Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

I won't post any big/real updates until I start my Hertha career but I will keep you updated on what's happening with Swansea. I'm now two games into February and after getting really, really pissed off at the Legendary CPU I switched back to World Class after December but I'm still having problems against small teams. Here are the results from November to the end of January.

Swansea City 1 - 3 Arsenal, Capital One Cup Quarter Final

    West Ham 1 - 0 Swansea City

    Swansea City 0 - 1 Tottenham

    Swansea City 2 - 1 QPR

    Swansea City 2 - 1 Aston Villa

    Liverpool 3 - 1 Swansea City

    January 2014

    QPR 0 - 0 Swansea City

Hull City 2 - 1 Swansea City, FA Cup

    Swansea City 0 - 0 Chelsea FC

    Swansea City 2 - 0 West Ham

    Transfers Out

    Wilfried Bony
    , €33,500,000

    League Table

    1. Swansea City, 48 pts
    2. Chelsea FC, 46 pts (game in hand)
    3. Manchester United, 44 pts
    4. Tottenham, 39 pts
    5. Manchester City, 37 pts
    6. Liverpool, 36 pts
    -------------------------------------
    18. Southampton, 17 pts
    19. Leicester City, 17 pts
    20. West Ham, 16 pts

That's everything that has happened for now. One more thing. I may post the first update of the Hertha career later today, depends on if I have time.

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

Just completed my preseason and January in my second season with Stoke City and it was one of the craziest preseasons I have ever encountered. After qualifying for the champions league I had 3 key players force through a transfer after saying that they were effectively too big for the club. Begovic Diouf and Arnautovic. So I had to make a lot of new signings to beef up my squad for the extra games I will be playing. I am not sure I'm entirely happy with what I have done either. It just feels a bit like Tottenham after selling bale. I hope that the team grows on me and I can get past my reservations. I will post my transfer activity and my squad details later

I hope you sold them all to non Champions League teams just to spite them!

Unfortunately not I had to cash in before the board sold them for peanuts as they had threatened to sell them if I couldn't find a move for them.

            Ha Ho He

            Kicker 27.07.

Jos Luhukay, Hertha BSC's manager since 2012, has suprisingly resigned from his duties. The Dutch manager brought Hertha back to the Bundesliga in his first season as a manager and in his second season the newly promoted side finished eleventh, fifteen points clear of the relegation zone. The reason behind Luhukay leaving his job is yet unknown as the manager hasn't spoken to the press yet. A huge part of last season's success was Adrian Ramos who was bought in the summer by Borussia Dortmund. It's clear that replacements Salomon Kalou and Julian Schieber will have big boots to fill. Other signings made by Luhukay before leaving include Valentin Stocker, Genki Haraguchi, Johnny Heitinga and Roy Beerens.

Hertha BSC revealed their new manager earlier today. The man who will replace Jos Luhukay is Ludogorets Razgrad's manager Simeon Ganchev, who worked with Luhukay during his spell at Augsburg from 2009-2011. Then the Bulgarian 38 year old was appointed by the Bulgarian team Ludogorets where he won three consecutive titles and two cups. The young and talented manager also took his team to the Europa League round of sixteen and to the 2014-15 Champions League. The Bulgarian manager was introduced to the press and he answered some questions in his self-confident and hot-headed way.

Hello, and congratulations on your new job. What did you do, when you were contacted by the board?

To be honest, I wasn't that excited at first but as the conversation went on I knew this job is what I needed. We ended the phone call and the bosses flew to Sofia to negotiate about the contract. I took a look at it, listened to the board's objectives and ambitions and I signed the contract.

How do you feel about managing Hertha?

I'm really happy about it. I'm a big fan of German football and Berlin is one of my favourite cities. I like the attacking minded football they play here and it will enjoyable to work with professionals here. I have always wanted to manage a German club and it's great to be here.

What do you want to achieve at Hertha?

My and the clubs ultimate target is of course winning the league and the cup, becoming a real challenger for those two competitions, become a feared top team and win the Champions League. In this season we want to reach the Europa League spots. I think we can achieve that.

What is the biggest difference between Bulgaria and Germany you have noticed?

I have been here in Berlin for four days now and I have seen few differences. The people are nicer and warmer in Bulgaria and they are more beautiful. The buildings and streets are cleaner and in better shape here in Germany and the quality of life is better here. The food is pretty much the same and the weather is sunnier and warmer in Bulgaria but I love Germany, as well.

What kind of players will you be going for?

We have decided to try to get young talent and Germans in our team if we can. That's all I can say.

What will your playing style be?

I want my team to play fast attacking football with a lot of passes. The defence has to play well, too. We will not play some kind of Stokeball where we just cross the ball. We will press the opponents a lot and I want the midfield to work really well.

