Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

    Season 7

    The Mariners

    October 2022

    Leicester City 1 - 0 Grimsby Town
    LEI - Rashford 9'
    MOTM: Amartey

We dropped our first points of the season, and we deserved so much more from this one. Leicester took only 2 shots the entire match, and score with their only attempt on goal. It came just 9 minutes in as Amartey beat his man to get into the box and he played it across for Rashford to trap and then fire past the keeper into the back of the net. We drew some saves out of their keeper trying to pull one back, but we couldn't get anything past him and Leicester got the win and the points.

    Grimsby Town 0 - 0 AFC Bournemouth
    MOTM: Sidibe

This was a terrible performance and we were lucky to even get a point out of it. We had two huge chances that should have been scored, but Zaha and Kamada each sent their shots wide after getting through on goal. Two straight matches now without scoring and we can't let ourselves drop into a prolonged drought.

    Champion's League Group Stage
    Ajax 1 - 2 Grimsby Town
    AJX - Younes 59'
    GRI - Dembele 56', Wolf 70'
    MOTM: El Azzouzi

We broke our scoring drought and picked up two scrappy goals that will hopefully help us get back to our usual form. Dembele opened the scoring after Zaha sent a cross in from the right wing and he jumped up to head it back into the top right corner. Our lead lasted only minutes as we got caught on the counter and they overwhelmed us with numbers and Younes got the ball on the back post and placed it around our keeper. We found a winner though after a foul and Morris curled his free kick towards goal and the keeper pushed it up off the crossbar and Wolf was there to knock in the rebound.

    Stoke City 1 - 2 Grimsby Town
    STK - Charisis 56'
    GRI - Sacko 69', Kelly 89'
    MOTM: Sacko

We fell behind, but it was good to see the squad have enough fight in them to not only come back, but to find a way to win it as well. Our defense completely fell apart on their goal and Charisis ended up with the ball right in front of our goal with no one around him and it was an easy finish for him to take the lead. We were able to equalize though as we went on the counter and Bennett played the ball through for Sacko on the right and he finished across the goal to the far post. After that it looked like if anyone was going to get the win it would be us, and we did just that when Kelly got the ball and went to shoot from distance but it was deflected and fell right back in front of him and he was clear to go through on goal and then slot it past the keeper.

    EFL Cup Round of 16
    Sunderland AFC 1 - 2 Grimsby Town
    SUN - Santos 47'
    GRI - Kessie 6', Kelly 79'
    MOTM: Kessie

Kelly scored one of the most impressive winner's you'll ever see and it seems that 2-1 is our lucky scoreline as of late. We took the lead early in this one as Zaha got the ball on the right side of the goal and waited to play the ball to Kessie overlapping and he finished low around the keeper. Just after the half Santos equalized as he took a first time shot from just inside the box and it settled into the bottom right corner. Kessie played the ball to Kelly and he took a touch toward goal and then put the ball on his right foot to blast a shot from way outside of the box across to the top left corner to win it for us.

    Grimsby Town 0 - 0 Sunderland AFC
    MOTM: Wolf

Once again we play back-to-back matches against the same team for the second straight round in the EFL Cup followed by a Premier League fixture. We really should have won this, and it is disappointing to look back at the chances we missed. Their keeper was in top form though, and he wasn't going to let anything past him this night it seemed.

      Season 3

      Club in Crisis

      October 2018

      Portsmouth FC 0 - 1 Blackpool FC
      BLP - Sordell 90'
      MOTM: Sordell

This was almost a very frustrating draw after we played the entire second half with a man advantage and kept missing golden chances. But finally in the final minute we pushed forward on the counter and overwhelmed them with our numbers and Akinde was able to find Sordell running free towards the back post and he took his time to place his shot to the right of the keeper and into the corner for the deciding goal.

      Checkatrade Trophy
      Port Vale 3 - 0 Blackpool FC
      PVL - Pereira 30', Foley 72', Forrester 86'
      MOTM: Pereira

We were terrible from start to finish and the result was exactly what we deserved. Pereira took advantage of a mistimed tackle and he was through on goal and had a simple finish on the near post for the lead. They doubled that lead with Foley running in unmarked on the back post and he hit the ball first time into the top left corner. They extended the lead once again with Forrester getting into the box and hitting a first time shot past our keeper and put the finishing touches on our embarrassing night.

