Re: ***The Official Arsenal "Gunners" Thread***
I disagree, because I think we deserved to score a goal. Just because we didn't doesn't mean we didn't deserve to get one, if that makes sense. We created chances, we just didn't put one away.
Did Ipswich defend brilliantly? Yes. But I don't think that means they deserve to win this game.Comment

Re: ***The Official Arsenal "Gunners" Thread***
So, what would make us deserve a goal? Shooting twenty times? I'm not saying we played fantastic, because we didn't, but we played well enough to at least deserve the draw.
In these "giant killer" situations I feel the bigger team is always held to some ridiculous standard. Such as, we must score seven goals all while fighting through their ten men defense. Yet, when they sneak behind our back line and are offsides, and score, they deserve it and should win the game. Why? Because they caught us?
It's just silly at this point. It seems that with this current Arsenal team, nobody can be pleased.
I'm one of the first to call out an awful performance, but that one was not it. We had a hard task, which was to break down a organized ten man defense, away from home. We couldn't do it, so we don't deserve anything. Give me a break.

Scoring a goal makes us deserve a goal. Controlling possession isn't good enough.
We don't need to score 7 goals. Just one would have been nice. Strawman arguments are no fun.
I don't think that's true. We've had a bunch of good performances. But we've had some **** ones too.
We were playing Ipswich. If the same performance was against ManU or Barca, I could understand your optimism. Otherwise your outlook is baffling.
We're never going to face a ten man defense for 90 minutes when we play United or Barca, so that point goes out the window. They're going to attack, not sit back and just stop the game from being played.
Lastly, by me saying nobody can be pleased, I mean if we lose or draw. If win, everyone is happy, period. However, I can still see positives from today.
We went up against a team who made their #1 goal to not allow us to get shots on goal. They put then ****ing men behind the ball. It's hard to break down even a Championship side when doing that. Should we have scored a goal? Yes. Do I think we deserved to score one given our play, yes.
Saying you didn't deserve to score because you didn't score just doesn't work for me. But, we clearly disagree.
As for my optimism being baffling, perhaps I've taken up a new approach to this team and have lowered my expectations. Which I'm alright with, as it's made my viewing of the games less stressful.Comment

Perhaps I've been drinking too much, but to me, scoring a goal doesn't mean you deserve a goal. If a cheap penalty is given, does that mean you deserve a goal? When I'm watching Arsenal, if we're controlling possession and the flow of the game and dominating that aspect, we deserve a goal, like we did today.

We dominated possession and probably should have scored, but our defending was atrocious, and I disagree that the goal was offside. I rewound it several times and it looked like Koscielny played him on. At that goal was the story of our defense. We let up way too many long balls which led to breaks and odd-man rushes for Ipswich.
The positive to the match is that we had most of the ball.
The negatives are that we played horrid defense (especially on long-balls), created too few chances despite our control of possession, had our captain take poor free-kick/corner after free-kick/corner, were poor in our finishing, and gave away the ball far too easily, especially in areas around our box.
First Leeds, now Ipswich. We need to play our A-team in its entirety for the Emirates leg. And hopefully if we do that we'll see the Arsenal team that showed up against Chelsea.Comment

I don't care how many men they put behind the ball. They lost 7-0 to Chelsea, were manager-less, were on a terrible run of form in the Championship, had lost 6 in a row, and they were playing a title-contending EPL team. I'm not saying Arsenal needed to win 7-0. We could have won 1-0. We just needed to win.

By no means am I alright with the result yesterday, though. It angers me, but I'm not stunned.Comment

Yeah, I agree angry is a better word than stunned for the way I felt right after the game. Stunned will be how I feel if we don't beat them at least 2-0 at the Emirates.Comment

Re: ***The Official Arsenal "Gunners" Thread***
"I don't know if it is long ball or it is a rugby kick but it worked for them," said Fábregas. "In England, a lot of teams play like that and it works for them, they create chances like that and it is their football. We just have to put the ball on the floor and try to play football."The Arsenal captain has criticised Ipswich Town's rugby style tactics which, he feels, led to the Gunners' Carling Cup semi-final first-leg defeat last night
While it mostly just makes me think, whatever, just score and it wouldn't matter...I also like the fact he's willing to point out negative tactics. Whether or not they can work, I think we can mostly agree (being Arsenal supporters) that we believe there is a right and wrong way to play the game.
Oh well.Comment

i am not a buyer of this and wish csec would keep his mouth shut. we are in the EPL. its a physical league, its not changing. there are no points or trophies for playing a beautiful game of football. lets just win.Comment

Wenger will win his way (beautiful football) or lose his way. He won't change. I remember him saying before the Man City game that teams like Man City compete by buying the best players and putting them on the pitch together. He said Arsenal's way was a system (the beautiful football everyone comes to expect from us) and that's the way he is going to win.Comment

Did you read the article? He wasn't complaining about tackles or physicality. I realize the headline makes it seem that way, though. He was taking a shot at them putting the men behind the ball and hoofing it up the field. He made no mention about tackles or physical play.Comment
