Tried starting career with a few different PL clubs and no dice on being able to loan players.

Not sure what the issue is as I see CPU clubs loaning players (Chelsea sent out, Everton received; 2 I've noticed).

I just started a test save with a PL club and was able to make a loan move with the first transfer window budgets disabled.

However you can't make a loan if they require monthly payments, because you have no transfer budget. You can only loan someone if you are only paying the wages. That might be what is tripping you up making a loan.

Also the red text about 0 short term will always be there, no matter what. Its just a warning.

But I’m still having fun with my journeyman 17 save

Huh, that's weird. I paid through PayPal, it was immediately withdrawn from my account like usual, and I got instant access. Did you get a confirmation email from them?

Also, on your loan thing...I also disabled transfers in the first window, and loaned plenty of players out. Like it was said, it must be wages only loans. Unless, of course you got enough of a transfer budget in other ways. You start at zero, but can gain some through selling transfer clauses if you have them.

Do a journeyman and just go where the save takes you. I've played in a lot of countries I would normally never even load or think about before because of it. Its also fun to come across all the different league setups and rules.

Only leagues you've never managed in before? National A with semi-pro? How about a youth challenge where you can't sign anyone and only use the existing roster and the youth setup? Maybe the San Marino challenge? How about Asia, Africa and South America only? India is fun with only 18 games and two cups that act like their own leagues. Or try the random pick a team. I've never done that but always think about trying it.

First off, I want to make it very clear, I'm not trying to sit here and play a game of "shoot down every suggestion made." My problem right now is that I'm missing something to pique my interest, and I'm mostly just hoping someone says something that clicks with me and makes me go "AHA." I like the idea of random pick a team.

Strangely, I've done a few SA/A/A saves, but they never last, I always feel like something is missing, or that I don't understand what's going on there. I might try it again once I have a better grasp of the full game. I think I'm going to do the random team with my usual league set-up, see where it takes me.

Freaking FINALLY went through today. No clue what the hold up was. Not like I asked them to wait a week to cash the check

https://community.sigames.com/topic/...m18-challenge/ is something I enjoyed on FM17. I also enjoyed managing in Hungary

Nothing like coming back from a 4 goal deficit, and getting a point out of it. The player that got a hat-trick against me was my academy player that went to that team.

Also, I'm loving the Segundo Volante role

So I want to start a career after the USMNT failed to qualify for the World Cup, and take them over from there. However, I'm hitting a few problems.
                              1. The latest start date I can choose is Australia (9/25). All the start dates in the future are greyed out. Is that by design? Do they only become selectable after some data update in the future?
                              2. Even choosing the 9/25 date, the game just simulated the season results and had the USA as 2nd in qualifying and Montreal was winning MLS. Is this something where I wait for an update that puts the real results in the game for MLS and World Cup qualifying?

I'd never cared about the real results before, so I've never thought about this or encountered the issue.

Do I just need to wait a month or two?

Even when the later dates work (not sure why they are greyed out) its still going to simulate the results to that date, and the US will more times than not qualify. You'd have to start a bunch of saves and wait for one to simulate them not getting it.

So I'd recommend starting with them as a holiday type throw away manager profile, make them lose on purpose so they don't qualify. If you don't get fired, then retire and add a new manager to take them over with. Probably going to be the fastest way.
