed out on a player who could have been had for nothing in the summer, gave us the ability to resist opposition attacks with greater tenacity and nous than ever before. We also offloaded some extra weight to free up funds that proved quite useful (more on that later).

                  Key Players

Lars Veldwijk was top scorer for club and in the league, with 27 goals in 32 appearances. He dominated most teams with ease but struggled against defences that were able to negate his lack of pace, including the three Premier League sides we faced in the FA Cup. He only managed one goal in those three games, despite which Everton still managed to nullify his threat for most of the 90 minutes. I have doubts about whether Lars' prolific scoring will carry over to the Premier League and eventually, Europe.

Michail Antonio was our best player by a considerable distance. His skill on the ball, combined with ferocious pace and physical presence, proved to be invaluable. Michail laid on 20 assists in the league, as well as scoring 11 goals, and was the foundation of our run to the FA Cup final with 7 goals in the competition, including against Manchester United, Everton and Chelsea in the final. I expect we could get around £14-16 million if we wanted to sell him, but no one else in the squad is better suited to the demands of the Premier League, so it'd be foolish to let him go. Still, you never know.

Henri Lansbury captained us to a great season. On the way, he scored 14 goals (many of them from spot kicks) and created 8 more, but his tireless running in midfield and leadership were crucial. He was also a major reason I was able to give Ben Osborn 34 appearances in all competitions, as he did the work of two men when the youngster was still coming to terms with the demands of first-team football. Henri now has a chance to prove his talent at the highest level, several years after being discarded by Arsenal.

Britt Assombalonga didn't start out very well, and at one point in the middle of October, I was truly considering selling him in the January window. But he took his chances and proved me wrong, scoring 13 goals and developing into a more agile forward who can play across the forward line. Should it come to pass that Veldwijk isn't Premier League material, it's good to know I have his replacement ready, willing and able to get going from day one.

Dorus de Vries played way above his level. Despite keeping just 9 clean sheets in 46 appearances, the Dutch goalkeeper was a vital force in our run to the title and promotion. He was also immense against Manchester United and Everton in the FA Cup, ensuring that what little sniff of goal Romelu Lukaku got was quickly smothered out. He's been great, but we will need someone a little more talented for the challenges of the Premier League.

Matt Targett is the standout defensive talent in this team, despite being only 20 years old and having joined us in January. While I trust the likes of Michael Mancienne, Curtis Davies, Eric Lichaj and Jack Hobbs to do a good job, I know that Matt can add that extra something. His goal against Preston North End towards the business end of the season was a stunner, and if we see more of that in the Premier League, there's no reason we can't start drawing parallels with another former Southampton left back.

Chris Burke and Chris Cohen were both solid players who turned up when needed. Same goes for Kyle Ebicilio, who's going back to FC Twente at the end of his loan spell, but neither inspired awe or confidence of the highest degree. Jamie and Callum Paterson both played well, but have a great deal to prove before they can lay claim to starting berths in their respective positions. Jamie Ward played incredibly in bursts, but his inconsistency means I may not be able to depend on him the way I want to. However, Tyler Walker is coming along very nicely in his development, and with 8 goals in 17 appearances, is on the way to becoming a legend for club and country, like his father Des Walker of Italia 90 fame.

Robert Tesche, Andy Reid, David Vaughan, Roger Riera, Kelvin Wilson, Daniel Fox and Josh Rees are all out of contract in the summer and will be released by the club. Some have been good servants. Others less so. We move on.

                  Contracts

Tyler Walker and Ben Osborn have been rewarded for their progress with four-year contracts worth £10,000 per week. Henri Lansbury has signed a four-year deal that sees him become the club's best-paid player at £50,000 per week. That may change when we open discussions with Michail Antonio next week, with his demands in the £60,000 per week range. Also in line for new contracts are Jamie Paterson and our young left back Daniel Pinillos.

                  Premier League

If we think we're going to go out and score 100+ goals against some of the world's most physical teams, we're in for a rude shock. The days of winning our games 4-1 are done. Sure, we may be on the right end of an occasional trouncing, but we're going to have to be a lot more intelligent. We retain the continent's deadliest counter-attacking threat in Michail Antonio and an inspirational leader in Henri Lansbury. The key is to build a team around the pair so that they can flourish, and the rest of the squad with them.

I expect no less than £15 million to mount a comfortable charge on one of the mid-table spots. I can supplement this by selling a few of our existing squad. I definitely want to keep Michail Antonio, but a bid of £16 million or more from one of Europe's elite might be a little too much for both club and player to turn down, especially when similar talent can be had for much less and shaped into a threat of equal or similar talent and danger.

I know you guys have been waiting a while and this was quite a long post, so thank you for reading! Any questions or comments from you guys will be addressed in a pre-season press conference!

Veldwijk is pretty amazing. All that goalscoring brought his finishing up to 77 and his heading accuracy to 82, and he's 6'4" with 78 jumping and 94 strength. Maybe he wouldn't be too bad in the Premier League. And the superstar I have in mind... well, let's just say he'd love another chance to show English fans what he can do.

Thanks everyone for all of their votes on who my next CM team should be. I'll share the results here shortly. In the mean time...

@indiblue: Congrats on a great season! Winning the Championship and making it to Wembley for a trophy is not too shabby. Not sure I've ever seen a full season in one post, but it surprisingly wasn't too bad

@texasbum: Love the new format with the Starting XIs for each match. Armstrong is an absolute beast in FIFA and I have to imagine he will be your first choice striker for a long time (barring you have him full-time and not on loan from Newcastle of course).

@cabee: Crazy game vs. Exeter! Those are some super stacked rosters, geez.

@vrabbit: Goals, goals, goals. Also looks like I spoke too soon about Spurs as Braga went in and beat them to advance, even with a -5 goal differential. We all know how FIFA loves advancing BPL teams in the international club tournaments, so I figured that was a sure thing.

                                None

We only conceded 2 goals on the month, but I can't give goalkeeper Dinu Moldovan the award as he had a horrible lapse in judgement against Cagliari that ultimately cost us the match. As far as goal scoring, 2 goals in 5 matches is unacceptable. Overall, no one stood out and was deserving of recognition for March.

                                Manager's Thoughts
The goals really dried up for us in March as we only scored 3 times in 5 matches (and one of those was an own goal). I wasn't upset about the 0-0 draw with Genoa in the TIM Cup as we played very conservative and got the desired passage through to the final. The Trapani and Cagliari games were extremely frustrating. We dominated Trapani as they sat back not even trying to score and blocked almost every shot we took by packing the box with defenders. Cagliari got a lucky goal from Davide Di Gennaro on a terrible mistake by Dinu Moldovan and then finished us off in the 90th minute. Now our league lead has been cut to 4 points on both Cagliari and Pescara, though we still are well-ahead of 4th place Como.

                                4/2 - vs Salernitana
                                4/9 - at Virtus Lanciano
                                4/16 - vs Bari
                                4/23 - at Como
                                4/30 - vs Pescara

April sees us with big contests against 4th place Como and 3rd place Pescara. We really need to get our confidence back in the first three matches against mediocre sides Salernitana, Virtus Lanciano, and Bari. I think we can handle Como on the road if we can manager to break down their star goalkeeper Simone Scuffet who is on loan from Udinese. Last time we played them, he was in outstanding form, so that won't be easy. Finally, I hope we still remember blowing a 2-0 lead to Pescara and settling for a draw. That should be motivation for a win.
