I didn't really comment on the Bochum CM because I expected you to start posting your new CM soon

Welp vrabbit, I just gave Comley a start for a cup match and he scored the winner at the end of the game after making a tackle and taking it the rest of the way himself.

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

We Try. We Fail. We Win.

            October 2016

            Hertha BSC 1 - 0 Hamburger SV
            Skjelbred 39'

This was quite an even game, but a goal by ex-HSV Per Skjelbred was enough to get us the three points. The team played well and Hamburg were not able to get many chances to equalise.

            Borussia Dortmund 0 - 0 Hertha BSC

The final score really doesn't indicate how the game went, as Borussia Dortmund were able to get only a single shot off. Nonetheless, a draw against title-contending Dortmund team is always a very good result.

            Hertha BSC 1 - 0 1. FC Köln
            Schieber 76' pen

Before this game is when I started to really play around with sliders as our previous draw with Dortmund felt too easy.

            Round of 32
            Hertha BSC 1 - 2 TSG Hoffenheim
            Stocker 55'
            Kaderabek 8', Vargas 82'

Unfortunately our defence and keeper had an awful game, and it ultimately cost us the game and a spot in the round of 16. Hoffenheim were clinical from their chances, but Rune Jarstein in goal should've done better in both goals, both of which were from relatively long distances. Shame.

            TSG Hoffenheim 1 - 1 Hertha BSC
            Polanski 10'
            Ibisevic 23' pen

In Hertha's last three games (this one, the cup game above and a game last season irl) we have failed to beat Hoffenheim, and it could be said that they are becoming our bogey team. To make matters worse, two of our key players got injured in this game.

Vladimir Darida will be out for 3 months.
Mitchell Weiser has been ruled out for 3 weeks.

            November 2016

            Hertha BSC 0 - 3 Borussia Mönchengladbach
            Dahoud 58', Herrmann 83', Raffael 90'

It has been three years since we last beat Borussia Mönchengladbach, and that time period will be even longer next time we face them. Borussia outplayed us in every way possible, and they deserved the win. Hopefully we at least manage to put up a fight next time.

            FC Augsburg 0 - 1 Hertha BSC
            Brooks 22'

            Hertha BSC 0 - 2 Mainz 05
            Muto 42' pen, Malli 90'

A fellow Europa League spot candidates Mainz performed very well in order to beat us in front of our home supporters. Yoshinori Muto put them into the lead from the penalty spot, and Yunus Malli finished the second goal of the night in stoppage time from a counter attack.

            December 2016

            VfL Wolfsburg 1 - 0 Hertha BSC
            Gomez 84'

We did not deserve to lose this game, least of all in the way we did. Rune Jarstein got his hand onto the ball and the ball was boucing to go a little wide of the post, but John Brooks slid in to clear it... right into Mario Gomez's head. The German striker then simply headed the ball into the net. Very disappointing.

            Hertha BSC 2 - 0 Werder Bremen
            Ibisevic 73', 87' pen

I can't remember the last time we scored two goals in a game (it was in the first match of September, or 14 games ago), but this win came at the right time. Our captain Vedad Ibisevic showed that he has still got his scoring instinct as he netted a brace.

            RB Leipzig 0 - 0 Hertha BSC

            Hertha BSC 1 - 0 SV Darmstadt
            Ibisevic 53'

A hard-fought but well deserved win, in which we had 13 shots in total, is a good way to end the hinrunde, or opening half of the Bundesliga season. We will continue the season after a month's break with an away game against league-leaders Leverkusen.

            Bundesliga Table

            1. Bayer Leverkusen, 33 pts (game in hand)
            2. Hertha BSC, 33 pts
            3. VfL Wolfsburg, 31 pts
            4. FC Schalke 04, 28 pts
            5. Borussia Mönchengladbach, 27 pts
            6. Bayern München, 26 pts
            ------------------------------------------
            16. SV Darmstadt, 14 pts
            17. RB Leipzig, 13 pts
            18. SC Freiburg, 4 pts

            My Thoughts

            Form -
After I started adjusting sliders, we picked up a few draws, a few losses and a few wins. We haven't been consistent in our results, but on the other hand, we have been consistent when it comes to scoring low amounts of goals. We are creating chances, but we are failing to put them away. Hopefully Vladimir Darida will magically fix this issue when he comes back from his injury. In spite of our scoring problems, Vedad Ibisevic has netted 8 league goals and he is third in the scoring chart.

