Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Man, this board can kiss my arse.
This 19 year old kid was our best mid field player. They made a few offers prior just under 500K and I rejected them all. Trying to get 1 million out of them with intensives. Because he had a 4.5 star potential, and was dominating for us. I knew I couldn't hold him forever. But still. I can't work for a board that does this. I only get 5% of that money. I can't replace him. After already losing two other key players from last season. We can't compete now. I'm so angry.Comment

Started a game with a start date of last Friday, took the Brazil Olympic job to start, only got Bronze because by the time we got to Portugal in the semis, we were down to 3 outfield subs. Couple of weeks later, Derby comes calling while their sitting 3rd. Don't mind if I do.Lions, Tigers, Pistons, Michigan

I didn't know they did anything like that. I just checked out the site and found it. Thanks. I might start one now for Hannover, fresh of their relegation this season.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
After a 2 month or so break from FM, I'm back into my VERY VERY deep climb that I made for myself with my created team, SC Rangers. I had added the database of English leagues down to level 23 (Mid Sussex Division 10)...I made my team and replaced Keymer & Hassocks...and finished 1st in year 1 and got promoted to Division 9.
I had been struggling early on in the new league which is why I took a break in the first place (lost 3 of my first 4 league matches...and got knocked out of all 3 cups in either the 1st or 2nd round).
I went on a run though, where I won 6 straight league games, with 5 straight clean sheets. Since it's this low of a level, there are only 10 teams, so only 18 games in the season. Currently at game number 14 I am in 3rd place but very much knocking on promotions door (top 2 get promoted). I am 3 points back of 2nd and playing the 2nd place team in my next game.
My winning streak came to an end when I had a chance to go top of the table against the 1st place team, but I lost 2-1....but the following game I got a 7-0 (!!!!) win which was just incredible. Hoping that boosts my guys to finish out this promotion run in the last 4 games and get us up to League 8.Teams:

WELLLLP. I discovered you could watch games that aren't your own, which is cool....until I watch the team I need to lose to get promoted win 1-0.
I wound up going 0-0 against the 2nd place team, which sucked...but then winning my last 2 matches. The only problem is so did they. Guess I've got at least one more year in League 9 :/Teams:

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
After finding out about the sortitoutsi play any date of the year database, I decided to start on December 31st with Hannover. Half way point in the season. Going to try and prevent them from being relegated. Already starting in a bad position. I played for 4 hours tonight, and didn't play a single game. I spent the whole time playing with tactics and trying to fine tune the squad.

Playing a Liverpool save that just hit the 2018 WC draw and the US drew Argentina, Italy, and France. Alrighty then.
Also, JK resigned in 2016, and is now managing Panathinaikos. Caleb Porter is the US manager.Comment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
I'm curious what you guys use for tactics? About a year ago I took a high possession tactic with some tweaks and have been using it ever since. I would like to do something different but not sure where to start.
Do you guys build from scratch?
Download a tactic?
Or modify something?
Curious to see what others do...I feel I am bored with my current tactic and really would prefer a long ball tactic but I don't see a lot of options out there. I also don't want something overpowered either...

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
I build from scratch with every save/team. I usually tend to start with something close to what the team used to use if I take over mid season. If I take over start of the year I'll try something I think works best and go from there. I also don't know how others do it, but I don't just use one tactic. I setup all three slots. Usually a control/standard a counter/defensive and a full on attacking. And I am usually tweaking them all through out the season. Small changes here and there. Either based on team I'll be facing, or if I feel something isn't working. I downloaded a tactic once when I first started playing, and won a bunch of games. But I didn't learn anything from it, so I scrapped it. Because I didn't fully understand why it worked.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
I'm very new at this game but what I've done in my few saves is find my best players and put them on the field in their best position...sometimes this creates an interesting asymetric formation but I want my best players on the field to start my games. If any of the guys are good but not great at a certain position, but I need that on the field, I might adjust them to that (In my current save all my strikers are more defensive forwards, but one guy is still in the green as a Attacking Target Man, so I'm playing him as such to get some pressure on their defense).
I tend to up the pace to 3 or 4 and play Attacking to start the game. If I find that I'm struggling to keep possession then I'll switch to more of a counter attacking style but I always want to be playing fast. I like to play structured but allow them to roam from their positions. I usually have my defenders stay on their feet vs. get stuck in...don't like the yellows unless I feel like they're giving up too much possession in the attacking third.
I find that with my teams... having them hit early crosses gives me more scoring opportunities, while looking for the overlap stagnates more than I'd like. Could just be my team though.Teams:

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Speaking of my new save...I was feeling overwhelmed with my climb from level 23, and I had made the save database HUGE so it was taking forever to sim. I still want to play that one, but it was just taking FOREVER.
I started one with the same created team, but made the database smaller and I moved them up to the Isthmian South to feel like I actually have a CHANCE of making the BPL (also wanted to mimic FC United of Manchester, who started at the same level). I did make it tough on myself though, replacing the team predicted to finish in last...So far, 4 games in (holy crap it sims so much faster thank god) I'm 0-4-0 lol...I'm an underdog in every game so my team seems happy to not be losing, so morale is looking good right now!
Have you guys found a way to get a lot of the countries and leagues in without the saves and sims taking forever? Might just be my computer, but I was wondering if there was something I was missing.Teams:

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
If I'm playing a counter style or a tactic where a target man role is the main target of my team, then I will hit early crosses as I'm trying to hit them as soon as possible. If I'm going for a more patient, tika-taka style, then I will have them overlap as my wingers will probably come inside more.
That brings me to the wide partnerships. If your using full-back roles with a support or defend duty, then looking for overlap is pointless because they will be more focused of providing defensive support (me personally I don't use the defend role as you don't really get any attacking support from them). Now when I put them in an attacking duty or any of the wide-back roles, then that's when I look for the overlap, as I usually give my wingers a role where they will cut inside more (either as an Inside Forward or a Raumdeuter), so I look for my wide defenders to supply that outside support.Lions, Tigers, Pistons, Michigan

With this it really depends on how you want to play and your wide partnerships.
