I played a first round FA Cup match last night against QPR in a get-my-feet-wet Arsenal ML. I believe I was the home team (although it wasn't at the Emirates, bug?) and lead 1-0 for much of the match. Should have been far ahead but my finishing is rusty.

Anyway, QPR equalized maybe around the 75-80th and I wasted some more chances prior to extra time. I can't say for sure if they went "full red" prior to ET, but I know for sure they did by the start of it. So being the smart manager I am, I put on the gegenpress/counter attack tactic and ripped them apart on the break for much of the next 30 minutes. Still only scored one more, but hey, I need to play more.

For sure. It's far too easy for us master tacticians to outwit the CPU.

Re: PES 2017 Master League Chronicles

After drawing 0-0 with Real Madrid away from home, I demolished them at home 5-0 to make it to the semi-finals of the Champion's League 3rd year in a row !!!! Now the opponent is Borussia Dortmund.

With 4 games to go in Serie A, Napoli -I am - is still clear of second placed Juventus with 7 points and we are close to our second Scudetto title in 4 seasons !!! Edinson Cavani has 43 goals , a new Serie A record so far.

Unfortunately we got eliminated from Italian Cup in Semi-finals by 3-3 and losing in aggregate against Juventus.

After finishing the season, I will play Euro 2020 with Italy and retire...

By the way I always play in Superstar difficulty level

Re: PES 2017 Master League Chronicles

So 2018 is in the books and our first season of top flight football went well enough. We made it to the final 16 of the FA Cup and finished in a respectable 10th place (13-10-15) in the EPL. Manchester United, led by Mourinho, found themselves at the top of the table once again, followed by Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool. City, Arsenal and Southampton all picked up Europa spots for next year. West Brom, Swansea and Norwich will find themselves in the Sky Bet next year.

An early season injury to Dele Alli had us struggling early in the year as we were nearing the relegation zone late in 2018. Our scoring leaders were Coman (9), Lobato (8) and newly added Brazilian striker, Jonathan Calleri who had six goals.

We also strengthened the squad late in the season, adding Borja "Baston" on a free transfer to help up front as well as, Spanish left back Juan Bernat from Bayern Munich for 12MM. Last but not least, we also added former Chelsea midfielder, Charles Musonda from Real Bettis for a nice 8MM pickup. We also added Maximilian Teixeira, a now 22 year old Brazilian midfielder for 19MM. Finally, we also strengthened our attacking prowess a bit with 25 year old forward, Alassane Plea for 9MM from Nice.

We were able to pay for all of the transfers in with departures by J. Kucka, Figuriedo, and a few others. The club also saw a 15% increase in revenue and as a result our salary budget went from 15MM to 31MM and we were awarded with an 8MM bump to our transfer budget to 23MM.

We look forward to the 2019-2020 season as I'm getting my full $60 worth this year with PES 2017!

I moved up to the most difficult setting and I'm having trouble getting good power on my shots and through balls. Is this just part of the difficulty level or am I doing something wrong?

Re: PES 2017 Master League Chronicles

After learning the game and ML with Leicester City, by mid season in my second season I already had all my players including depth around 80 +/- overall. It was too easy to build a strong side. Wins were coming easy here and there. I was head to head with Man Utd for the title and going strong in Champions League after winning it in my first season somehow. So I decided to take a step back and make it some challenge.

Started a new ML with Burton Albion. Very tight transfer and salary budget. Limited skill in players. It was pretty challenging to build up entering the first season (mostly with free agents, but nothing fancy). Highest ranked guy was a Mladenov at 78 (where I have 2 other forwards that were low 70 and more effective most times).

I ended up adding 6 free agents plus Kuciak (G) from Hull and Chalobah (CM) from Chelsea on loan. Rough start with 1 pts from the first 3 games. Our 3rd loss came on the 8th game against Aston Villa after a string of few wins.

Since then we're unbeaten 10 league games but that doesn't mean much with a 8-7-3 record, hanging in 7th place just outside the playoff window. Constant draws from 1-1s to 4-4s of all nature. Top 4 seems to be out of reach.

After a super defensive game specific style in FA Cup, we were able to beat Stoke City 1-0 with a single counter attack in the last quarter of the game. Next up is Everton, I don't think I have any more tricks left in the hat for that one.