In contrast, our defence has been in top form and we have conceded the least amount of goals in the league. Furthermore, our keeper Rune Jarstein has kept the most clean sheets in the league with 11 of them.

Player Performances - As mentioned above, Ibisevic and all of our defenders have been very good this season. Rune Jarstein with his 11 clean sheets, though, has let some mediocre shots get past him but he has still been decent in goal. Our starting wingers Genki Haraguchi and Mitchell Weiser have been in very good form, picking 4 and 3 assists, respectively.

When it comes to worse performances, our holding midfield duo of Lustenberger and Skjelbred have their ups and downs, as does our starting-due-to-injury attacking midfielder Valentin Stocker. Salomon Kalou, and it hurts my heart to say this, has been the biggest disappointment of the team. He hasn't scored or assisted a single goal, and often he doesn't do anything remarkable.

Transfer Window - I'm still looking to sell our only remaining deadwood player Sami Allagui, who might leave on a free as he has six months of his contract left. I might try to sign some young striker, too, to be our future starting attacker. The board still wants me to sign a starting striker, but I'm not sure if I should do that as I don't feel the need for that.

Thank you for reading this post! I hope you have enjoyed it! Any feedback or suggestions will be appreciated!

              The Roster
              Spoiler

              Starting XI (4-1-2-1-2)

              Domínguez (72)

              Diks (76)/Andersen (77)/Katsikas (C, 75)/Aké (75)

              Ebecilio (78)

              Nangis (79) --------------- González (79)

              Añor (77)

              Veldwijk (76) ------- Olaitan (72)

              ______________________________

              League Match 21
FC Twente - SC Cambuur (0-2)
              Pereira 23'
              El Baad 30'
              Veldwijk 41'
Diks 25' (Bruised shoulder, 5 days)

The struggle it this feeling that I'm becoming immune to these blunders. All season long we've been trying to be contenders but every now and then we'll drop a game like this against a pretender - at home, which is even worse. We created a good number of scoring opportunities (8 shots, 5 on goal) but were unable to be anywhere as efficient as the visitors who scored twice on three shots on target.

              League Match 22
SC Heerenveen - FC Twente (1-1)
              Nangis 35' (González)
              Slagveer 45+'
Veldwijk 55' (Sprained knee, 4 weeks)
Katsikas 78' (Sprained knee, 4 weeks)

Tough draw here as we were unable to create a bit of distance against one of the clubs on our tails and we also lose two key starter for about a month. Michael Olaitan did a fine job filling in for Torgeir Børven when the Norwegian striker was injured in November and we hope he can keep form these next few weeks, while Peet Bijen did an ok job filling in for Joachim Andersen so hopefully that experience will help him while filling in for Katsikas this time around.

              League Match 23
FC Twente - ADO Den Haag (4-0)
              Olaitan 45+' (Aké)
              Olaitan 60'
              González 79' (Aké)
              Olaitan 90+' (Tapia)

Michael Olaitan made a statement by scoring a hat-trick to lead us to a comfortable victory against The Hague, the sort of performance we should had have against Cambuur. Olaitan was highly active throughout this game, determined to make a good impression on me and his teammates. Derlis González rounded up the scoring by taking a pass from Nathan Aké on the left side of the midfield then dribbling all the way to the top-center of the box where he unleashed an unstoppable shot to the keeper's right side. ADO didn't make themselves any favors by playing awful defense throughout the game (we had 15 shots, 10 on target) and being nearly non-existent on offense (3 shots, 1 on target).

Olaitan, not surprisingly, finished as the Man of the Match with a 9.2 rating.

              League Match 24
FC Twente - PEC Zwolle (2-0)
              Nangis 49' (pen)
              Olaitan 63' (Eghan)

Zwolle are hands down the worst team in the league and with the first leg of the the UEL Round of 32 against Fiorentina looming I took the opportunity to play a number of subs in this game, including the debut of academy product Phillipp Kübler who had a solid game. Olaitan continued his hot streak finishing a play started with a through pass from Shadrach Eghan who was very active in the passing game.

