    August 2016

    QPR 1 - 1 Sheffield United
    QPR - Diakite 59'
    SHU - Sharp 78'
    MOTM: Long

Match Summary: Diakite split the defense to find the opener and it looked like that was going to be the difference until Adams drew a penalty and it was put away by Sharp for the equalizer.

    Capital One Cup
    Sheffield United 2 - 1 Leyton Orient
    SHU - Campbell-Ryce 90' (PEN), McNulty 112'
    LEY - James 69'
    MOTM: Campbell-Ryce

Match Summary: Leyton struck first but it was the Blades that ended up on top. A late penalty is what saved them allowing them to win it in extra time with a great effort from McNulty.

    Sheffield United 1 - 0 Wigan Athletic
    SHU - Cameron 70'
    MOTM: Long

Match Summary: Cameron scored his first goal for the senior team in his first start with a opportunistic strike off of a takeaway from the last defender.

    Burnley 3 - 3 Sheffield United
    BUR - Gray 33', Arfield 43', Barnes 49'
    SHU - Coutts 9', 23', Woolford 57'
    MOTM: Coutts

Match Summary: A high scoring affair had United jump out to an early lead only to squander it away and fall behind. Woolford came through in the end though with an equalizer to save a point.

    Sheffield United 2 - 1 Fulham FC
    SHU - McNulty 88', Cuvelier 90'
    FUL - McCormack 34'
    MOTM: McCormack

Match Summary: A stunning free kick put Fulham ahead in the first half, and it took the introduction of McNulty off the bench to get something going for the homeside. He scored one of his own and set up the winner when his shot was deflected into the path of Cuvelier.

    Capital One Cup
    Sheffield United 2 - 1 Blackburn Rovers
    SHU - Flynn 66', Scougall 76'
    BLB - Lozano 45'
    MOTM: Scougall

Match Summary: Another frantic second half come back resulted in three points. A lucky deflection scored the equalizer, but a perfectly placed ball resulted in the winner.

    Cardiff City 0 - 0 Sheffield United
    MOTM: Long

Match Summary: Sheffield controlled the possession, but it was Cardiff that saw the majority of the chances. Regardless, neither team was able to break the deadlock and the match finished with an uneventful draw.

    Sheffield United 2 - 1 Hull City
    SHU - Baxter 17', Harris 42'
    HUL - Maloney 90'
    MOTM: Long

Match Summary: Two great strikes from Baxter and Harris were enough to save them from a heart breaker at the end off a defensive mistake. There weren't many chances for the home side, but they were efficient with the ones they did take.

      Starting XI (4-4-2 Diamond Wide)

      J. Paint Trophy - Area Quarter Final
      Doncaster - Newport County (0-2)
      Gordon 8'
      Thuram 90+' (Odubajo)

Gordon 45+' (Sprained ankle, out 3 weeks)

Marcus Thuram continued to be a pain for opposing defenses, having a hand in both goals as The Exiles continue to move in the JPT. Gordon's score early in the game came as a result of a Thuram shot that was saved, the ball deflecting towards a wide open Gordon. Unfortunately for the academy product from Scotland he once again starts the month with an injury that will keep him out about 3 weeks.

      League Match 16
      Portsmouth - Newport County (0-0)
      Spoiler

      League Match 17
      Newport County - Bury (4-2)
      Miller 8'
      Giles 38' (Potter)
      Mayor 52'
      McKay 69' (Thuram)
      B. Moore 84' (Potter)
      McKay 90+' (B. Moore)

Bury gave The Exiles a run for their money but in the end Newport was able to equalize the game twice then run away with a two-goal lead thanks to big games from Jack McKay, Ben Potter, and Bondz Moore.

      Spoiler

      League Match 18
Rotherham Utd - Newport County (1-0)
      Newell 62'
      Dall'Oglio 26'
      Parker 70'

The Exiles' B-squad created a few scoring opportunities but couldn't outplay a Rotherham squad that earned their goal to pull out this victory. Furthermore, Dall'Oglio's third yellow card in league play meant he'd have to miss the next game.

