It has been interesting reading up on all the trouble they got themselves into. League play is kinda boring. It's almost just show up and win. The real work is trying to keep the team together.Comment

The funny thing is, it's a big problem over there. Also, they were unfairly punished in some ways.badComment

If any of you want some fun, over on Thefmformation.com we do challenge of the fortnights. Most of them are quick.
The first one now is up at http://thefmformation.com/topic/594-...e-fortnight-1/ it's a 5 game international challenge. Takes maybe 45 minutes (if that) to complete. I had a blast but wanted to falcon punch my monitor.
Just a little community thing, if we all want I can set up something like that over here. I don't mind running short challenges and tracking points.badComment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Just had to mention a couple notes from my Rangers save before I did my end of transfer period report...
1) It's hard to get transfers to come in. I can make it to the contract negotiations, but these guys want way too much money.
2) I've gone 45 competitive matches without a defeat.
3) Random tidbit, Six Alex Ferguson was nearly sacked after a slow start, got ManU six points from a title, but ultimately lost to Man City, and then retired. Hired Luciano Spalletti, who left Zenit to take the job at Tottenham, and left to take the ManU job after finishing sixth in the premiership and winning the Europa League. And now, David Gill is looking to become the new President after Malcolm Glazer decided to step down. Lots of activity over at Manchester.Comment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Spoiler
Somehow, I'm in the playoffs for a promotion to La Liga using Huesca. Honestly, I hope I don't win this since I have no talent on this team. I've been living off loans from other teams and half of team will be gone next year. I also have no money, we lose about 500k every month so I guess I need to build my team like Kentucky , live off 1 year "rentals."Comment

Second season finished with Rangers and another promotion. Went 27-9-0 to win promotion by 27 points. Lifted the Scottish Cup for the 34th time in club history and won the Scottish League Challenge Cup for the first time in club history.

Lost 9 players to free transfers, including the retirements of Kevin Kyle and Lee McCulloch (interesting that these two guys have the poorest opinions of me in this game). Those departures freed up over $2 million in payroll, which was quickly evaporated by my guys getting pay raises from promotion. Later on, I let Argyriou go to free up some payroll.
Spent $250k to bring in central midfielder Lewis Stevenson from Tranmere. He'll probably see time not only at MC, but at DM and ML as well. After losing out on several other transfers due to contract negotiations going horrible, I went the route of loans and brought in 7 loans.
ST Dominic Samuel from Reading ($140k value) - kid is a star in this league, scoring five goals in his first three matches.
DR Sam Byram from Leeds ($90k value)
ST Jeffrey Schlupp from Leicester ($400k value)
ST Luke Williams from Middlesbrough ($275k value)
ST Brent Geerts from Standard ($60k value) - promptly got injured and is struggling to break into the side now
DR Steven Whittaker from Southhampton ($825k value) - played at Rangers from 2007-2012, making 150 league appearances and scoring 19 goals
ML James McFadden from West Ham ($160k value) - another older player looking to get first team action.
With the retirement of captain Lee McCulloch, Lee Wallace was promoted to captain (to the delight of the team) and Richard Brittain was named vice-captain. As for Wallace, Sunderland came after him hard and heavy, but after promising Wallace we would gain promotion this season, he decided he would be happy to stay at Rangers. However, I tried to sign him to an extension, which he promptly denied. Still have him locked up for 3 more seasons, but I'm starting to wonder if the Scottish Premier League will be good enough for him. Maybe I should've taken the $6 million. Then again, the fans love him, and they would've likely tarred and feathered me and sent me to MLS or something.
As for me, after signing a one year extension after last season, the board offered me a two-year extension, which I negotiated their initial offer up another $25,000 to $450,000 a year through the 2017 season.Last edited by jasontoddwhitt; 12-07-2012, 03:02 AM.Comment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
I guess I should have known the rules before playing in this playoffs for the promotion. Made the Finals and tied 3-3 after 2nd leg against Las Palmas. I thought I was advancing since I had more away goals than Las Palmas. However, the tiebreaker is the team that's higher in the standing advances if the score is tied. Big fatto me.
However, I should have advanced since I scored a goal in the first leg, but it didn't count on FM. My players were celebrating and all that, and I swear there wasn't an offsides called nor a penalty. I didn't realize this after the game was finished. I wasn't drunk either so I have no clue what happened. Probably aliens.Last edited by Kobalt; 12-07-2012, 06:44 PM.Comment