Euro League - Round of 32, 1st Leg
              FC Twente - Fiorentina (1-1)
              Olaitan 33' (Juanpi)
              Bernardeschi 45'

Andersen made a costly mistake near the end of the half, trying to clear out the ball at the back line to avoid a corner kick for Fiorentina but instead getting the ball to Federico Bernardeschi as he ran into the box who didn't miss 1-on-1 vs Alexander Domínguez to score a very important away goal for the Italian club. Lenny Nangis, taking over PL duties during Veldwijk's absence, had his penalty kick saved in the 25th minute. Luckily for us Olaitan stepped up once again off a corner kick with an unstoppable crossing shot from the top of the box to give us the early lead and ultimately some confidence heading into the second leg.

              League Match 25
FC Twente - FC Groningen (3-3)
              Nangis 25' (pen)
              Børven 53' (Olaitan)

              Linssen 61'
              Castillo 66'
              Castillo 76'
              González 88' (Da Cruz)

If that's the last we ever see of Nicolás Castillo I won't complain. I don't even have a proper scouting report on him but I can tell you for certain he has a killer header, to the point that towards the end of the game I was legitimately worried any time the ball was crossed into the box in his direction. With this result Groningen managed to draw both games against this season and not surprisingly it was Castillo who also scored for them in the 1-1 draw that played out back in December. It took us putting all 11 of our shots on target in this game to just manage a draw.

Euro League - Round of 32, 2nd Leg
              Fiorentina - FC Twente (1-2, 2-3 agg)
              Nangis 23' (pen)
              Gomez 60'
              Juanpi 80'
González 37' (Sprained ankle, 3 weeks)

Juanpi Añor stole the ball from Nenad Tomović about 30 yards from the Fiorentina goal, dribbled all the way near the penalty strike, then the left-footed attacking midfielder finessed the ball past Ciprian Tătăruşanu with his right foot to give us a late lead that was all but insurmountable at that point. That goal gave us the edge on away goals and at that point Fiorentina needed to win the aggregate score which meant scoring twice in the last 10+ minutes of the game. Now I've seen crazier things happen so it was still a very stressful end to the game but we held our ground to close it out and move on to the Round of 16!

Review: The first thing that comes to mind when looking at the standings is that if we had won against Cambuur like we should had instead of losing we'd be on the verge of overtaking Vitesse for 2nd place in the standings and a shot at Champions League next season. I really want to avoid an end of the season review in which I cry about missed opportunities keeping us out of the CL next season. At this point it's all but a foregone conclusion that Ajax is going to win the league title, they're not slowing down and won all four of their games this month, so the best we can hope for is that 2nd place finish and I'm going to be pretty disappointed if we don't achieve that regardless of the injury crisis we're going through. That being said, I'm also very pleased that we've been able to move in the UEL despite missing Veldwijk and our skipper Katsikas. Both of them should be back a week into March at the latest. Fiorentina proved a tough test and there was a bit ghost-battling there for me after a tough out against Napoli last season. As you can see we'll continue to fly into Italy as Lazio will be our next opponent in the Round of 16 and while I'd like to say they'll be our toughest test yet that would be a bit of a diss towards Tottenham who gave us hell in the group stage. I guess what I'm saying is, if we were able to play Tottenham tough then we feel battle-tested with a couple of games vs Lazio in the horizon.

A special mention has to go to Olaitan who stepped up BIG for us in Veldwijk's absence, to the point that now that the Dutch striker is back from injury I have decided to keep Olaitan in the lineup next to him. I'm going with my gut here, but I feel as though I have to keep the Nigerian in the lineup while he's on a hot streak. Børven, who had a big first half for us this season, becomes our main sub at the striker position by no fault of his own and I hope he'll be a team player about this decision.

Our scouts remain in Belgium, Germany, and Netherlands although at this time there have been no additions to the academy since it's actually full. There may be some promotions this coming month which may clear up some spots for more prospects.

RW - Luciano Wildschut (65 OVR, 92-94 POT): This 15-year old from the Netherlands is unanimously our top prospect and the envy of several clubs not just locally but around Europe. His pace (80acc/70spd) and agility (77) are eye-popping for his age and he has looked great so far in the academy. We're hopeful he'll meet the hype.

