I feared as much. When he first tweaked the hamstring he really should have come out of the match. Gervinho was warmed and ready to go, Wenger should have acted, because given the opportunity any professional athlete worth his salt is going to attempt to continue. It was up to the Manager to make that move.

I can't stress enough how much we need an attacking mid. If Van Persie isn't scoring were not gonna be very dangerous. Hopefully Arsene sees that and doesn't think that Wilshere is the answer. Wilshere is a great player but a scoring threat he isn't. That is where we miss Nasri and Cesc the most, those two guys could put the ball in the net.

If the Podolski deal does happen as expected (and it should considering Köln might be relegated), I'd say an attacking mid would put us in a damn good position. Podolski would provide cover not only for RVP, but can play out wide on the left as well.

There is still no real cover for Song, as Coquelin is the best option there.

Otherwise, I think we're in decent shape for next year. If RVP resigns and stays.

Also, RVP is the PFA Player of the Year.

There's been rumors about Wenger going after Hernanes since last year, he would absolutely fit the bill. Just read a tweet by FourFourTom that claims deals for Podolski and a central midfielder will be finalized by June, Plus RVP will be staying at The Emirates.

Well, RVP's agent just met with Juventus. I have no idea what RVP will do, but I hope if we finish strong and take 3rd place and sell him on the new transfers coming in he'll decide he wants to stay. But you can't blame him for wanting to look at his options given the way we've handled our transfer business in the past and given our recent trophy-less streak.

At least in the case of RVP we will be able to get full market value if he does go.

His agent meeting with other teams was always going to happen, so that is nothing new there. If we finish 3rd and make quality signings, I think he stays.

I think he wants to stay, but he's prepared to go if it comes to it.

That's my feeling as well. I think he wants a guarantee that money will be spent before he even thinks about signing a new contract. And I don't blame him at all for standing his ground.

In other news Usmanov bought some more shares today. Inching him ever closer to that 30% stake and a seat at the table. I for one am all for. If the guy wants to spend his OWN money on the club, I'm all for it.

Absolutely. His agent meeting with other clubs is just good bargaining on his part. In the end I also feel he'll stay as long as Arsenal hold on to their CL position.

I think he will need to see the club show some ambition. I have a feeling that he has grown tired of just finishing in 3rd or 4th place. Especially when he is getting interest from teams that win trophies. At this point we ain't winning a trophy (outside of maybe a domestic cup if were lucky) with our current squad without some investment.

                            Agreed.

I think it would only take two signings for him to stay, but they have to be the right signings. No teenagers and no prospects.

Which is the exact opposite of Wenger's tired "we are looking for the right signings. Not quality, but super quality" speech because you mean established star talent, and his "super quality" signings always wind up being teenagers with potential.

Podolski is a good sign for the future, though. Quality signing, but he'll be at a bargain due to Köln needing cash and possibly facing relegation.

However, at some point we might need to just drop £20 million + on someone.