      League Match 19
      Newport County - Walsall (2-1)
      Fantom 9'
      Ichigawa 44' (Salo)
      Potter 86' (Giles)

Marccelino chose to play his B-squad in back-to-back games and with Dall'Oglio's absence the club decided to promote Hikaru Ichigawa from the academy, a move that paid off as the CDM scored an equalizer as the half neared its end. Both teams pushed each other in the second half looking for the victory and it would be The Exiles who would find the game winner as Potter handled backup duties at CAM.

      Spoiler

      League Match 20
MK Dons - Newport County (3-1)
      Jennings 32'
      Randall 78'
      Giles 89'
      Randall 90+'

A much-awaited match-up between the top two teams in the league went to the Dons, who were hosting The Exiles. Newport came into this game as the highest scoring team in the league but the hosts countered with the best defense in the league and they, at least for this night, proved their defense was better than Newport's offense.

Review: As you might be able to conclude from looking at the standings we had gone into that last game of the month with a 3-point lead for 1st place but unfortunately we were unable to get the job done against a good MK Dons squad. In retrospect maybe the simmed draw at Portsmouth hurts a bit since that looked like a winnable game. But still, it seems like every month we cut into the Dons' lead so have to be happy about that with still more than half a season left. It was a special moment to promote Ichigawa out of necessity then get him scoring on his very first game (which out of necessity was also a start). His overall and Dall'Oglio's are pretty much the same but the Italian's game is slightly more well-rounded so he'll continue to be ahead of the Japanese in the pecking order for now. Other than that, obviously happy about continuing to move in the JPT and a bit worried about Gordon suffering injuries in back-to-back months though not quite ready to put him in Giles' territory just yet.

In academy news, there's still no news as we keep our scouts on hold so we'll just update you on the guys in the youth squad:

      - Gregorio Miranda (LB,61 OVR, 81-87): The now 17-year old from Argentina is actually right-footed and may project as an option at RB. Pace-wise he's currently similar to Fernandes in that he's close to average although he has better acceleration (and obviously isn't as advanced in his overall development).
      - David Fox (RM, 61 OVR, 78-84): 16-year old from Scotland has very good agility and our scouts are very pleased by his progress in the academy last season which may lead to promotion at some point this season.
      - Satoshi Kagome (CDM, 47 OVR, 78-84): 17-year old from Japan who is physically strong. Coaches will look to develop him into more than just a defensive stopper.
      - Hayato Matsuki (GK, 61 OVR,75-81): This Japanese prospect was the first goalkeeper to join the academy and after recently turning 17 he now stands 6'7" and 196lbs, making him a very special prospect for the club. His potential may not be as high as we initially thought but he has been working hard in the academy, impressing coaches and improving his skillset (AND his potential is higher than any other GK in the game with his measurements).
      - Bondz Laslie (CB, 55 OVR, 77-83): 18-year old from England who seems like a carbon copy of Tafari Hunt who was recently promoted, and we hope he'll develop his game as quickly.
      - Daniel Seager (CM, 54 OVR, 76-82): After recently turning 17 this Englishman decided to focus on using his 6-feet, 176-pound frame towards being a defensive midfielder to maximize some of his best attributes such as strength and aggression.
      - Yoshi Ishinomori (CM, 46 OVR, 75-83): The 17-year old from Japan is a commanding physical presence standing at 6'5" and 189lbs and the club will try to develop his skill set to quickly match his physical abilities.
      - Eiichi Suzuki (GK, 57 OVR, 76-82): The 16-year old from Japan represents the second keeper signed by the club and will battle with his countryman in the academy.
      - Juan Pablo (LW, 58 OVR, 72-78): The final evaluation for this Argentinian prospect is that the 17-year old's potential isn't as high as initially thought. Still, he possesses very good quickness and swiftness and his outstanding skills in short spaces could be a weapon of value for us.
      * Recent addition.

Having recently taken over for a Finland national team that has qualified for the 2018 World Cup, the few friendly games the team will have before the big dance will be important for Marccelino to get a good grip on this squad.