CAM - Jeroen Claes (64 OVR, 87-93): This Belgian prospect recently turned 18 and may get bumped to the senior roster in the next few days. After Wildschut he is our second highest rated prospect in the academy. He's considered a "playmaker" who has the ability to put good curve (77) on the ball and has good vision (70) which we hope can help him become a great passer from this position.

LB - Timo Behrens (58 OVR, 84-94): This 17-year old from Germany is a welcomed addition to the academy, immediately becoming our best fullback prospect. Standing at 6'1" and 165lbs, Behrens is described as "physically strong" and that is highlighted by his aggression (85), jumping (79), and strength (78). He also possesses the stamina (71) to be a starter in the future.

CM - Stephen Schoofs (53 OVR, 79-93): 17-year old from Belgium described as a "playmaker". He's a bit too short (5'6") for my preference at the position but hopefully once he develops his skill set he'll make up for the lack of height.

LW - Roy Verrips (51 OVR, 79-89): 16-year old attacking winger from the Netherlands flashing pace (75acc/73spd). We're very excited about his potential and he joins a good crop of local talent whose development will be interesting to watch.

RW - Nathaniel Drost (58 OVR, 79-85): Now a 16-year old from the Netherlands flashing outstanding pace (77spd/80acc) and agility (78) for his age. We're very excited local talent like him signed with our academy.

CB - Rico Kehrer (56 OVR, 78-84): Now a 16-year old from Germany joining a pipeline of centre backs from that country in our academy. He's up to 5'5" and 152lbs and continues to be considered physically strong. He's an aggressive (83) defender.

RM - Mohamed Mühren (54 OVR, 76-94): This 16-year old from the Netherlands has gotten coaches' attention in the academy, displaying more potential than initially assessed. He has very good pace (74spd/73acc), agility (73) and balance (73), a combination our coaches will try to continue to develop as well as other aspects of his game in hopes of finding a true diamond in the rough.

RW - Mauro Pröpper (53 OVR, 74-88): 15-year old from the Netherlands who is displaying very good agility (76) at a very young age to go with promising pace (72acc/67spd).

RM - Jens Schuermans (56 OVR, 76-82): 15-year old from Belgium described as a playmaker. He's only 4'8", 116lbs at the moment but he's crazy agile (76) for someone his age. He flashes some nice potential.

LB - Jules Claeys (46 OVR, 77-83): 16-year old from Belgium who was our first prospect at the fullback position since my arrival. He's raw so he'll need time in the academy but I'm hopeful he'll develop quickly.

CDM - Denis Buysse (46 OVR, 76-82): 17-year old from Belgium described as "playmaker" who is very raw at the moment but offers solid potential. Academy trainers will need to develop him quickly early on.

GK - Nill Oulare (52 OVR, 74-82): This 15-year old from Belgium becomes our first goalkeeper prospect in the academy since my arrival. The youth coaches are excited to work with him to better gauge his potential.

LW - Joris Peters (55 OVR, 75-81): 17-year old from the Netherlands with a good first step (77 acc) who will want to immerse himself into the academy for at least one full season to properly develop his skill set.

CDM - Michael Kabasele (47 OVR, 75-81): 17-year old from Belgium who currently projects as more a future backup. Doesn't possess ideal size (5'6", 143lbs) for the position but also doesn't have the speed to play out wide.

CDM - Daniel Yabo (61 OVR, 73-79): 16-year old from Germany described as defensive minded. His defensive skills are actually pretty advanced for someone his age and his stamina is already good enough to at least play in a backup role so he's set to be a contributor for the club well before his 18th birthday.

                BURTON ALBION HIRE NEW MANAGER

Just after being promoted to the Championship for the first time in club history Burton Albion have brought on Charles Ergen, an almost completely unknown manager from the United States. Former man in charge, Nigel Clough, had to step down due to health reasons despite the successes he has had at the club. When Mr. Ergen was asked if there would be a lot of changes his answer was, "This club has had a lot of success recently moving up the divisions, but if you want to continue being successful you have adapt otherwise everyone else catches up and you get left behind." Not many people know what to expect from the new manager and it will be worth keeping an eye on to see how he does.

