West Ham United - Episode #79: Bayern Munich!

In this episode, we finally test our squad with an away trip to European giants Bayern Munich in the Champions League group stage!

Every time I watch one of your updates I'm treated to some phenomenal goals. Kouyate's strike was amazing, but my favorite has to be Dybala's. That outstanding set up and then the smooth finish. Your playmaking gets better with each video I watch and you use pretty much every feature available on the controller. There are some things you've mastered that I hardly even use such as the low cross (that's the one where you press the cross button 2x right? Or is it 3x?) Bayern were completely on top but Leno had a remarkable match. Looking forward to the return match!

EDIT: Forgot to point out that I liked how you avoided switching players too much while defending. I know that for many of us our first instinct is to switch players as soon as the opponent makes a pass, but it's really important we instead stay on the same player and first make sure there's no unmarked man/area before we switch. Nice work man!

A brief Roma update. This has been an excruciating season to say the least. We sit in 7th in league table halfway through February. I will give an update later on some transfers that have taken place. We werebouced out the Champions Group stage because of some poor performances early. We pushed to tie FC Porto but fell short on goal difference.

Is it normal to be put in Europa league after being bounced out of Champions League play. We are now in the round of 32. I had never experienced this before.

The board had a meeting to determine my future as it stands right now I am still the man for the job. But only time and performance will tell.

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

Does anyone else notice a massive difference in gameplay since the 1.06 title update on X1/PS4? There are a few specific differences to mechanics that I've noticed.

        1. Passes often fall short of their intended target, even if you power them up nearly all the way. Increasing pass speed might help, but this seems more like a mechanics issue. Whatever the problem, it's almost impossible to keep the bulk of possession. I used to average 60-65% per match, and now I only get around 48-52%. Pass completion for me used to be around 85-88%, and that has fallen to 77-82%.

        2. It's almost impossible to dribble. Even players like Hazard and Messi feel heavy, clunky and cumbersome. Acceleration seems almost completely nerfed, and the first few steps with even the most agile and balanced of players is like Lukaku's first touch in a 10x gravity setting. Of course, none of this applies to the CPU.

        3. CPU pressure is at insane levels. Even teams like Preston tackle perfectly while pressing with 2-3 players against your man with the ball, and teams like Roma and Chelsea are almost impossible to play against. You end up spending half the game passing in your own half to avoid losing the ball, and even that doesn't always work.

        4. On the off chance that you manage to tackle and dispossess an opponent, he gets up and back onto the ball faster than your player can move two inches to it. There's virtually no way to reliably dispossess the opposition and keep the ball, especially in the box where even fully powered-up clearances end up going 10-15 yards at best.

        5. First touch seems to have become incredibly heavy. I used to glide with Hazard on 90 first touch error, but even he takes three or four heavy touches before starting to run properly. We all know how much BS that is for a player of his calibre.

The game feels almost unplayable. My last four results have been W 2-1, W 2-0, W 2-1, L 1-0. Despite the positive results, I haven't been enjoying the game. Everything feels slow, heavy and cumbersome. I understand that not every player can glide around like Giovinco, but when Hazard starts to feel like Akinfenwa, you know something's up.

Yes, the third-placed teams in each CL group drop to the Europa League for the round of 32. And you will need to finish in a Europa League spot at the very least to have a chance of keeping your job, given Roma's high ambitions and board objectives for the first season. I recommend you forget about Europe and prioritise the league. Not saying you should lose on purpose, but maybe play your kids out of position and sim the R32 fixtures.

Thanks indiblue the league is priority one. The team should turn around now, we got a nice young keeper better than aging De Sanctis and a better CB from Borussia Dortmund I will keep you guys informed with updates.