      International Friendly
      Finland - Norway (3-0)
      Ring 30' (Hurme)
      Ring 45+' (Pukki)
      Pohjanpalo 48' (Ring)

Finland was rusty adjusting the 4-1-2-1-2 and for the first 29 minutes of the game Norway had a sizable advantage in possession but they themselves weren't being too sharp on offense. A couple of counter-attacks by Finland gave them a 2-0 lead at the half and they managed it from there.

      International Friendly
      Bulgaria - Finland (0-0)

Neither team was able to create many opportunities though Marccelino can walk away from this game proud of holding the opponent to just one shot that wasn't even on target.

      That's all for this update!

Deulofeu found some good form as he found the net again against Sheffield

Mirallas came back and scored instantly!

Lukaku and his penalty, with roaring Toffees

Besic has been hitting the gym.

Ravel scoring his first goal for us!

Another player back and winning the game for us was Barkley

        My thoughts

Keeping it short - Won't go into many details, but, first off:

The league is tight! - You shall get a league update after next months post along with my own transfer ideas (if any?), but all I can say, is that the whole top section is a point difference. (And we are in it!)

Opposite from last post - I asked for guys to score, bam, they did. Lukaku is still on a roll, but I like the fact that other players actually have stepped up.

Next month - Only December will come now, however, it will feature the biggest game of them all: Merseyside derby!

        Take care!

          Season 2
          January 2017

          Season Objectives:

The Domestic Cup objective is to reach the Semifinal.
The League objective qualify for the Champions Cup.
The European Cup objective is to reach the Final. - Failed

          Transfers In:

          Christian Eriksen

          Overall: 85
          Position: CAM
          Age: 24
          Value: $64,000,000
          Price: $50,000,000
          Wage: $200,000 / week

Our one and only signing of the January transfer window is quite a big one. I think Eriksen will help us score more goals with his creativity and versatility. I also would like to point out that I got a pretty good deal on the Danish playmaker.

          Transfers Out:

          Moussa Sissoko - POS: RM - OVR: 79 - AGE: 27 - Price: $15,000,000 to Celto Vigo

          Florian Thauvin - POS: RM - OVR: 76 - AGE: 23 - Price: $12,000,000 to Spurs

          BPL Match
          Newcastle 4 - 1 Watford
          Correa 32’ 62’ 78’
          Berghuis 65’
          Niang 90’

          MOTM Correa

The start of the end of the scoring problems?!? I certainly hope so! Correa opened the scoring thirty-two minutes into the game when he cut in a powered it between the front post and goalkeeper. Thirty minutes after he scored a similar goal but finished back post. Just after kick off Watford worked the ball around until they found Berghuis about twenty five yards out and he hit a screamer. Correa completed his hattrick twelve minutes before full time when Townsend squared it across the face of goal to give the Argentine an easy tap in. Niang came off the bench and scored in stoppage time when Shelvey released him into space behind the defence and he chipped it over the sliding keeper.

          FA Cup
          Watford 1 - 1 Newcastle
          Cabella 35’
          Deeney 66’

          MOTM Sanches

We played a weaker side in this game because we have a match against Arsenal in three days time that we are hoping for a good result. Ten minutes before half time Cabella played a one two with Niang and slotted it past Gomes. Half an hour later though Troy Deeney out jumped Krul and headed into an open net to insure we would have a replay.

          BPL Match
          Arsenal 0 - 1 Newcastle
          Wijnaldum 43’ (PEN)

          MOTM Moreno

A big win for us at the Emirates. Neither keeper had much to do in this game because both defences were very solid the entire game. It took us to get a penalty given in our favor, one that I’m not sure should have been given.

          BPL Match
          Newcastle 2 - 1 Leicester City
          Niang 56’
          Perez 83’
          Kramaric 86’

          MOTM Perez

Not a very convincing win given both teams position in the table. Both Niang and Perez scored from taking the ball off Leicester’s last defender finishing their 1v1 with Schmeichel. The visitors got one back late on though when Kramaric finished his chance off the post.