                    Season 1

                    The Mariners

                    September 2016

                    Grimsby Town 3 - 2 Morecambe
                    GRI - Vernon 28' (PEN), 81', Chambers 45'
                    MOR - Dunn 24', Stockton 30'
                    MOTM: Vernon

It looked like our horrid defense was going to cost us again, but the attack came through this time with an outstanding performance to bag us 3 goals and all 3 points. Bogle was a monster up front against their back line, and he drew the foul for our first goal off the penalty, had the ball knocked away from him while attacking that fell straight to Chambers for our second goal, and then threaded the ball through up the middle for Vernon to score his second and the winner later in the game. The pairing up front between those two is really starting to click and I am hoping it is time for them to put this league on notice.

                    Barnet 2 - 3 Grimsby Town
                    BAR - Akpa Akpro 10', 45'
                    GRI - Vernon 19', Boyce 43', Bogle 89'
                    MOTM: Davies

If we could just clean up the mistakes in the back then we would be steamrolling the competition right now. They scored two goals, both times taking advantage of Andrews poor tackling attempts and made him pay for his mistakes. Our attack saved the day though. Chambers lead us on a quick counter that resulted in Bogle setting up Vernon for our first. Boyce then headed in a second off of a corner. And just before the final whistle, Bogle was able to just barely beat a defender to Wright's cross and he headed it down into the ground under the keeper's reach and it bounced slowly into the net. It's clear that maybe some personnel changes are needed on the back line, we will have to evaluate what our options are moving forward.

                    Grimsby Town 3 - 2 Accrington Stanley
                    GRI - Berrett 37', Davies 66', Pearson 88' (OG)
                    ACC - O'Sullivan 26', 74'
                    MOTM: Davies

Apparently we should just allow 2 goals in every game because that seems to be our good luck charm. We had a few different faces out there for this one, but the result was the same. We allowed 2 cheap goals to O'Sullivan, and then scored a last minute winner. Berrett opened it up for us off of a cross from Wright, and then Davies followed that up with a fantastic free kick from the left side of the goal. At the end, Tuton came on and went straight at their back line and forced the keeper to make a save, and the ball rolled around until Pearson messed up his clearance and sent it into the goal. I guess we will take the 3 points no matter how we get them.

                    Luton Town 1 - 2 Grimsby Town
                    LUT - McQuoid 80'
                    GRI - Disley 16', Chambers 84'
                    MOTM: Chambers

A solid performance this time, and we took down a familiar opponent that we knew from previous years in non-league football. Disley opened us up after Vernon tracked down a loose ball off of a corner and crossed it on for him to clean up easily. We held strong for most of the game, but a really poor give away allowed them to find an equalizer late in the game to put the pressure back on us. Bolarinwa pushed forward down the right wing and his cross was pushed away by the keeper but Chambers picked it up at the edge of the box and fired it back into the goal while the keeper was still recovering. The bright side was that at least we didn't have to score 3 goals in order to get the win this time.

                    EFL Cup
                    Grimsby Town 0 - 3 Sunderland AFC
                    SUN - McNair 4', Defoe 26', Rodwell 90'
                    MOTM: Cattermole

The difference between a Premier League side and a 4th division team was on full display in this one. They were taller, stronger, faster, and more skilled than we were. They beat us down from the opening whistle and we weren't able to even register a shot on target in this one. Completely different class from these guys, but it gives us something to aspire to as we look to build ourselves up.

                    Grimsby Town 1 - 1 Carlisle United
                    GRI - Browne 41'
                    CAR - Jones 49'
                    MOTM: Miller

This one was about as evenly matched as they come. No side showed any kind of advantage in any aspect of the game, and each team walks away with what looked like a deserved 1 point a piece. We got on the board first with Vernon setting up Browne with the cross just before half. Then not long after the half they found the answer after we failed to clear a ball off of a corner and they were able to send a second cross in that found an unmarked man for the easy header. Silly mistakes are what have been killing us, and they continue to look like they are going to be a huge problem.

In what has come to many as a shock, Rafa Benitez has extended his contract with Newcastle United for the foreseeable future. Despite being unable to help the club climb out of a massive hole during the 2015-16 campaign, Benitez has reinvigorated the Newcastle faithful. Heading into the club's just second appearance since 1991 outside of top-flight English football, Benitez cited that he felt the love and passion from the fanbase, and was excited to help build the club back up to English, and European, prestige.