Last question. How do you feel about the fans?

I think they have been really supportive and great. It's clear that they're not confident about me but they are behind me. I'll do everything I can to show them that I'm a good manager.

Thank you for reading this post! I hope you have enjoyed it! Any feedback or suggestions will be appreciated!

              Aston Villa Career Mode

              Preseason Friendlies

              Aston Villa 2-2 Celta Vigo
              (Herd 45', Grealish 62')
              (Puchetta 12', Nolito 82')

Played my second team. Celta Vigo scored early however Herd scored a great finess shot from just outside the box to tie it before halftime. Young gun Grealish capitialised from a counter attack. However, they scored late to tie it up.

              Lazio 4-3 Aston Villa
              (Djordjevic 12' 60', Candreva 20' Klose 77')
              (Benteke 18' 58', Agbonlahor 47')

What a game. I played 9 of my starting 11 players. Djordjevic scored a header after a rebound off Guzan's save. Benteke then went beast and turned his defender to tie it up 6 minutes later. However, we weren't ready after the goal and Candreva scored 2 minutes later. Straight after half time finished Agbonlahor was found open and placed it passed the keeper. Benteke then won himself a penalty but Berisha saved it drifting it out for a corner. Benteke then made a run towards the near post and smashed in a awesome header. However, they did what they did after the first goal score straight away. Djordjevic's shot was amazing 30 yards out with it curling into the top corner. Finally we were playing laid back when Klose missed the easiest of headers skying the ball over bar from 2 yards. Guzan made a massive blunder trying to pass it out from the goal kick with the German legend intercepting it and scoring. It was a awesomme game. Benteke is beast (sorry about how long that passage was it was just a great game).

              Aston Villa 1-2 Valencia
(Benteke 28', Sanchez (RC) 72', Weimann (RC) 78')
              (Postiga 11', Rodrigo 63')

Postiga scored from a free kick whipped in from the Sanchez foul where he was booked. Benteke then went into beast mode and passed it to Westwood at the top of our box and ran the whole field to smash it passed the keeper. Rodrigo came on in the 57th minute and scored a beautiful finess shot. Guszan dived but had no chance. we then lost all discipline with Sanchez picking up a second yellow and Weimann took the Valencia player out from behind to be sent off straight away.

              Transfers

I have bought in two players during preseason with Danny Ings and Sam Byram coming in.

Danny Ings was bought in for 3 million pounds from Burnley and will be that impact sub every team wants. He also fits under my youth policy that I want to Implement

Sam Byram was bought in for 3.5 million pounds and was given the number 2 shirt. he'll be our starting RWB and too fits my youth policy.

We said goodbye to Darren Bent, Karim El Ahmadi and Alan Hutton who joined QPR, West Ham and Hull City respectively for a combined total of 6.5 million pounds. The club and I sold them due to them not fitting into my system and their age to an extent.

Contracts. Captain Ron Vlaar, Vice Captain Gabby Agbonlahor, Delph, Chris Herd and Jack Grealish all accepted new deals. Delph and the club had a dispute over his wages but we sorted it out.

I also signed 2 scouts for around 3 million and are scouting in England and Belgium.

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

Encountered my first bit of scripting in FIFA 15. I don't usually restart games, but when I saw what happened against Arsenal, I had to verify it.

The first time I played Arsenal at the end of September, I went 1-0 down within 10 minutes. Okay, I'm still getting used to defending in FIFA 15, nothing unusual there. But then around 30 minutes in, I'm tracking Welbeck with Cris Gamboa, who's got 90+ pace stats. Suddenly, Welbeck takes off, and I can't move Gamboa! After a second, he takes off, but is suddenly so slow that he falls over! Welbeck scores, and I go into the half 4-0 down!

I restarted, and the same thing happened... conceded within 10, had a defender refuse to move and then fall over, down by two goals at halftime. The one time I was up 1-0 with 80 minutes to go, I had two defenders sent off in 4 minutes, conceded twice, and had my keeper injured in stoppage time. I even simmed the match about 10 times, and not once did I get a result other than a loss. It's seriously effing annoying!

In my experience, it's one of those games you just can't win because the scripting code has decided that you are due a loss. Easiest thing to do is take the loss, because that usually resets the script, and it won't happen again for another 10-15 games. I'm not sure if I should keep going until I win or draw, or just take the loss and move on. I've had a great, great month in the league and would hate to see that go down because the FIFA code feels I've got to be handed a loss. Advice?

I feel you man. Although I haven't encounted it myself in FIFA 14 I did quite a bit. I would rage and swear sometimes restart the game but nothing changed. just take it on the chin and continue with your career. I hind sight it is kind of realistic no one wins every game in real life

OK guys. So make sure you tell me what you think about my update when it is posted. My plan, so it doesn't get boring for you or for me, is to not do match recaps. Instead, I will explain the goals and chances like I usually do, however through press conferences!

