What do you guys think about the long ball tactic for the cpu. Reason i ask is i played against leicester who uses the long ball tactic, and they played long balls a little bit too much rendering most if their attack useless because they give away the ball so much....anyway to mitigate this? I know some teams uses the long ball as a strategy, but it just seems a bit unrealistic. Any ideas how to make the long ball teams more realistic?? Thanks

Yes, all these tactics are rather straightforwardly implemented by Konami, unfortunately. I would suggest combining Long Ball strategy with low support range (1-3), it gives somewhat more balanced game I feel.

Royce have done some testing in that regard and I think he would agree with these.

Personally, I have noticed that short pass with long range (>6, 7-9) induces team playing long ball over top too, but with a lesser frequency than Long ball and average to large range support. The drawback is that they would use ground through balls more too.

I didn't try myself yet a proper comparison between these two options, opt1: Long ball and support range=1-3, vs opt2: Short pass and support range=7-9. So I can't tell which one works better.

I believe the Long Ball combined with the Counter Attack style is where you mostly see the immediate hoofing of the ball. I found support range 1-3 does help a bit, because you will still see quite a few teams pass above 70% accuracy and even build up attack slowly.

I personally believe the Possession Long Ball tactic represents a lot of the Long Ball teams better but for teams like Leicester you still want them to have that Counter style. Also having the Long Ball style with the build up play to Center instead of Wide causes them to build up more slowly and hoof the ball up a lot less.

I think it is important to consider all of this with most long ball teams is because you want them to look to play risky passes into space and not just pass to an attacker that is looking to just head the ball to another player all the time.

It is ongoing and in collaboration with Royce. He already made: Inter, Juve, Napoli and Roma.

Yes they are! May be only OL is somehow similar. Also Krebstar uses generic tactics for smaller team while we are going for individual tactics for every team in a given league.

We make our best to make these tactics as accurate as possible (Krebstar did too) with some variable success. For bigger teams it is easy to find tactical analyses which allows dissecting more accurately the way the team is playing and trying to input this into the game. For smaller teams, I use sites like whoscored to learn how the team is playing and also some videos. But hell, short highlights (<3-4 min) are really the worst thing to watch to learn about tactical display. There is rarely anything useful in those.

As I said the success is variable but at least the teams are playing closer to their real life counter part compared with default konami tactics. Also I think fluid formations are a must to really enjoy the dynamic aspect of the game.

Of course any help and ideas to improve them are welcome! Any people interested to help making others league are also super welcome!

Yeah, I understand... Royce and me have decided to create our own thread so that the tactics will be added to the OP as soon as they are coming. It will be easier to track.

This might have been asked/answered before but I didn't see it in places I looked. Is it really just 3 spots we can save tactics+formations in ML, or am I missing something?
