What's going on in your Master League?!?!?

    Team: Tottenham Hotspur
    Level: Professional/20 minutes/-1 Game Speed

    Mid Season Standings

    Arsenal 45
    Chelsea 39
    Villa 32
    Fulham 32

Spurs are locking down the 9th position in the table with 27 points after closing out the first half with 3 straight wins in league play. The last being a come from behind win at Man City on Keane's 87th minute goal to defeat City 2-1.

EPL first half season wrap up

The Spurs started the 2010campaign slowly dropping their first three EPL matches to Stoke City, Wigan, and Liverpool.

After the 0-3 start the Spurs shocked Manchester United 2-1 at Old Trafford. A 3-0 win at Blackpool followed and a third straight win in league play over Bolton had the Spurs poised for a good run for the remainder of the first half.

    Defoe Injury

The optimism was short lived however when potent ST Jermaine Defoe went to the sidelines for the next four weeks with an injury. The lack of speed and finishing up front led to shut out losses at Sunderland and to hated rival Arsenal.

    Defoe back for Chelsea

The timing could not have been better for the return of Jermain Defoe. After the loss to Arsenal the Spurs used the week off to get healthy before a trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea.

With the match tied at 1 in the 81st minute Defoe took a pass from Crouch on the left side of the box and finessed a shot to the top right corner for the game winner.

The Spurs then defeated West Ham, lost 2-0 at Everton, and drew with Newcastle at St. James Park 0-0.

The final home match of the first half of the season saw West Bromwich Albion take a 2-0 lead inside of the first 20 minutes.

With the White Hart Lane crowd stunned in disbelief Robbie Keane answered just before halftime to make the score 2-1 at the break.

Keane didn't waste time in the second half and tied the game in the 50th minute.

Rafael Van De Vaart finally showed his worth by scoring 2 goals in 4 minutes to put the Spurs ahead 4-2. They would win the game 4-3.

    UEFA Champions League

Tottenham's road to the European Championship had them qualifying with a 2 leg tie against Dynamo Kiev.

After a shocking draw at White Hart Line in the first leg the Spurs rallied to tie the game at 2 and advance to the Group stage on away goals.

The draw was not friendly to the North London side as they were entered in a group with European powerhouses AC Milan and Real Madrid. AJ Auxerre from Ligue 1 rounded out the group.

    Results

    Spurs 1 Auxerre 0
    Real Madrid 1 Spurs 0
    Spurs 3 AC Milan 2
    AC Milan 2 Spurs 0
    Auxerre 1 Spurs 0
    Real Madrid 3 Spurs 0

Spirits were low for the Spurs after the 1-0 loss at Auxerre on a controversial penalty. The loss all but guaranteed that the Spurs would not advance to the knockout stage.

The final 16 for the UEFA Champions League title.

Man United, Chelsea, Arsenal, AS Roma, Inter Milan, Bayern Munich, Shaktar Donetsk, Valencia, Olympiacos, Lyon, Copenhagen, Marseille, Sevilla, AC Milan, Real Madrid, and Barcelona.

By securing 3rd place in the group stage the Spurs advance to the Round of 32 in the UEFA Cup to face Italian Serie A side Palermo.

    Transfer News

The Winter Transfer market saw many key players moving on from their current teams.

The biggest signings had Barcelona sending Carlos Puyol to Manchester United, FC Porto acquiring Cesc Fabregas from Arsenal, and Sevilla signing Pique from Barcelona

Bayern Munich also very active in the winter transfer market secured the services of 95 overall rated CB Vandebuurd. At 20 years of age he will provide Bayern with solid defense for many years.

Bayern Munich wasn't finished however as they brought in long time Juventus striker and free kick specialist Alessandro Del Piero. Juventus countered that move by signing German World Cup hero Klose.

FC Porto was not finished after the Fabregas signing as they aggressively pursued and signed Lassana Diarra from Real Madrid, and Louis Saha.

