March 2016
Hertha BSC 2 - 0 VfL Wolfsburg
Kovacic 87', Benteke 90' pen
Hertha, the league leaders faced fifth-placed Wolfsburg. Under Ganchev's command the two teams have become big rivals and their meetings are always full of emotions and passion. The Berliners' manager was still banned and he had to watch the game from the stands. The match wasn't easy and both teams had a lot of chances but the keepers were playing well. The first goal happened as late as in the 87th minute when Hugo Lloris in goal parried Benteke's shot. The ball landed right in Kovacic's foot and the young Croatian slotted the ball in under the keeper. Three minutes later Bale got tackled in the box and Benteke put a powerful shot to the net.
Hertha BSC 2 - 0 Celtic (4-0 agg), Champions League Round of 16
Schär 13', Rojo 49'
Borussia Möchengladbach 1 - 1 Hertha BSC
Seferovic 82'
Benteke 39'
Another game against another rival which ended in a draw. The game was one of the games where Hertha takes the lead and in the end the opponent equalises. Mönchengladbach gave Hertha a tough game and they managed to get a point with a late Seferovic equaliser. Christian Benteke opened the scoring from a corner and Haris Seferovic shot the ball to the net after getting past the defenders.
Eintracht Braunschweig 1 - 0 Hertha BSC, DFB Pokal Semi Final
Zalazar 72'
A shocking result for the clear favourites in the cup and now they are out! Eintracht Braunschweig, a team from the second division of Germany, was able to reach the cup final after beating last year's champion in the semi finals. Hertha played a weak side for their standarts but it was meant to be enough to beat Braunschweig by at least two goals. The truth was different. Hertha's stars, featuring Gareth Bale, weren't able to break their opponent's defence. The only goal was scored by Zalazar from a header. Hertha pushed forwards but they weren't able to do anything. The game ended in dramatic fashion when Emre Can tried to cross a ball in from the right. The ball hit the defender's arm clearly and it should have been a penalty but the referee didn't do anything. Ganchev had another meltdown in his first game back from his ban and after a couple replays which showed the ball clearly hitting the defenders arm and wrist Ganchev ran to the referee, shouted some probably bad words at him and then the Bulgarian spit on the referee before pushing him. This ended in a ban which consists of the end of the season. Ganchev also received a penalty of €50,000.

Press Conference
Good afternoon. You are still first in the league but the difference is now eleven points. What happened?
I want to clear out that I'm really happy with us leading the table by a big margin. Now, we haven't been at our best with our finishing and defending. We have been making a lot of mistakes which ended in late goals and in dropped points. It's important to keep the lead until the end and we are working on that in training.
You're also out of the cup. How did that happen?
To be honest, I have no idea. Our players are much better than Braunschweig's and we had eight more shots than they did. We just couldn't get past their football from the 19th century and all they needed was a marking error. Our performance was shameful! I maybe put out our second team but they are good players and some starters, like Bale and Stocker, were starting. I'll still congratulate them for having a wonderful cup run. But don't even mention the referee and his mistakes...
Speaking of the referee, that was your second meltdown in two months. What did you do?
What did I do? The proper question is what that son-of-a-bitch did. I saw the ball hitting the defender's arm from 40 meters away but the referee didn't from maybe five meters. Then he blew the whistle when Mateo (Kovacic) got to the ball. I was really angry at that idiot and he got what he deserved.
Shouldn't you start controlling your emotions better?
I'm sorry for being a human.
Alright, let's move on. You beat Sevilla in the Champions League and you're favourites for the second leg. Will you be able to reach the semi finals?
I hope so. It doesn't depend on me, it depends on the players. If they play well and if they don't fall asleep we will get a win. If they don't concentrate something else can happen. The tough part is that I'll miss the game because someone has his eyes in his *******.
I'll ask one more question about the league. What do you think about probably winning the league in back-to-back seasons?
Probably? We have five games left and they are against Hamburg, Leverkusen, Freiburg, Frankfurt and Bayern. It's impossible to drop over eleven points against those teams which means we'll win it. I'm absolutely sure about that.
Weren't you also sure about winning the cup?
Shut up and get out. The conference is over.
Thank you for reading this post! I hope you have enjoyed it! Any feedback and suggestions will be appreciated!
