Relatively, but I've always found Dier, especially between 85 and 90 overall to be more than capable of catching players. Maybe not the likes of Aubameyang but still... Also, with quick full-backs they can provide great cover

Have to admit I was thinking more of an immediate effect opposed to down the line.

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

Just started a career with my favorite club Arsenal. The budget is only $39.5 million and because the budget is rumored to be over $100 million this summer I decided to create a 22 year old striker (87 overall) to recoup those funds. I also made some player edits before hand as I think these players deserve higher ratings.
Ramsey 82-->84 (Top 3 central mid in the BPL along with Toure and Gerrard)
Podolski 77-->80 (perhaps a bit high but he's a clinical finisher and ended the year well)
Mertesacker and Koscielny 82-->83 (best CB combo in the BPL other than Cahill-Terry nuff said)
Giroud 79-->80 (maybe not world class but definitely an 80 player)
So after selling my striker hopefully the budget will balloon to about $100 million and we can get a nice little buying spree going! I'm trying to stick to the real life rumoured Arsenal transfers but may add a player or two that I fancy. So far my shortlist is:
Loic Remy (only on here because of the real life link obviousley can't add a loaned player in game)
          Mario Madzukic
          Jackson Martinez
          Serge Aurier
          Mattias Ginter
          Neven Subotic
          Julian Draxler
Sven Bender (I know this was shot down irl but I might pursue it anyway)
          Alexis Sanchez
          Javi Martinez

Any and all thoughts from you will be considered especially when it comes to players worth going for, whether linked in real life or not! Thanks

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

So I have sorta prioritized my transfers, this is the order I am probably gonna do rn
            1. ST: Mandzukic/Benzema/Bathshuayi
            2. CB: Subotic/Javi Martinez/Leandro Castan
            3. Alexis Sanchez/Carlos Vela
            4. RB Aurier/Danilo/Mario Fernandes (I know Aurier has a very strong link irl but as he is a RM in game right now I may go for Danilo from Porto or Fernandes because I don't like playing players out of position in the long term)
            5. Mattias Ginter (only if I decide to sell Vermaelen)
            6. perhaps a young cdm to replace Arteta eventually

Vela's been rumoured seeing we have the buy back clause of 3.5mil. Also, Reus, not linked but would be a good asset to Arsenal and us gooners want to see him play for us (most likely not gonna happen though). Balotelli has also been linked with us because of the puma deal. Drmic too (although sold to Leverkusen). Insigne has been linked through us through the italian press. Morgan Schneiderlin is a possible target too. Benzema might be an arsenal target. Batshuayi has been linked with us before, he has a high ceiling in the game.

Thanks for the input! Don't think I'll go for Reus or Balotelli (don't really fancy
Super Mario tbh). I heard Drmic has been sold so I wasn't gonna go for him. Batshuayi is also a link I heard and I may bring him in as a 3rd option at ST. I like Insigne but if I were to bring back Vela or bring in Sanchez I think that's a no go. And I should target Benzema too I forgot him and I may drop Dzeko and Jackson Martinez as targets (Dzeko won't be sold to a premier league team if at all). Thanks!

                    Here is my input:
Definitely sign either Mandzukic or Jackson Martinez. They are both linked and very good in game. Personally I prefer Jackson Martinez in career mode.

Definitely get a new right back, Aurier would be fantastic. His position might say RM but he also can play RB so he isn't really playing out of position (it's like playing a guy with CM as first choice position and CDM as second choice at CDM). He has a good potential and strongly linked sign him up.

Sign Carlos Vela. Arsenal would be stupid not to pay his buy back clause it is so cheap for such a great player. I think he will make the switch.

Definitely sell Vermaelen to get Ginter. He is a great young CB and definitely better than Vermaelen. Could even try and do a swap.

And finally sign Javi Martinez to play as a CDM (don't play him at CB only when necessary)

As for Neven Subotic you should wait a season or two he glitches out and becomes 90+ rated if playing for CPU

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

So, I posted I was going to start off a career as Dundee United because I wanted a club I could build to dominate their home league and become one of those European heavyweights that walks their own league, like Shaktar I guess, though better in Europe :P

Anyway, after decided I was putting in Rangers in place of Hearts I realised how pretty the Rangers strip is and that I'm from Glasgow so I just had to go with Rangers. I think I must be drawn to clubs on their way back up as I've done Portsmouth and Wimbledon careers in the past.

                      SUMMER SIGNINGS

                      IN:

                      Simone Scuffet, GK
                      £2,250,000
£18,500 per week, 5 year contact.
This kid has got to something special. At 17 he weighs in at 72 OVR with 82 GK reflexes and he's a decent height at 6'3. I know his wages ended up being extortionate but the next option down from that was a 22 year old who I reckon had an overall in the mid 60s. Overall I think this kid should prove a fantastic investment.