Re: PES 2017 Master League Chronicles

(Sorry about the wall of text. Hopefully it's easy enough to read and get through...)

I've completed my first full season in ML and posted some impressions over in the impressions thread. Now I'm looking to start a new ML, the first proper one that isn't just a lot of testing. I'm currently working on putting Papinho & Royce's PES tactics in the game before I start up, so in the mean time I have an idea for my ML and some house rules I would like to discuss and maybe get some feedback on.

THE IDEA - THE FALLEN GIANT
My idea is based on my favorite club in Spain, Valencia. For those who aren't too familiar with Valencia, we were in serious economic problems just a few years ago and despite being one of the biggest clubs in Spain in terms of fan base, budget, stadium, history and so on, we were months away from going bankrupt. I'm not gonna bore you with all the details in an attempt to keep this short, but an Asian businessman, Peter Lim, bought a large share of the club which basically saved us from bankruptcy.

Anyway, my idea is a sort of an "alternate history" where Valencia weren't saved from bankruptcy. If no one had invested in Valencia when Lim did and Valencia had declared bankruptcy, they would've had to basically start the club up again as a new club at the lowest level (in this case they would probably be allowed to start at the 4th level). So in my idea that's exactly what happened and after a few years Valencia has made it into Segunda, where I'll start my career.

I hope and think this idea translates to other teams and other leagues as well and that my setup is easily adaptable for anyone who wants to do the same but with different teams

Here's my idea for a setup so far:
                    - I'll move Valencia into Segunda and move the best of the relegated teams last year, Rayo Vallecano, back into La Liga.
(Edit March 7th) - Moved rules for my starting squad to its own post (#204)
                    - I'll edit the kit to remove the Adidas stripes as Adidas would probably not want to stay our sponsor
                    - I'll use the smallest stadium in the game as both old and unfinished new Mestalla would be lost in the bankruptcy. I'll probably figure out a suiting time to move into a bigger stadium, but I haven't given it much thought yet.

                    HOUSE RULES
In terms of house rules I have quite a few, but I'm looking to add more or change some that might not work, especially for the youth team since right now I find it almost game breaking... The point of the house rules is to make the game more challenging, but more importantly, to add to the immersion and realism by following existing rules.
In my case I'll be based in Spain so my house rules regarding the Squad (rule 1-5) is based on existing rules in Spain. If you play in a different country, change the rules as you want/needed.

                    Rule 1-5: Squad Rules
Since there is no squad registration in ML, I'll use jersey numbers as a way to 'register' players for league play.

                    1. Only registered players can play in League games and a maximum of 25 players can be registered. These are given numbers #1 through #25, where goalies wear #1 and #13. If I want to register a 3rd goalie, he will wear #25.

                    2. Players can only be registered during the registration windows;
                    a) Summer: between July 1st and August 31st
                    b) Winter: between January 4th and January 31st
Any player signed outside the registration windows can not play in league games.

                    3. If I have more than 25 players in the squad, the players not registered with jersey numbers 1 through 25 are considered "B" team players and will wear numbers #26 through #29. If I have more than 29 players in the squad, I'm forced to either sell or loan out players or register anyone under the age of 21 as "Youth player" who will wear a number between #30 and #39 (see rule 4) and will follow the same eligibility rules as "B" Team players;

"B" Team players and Youth players can only play:
                    a) in cup games
                    b) in league games as a replacement for a registered player who is out with injury for at least 150 days (5 months)
                    c) if I have less than 25 players registered in which case B team players can fill the squad and play in league games. In this case they will wear their "B" team number until I'm in a registration window and can register them with a number between #1 and #25 (or bring in someone else and register them instead)

                    4. Youth team players can either
                    a) be registered during the registration windows and will be a full-time member of the squad
                    b) be loaned out
                    c) wear jersey numbers between #30 and #39 and follow the rules of "B" Team players (Rule 3)

                    5. Maximum of 2 non-EU players (3 in La Liga). Players who have been playing in Spain for at least 5 years (not necessarily at Valencia) are no longer regarded as non-EU players.
As I don't know yet how many non-EU players are among the default players if I decide not to edit them, I might have to add some exceptions here for the first season or two.