          FA Cup
          Newcastle 1 - 0 Watford
          Correa 105’

          MOTM Krul

Watford were unlucky in this game and really don’t deserve to go out. In what turned out to be Sissoko’s last game with us he got the assist when he drilled in a cross on the ground for Correra.

          BPL Match
          Everton 2 - 3 Newcastle
          Niang 27’ 59’ 67’
          Besic 71’
          Deulofeu 90’

          MOTM Niang

Niang had an excellent game but his first goal was easily the best. In a Messi like way he dribbled his way between four defenders with close touches before passing it into the bottom corner. He would go on to score two more in the second half to insure the win. Everton did score though, their first from Besic was a banger from the top of the box, a brilliant hit really.

          FA Cup
          Crystal Palace 3 - 2 Newcastle
          Correa 8’
          Townsend 25’
          Adebayor 39’
          Wickham 48’
          Ward 90’

          MOTM Shelvey

After thirty minutes we had two goals and I was confident we would advance in the cup but Alan Pardew and his men had a different idea. Wickham scored an outrageous from thirty yards, he didn’t even look at the goal he had his back to goal and then just kind of swung at the ball and it somehow went in. Townsend sprained his ankle and will be out for three weeks.

          BPL Match
          Newcastle 2 - 0 West Ham
          Shelvey 70’
          Correa 90’

          MOTM Brooks

West Ham is doing surprisingly bad this season so I was quite surprised it took us so long to score. We finally broke the deadlock in the 70’ when we got a free kick on the side of the box and it was crossed into Shelvey you ran near post and headed in past the keeper. Correa sealed the deal in the last minute when Brooks, who got his first MOTM award for us on his birthday today, played him through 1v1.

Starting Lineup as of the end of January:

          Table:

          My Thoughts:
To be out of the FA Cup is disappointing, but still 6 points ahead of fourth place Chelsea and just behind second place Arsenal on goal differential. I think signing Eriksen will be good for our goalscoring problems, he is now our best player and I certainly hope he can show that. Let me know what you think about my transfer window! Do you think I made the right decisions?

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

Cruzer - nice 7-game winning streak after that goalless draw against Southampton. You didn't give me a table but did give me the spoiler about being among a group of teams fighting for the lead so that sufficed for now. Lukaku is definitely in great form, I believe that was a 4-game scoring streak he had in league play.

Tex - thanks for the update but unlike Simp I wasn't necessarily looking forward to it if you seem to be disconnected from it. You're a better version than Chico at the moment in that you seem to be around more often than him but I'm sure there's a reason why you're not posting regularly. Hope all it's good and when you're ready to roll, be it with Sheffield or a new CM, I look forward to following.

10 - I would love to watch how that 3-4-2-1 plays for you with that roster you have. Nice acquisitions of Tielemans and Zivkovic to strengthen your lineup but if Vacca was already your starter then why purchase Zivkovic?

Ducks - welcome, my first comment on your CM. I digged the setup for your video letting the game narration be most of the audio. Must have been nice to come back from that 2-0 deficit and I thought Kane's first goal was exquisite given the angle he had to work with while his game-winner was a bit lucky but I'm sure you're not complaining. Digging the short recap too, I can buy Lamela being "home sick" and both the possibility of Bale or Berahino joining the club are realistic IMO.

Moose - I support your mentality to play a 4-2-3-1 because I can see that's what you're comfortable with, you seem to feel safe having a 6/4 split between defenders and attackers with both your CDM's obviously being box-to-box guys and with that in mind I can also see why Antonio is key for you since he's good on both ends of the pitch. All that being said, I'll probably remain a critic of the way you're utilizing your players unless I see some changes in the upcoming transfer window. You can sell Dybala all you want at CAM but after seeing him be the league's leading scorer at ST it's hard for me to buy. You also obviously noticed Payet isn't being utilized best out in the wings. Before Lacazette's acquisition Payet was thriving in that CAM role from what I could see. I can't hate on acquiring the French striker who arguably might have scored more than Dybala in the first half of the season but in my eyes you're misusing Dybala at CAM and WASTING a class CAM like Payet on the bench. The most reasonable thing I can see happening is you selling Dybala to get an elite winger to go along with Tello, a rich man's version of Antonio if you will, since I can sense a 4-1-2-1-2 isn't your cup of team which is really the only formation in which you can properly use Payet/Lacazette/Dybala. I don't see you going with the 4-4-2 classic which is the other option you listed and even if you did chose that then it'd make sense to sell Payet in order to get that elite winger (with Carrillo/Antonio being excellent bench options). I'm also for the idea of getting an elite CDM and I think you can move on from Kouyate in order to achieve that.