                      Iliya Milanov, CB
                      Free Agent
£3000 per week, 5 year contract.
Milanov is exactly the kind of centre back I love, young(21), fast and not too short. Pace on my centre backs has saved me from some near lethal counter-attacking in the past. I doubt I'll be winning any European Titles with Milanov but as a building block he is solid.

                      Hwang Seok Ho, CB
                      Free Agent
£3000 per week, 5 year contract.
As a utility player you can't ask for much more than someone who can play right across your back four. Seok Ho does exactly that, and with pace, decent passing stats and not too old at 24 I'm sure he'll be an excellent squad player of the future and coming season.

                      Pedro Azogue, CM
                      Free Agent
£1500 per week, 5 year contract.
As I set out I began playing a 4-1-2-1-2 formation and when playing this I always highly value the CDMs pace. Having pace in that position means they can track back quick to stop the counter and surge forward to fill gaps on the edge of the box or hold back 25 yards out as a give and go passing post for my wingers. Azogue fits this bill, with good pace (was a RM in FIFA 13 if I remember right), decent passing and only 18 he should fit the bill for a couple of seasons and also serve as a good squad player.

                      Jose Mario Somoza, CAM
                      Free Agent
£3000 per week, 5 year contract.
Somoza is what I would describe as a pest. He's fast, not short and tends to nick the ball in the opposition half. With a bit of open space he can take a decent shot at goal and always seems to be running forward, stretching the defence. My only qualm would be that he doesn't have any other positions listed and doesn't have the pace to really play wide or the finishing and heading to play as a striker so is really confined to that CAM role.

                      Juan Delgado, LW
                      £800,000
£8000 per week, 5 year contact.
Three days out from deadline day and I suddenly realised I had no pace on the wings. This wouldn't have been an issue if I was happy with the current system but my attempt at slow short passing play through the middle wasn't paying off and I was slipping down the table. So deadline day panic set in and I snagged Delgado hoping for some pace and power on the wing, the technicality to cut inside or the passing to pick out my strikers in the box.

                      Solly March, RW
                      £315,000
£4000 per week, 5 year contract.
Another deadline day signing to address my inability to change my play. I got him cheap as he only had 11 months left on this contract. Initially he doesn't seem to have the gleam of Delgado and looked like a squad player but on the field he handles the ball superbly, makes those back post runs and crosses a peach of a ball for my big guys.

                      Michael Rabustic, ST
                      £425,000
£4000 per week, 5 year contract.
I found Michael on the transfer list of Hellas Verona and if anything else bought him looking to make a quick buck come January. Coming £150,000 below his estimated worth I initially disregarded him for his lack of pace and noted him down as a squad player. Jesus was I wrong.

                      Anthony Martial, ST
                      Short Loan for AS Monaco
                      £1750 per week
I had wanted to buy martial from Monaco but they would not sell him as he had just joined so I've loaned him until the Jamuary window and then Inmay make another swoop for him. His stats show pace, strength, finishing and a 4 star weak foot, but has yet to really make the impact desired.

                      OUT:

                      Carlos Bocanegra, CB
                      £250,000
                      £10,000 per week, 5 year contract!!! (He's 34!)
This deal had already happened when I began the season but looking at his wages, age and lack of pace I would have listed him anyway.

                      Daniel Stoney, ST
                      £20,000
£1,500 per week, 4 year contract.
One of those young strikers every club seems to have laying around. No pace or ability of any kind, a highest stat of 59, had to go.

                      Jon Daly, ST
                      Season Loan to Sligo Rovers
                      £3,000 per week
Jon was the main striker for Rangers when I took over but his lack of pace or technical ability seemed to typify the 'hoof it up top' organisation of the club. Couldn't sell him as he had only just joined, so a loan at least got his wages off my books.

                      Andy Murdoch, CM
                      Season Loan to Morecambe
                      £1,500 per week
Andy could potentially come up to squad player level but would have to improve substantially on his loan this season. His contact is up at the end of the year so if he hasn't improved his contract will not be renewed.

So, I'll finish up the match reports and other notes later on and will post them up soon, let me know what you think!

