Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
So, an injury to Mariano Pernia at the beginning of the season left me with no option other than to play my recently signed, young, inexperienced Chilean regen at LB. Let's just say Pernia was only out for 2 weeks, but has only had 2 league starts since then (the regen was with the Chilean national side during those 2 weeks). I think he very well could be the next Gael Clichy. His pace and movement stats are crazy good.

With all good comes bad however. My leading scorer and assister (is that even a word?), Vagner Love, is out for 2-3 months with a slipped disc. Rafael Carioca, my stud Brazilian CM, is out for 3-4 months with a torn calf muscle. Henri Saviet was out for 3 weeks and now another 12-14 days. Clint Dempsey was out for 3-4 weeks. Brede Hangeland is out for 7-10 days. This is all happening while I'm trying to make a top-half finish with only three games to play. I'm guessing I'm stuck in 11th with all of the injuries, especially when I still have to play Arsenal. Still, the board love me because I was predicted to be relegated.YNWA

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
So I finally settled on Real Madrid to run with. It came down to them and Arsenal. As they're the two teams I support. I thought about using Bayern or Juventus as they give me somebody to follow in the Bundesliga and Serie A.
But anyway. I start out with an 81 million dollar budget. Right now I'm in the middle of August and the only 2 people I have been able to land is Jeremy Toulalan from Lyon and 17 year old Belgian phenom Eden Hazzard.
Been working hard trying to bring in David Silva and he really wants to come but Valencia is unwilling to sale. Also going after Gael Clichy from Arsenal but having no luck with him either.
This game really makes you work to get guys in. Which is awesome."The academic support at Ohio State, there is no way you can fail. Even if you're giving minimal effort there is no way you can fail."

Why is Saviet still learning from Gomis? I sold Gomis to Lyon for $36 million in January. We're in mid-May at the moment...

On another note, in addition to managing Fulham, I've taken over as Head Coach of South Africa. The team isn't looking too great, but I'll see what I can do with them. My first game is in ~10 days. Right now, we're in last in our World Cup qualifying group, losing 3-0 to Cameroon. I/Ray Hudson, was not manager at the time. We got stuck with Cameroon, Liberia, and Togo in the group; it's not the best draw for an aging, not too good South Africa squad.YNWA

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
I first want to say, I am not trying to start a flame thread; just want honest feedback. I currently play FIFA Manager 09 and want to know what does Football Manager bring to the table that makes it a better simulation of football, to make me switch games? On the 3D pitch i know FIFA manager looks better but not exactly sure what are the other differences. Is it totally custom? Is there somewhere where I can get all custom graphics to make it as realistic as possible for all the leagues? When playing games is it a realistic game of football? I am one that likes to play National Team clubs as well, is that a fun experience in this game with all competitions, etc? I like to start off in the States or South America, are all of those leagues represented in game, or atleast with Mods?Last edited by Hunkerdown; 06-14-2009, 08:12 PM.Comment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Well, the only bad thing I can say about Football Manager is that it can be completely addictive and take up way too much of your time. I had FIFA Manager 08 as well as Football Manager and I can tell you that Football Manager blew FIFA out of the water. The answer to all of your questions is a categorical yes. All graphics, competitions, names, etc. can be customized and edited. I play with the 2D mode, so I wouldn't know about the 3D mode. The simulations of games are pretty accurate and realistic, or at least are better than any other simulation I have seen/used (including FIFA Manager and FIFA09). I just took over as manager of South Africa in addition to Fulham in 2012 and being a national team manager seems pretty awesome (you actually caught me in the middle of a WC qualifier against Togo; its 0-0 in the 13th minute, but I would assume Adebayor will come off of the bench if it stays this way much longer as we both need the win). Every league imaginable is in the game, so don't worry about that. I don't like the setup of the MLS, so I jumped off that boat after I learned the ropes of the game with the KC Wizards, so I haven't really had much experience playing in the USA. I would say that this game is must-buy for all fans of soccer/football.Comment

The MLS is set up correctly in the game, I just don't like the league. The only thing is that, although they are in the game, the expansion teams will not be promoted into the league.YNWA