Rule 6-11: Transfer Rules - Players IN
                    6. Never sign any free agents (especially since all the former Valencia players will be free agents in this scenario)

                    7. If a club turns down my first approach for a player, I have to wait until the next transfer window to approach them again for the same player.

                    8. I can only sign players who;
                    a) are found and recommended by my scouts
                    b) impressed me while playing against us
                    c) are on the loan list (see rule 4)
                    d) are on the transfer list

                    9. I can only loan players who are on the loan list with one exception;
If a player is on the transfer list, I can Loan with Option to Buy. If I loan a player on the transfer list and I play him in 10 games or more, I'm forced to use the clause in the contract and buy him (which means I have to make sure I have the money before I play him)

                    10. Players under the age of 23 (may change to 21) can be loaned if on loan list, but not purchased. Loan deal can not include an option to buy.
Exception; as a European club, any players from South America can be purchased as long as they are 18 years or older. Of course, they will be non-EU and therefore limited by Squad rule #5

(NEW) 11. Any player signed from another club must be registered in the squad the same transfer window he was bought.

                    (NEW)Rule 12: Transfer Rules - Players OUT

                    12. If a bigger club* makes an offer for one of my players, the player's Market Value equals a Buy-Out Clause;
12.1 If a bigger club offers less than Market Value, you must renegotiate once. If they make a new offer which is still under Market Value, you can reject the offer.
12.2 If a bigger club offers equal to or over Market Value, you must accept the offer. Exceptions where you're allowed to reject the offer:
                    a) If the player has been at your club less than one year - a player bought in the summer can not be sold until the next summer.
                    b) If the player is your current Captain (but you're not allowed to change captains as soon as an offer comes in )

*If you're NOT in the top division, any club in the top division is a 'bigger club'. If you are in the top division, use club ranking although I haven't quite figured out how I want to use club ranking so this is still a work in progress.

                    Rule 13-16: Youth Team
The problem child... I'm not sure what to do regarding the youth team yet. One alternative is to not sign anyone from the youth team, but I'm pretty sure that wouldn't stop recycled retired players from entering the game for other teams or by being released into free agency and then signed by other teams? And if not, eventually there would only be old players left in the game with no intake of youth players. So, it's an alternative that limits ML to... 3-5 years?

The other option is to pretend all these retired players all became fathers at a very young age, named them after themselves and somehow they all turned out to be very talented footballers! Or not...

Anyway, here is the basic outline for Youth team house rules although as you can see they are quite incomplete and I need some help!

                    13. A Youth team player can not be promoted until he's 18 years old (19 for La Liga teams unless they're released into free agency at 19?). And squad rules of course apply if promoted.

(NEW) 14. Maximum of 3 youth players promoted per season, but only 1 in each of the following positions; GK (orange colour), DEF (blue colour), MF (green colour) or FWD (red colour).

(NEW) 15. Maximum OVR of youth team player cannot be higher than either
                    a) the Average OVR of your squad or
                    b) the Average OVR of players in the same position (see rule 12) already in your squad
                    whichever is lowest.

Example; Say you want to promote a defender. If the average OVR of your entire squad is 64 and the average OVR of the DEF's (any player with blue position colour) in your squad is 65, the youth team player you promote can not have an OVR higher than 64.

(NEW) 16. A promoted youth team player must be offered a contract extension of at least 2 years beyond the season he is promoted in. The player can not be transfer listed or sold during the first contract extension.
This is to prohibit promoting youth team players just to sell them and make money. There should be more of a long term plan for each youth team player promoted in my opinion.

Let me know what you think about my ML idea and house rules. Any feedback and ideas are appreciated!

Re: PES 2017 Master League Chronicles

I didn't want to make the original post above any longer than it already is, so I'll put my guidelines for my starting squad in its own post. Hope that's ok

Edit March 7; The Players I'll Start With and How To Find Them
To my disappointment I couldn't edit the default ML players (at least I couldn't find them anywhere), so I had to come up with a new idea. I wanted to retain what I like about the default players, mainly that it's a pretty average to poor squad to start with, with players of all ages and without a clear good first XI. On the other hand I really wanted a squad that felt more "Spanish". So this is what I came up with:

                      Step 1
I started a ML with a Segunda División side with default players and wrote down the name, position, age and OVR of all 28 players. I then divided them up first by age, then by OVR and wrote all my findings down. Additionally (and I recommend a spreadsheet for this) I found the average OVR and Age of all 28 players (see step 4).