How the squad looks like after the third season
                        GKs – ter Stegen (80), Vermeer (83), Martin Costa (18 y.o. regen, 69), van der Hart (65)
                        RBs – Danilo (84), van Rhijn (78), Felix Avila (19 y.o. regen, 70)
                        CBs – Marquinhos (82), Semih Kaya (87), Carlos Pinto (17 y.o. regen, 65), Alvarez Balanta (75), van der Hoorn (75), Nacho (71), Mangala (84), Alderweireld (83)
                        LBs – Blind (79), Boilesen (76) – leaving club on a free.
CDMs – Bender (84), Julien Faure (18 yo regen, 68), Bart Jansen (18 yo regen, 57)
                        RM – Johannes Wydra (16 y.o. regen, 59)
                        CM – Markus Henriksen (78), Schone (76), Ivan Contreras (18 y.o. regen, 59), Edmin Emnes (18 y.o. regen, 66), Wiljan Overgoor (19 y.o. regen, 66), Hojbjerg (65), Pogba (85)
                        CAMs – de Jong (81), Serero (76)
CF – Julio Barros (18 yo regen, 63)
                        RW – Narsingh (83), Bakkali (82), Andersen (77), Lukoki (72), Tobias Sana (73)
                        ST – Lewandowski (86), Martial (74), Muriel (86), Sigthorsson (77)
                        LW – Fischer (83), El Shaarawy (82)

Clearly, LB is a weak spot. Just cant find a decent left back! Will also probably let Vermeer go, and try signing up Courtois. Also, most probably will let Hojbjerg and Schone go - Schone for his age and Hojbjerg cus he progressed just one point these three years.

Dont know where to spend the 117 mil I got. I already have top scouts and youth staff :P

Following up on the post above.

For LBs I am considering both Alaba and Jordi Alba - both are quick and lethal. Might end up buying both and letting go of Blind.

Also planning to sell off two CBs and instead get Varane. Really thinking of Alderweireld leaving Ajax since he is 27 now and I dont really want to give him a contract when he is old. Among the CBs, Nacho, van der Hoorn are certain to go.

Might also sell Lukoki. And Sigthorsson. Lewandowski is in his last year, so something needs to be done, he does get me the goals. Hard choice.

Woah, for once I actually might sell more players than I buy in a transfer window.

Anyone know what's up with the glitch where your substitutes disappear? It's not the invisible player glitch. I'll make a substitution right, leaving me with 6 players on the bench and 2 substitutions left. Later on in the game I'll pause to make a change, and while I still have 2 substitutions left, there are only 2 players on my bench - a goalkeeper and a center back. This happens quite often. Sometimes only one player will be missing, sometimes two, this time it was 4. Anyone know why this is happening?

@AS4 what kind of stats does Fischer have at 83 rating?

I have just finished my first season with Northampton Town FC, we won the league title and gained automatic promotion to league 1.. I played on World Class difficulty

                                Champions Roster:
GK- Duke (C)- retiring after this, so I will be on the hunt for a new young keeper, especially because I am not fully confident in my current backup.

RB- Robertson - excellent player, really good with crosses and ball control, hes 30yo so I may be splitting his time next year with my backup (Camadal)

CB- Tozer - Future captain, at 23yo this guy anchored my defense and was a big reason my team finished with 24 clean sheets.

CB- Collins - Solid CB, however hes a little small, may be in the hunt for a new one, depending on funds and roster at the start..

LB- Widdowson - Had a great season, is really fast and makes a lot of offensive runs. Young player with a decent potential so he will also be splitting time with Camadal and Roberts

RM- Hackett - older fella, however he wasnt my starter all season, it was originally Dickenson, however he got hurt and Hackett filled the role. Will keep him next year, however this is the main position I am looking to improve.. He would be a really good backup

CM- Carter - again he's 30yo however he was definitely an important piece for the squad.. controlled the midfield and usually played a more CDM type of style.. also scored 7 goals

CM- Labadie - (transfered in from Torquay @ start of season) hell of a player in the midfield, likes getting forward and runs down people all the time.. was second in the team on tackles and tied for first on appearances.. Mr. Reliable

LM- Morris- league leader for assists and netted 6 goals as well.. really strong and fast along the touchline.

ST- Marquis - 2nd in scoring in the league with 21 goals.. also had 8 assists. Really, really good player.. however, he was a loan in from Millwall, and I dont think I am going to buy him back, for I have confidence in my other strikers

ST- Hanson (Transfer from Bradford) - midseason transfer.. led the league in goals with 26 and did that in half the games of Marquis.. He is unmatchable in the air, and has a killer left foot.

                                ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                                Offseason Tasks:
                                - Sign 3rd string CB who can sub in, and contend for Collins' job.
-Sign a RM who is young and has a decent amount of potential- Björn Jopek- leading candidate from Berlin.
-Sign a ST to replace Marquis... or maybe resign Marquis depending on the beginning few games
-SIGN A GOALIE**** Priority #1 because Duke is retiring