    Liverpool signed Ashley Cole
    Lille signed Michael Owen
    Lyon signed Adrian Mutu
    Roma signed Darren Bent
    Arsenal signed Julio Baptista
    Athletico Madrid signed Pipo Inzaghi
Real Madrid signed Fabio Grosso and Flourent Malouda

Although the Spurs were very active in the market there were no significant signings. The most disappointing news came when Ashley Cole opted for Anfield instead of White Hart Lane. A significant change indeed for the long time Chelsea LB.

The transfer market saw the departure for several players on Tottenham

    Kranjcar-AC Milan
    Crouch-Sampdoria
    Bassong-Celtic
    Kaboul-FC Twente

Promising young defender Naughton was moved to Athletico Madrid on a 6 month loan.

The Spurs also received offers from multiple clubs for the services of William Gallas, Gareth Bale, and Rafael VanDeVaart. All negotiations were promptly shut down for those players.

We will continue to try acquire top level talent. Negotiations have been unsuccessful this year for the following players:

    Van Persie
    Cambiasso
    Kompany
    Ashley Cole
    Srna
    Maggio
    Essien

    Currently Scouting

    David Silva/Manchester City
    Gourcuff/Lyon
    Kaka/Madrid
    Vermaelen/Arsenal

Nice stuff. How do you rate the master league? I just picked this game up Thursday and played a few games and really like the game so far despite the few flaws. Also did you tweak stats for some players or did you leave it untouched?

Did not touch the ratings at all Royce. I've eliminated the majority of the most annoying things about the game by changing my playing style. Player rating changes make work for some. If they do and you have the time to make the changes go for it, but I refuse to do that.

I find ML to be completely addicting because of the depth of it. I think the Winter transfer period was a little over the top but you can change the settings for that.

Scouting, tactics, form, and fatigue ALL mean something in this game.

      Positives about ML

-Viewing stats/tables from all the leagues
      -Season Awards
-Transfers and Scouting are VERY well done
-I like that I can view the teams that are not only scouting my players but negotiating with them.
-UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup within ML.
-Watching the news from other leagues scroll across the top of the screen. Especially during the transfer period.
-Played a game against Real Madrid in Champions League. Ronaldo didn't play because of fatigue.
-Pre Match scouting reports about the next opponent.
-Players leave on International Duty...and sometimes get injured. Lost Modric for 2 weeks.
-Injuries are well done. Defoe 4 weeks, Kranjcar 2 weeks, Assou Ekotto 10 weeks
-Players pick up injuries in training.
-If I want to I can go into Coach Mode in any game.
-Training instructions can be done individually or assigned to the whole team
-Loan a player out and he'll return with experience and progression
-Weekly updates if any of my players progresses because of training and game experience.

This game has shelf life because of this mode. It's a true Career Mode. The sim stats work, player progression works, I can tell when I'm playing against West Brom or Real Madrid, the CPU adjusts formations and tactics based on the game situation and what you're doing, etc. It's a great game IMO.

Good stuff! Thanks for the info this game really is addictive I made some tweaks already but I have noticed the game plays pretty well on the default stats. Also Im looking forward to playing master league soon as soon as Daymos releases his Npower Championship Option file. Also nice goals by Van der Vaart definitely one of my favorite players to bad he is a Spur.

Re: What's going on in your Master League?!?!?

Hey man, I was wondering if you (or anyone) could help me out with some questions I have about PES 2011.

I have done tons of online research but most of the stuff I can find in regards to Master League is for the online aspect of it.

I play FIFA and do like it a little bit after the patch, but there is not much depth to the Career Mode. After reading your post, it has me excited about PES and thinking about the purchase. I downloaded the demo for Football Manager 2011 and the features you talked about in your post sound like Master League offline is kind of like that. Scouting, Negotiations, International Duty, Realistic Injuries, Player Growth....I would love to have these at my disposal for a career mode.

          So my questions are:

          1. What option file do you use for the XBox? I noticed you mentioned Arsenal (my team), but I know they are not in the game to start. The licensing is my biggest concern. I would hate to have only a handful of teams so that each year the Champions League consists of the same 32 teams. I know the powerhouse clubs will most likely be there every year, but I think it would be great to draw some team I'm not too familiar with in the group stage. So how many teams/leagues do you have in your Master League and is it enough?

          2. I noticed you said something about turning down activity in the transfer periods....is it just like high, low and normal?