Yep, you read that right, press conferences are coming to my updates and are here to stay (at last)

                              AD Alcorcon - '18-'19 Season
                              End of the Season Update

                              League Match 30
Barcelona CF - AD Alcorcon (2-0)
                              Messi ’28
                              Messi ’34

Recap: There was simply nothing I could had done to stop Messi’s goals, if he gets the ball inside the box he’s more likely than not going to score. Barca suffocates the ball. I was never in control of this game.

                              League Match 31
AD Alcorcon - RCD Mallorca (0-3)
                              Cristeto ‘7
                              Grosicki ’41
                              Nsue ’70

Recap: a punch straight to the gut. The Cristeto goal was like a cold shower and no matter how much we tried we never recovered. My back line continues to break down. HUGE loss.

                              League Match 32
Real Madrid - AD Alcorcon (2-2)
                              Jo ’19
                              C. Ronaldo ’27
                              Jo ’32
                              Di Maria ’59

Recap: An unexpected battle between our RB and Real Madrid’s LW. Jo abused Ronaldo who underestimated the Korean’s attacking mindset for not one but TWO goals that seemed to put us on a track for big upset and bounce back from a very disappointing loss against Mallorca. But Di Maria is stupid good and one-timed a beautiful shot from the right side of the box to Ulreich’s right to even it out again. GREAT back-and-forth game.

                              League Match 33
AD Alcorcon - Celta Vigo (3-0)
                              Akpom ’45
                              Knoll ’88
                              Euller ’90

Recap: Our third game in seven days meant that the B squad got the assignment and although it took them a bit to get going they got the job done and by a good margin.

                              League Match 34
Levante UD - AD Alcorcon (0-2)
                              Yamura ‘3
                              Farago ’82

Recap: One of those games when you get a lot of shots on goal but few get in. Funny that our very first shot and perhaps our last one were the ones to find the back of the net.

                              League Match 35
Sevilla FC - AD Alcorcon (0-2)
                              Farago ’67
                              Akpom ’89

Recap: This game would decide our faith regarding the Champions’ as we went into this game in 5th place, Sevilla in 4th. We dominated throughout but weren’t able to get a score in until halfway in the second half and from there on it just felt like Sevilla could ruin the party at any moment. Luckily Akpom came out fresh off the bench to seal it. We took over 4th place with Valencia only 4 points away in 3rd place.

                              League Match 36
AD Alcorcon - RCD Espanyol (0-1)
                              Berko ’81

Recap: the heartbreak. We struggled offensively but at the same time we were having a strong defensive game, but pressure towards the end by the visitors led to the one and only goal of the game.

                              League Match 37
CA Osasuna - AD Alcorcon (0-1)
                              Enwu ’49

Recap: Unexplainable. Can’t score. Just couldn’t score. Valencia locks up 3rd place.

... before we get into the final game of the season, let me paint you a picture.

I am in 6th place with 65 points. At this point a top-3 finish is completely out of the question with Valencia (3rd place) already at 72 points. Ahead of me are Sevilla (5th) and Real Sociedad (4th) who both have 66 points. Behind me is Athletic Bilbao who has 63 points. As faith would have it I visit Real Sociedad, and as you all know qualifying for Champions’ League is my goal, so:
                              • If I win I jump ahead of Real Sociedad in the standings, but
                              • If Sevilla (hosting 17th place Levante) also wins, then I can only finish as high as 5th place and qualify for Europa League instead.
                              • If I draw I lock up an Europa League spot, but
                              • If I risk too much and lose, and if Bilbao wins, then I could be out of both the Champions and Europa League with the Copa Del Rey final as my only chance to qualify for European competition next season.

                              With that in mind ...

                              League Match 38
Real Sociedad - AD Alcorcon (?-?)

Recap: we establish our dominance from the get-go, attacking the host’s goal early and often. However, we continue our scoring drought and go into the half tied at 0-0. You can feel the pressure mounting on our players. We look at the scoreboard and see that, at the half, Levante is up 1-0 on Sevilla. FOURTH PLACE IS RIGHT THERE FOR THE TAKING! Are we going to let another opportunity slip away? We come out in the second half with a new determination, hungrier for the win, but the scoring drought continues. Salomon Rondon, by far my highest paid striker and 4th best paid player on the team, hasn’t scored since early February after suffering a torn calf muscle while playing for Venezuela later that month. The media is all over his drought, questioning whether his acquisition was a mistake even though he was on fire right before the injury. Rondon, with incredible tenacity, fights for a ball near midfield against a defender who tries to clear the ball away, it bounces off of Rondon and heads towards the home side of the field, Rondon breaks for it catching it about 15 yards before the box, he’s ahead of all the defenders who are trying to close the distance on him, he charges towards the goal like a man possessed and as he enters the box he looks up and with his right foot he curves a shot around Fabricio, Real Sociedad’s goal keeper.