Keano - you're making it look too easy in League 2. Stop it. Who is this Morgan scoring so much?

I really wish I could make a video series! I was looking at getting a capture card for my Xbox 360 but thought against it due to how much I would have to spend and the question marks over me possibly purchasing next-gen soon. I'd loved to have shown you guys but I don't think there's a cost-effective way of doing that and I doubt you'd want to see an old fifa game with last-gen graphics anyway.

Without Zivkovic, my second and third choice striker positions would fall to Koppers and Inniss (yep, Inniss! Or maybe Appiah :P ) and both Koppers and Vacca struggle for aerial prowess despite Vacca being 6'4" :P and playing Inniss up front for more than a couple of games is probably just asking for trouble. I'm hoping Zivkovic will be a threat no matter which part of his body he uses with his decent strength, pace and jumping but that still doesn't mean he'll be waltzing into my team.

I know it might sound tentative but I know what i'm getting with the Vacca at the moment and i want to see whether he'll start banging in the goals or not. I think it's best for consistency if Zivkovic is eased into the team as my last two strikers (Morata and Mitrovic) just waltzed into the first team and we then had to rely upon Ronaldo and Compton getting the majority of our goals.

Some people just have talent. It's Adam Morgan IIRC. He's with Accrington on the default squads and has proven to be decent so far. Good physicals and alright finishing.

Nice physicals on THuram! If only his stamina was a little bit higher. That dribbling and heading accuracy though. Gorgeous.

yeah I'm working on improving his stamina but since I work with 2 strikers he doesn't have to run all over the front and is able to put in full games

No worries it was one I had laying around from before I had stopped playing, which is why I had told Simp a few weeks back that I had something I could post but probably wouldn't have anything for a while after that. That career is just where the last update left off so it was a good idea to go ahead and get that out so whenever I do end up coming back to it I can pick up there.

Been wanting to play lately but have been a bit preoccupied so I haven't been able to. Things are going well for me though! Just celebrated 1 year wedding anniversary with my wife last week!

I've tried to become a WBA fan since Rondon was signed but can't nobody become a fan of a Pulis team, that's absurd. Would be fun to see that team actually reach his potential (please play Gamboa/Poco at FB). Malaga would also be fun because they have like 3 Venezuelans depending on which roster you use.

Middle point of the season. Before the boys in blue could get their Christmas presents, they needed to see the year off well. However, like they knew firsthand - nothing comes easy in this league.

                            My thoughts

First off - Sorry for the black edges on pictures! For some reason they stayed there and I only noticed them after uploading, will crop them out next time!

What a month - Such a difficult month, my god. We really stuggled in most games, it just did not click at all. Not even the "Lukaku, bail us" tactic work, nothing. I am glad we snuck the win against Chelsea, it could be a real chance for silverware, but other then that, work needs to be done.

The Derby - The derby was actually intense, my god. We had plenty of chances, but Mignolet was on his game, wow. Even saved a last minute chance from Lukaku, which I swear was going to the top corner.

Backbreaker - We literally played last 3 games in 5 days, my word. The whole month was tough, but that was just insane. A lot of players got minutes, which is why Ledson even gave an assist (he will be a beast!)

Next month - Next month will feature a crucial game against Man City, and the COC Semis against Arsenal!

What about the league post you promised, Cruzerr? - Well, Rabbit, it will come today! Stay Tuned!

                            Take care!