          3. Have you ever watched a CPU vs. CPU match in the game? I know it might sound stupid, but I enjoy watching the matches sometimes if I have some school work and there is nothing on TV. If so, does the CPU have creative buildup, or do the flaws of the CPU AI really show through with no human control?

          4. Finally, do teams just have random players in their reserves and youth squads? I'm assuming some option files might go very in-depth, but I have never owned this game or seen the work done on these files.

Any help or response would be greatly appreciated and may be the final push I need to make the purchase, or just stick to FIFA. Thank you and hope you keep enjoying PES and your Master League. (Even if you are Tottenham!)

            1. They are there and the player names are real. The only thing that is not licensed is the kit and the team name. I am on ps3 so I can't recommend and OF.

            2. You can change the transfer frequency. I believe it is low, normal and high.

            4. Yes they are random players and when players retire they will come back a few years later as re-gened players at age 17.

Thanks ezio. I also have a PS3 and not that many games for it, so maybe this would be a nice excuse to get a new PS3 game haha....How is the option file community for the PS3 compared to 360? Do you use an option file?

Re: What's going on in your Master League?!?!?

I did sort of a player/manager deal in my master league as I knew I'd have to send the game back to Gamefly for an unknown amount of time. I took WE United from the PES League, edited the uniforms to my liking and took the original ML line-up.

First thing I did was bite the bullet and invest as much in to my youth team as I could. This limited the money I had for transfers significantly but in the end it paid off. When season 2 rolled around I checked to see if I had any new youngsters around. I happened to have a 17 year old striker named Henry who was already a 70 overall. I didn't realize it really was "Thierry Henry" until later when I saw his player model. The same year I happened across a young Deco as well.

Grooming young players is probably my favorite aspect of the Master League, does anyone else have any good/promising youth team stories?

Re: What's going on in your Master League?!?!?

The depth of this mode is what keeps me coming back for more. I'm tired of the struggle to get FIFA 11 to play like World Cup did - and even if I could, the Career Mode over there is so lacking I don't really see much point. FIFA is the game I play with friends, PES is where I get the individual enjoyment. There's just something about how PES masters the emotion of the game. You may not be in as much control as you are when you play FIFA, but the emotion of the game makes up for it in spades.

I'm running with a Chelsea squad right now. Sitting 4th in the table after two heartbreaking losses to Man Utd and Liverpool last night - both which, had I won, would have given me the top spot.

The Winter Transfer window is about to open for me and I just can't wait to see what goes down. I've already had an offer for Ferreira, but had to counter-offer their low-ball bid.

So deep it's great. The injuries, the assistant coaches, the squad tweaking. It's an offline player's dream.

That is exactly what I'm looking for. I have messed around with FIFA settings and making excuses for the Career Mode as I was addicted to FIFA for the past few years, but I just want something with depth. Could you please let me know if you are playing on the PS3 or the 360 and if you are using an Option File? I do not fully understand PES as I have never owned it, but it sounds like with the updates the game provides for full names and the endless files around the internet for kits and leagues, this could end up being a more complete football experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

As a PES newbie myself (also been playing FIFA for the last 5 years), I'll pay forward what I've learned so far.

I'm on the PS3. US version of the game. Using the US Option File that is linked to in another thread here. The Option Files fill all the major gaps in terms of licensing. The US version doesn't go as deep as some of the others for the UK version of the game, but it has what I need, which is the EPL. If I want nPower Championship, that's what I'll throw FIFA in for because that's where that game plays the best.

I am not using an OF because I basically did one myself since I had the game early

If you go to pesgaming.com there is a base one that Mr. Gametight did that is good.

OK, this PES thing is starting to make more sense with each post. Thank you guys very much. If I get a nice base file, like Mr. Gametights, can I add things on top of that? I have been on that website and Gametight has said that he just fills in all the missing info but isnt in the business of making teams or players as it takes too long. So if I find someone who is making more teams and players, will I be able to apply them over the base file? Thanks a lot guys, looks like I will be making this purchase after all.

Normally you won't be able to just copy other files over unless people use his option file as their base and then add to it.