              Ha Ho He

              February 2018

              Borussia Dortmund 1 - 1 Hertha BSC
              Bony 15'
              Calhanoglu 36'

Even though both teams find themselves in the top four this game wasn't that interesting. Both teams defended well and neither team had many chances. Dortmund got into the lead only fifteen minutes into the game when Wilfried Bony scored from a poorly cleared corner. The lead lasted only twenty minutes as Hakan Calhanoglu curled a free kick over the wall into the net.

              Hertha BSC 3 - 2 FC Schalke 04
              Ramos 17', Kalou 76', 84' pen
              Aogo 45', Huntelaar 64'

This match between another top four sides was much more interesting than Hertha's game against Dortmund. Both teams defended pretty poorly and there were many goals. The home team scored first when Adrian Ramos headed the ball into the net from a corner kick but right before the break Dennis Aogo equalised. After the hour mark Klaas-Jan Huntelaar got his team into the lead with a header after he was left unmarked in the box. Only ten minutes later Salomon Kalou equalised from a counter attack and in the 84th minute the Ivorian got the winner from the penalty spot.

              Round of 16, 1st Leg
              Atletico Madrid 1 - 2 Hertha BSC
              Jimenez 15'
              Bellarabi 71', Kalou 82' pen

The two very good teams faced each other in this very exciting game where Hertha controlled the game. Atletico got the lead early into the game when Raul Jimenez tapped the ball into the net. Hertha then tested Miguel Moya in goal many times but the keeper had a very good game. In the 71st minute the Berliners finally equalised when Karim Bellarabi's shot got deflected into the net. Ten minutes after that Bellarabi was tackled in the box and Salomon Kalou got the important second away goal which decided the game from the spot.

              Hamburger SV 1 - 2 Hertha BSC
              Ilicic 37'
              Arnold 25', Meyer 90'

For the third time this season Hertha were able to beat HSV. Maximilian Arnold scored the first goal after a very nice passing move but Ivo Ilicic equalised soon after being left unmarked in the box. It then took until the last kick of the game for the winning goal as Max Meyer got into the box and curled the ball past Adler in goal.

              Hertha BSC 1 - 0 Mainz 05
              Ramos 38' pen

The second game against Mainz was also very tough for Hertha and they didn't have many chances. Adrian Ramos' successful penalty was enough for the three points at the end.

              Player of the Month

              Salomon Kalou

It wasn't easy to decide who deserved to be the player of the month of February but at the end the award was given to Salomon Kalou who scored three very important goals and decided two games with those goals.

              Bundesliga Table

              1. Hertha BSC, 62 pts
              2. Bayern München, 48 pts
              3. FC Schalke 04, 47 pts
              4. Borussia Dortmund, 45 pts
              5. Bayer Leverkusen, 45 pts
              6. 1899 Hoffenheim, 38 pts
              -------------------------------------------------
              16. Red Bull Leipzig, 18 pts
              17. Werder Bremen, 15 pts
              18. FC Kaiserslautern, 15 pts

              My Thoughts

I'm starting to sound like a broken record but now the league is surely ours. Our lead grew to twelve points and I can't see us losing four games while Bayern win all of theirs. The away win against Atleti will surely prove to be important in the second leg and if we play the same way in the home leg we'll go through. Even though we conceded a big amount of goals Sokratis has done pretty well in the defence and he has grown to 86 ovr. On top of that his value is thirty million now. Matip has been okay as a CDM and everyone else is doing fine. Goretzka, Calhanoglu and Meyer have grown by three or four but I'm shocked that Goretzka hasn't created a single goal. Calhanoglu hasn't been that prolific, either.

Thank you for reading this post! I hope you have enjoyed it! Any feedback or suggestions will be appreciated!

A very good month with 4 wins and a draw from 5 games. Really good win against Atletico and a respectable point against Dortmund. Good wins in your other games too. That lead in the league is monstrous and I have no doubt that you will be going all out to win the Champions League.

No not really, if two players are tied and one is British I would go with the British one.

EDIT: Any CAM and playmaking/box to box CDM/CM suggestions would be great to hear from anyone as well!