      Blackpool FC 0 - 0 Charlton Athletic
      MOTM: Payne

Our attack was missing all night. We held 60% of the possession, but still only managed to take just a single shot the entire night. We absolutely have to get better if we want to compete for a chance at promotion, but we just keep sliding further down the table as we struggle to score any goals.

      Oxford United 0 - 2 Blackpool FC
      BLP - Akinde 25', 81'
      MOTM: Akinde

This was a big win against the team that was 2nd in the standings heading into this match. Akinde was in great form and he opened the scoring by pouncing on the rebound from Sordell's shot that hit off the post and he directed it back into the open goal. Then late in the match Evina led us on a counter and he used patience to pick out his pass and play Akinde through on the left and he fired his shot low into the bottom right corner.

      Blackpool FC 1 - 0 Leyton Orient
      BLP - Azeez 75'
      MOTM: Azeez

It was scrappy, it was ugly, it was a little undeserved, but we got the win. We took turns taking shots and watching the keepers push them away, and even exchanged shots off the woodwork as well. Then in the second half the keeper made back-to-back saves against Gnanduillet, but the second save fell out to Azeez in the middle of the box and he was able to tuck it away for the only goal of the match.

      Peterborough United 0 - 0 Blackpool FC
      MOTM: Osborne

For once this was a game that we should have won, but settled for just a point. We had a couple of really good chances, but their keeper made great saves to keep everything we threw at him out of his own net. A win could have done wonders for spot in the standings, and if we find a way to keep improving then we can climb our way back up.

        Board expectations:
        Win the League
        Round of 32 FA Cup
The board are pretty straight forward in the fact that they need promotion. You can’t really blame them when you think about where they were 10 years ago. I think promotion is attainable but a few signing need to be made for that to happen.

          Season 7

          The Mariners

          November 2022

          Champion's League Group Stage
          Athletic Bilbao 1 - 1 Grimsby Town
          ATH - Villalibre 19'
          GRI - Kamada 11'
          MOTM: Kessie

A draw was more than we deserved, but it's a result that we are happy with while being away from home. Kamada scored early to give us the lead after Kessie played him the ball and he made a great turn to get around the defense and the slotted it low across the goal to the far post. It didn't take them long to equalize and it came off of a corner where Sidibe headed away the first attempt that came at the goal, but Villalibre was there to head the rebound back over our keeper and in.

          Norwich City 1 - 1 Grimsby Town
          NOR - Canos 88'
          GRI - Boscagli 50'
          MOTM: Dembele

Such a frustrating draw, especially after back to back spectacular saves from their keeper kept us from getting our second on the night. We took the lead in the second half when Dembele was able to play Boscagli through on the left and he placed his shot across the keeper to the far post. We then conceded late after a cross was headed at our goal and Thomas kept it out impressively, only to see Canos get to it first and head it back into our net.

          Grimsby Town 1 - 1 Newcastle Untied
          GRI - Zaha 45' (PEN)
          NEW - Aarons 84'
          MOTM: Kessie

Almost an identical ending to the last match, and equally as frustrating. We got our lead after Kamada drew a foul in the box, and the referee pointed to the spot. Zaha slotted it away to the left side of the goal. It looked like we were going to get the win, but with just minutes left a long shot smashed off of our post and fell to Aarons on the left and he placed it back into the open net for the equalizer.

          Champion's League Group Stage
          Grimsby Town 3 - 2 Ajax
          GRI - Griffiths 10', Sacko 44', Wright 90'
          AJX - Clement 50', Serero 69'
          MOTM: Griffiths

We scrapped out a win, and it's enough to send us through to the knockout stages with a game to spare in group play. We opened the scoring when Bennett got down the left and sent a ball across the face of the goal and Griffiths was on the back post to tap it in. Morris then played Sacko through on the right and his first shot was saved, but his second effort found the back of the net. We then got unlucky as they pulled one back after Clement was able to keep the ball after we tackled it away and he fired it into the top right corner. Then our luck continued as Santos headed down a cross in our box and Serero was there to pounce on it and tuck it away for the equalizer. Santos made up for it though after a corner was knocked down to him by Harris and he played it into the middle for Wright to tap in for the winner.