In the mean time, Benitez has already been working hard in the transfer market. Highlighted by Belgian GK Matz Sels and former Bournemouth midfielder Matt Ritchie, the club has already brought twelve new players into the fold for the coming Championship season. The early focus on youth and potential has caused the board to ante up, and with still around €25 million to work with for the summer transfer window, Benitez is sure to focus on depth and quality. The goal at Newcastle this year for the man better know as simply Rafa is not just to gain promotion back to the Premier League, but to build a roster now that can compete with England's best.

                            Transfers Out

Sami Allagui, 71 Ovr, Right Midfielder, 30 Years Old,
                            Bosman transfer to FC Kaiserslautern

The 30-year-old Tunisian attacking player had made only one appearance for us this season, and we were looking to sell him. As he had only half a year left on his contract, second-tier Kaiserslautern decided to sign him for free at the end of the season.

                            Transfers In

                            Max Christiansen

71 Ovr, Defensive Midfielder, 20 Years Old, Germany

                            €2,200,000

Hertha BSC snatched up defensive midfielder Max Christiansen from second-bottom FC Ingolstadt
on deadline day. The 20-year-old German defensive midfielder became Hertha's second midfield addition of the season after the Berliners signed Dominik Kohr in the summer. One of Hertha's starting defensive midfielders, Fabian Lustenberger, got injured in January and Christiansen was likely signed for squad depth.

                            Haris Seferovic

77 Ovr, Striker, 24 Years Old, Switzerland

                            Bosman Transfer

One issue Hertha BSC were having was that they didn't have young attackers, but with the signing of Haris Seferovic they fixed it. The 24-year-old Swiss international will join his compatriots Fabian Lustenberger and Valentin Stocker in Berlin at the end of the season when his contract with Eintracht Frankfurt runs out. Seferovic is a physical striker, but his finishing hasn't been up to par over the last season. His new side Hertha will hope that this will change next season.

                            Bayer Leverkusen 0 - 0 Hertha BSC

This game between first-placed Leverkusen and second-placed us was very even and neither side was much better than the other. I'd say a draw was a fair result.

Fabian Lustenberger broke his toe and will be out for 2 months.

                            SC Freiburg 0 - 2 Hertha BSC
                            Ibisevic 41', 85'

A routine win against bottom-of-the-table Freiburg is everything we expected from this game. Vedad Ibisevic netted his 9th and 10th goal of the season.

                            FC Schalke 04 0 - 0 Hertha BSC

An even game between two top six sides. Schalke's defenders, especially Naldo, had an outstanding game, breaking several of our attacks. A point and a clean sheet are fine things to take home with us.

                            Vidal 58'

Surprisingly, we had more possession than Bayern (56% to 44%) but other than that the reigning champions were better than us. The only goal of the match came in the 58th minute, when Arturo Vidal unleashed a powerful low shot from outside the box which made its way into the bottom right corner.

                            My Thoughts

                            Transfers -
Allagui was dead wood and I'm glad he will be gone soon. Christiansen was brought in for squad depth and to possibly become a starter in the future as both of our starting holding midfielders are aging, and Seferovic was signed because our starting striker Ibisevic is getting older and we need a younger option up front.

Form - I'm irritated because we are losing to teams we should be beating and nearly beating teams we should be losing to. I have no clue why, but teams like Schalke and Dortmund are easier to play against than the likes of HSV and Eintracht Frankfurt.

Our defence has continued from where it left off before the winter break, and we have conceded the least amount of goals in the league by a large margin. On the opposite side of the pitch, our attack has its on and off days. We have been lacking that clinical final touch, though, which can be very costly.

League Table - We have finally began our descent towards Europa League places, and I'm very happy about this! Now I'm just hoping that results of the other teams don't go our way so that we can drop down a couple more places. Again, this is a good thing as I don't want to play Champions League football in my second season in charge. It would just be way too unrealistic and I wouldn't enjoy it.

Youth Academy - Three scouts were dispatched to Switzerland, Germany and Belgium in the autumn. At the moment we have five players in our academy, all of whom who have potentials ranging from 78 to 91. Unfortunately I forgot to write their details down, so I'll do that in the next update.Sorry about that.

Next update will be the end of the season update with April and May in it.

Thank you for reading this post! I hope you have enjoyed it! Any feedback or suggestions will be appreciated!
