The thing that helped me the most was changing my camera. It doesn't look as pretty playing on the zoomed out view but I can see much more of the pitch and can stop the cpu thru-balls a lot better.

I'd love to hear what some of your tweaks were
I agree with KG on the camera issue. The Broadcast camera looks the best IMO, but I use the Wide camera to be able to see more of the pitch.

The main reason for my improvement on stopping the through balls is playing off the ball. On defense I make sure I'm controlling a CB or a midfielder and I just mark the strikers myself. This game is not like FIFA where you can just go up to a player and take the ball. Also, the programming/logic for the back 4 in this game is a joke. They sit back, they don't react, they take bad angles, etc. With that being said it makes the most sense to mark strikers yourself.

When the CPU is bringing the ball down the wings I use the seconder defender press button to force a pass. When the CPU is attacking through the middle it's even more important to play off ball defense or at least stay between the player controlling the ball and the striker.