West Ham United 1 - 3 Grimsby Town
          WHU - Fernandes 64'
          GRI - Morrison 31', Zaha 45', Caulker 85'
          MOTM: Caulker

It was nice to grab a league win in this month after so many draws. We scored first with Sidibe playing a great through ball to Morrison on the left and he powered it past the keeper. Zaha doubled our lead just before the half after Kessie sent a cross on from the right and he headed the ball into the top left corner. They pulled one back though as our defense let Fernandes run right past them and he got the ball in front of goal and it was an easy finish from there. With a few minutes remaining we put the game away when Dembele flicked a corner on to the far post and Caulker was there to tap it in.

          EFL Cup Quarter Final
          Grimsby Town 2 - 1 Leeds United
          GRI - Wolf 115', Harris 120'
          LEE - Phillips 103'
          MOTM: Vieira

We peppered their goal all match long, but by the end of regulation the game was still scoreless. In extra time Leeds took the lead after Kelly tried to chest a corner down instead of clearing it and Phillips was able to win the ball and send it into the back of the net. We equalized after Vieira played the ball ahead to Wolf on the counter and he used his pace to go through on goal and finish to the far post. In the very last minute Fenton joined the attack and sent a ball into the middle from the right and Harris met it on the near post and directed it around the keeper to the left side of the goal.

            November 2018

            Blackpool FC 0 - 1 Gillingham FC
            GIL - Byrne 15'
            MOTM: Osborne

We should have had at least a draw, but our final touch left us lacking. We fell behind early after a scramble in our box left Byrne with the ball and he avoided a challenge to get a look at goal and he slotted it inside the near post. We had a number of chances to try to pull it back, but each time the ball seemed to be played just a little too long and their keeper was able to smother it before we got a good chance at it.

            Crewe Alexandra 2 - 4 Blackpool FC
            CRE - Kiwomya 21', Cullen 36'
            BLP - Rose 40', Akinde 45', Sordell 56', 80'
            MOTM: Sordell

It looked like we were going to suffer another loss, but then it seemed like a switch was flipped and we dominated them the rest of the way. Crewe took the lead when Kiwomya played a great 1-2 and got the ball back unmarked in front of goal and he finished it past the keeper. Cullen then took advantage of a poor attempt to pass out of the back by Bennett and he collected the ball and finished it quickly. We pulled one back with Akinde playing Rose through on the overlap and he slotted it low past the keeper to the far post. Just before the half Bennett played the ball to Akinde and he took it out wide to get a shot off and he finished it with a well placed shot to the far post for the equalizer. In the second half we kept rolling with Evina getting down the left and crossing it into the middle for Sordell to head down past the keeper for the lead. Sordell added a second later on with a stunning free kick that he hit with power off the crossbar and in.

            Blackpool FC 0 - 1 Burton Albion
            BUR - Easter 90'
            MOTM: Irvine

What an absolutely atrocious ending to a game. We did little to deserve a win of our own, but the way we lost it was just an absolute melt down on our end. After 90 scoreless minutes we earned a free kick, but it was cleared away and fell to Easter up ahead. He then beat our back line with pace as we could do nothing except watch him get further and further away from anyone who could stop him. He slotted it inside the near post with the last kick of the game and we walked away with nothing.

            Barnsley FC 0 - 0 Blackpool FC
            MOTM: Potts

We put in an extremely poor display out on the field, and with only 2 shots it is nearly impossible to win games playing like that. Even so, the one shot we did have on target, we really should have scored. Despite the terrible form we are in, we are still keeping ourselves in games and giving ourselves a chance to win. We have to get more clinical and also create more chances in general if we want to keep a spot in the playoffs.

              QPR Update 1

Mixed bag of results after week 1 of the QPR season. Losing the first match of the season to Leeds United after a late defensive error led to the only goal of the match. But QPR responded only a few days later with a win in the first round of the EFL cup against Cardiff City.

Again QPR gave up a goal in the second half of a close game but this time they were able to hold on and win in a penalty shoot out thanks to a great effort by backup goalie Ingram who saved two penalties during the shoot out.

So, Blackpool didn't really catch my interest. I am going to be ending that career, and starting a new one.

This will be starting with a low team in the Scottish Premiership and trying to work my way up to competing with Rangers and Celtic. The ultimate goal of this career though will be to try to earn a job in the Premier League at some point in the future.

Grimsby will continue as normal of course

After a disappointing result vs Barnsley, QPR erupted for four goals against Preston NE. With the match tied at 1, the R's changed to a 433 formation as they looked to spark an attack. And that is exactly what happened, youngster Goss subbed on and scored 2 goals in 9 minutes to secure the victory.