Personal scoring drought over. Team scoring drought over. It’s 1-0 Alcorcon.

It continued to be all Alcorcon from there on but they were unable to score another goal. More importantly they didn’t give up a goal and wrapped up the victory. When the game ends they look at the scoreboard:

                              Spoiler

The team celebrated this accomplishment and the end of a league season where they faced many struggles but regardless of it all they were able to accomplish their goal. On the other hand, the Copa Del Rey final is in less than a week and the attention needs to be quickly turned to that. The team was able to pull out a draw against Barca in October but had most recently suffered a defeat against Luis Enrique’s squad.

                              Copa Del Rey - FINAL
FC Barcelona - AD Alcorcon (at Mestalla)

Recap: Surprisingly Messi does not get put on Barca’s roster for this game. Still, Barca is loaded as always and Cristian Tello is in excellent form. So it’s not a surprise that the 27-year old Spaniard opens up the scoreboard in the 14th minute. “Here we go again” thought the Alcorcon fans. We had modified our 4-4-2 diamond to play a bit more defensive against Barca’s 4-3-3 attack. Tello’s goal aside it was working but at the same time we weren’t getting to Barca’s goal effectively. Something needed to change. At times this season when down on the scoreboard in the second half we switch to a 3-4-3. We do this at the half this time around since there’s no tomorrow. It’s working, we’re getting to Barca’s goal with more consistency, but we’re still not breaking through. Our 3-men back line is holding up surprisingly well and we now control possession. Time is ticking, nothing is happening, we’re playing right into the expectations again. We’re going to lose to Barca again.

90th minute, Alessandro Farago is now the LW and he gets the ball at midfield on the left side. He turns upfield, looks up, and sees Angel Correa on the right wing breaking forward. Farago unleashes a through pass that arcs on the ground across the field forward, meeting Correa at full speed ahead of any defenders. He receives the pass and promptly kisses the #5 with his left foot, arching it around an outstretched Oier who can’t get a hand of it. Back of the net. Tied game. 1-1 and we’re going to overtime. Wow.

But no, wait, just because we think regulation time will be called doesn’t mean it is, and Barca wastes no time, gets on the attack right away, our guys frantically trying to stop them. Ticky tacka ticky tacka. Barca is putting on a clinic. Cesc Fabregas finds Iniesta entering the box right through the middle and the all-timer hits it as it comes, pockets it at the back of the net and runs toward the left corner to celebrate in ecstasy. Alcorcon is stunned. Barca’s team and fans go nuts, they’re about to win the double.

But wait, is there really more? Correa scored in the 90th minute. Iniesta at 90+. Surely this game will be called as soon as the ball is put back in play. Rondon touches it towards Farago and together they go back and forth rapidly moving forward. An approach that finds a defender 90% of the time is missing all the azulgrana players. Farago receives it at the top of the box on the right side, barely enters the box and unleashes a shot towards Oier’s right post. It gets past him, caressing the net ... IT’S A GOAL! ALCORCON SCORES! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? It’s the 3rd goal scored AFTER this game reached 90 minutes. PANDEMONIUM. Mestalla has a vibe going around that it arguably has never experienced before. NOW regulation is over, extra time is about to be served and after a crazy finish to the regulation what could happen now?

Nothing. Alcorcon has all the momentum and dominates ET but is unable to score again. Barca had one opportunity that was well saved by Ulreich. This is going to penalty kicks, it seems both fair and unfair. Barca goes up first ...

Del Barco accepts the head coaching job for the USMNT

After a surprising dismissal from the same position with the Venezuelan national team, Del Barco has accepted to lead the USMNT over offers from Spain and Cameroon. Funny how this things worked, Del Barco's first games at helm for the USMNT will be in the 2019 Copa America where they will be in Group A. Here are all three groups for the tournament.

                              Group A
                              Argentina
                              Chile
                              Venezuela
                              United States

                              Group B
                              Brazil
                              Ecuador
                              Peru
                              Mexico

                              Group C
                              Colombia
                              Uruguay
                              Paraguay
                              Bolivia

Funny how these things work, huh? USA's first game will be on July 6th against Chile, followed by Argentina July 10th and a juicy matchup against Venezuela on July 14th.

Here's the roster that I chose, I don't necessarily think the players available fit a 4-4-2 diamond so I may choose to roll with a 4-3-3 but I haven't decided yet.
