If he doesn't then he is digging his own grave at this point. I won't feel bad for Arsene at all if he is shown the door. He will have no one to blame but himself.

It will no doubt be a damn shame because he has been Arsenal for the past decade and a half but his pride is going to be the end of the man. Frankly, I think he has lost the plot and have no confidence in him at this point.

Hopefully he does something to change my mind...but I doubt he will.

Re: ***The Official Arsenal "Gunners" Thread***

I understand all he's done for the club and he's done a great deal in putting us in the financial position we are now. What good is that position if we don't use the excess funds to keep the club successful though? I am also aware that both Nasri and Cesc want to go (for completely different reasons) but that plays into my point. We all knew it was coming, Wenger surely did as much as he didn't want to come out and say it, and did nothing about it.

To also say that none of those players you listed would be where they are today without him is a bit of a stretch. They didn't get to where they are with mediocre individual talent and thrive because of a system. By no means do I mean that Wenger had no impact, but those players have succeeded and will succeed elsewhere and very easily could have become the players they are given a different path.

I also never said we should spend at central defense in that rant, although I would prefer if we did add one more with either Samba or Cahill. I love Wenger, I have the utmost respect for him and cannot say enough about what he's done for the club since he's been the manager but it will be almost all for naught if he drives the club back into mediocrity with his stubbornness. Do I really want us to not win any trophies? Of course not, what Gooner would? But similarly to your point about my rant being frankly stupid, to think things are going to get better with the squad being left in its current state is a bit delusional too. We have 1 goal in 270 minutes this season and could quite easily be left out of Europe this year before we're really even in. We need cover from front to back and hopefully Wenger doesn't delay that cover until January. He's brought in 3 in just under 3 months though, so these last 11 days don't seem too promising.

Wenger has brought them to where they are. Is he going to keep them where they should be?
I agree his rhetoric is getting tiring, but he's still a world class manager. He just needs to get his **** back together.

Looking at the squad let's see:

GK: Scezchny - he's not the reason we've been poor. He's proven to at least be capable to win games.
DR: Sagna - pretty close to world class for me. We're fine there
DC: Vermaelen is healthy, but we could use a presence ie. Gary Cahill.
DL: We need some help there too. Gibbs is far too injury prone

Midfield: Ramsey and Wilshere are our present and future. Both will be great midfielders. Song when he doesn't stomp on people is good at the holding role. Rosicky is a reserve player and we are needing some more quality/depth here. Scott Parker would actually be a solid signing in that regard. Good PL player and experience would be great. Would love to see Miyaichi pull a Kagawa and impress

Wings: Arshavin is too inconsistent and Walcott is good, but needs to stay healthy. Gervinho looks great though so far. We can all kiss Nasri goodbye and the rest of our wingers lack experience. Mata would have been good if Wenger didn't take his sweet time.

Striker: RVP is world class, but can't stay healthy. Chamakh doesn't look interested. We need another striker who can score goals and stay healthy.

So for 57 million, Wenger needs:

An experienced central defender ie. Gary Cahill
An experienced central midfielder with balls ie. Scott Parker
An explosive and experienced winger/attacking force ie. Mata
        An experienced and clinical striker

He has 11 days....clock is ticking

It doesn't look great now, but we're 3 games into the season and there's a lot of time to right the ship. I see where you're going with mediocrity, but this team IMHO still has enough talent to be top 4 material. Maybe I am delusional, but I really do think that if our players are healthy and playing well, we're a good team. We do need to sign some players though because we lack depth and injuries will cripple this team

I believe in Wenger although he's really annoyed me with his nonsense the last little while and I do think we will get out of this rut and see better days. I'm optimistic and hope that my faith in this team won't make me a laughing stock lol

Im right with you that our current starting 11, all healthy and no suspensions can be a top 4 club, hell, even top 2 in the league because I believe Chelsea have fallen more than people are noticing (thanks to the attention we're getting) and City aren't quite there yet in terms of cohesion. In terms of how a season actually plays out though, with injuries and suspensions, rest days, all that jazz, we are currently looking at a 4-6 club. We NEED depth and need it before September 1st.

In terms of our transfer money, a great point was made on the Arseblog this morning. It wouldn't take much at all to get Scott Parker from West Ham. They'd be happy with any money.

As for Everton, if we offered them £25 million or so for Jagielka and Baines, there is no way they would turn it down with the financial shape they're in.

We're in such a great position financially that we need to finally use it to our advantage and offer money to the clubs who desperately need it.

Baines would be really great addition for Arsenal IMO great passing and defending and deadly from set piece. I am also slightly pissed how Arsenal missed out on this Mata deal. They could have easily had him for 18mil but jerked around and let the deal fall through pass his clause.

Also for Jagielka I having a feeling we wont sign him as Everton refuse to let him go. Arsenal will most likely sign for Samba who was left off the team sheet for Aston Villa game giving the incentive that he will most likely leave. Tottenham are also in for a bid on Samba.

Chelsea is breaking in a new system and Citeh are breaking in new players with Mancini trying to tinker with the lineups. Both of them are not going to be hitting on all cylinders yet. Hell, same with United as they didn't look great vs West Brom.

It's still a long season left but you're right in that you need depth. Look at Madrid & Barca. Some say that adding all that they did is wasting money but they know they are in for the long haul.

Yes, he was injured for the Wolves opening game but the Blackburn coach said he would return for the Aston Villa game and this did not happen. So it could be either both we shall see. I prefer Cahill over Samba actually because Cahill is an excellent passer for a defender. Which is a skill Samba lacks in.

Tough to say Barry, as there a ton of question marks.

Will Wenger cup-tie Nasri? I assume Gervinho will start over either Arshavin or Walcott, but if Nasri plays, both might sit.

Who can return from injury... Wilshere? Djourou? Rosicky? Gibbs/Traore? Early rerports are Koscielny will be out. I hope Sagna doesn't have to play LB again, as he was clearly uncomfortable attacking on the left against Liverpool.

It wouldn't shock me to see Wenger start both Song and Frimpong in a very defensive-minded 4-2-3-1. Neither can play against ManU on Sunday and a draw sees them through. My guess:

                            Szczensy

                            Jenkinson
                            Djourou
                            Vermaelen
                            Sagna

                            Song
                            Frimpong
                            Rosicky

                            Walcott
                            van Persie
                            Gervinho

If Wenger truly intends to keep Nasri, we'll see him over Walcott. I think Wilshere will be on the bench, but his reported availability is mostly a bluff.

So, apparently we're going to buy experienced players.

"Overall, we will buy. We will bring experienced players as well. People just say 'buy' but it's to buy the right player which is difficult."
Also, we've opened talks with Rennes midfielder Yann M'Vila.
