Vela's young and had an injury riddled campaign. He showed glimpses of greatness in the Carling and FA Cup last year, all he needs is a consistent run of games. It's hard to stay in good form when you get brought off the bench for 10 minutes every 3 weeks.

Except other young players rising through the ranks like Diaby and Ramsey haven't had that problem.

It's understandable to have growing pains (Diaby in particular was inconsistent before really stepping it up this year), but at least he showed a lot of promise.

Vela has done nothing but look terrible this year, and while he could be a case like Eboue where he magically gets it together, at least Eboue had demonstrated some skill at right back, and Vela this season has shown little more than zilch.

I agree to an extent with Acid that in all fairness, he didn't play regularly at all and we barely saw him this season at all. However, when I did see him play, I wasn't impressed with him at all. The issue isn't his talent; he just isn't strong enough right now to withstand the Premier League game.

He's 21 still though and like Diaby, he needs time. Eboue is 26 now, so he should be reaching his peak. I'd give him one more season to show us what he can do, but he needs to really step it up.

If Arsene had any faith in him whatsoever he would have given him a run with all those injuries. But the guy does things like forgetting his passport. The guy has had his chance and has delivered nothing.

Send him off to some midtable team where he belongs.

He's 21 he's 22 blah blah blah. You guys have got to be as sick of that as I am. Its time for these guys to put up or shutup as far as I'm concerned.

We have been on the "these guys are so young give them time" boat for about 3 years now. The waiting period is over as far as I'm concerened. These guys need to either shape up or ship out.

Its time to start winning some trophies. The time for excuses about age needs to go out the window. I mean how long are we going to put off all the shortcomings of this team on age?

These guys have been in this team long enough to prove if they have what it takes to play for a club like Arsenal. Some have proven it some haven't. Guys like Diaby, Denilson, ect. Its time for those guys to step and prove there worth for this club.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm ready for these guys to turn all this potential into some actual trophies. I'm sick of settling for Champions League qualification. Even if that just means suiting our best side up for the Carling Cup. This team needs a trophy, if for nothing else than to give this team a taste of winning something.

I agree but spend it wisely. I think Wenger is going for experience this summer anyway. IMHO, Diaby did step up this year and I thought he was solid for the most part in the 4-3-3. I'm not sure about Denilson....he flatters to deceive and I think it's time for him to go

I like the fact we build on youth...it's a lot better than forking out 30 million for someone who could go bust for Berbatov or spending 45 million + Eto'o for Ibrahimovic....

We need experience, but at a reasonable price. With the way Real Madrid and Man City were spending last summer, no one wanted to buy at inflated prices. We have the base of the squad set - just get a keeper and some good defenders and we're set. We already have Chamakh....

His game against West Ham gives me reason enough not to sell him. Didn't play a pass wrong all game. He was like 74/74 or something ridiculous like that.

I don't like the 4-3-3 for us, I think a 4-2-2-2 would work fine. Song and Denilson in back, Fab and Arshavin/Nasri/Rosicky/Ramsey, and then Van Persie/Chamakh. Denilson can venture forward too and leave Song as the anchor man.

I'm in the Denilson camp as well. He is better than Diaby imo. Diaby has the positional awareness of a high school player. Consistency is one of the issues with him as well . He is the most frustrating player on the entire Arsenal squad because you know he has the potential. He just needs to get his head out of his *** at certain times.

You need Denilson when Cesc plays. When Cesc and Diaby played together Cesc couldn't get forward as much because he had to always stay back and cover for one of Diaby's crazy runs.

Denilson is one of those tidy players that half the time you don't even know he is on the pitch. But he keeps the team moving. I think he needs to be a little bit better defensively as he has the tendency to have mental lapses on that end but all in all I think he is the better player between the two.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing Clichy sold if someone like Real Madrid comes calling this Summer. His defense slipped alot this year and he has always been bad going forward. Sagna isn't much better but he atleast is solid at the back.

If Arsene plans to stick to the 4-3-3. Were gonna need some better attacking wingbacks. Its not a pressing need but I would like to see Arsene adress that area in the future.

So are we all in the same boat as far as what we definitely need this Summer?

                  1. Goalkeeper
                  2. 1 possibly 2 CB's depending on what Gallas does. Which looks at this point that he is leaving.
                  3. DM- I think we need some experienced cover for Song.

Re: ***The Official Arsenal "Gunners" Thread***

tough situation as a gunners fan... on the one hand i am dying for silverware as well. this means we clearly need more strength in the middle, depth in the back, and experience all around. honestly, i cannot believe we have not axed alumenia yet. his first leg of the barc tie probably game him till the end of the season, but too many mistakes.

on the other hand - i want (and need to remind myself) of patience. AW has run arsenal with class and has it as a going concern as a business. its profitable! its not debt ridden like man u or liverpool or some billionaire's flight of fancy such as chelski or cithee. i believe that is reason to be proud. we waited longer than this before. !

the reality is... AW has one year on his contract and the modern world will push for rersolution.

as far as the players mentioned

Vela - all hype nothing even remotely delviered. hope for big WC and then sell!
diaby - not a fan. he is not a midfielder we need. he suffers from the same disease as bendtner... one too many touches flu bug. sell to an italian team that will over pay.
dennilson - huge fan. smallish, but good mid holder and phenomenal passer. also, has shown the ability to put one ion the net on occasion. i think he is class and core to our team.
clichy - big fan. lets see how valuable he (and sagna) are when we have a real ariel threat!

So apparently Arsenal are interested in Phil Jagielka. I'm not sure how true the rumor is, but I would be all for this signing.

Those are all sick. In no. 3 he's practically getting tackled and still manages to put the ball in the net.

Did you think Barcelona was going to leave this alone? Especially in an election year. Sky is about as reliable as the rest of the European tabloids they call newspapers.

If or when Cesc goes, Arsenal is going to get paid. Until then we just have to get used to the fact that stuff like this is going to be said.

I have stopped letting it bother me.