                              December 2022

                              Grimsby Town 2 - 0 Crystal Palace
                              GRI - Dembele 13', Boscagli 50'
                              MOTM: Paterson

This match was all us from start to finish. We opened the scoring with Paterson getting down the right and sending a perfect cross in to Dembele for the simple header past the keeper. We then doubled that lead not long after the half when Morrison played Boscagli down the left and he took his time to line up his shot and then finessed it around the keeper to the far post.

                              Champion's League Group Stage
                              Juventus 1 - 0 Grimsby Town
                              JUV - Zyro 53'
                              MOTM: Zyro

With our spot in the knockout rounds already secured, we chose to field a reserve lineup. The decision did end up costing us the top spot in the group, but we are moving on regardless. We had the first chance at opening the score when Harris intercepted a pass from the keeper and went for the chip only to see it come back off the crossbar. That hit off the woodwork would prove a vital miss when Zyro got free in the middle and tapped in a low cross to give Juventus the lead instead in the second half which proved to be the winner.

                              Everton FC 1 - 1 Grimsby Town
                              EVE - Foulds 39'
                              GRI - Boscagli 30' (PEN)
                              MOTM: Boscagli

It's a disappointing draw in all honesty. We were miles ahead of them all night, but we leave with just a point. We got the lead in the first half when Boscagli was taken out by Plea in the box and he stepped to the spot to convert it with a perfectly placed shot just outside of the keeper's reach. They equalized less than 10 minutes later after a short corner was executed perfectly and some nice passing led to Foulds getting the ball in front of goal and he had an easy finish on the near post.

                              Grimsby Town 4 - 3 Tottenham
                              GRI - Boscagli 42', 70', Zaha 52', Maghoma 76' (OG)
                              TOT - Harrison 24', 33', Onomah 90'
                              MOTM: Boscagli

This was quite a chaotic match, and I am happy that we were the ones to walk away with the 3 points. We fell behind when Harrison stuck his foot out to get on the end of a cross just before the keeper could claim it and he directed it into the back of the net. Harrison added a second after making a great run into the box to get the ball unmarked and he slotted it inside the near post. We pulled one back when Morrison played the ball to Boscagli on the left and he turned around the defense to fire it to the far post. Zaha equalized with a great shot from the right side of the box in traffic across to the far post. Boscagli gave us the lead after he won the ball with a tackle and went through on goal and slotted it just under the keeper. We extended that lead when Vieira got the ball from Kessie in front of goal and his shot was deflected by Maghoma back into his own net. Onomah grabbed a late consolation goal after he headed down a cross and then finished it up with an easy tap in.

                              Manchester City 0 - 3 Grimsby Town
                              GRI - Dembele 13', 29', Boscagli 84' (PEN)
                              MOTM: Dembele

This was a good win away from home, and even though City put a lot of pressure on us, we came away with a pretty commanding performance. We opened the scoring when Zaha got past the defense on the right and he sent a low ball in perfectly for Dembele running in to direct past the keeper. Dembele got a second with Kamada getting down the right this time and once again it was a low ball into the box that he latched on to and tapped in on the back post. In the closing minutes Boscagli drew a penalty on the left side of the box and he tucked it away from the spot to all but guarantee the three points.

                              Grimsby Town 4 - 1 Arsenal FC
                              GRI - Vieira 4', Wolf 38', 87', Quiroga 59'
                              ARS - Elneny 41'
                              MOTM: Wolf

Another decisive win, but Arsenal definitely could have made this closer if they took advantage of their chances. It didn't take long for us to grab the lead when just a few minutes in Morris played the ball to Vieira on the edge of the box and he hit it quick and placed it into the left side of the goal. We doubled that lead not long before the half when Harris flicked a corner on into the middle and Wolf was there to head it down past the keeper. They pulled one back quickly after that when Elneny delaying his run to get the ball wide open in the middle and he slotted it in quickly. On the other side of the break Wolf used a bit of skill to get some space and pick out Quiroga in the middle and he slotted it into the bottom right corner. At the very end Osadebe was able to send Wolf through on goal and he took his time to place it into the bottom right corner.

                              Watford FC 0 - 0 Grimsby Town
                              MOTM: Morrison

We really should have won, we dominated possession, created good chances, but came up with nothing. The biggest miss was just before the half when we got Dembele through on goal and all he had was the keeper to beat, but he put his shot wide left. It was 2 precious points lost instead.