                      Step 2:
I then went into Valencia's current squad and found players who came from Valencia's youth team (to the best of my knowledge at least) and therefore probably would've been part of the senior squad today if they were in Segunda; Jiménez, Toni Lato, Valderrama, Carlos Soler, Sito and Rafa Mir.

Step 3 Alternative I - Free Agents (the one I went with):
I then went into Edit - Other - Free Agents and sorted by nationality. I wrote down every free agent from Spain, their name, position, age and OVR, around 40 in total

Step 3 Alternative II - Players from other teams
The alternative I was considering but eventually rejected was to pick players from other Segunda División sides. I had some rules to follow (can only pick a goalie/LB/RB/RMF/LMF/RWF/LWF if the team has 3 or more in that position and cannot pick their starter/the one with the highest OVR etc) but in the end decided that it would take away some of the realism to remove players from other Segunda squads. But it's an idea you can develop and use if you want

                      Step 4: Assembling the Squad
                      Again, use a spreadsheet for this I made one which automatically calculates the average age and OVR of the squad as I enter the players' info. My rules were based on "copying" the default players squad and end up with a similar although not exactly same squad. From my findings in Step 1 I was looking to build a squad following these guidelines;

                      Total: 25-30 players
                      Average OVR: max. 64,5
                      Average Age: 24,5 (between 24 and 25)

I put the Valencia players in first, and will fill the rest of the squad with free agents from the list I created in Step 3 according to the limitations on age an OVR.

Let me know what you think, suggestions on improvements etc

Edit: Simplified the guidelines for building the squad.

Re: PES 2017 Master League Chronicles

I started a new ML with VALENCIA CF yesterday.

                          SIGNED:

Tevez, Subotic, Hernanes and Luiz Adriano on Free Transfer.
                          Kingsley Coman as well.

                          SOLD:

                          Gaya, Orellana.

I employed 3-3-4 formation that I used in Napoli and put all left and right backs into transfer list immediately.

In 3 away games I have 7 points, having drawn 1-1 with Villareal is the only point our team lost.

Alves is the main choice as GK

Mangala, Garay and Subotic are forming back three.

Defensive Midfielder is Enzo Perez and central midfielders are Hernanes and Parejo

On Left wing I use Rodrigo although I can switch to Coman any moment

On Right wing I use Nani now but there will be competition between him and Bakkali.

As SS I play Carlos Tevez and as CF I put L.Adriano. He has competition with Zaza, I'll rotate them depending on their form and fatigue.

So far so good, looking forward to buy a dynamic central midfielder and defensive midfielder to replace Hernanes and probably Perez in the long run. I like Parejo, he's technical, his passes are useful.

Tevez is 33 so I'd look for another SS to play in 2 years when Tevez would be probably too old to play.

I'm looking to have a world class striker but it's hard to obtain one. I'm chasing Lacazette as I have 50 Mil. € budget but i don't think it'd be possible to get him at this amount.

I've completed my first full season in ML and posted some impressions over in the impressions thread. Now I'm looking to start a new ML, the first proper one that isn't just a lot of testing. I'm currently working on putting Papinho & Royce's PES tactics in the game before I start up, so in the mean time I have an idea for my ML and some house rules I would like to discuss and maybe get some feedback on.

                            ............
Cool, a lot of point are really interesting, can i suggest you a new rule about uefa competitions and the register process of the uefa team list?

and on PC we can edit also the ML default team with an external tools..

                            maybe you are on PS

I'm definitely interested in registration rules for the European cups. That's definitely something I would implement. I haven't really thought about how to do so yet since I always start with one of the worst teams in the 2nd division so European cups are always many many years away

I'm on Xbox One by the way so I have to do all my own editing manually. But to be honest, I kinda liked to use free agents instead of default players so I think I'll stick to that in the future
