I liked the FM 1886 thing they did a few years back.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***

Well, I just got sacked midway through my first season with AC Milan. After starting off the season well and being in the top 3 for the first third of the season, I went on an eight-game winless streak and fell to 8th place in the league, and that was that. I don't know what happened... We had some injuries, but nothing crazy.

I liked having 12 subs available in Italy. It was nice not having to juggle the lineups quite as much.

I am thinking of having another go in Italy, maybe again as Milan as I like how they do not start in any European competitions, which gives a sense of "rebuilding" them even though they're a good team, as is (though obviously not of Juventus' quality). Maybe I'll have a go with a 4-4-2 or something like that. I've always played with a 4-2-3-1 this year, or occasionally a 4-3-2-1 DM, but sometimes these formations understandably leave a lot to be desired defensively (which is what hurt me at Milan during my mid-season slump... I wasn't scoring very well and goals were leaking through).

I take it that a counterattacking style of play is good for a 4-4-2? It seems like you could get some good counterattacks from the formation with the broad wave of midfielders, though I am a football/soccer novice, so I am just making an educated guess!

        Promoted!

It was a very good season for AFC Wimbledon. Really packed at the top of the table, and throughout a majority of the season, there was always the feeling that a couple bad games could see you tumble down the table. But on the flip side, a couple wins in a row can see you climb up it as well.

Got into the top 7 after 25 matches, and never looked back. Went into the last day of the season in 4th, and 1 point out of 3rd, and the final auto-promotion spot. We drew 1-1 to Crawley, but Morecambe beat Wycombe 3-1, and we moved ahead into 3rd

Found a couple free transfers who were key contributors, and who my scouts think can contribute on the League 1 level. Really just hoping to stay up next year. My ground is not big enough for League 1, but we were allowed to delay the expansion, because we don't have enough funds. We are not in a great place financially, so I'm hoping just to tread water while that gets under control. I have a TINY transfer budget... lol

        On to League 1!

I don't know what it is, but my side can't score...

10 total scoring chances, lose 1-0.
12 total scoring chances, draw 1-1.
7 total scoring chances, draw 1-1.
15, yes, 15 combined clear cut chances and half chances....lose 2-0 in a cup match.

9 matches....2 wins, 1 loss, 6 draws to start the season. But because everybody is taking turns beating each other up, I'm only 3 points out of first place.

EDIT: It's amazing what happens when you tick just one little thing on in your tactics.

          "Pass Into Space"

Suddenly, my guys have turned on the creative juices. I feel like Josh Lucas in the movie Glory Road.

"Okay, you play your game....and you play mine."

Defeated St. Mirren 5-1, Hibs 3-0, and St. Johnstone 6-1. Guys are timing their runs better, they are pouncing on rebounds. The movements are more fluid.

And all I did was turn on pass into space. lol

I'm getting kind of bored playing with English teams. I think I'll start a new save and try and start getting the Hero achievements. Maybe go for the Brazil or Italy one first.

Doesn't San Marino start in Serie D this year, so you have to simulate until they get promoted? I was thinking of doing it until I leaned about that.

Oh, I'm sure there's a Serie D database around then.

                  There's also FC Vaduz challenge

I have a hard time starting a save as a pre selected team. It feels weird to kick someone out of a job at the start of a season, so I can never do it. I always start unemployed and wait for one to open up. Probably sounds crazy, but I've tried a couple times and I had a hard time doing it. Its one of the problems I've always had with fifa and pes, not being able to pick from teams who don't have managers when starting a career.

I do this too, though I'll select a team, then take them over when their manager gets fired.

I've thought about waiting for a specific job to open like that. But my fear is, what if they do well, and I end up just hitting continue for a couple seasons, lol.

Actually I am going to try this. I'm not in any huge rush.

I normally have a list of 3 or 4 clubs, as to avoid that situation, lol.

Past the quarter mark in Year 3 with AFC Wimbledon, first year in League 1.

A 7 game unbeaten run (3-4-0) has us sitting pretty comfortably mid-table. I thin it's safe to say we're over-achieving, we had a 5-1 win in that stretch, but besides that it's been all draws, and a couple 1 goal wins. But I am happy to be banking these points early in the year!

I have been really trying to control my wage budget, and not spending too much, because we are in need of funds to expand the stadium, and update our facilities (basic training and youth facilities). The board is really happy with my wage management, as I have plenty of room in the budget, but as long as we're performing well, I'm happy to be saving the money.

Found a couple more free transfers that have been playing pretty well, and I have a guy I've been watching in the Irish First Division. He's been lighting it up and his contract expires in January, so I think I'm going to try to sign him.

In other League 1 news, S****horpe is having a rough go of it, this year. (edit: haha, I was like, hey why is that cens- oooohhhh)

Tried to do the update for FM, and AVG popped up flagging it for a virus and now the update is paused permanently. Could it actually have a virus?
