Really LR?? This is Arsenal, where we do just enough to be top 4 barely make the group stage, sneak into the last 16 and flirt with one trophy. When we put finally put together a squad that can compete in the long haul (see 2008 and 2011) we refuse to make the last couple of signings to put us over the top.

Again supporting Arsenal is like being in a permanent purgatory. Good enough to be top 4, but not crappy enough to fall out of it.

This is kind of difficult group, not as much as last year but those away matches are tough. Group C & E will be good groups to watch.

I hadn't thought of it for awhile, or thought of it in this way in regards to our need for a striker, which is that we've never replaced RVP. We lost a player of that quality, and have never made a real attempt to fill the gap that it left in our squad.

          It's absurd.

I like Giroud, I really do but we do need a predator in the box to get goals from nothing. Those guys don't grow on trees and cost big money now. Plus as soon as a guy has a monster season for us, they look to move on or they get hurt.

Anyway sucky away fixtures in this group but nowhere as bad as last year. Roma, City and Bayern should be fun though...

Also did anyone else catch UEFA trolling Man Utd on the low?? When they said "Barca last won the Champions League in 2011 over..." "Hold on we can't say that team name tonight!"

L'Equipe reports that both Arsenal and Roma have had bids accepted for Rabiot. And when asked about it at his presser, Wenger said: "I just put one answer: I don't tell you." Which is, of course, not a denial.

Additional quotes from the press conference as the boss discusses his options up front after Giroud injury

Well, David Ornstein seems to think we're not signing a striker, and will just go with what we have. Which means Alexis and Sanogo up front. But, we're still in the market for a CB/DM.

I have a feeling I'm going to be incredibly disappointed with our moves this Summer. Even after signing Alexis.

Ignoring the DM position that we've lacked for a long, long time is just sad. Not to mention, what else did we really do? Sign a replacement RB, and a CB/RB, who maybe will be our DM. But is he also then our third CB, and second RB?

It's just maddening. We'll have injuries, have zero depth, and fight for fourth. Unless we actually make some serious moves. Otherwise, I don't know if I'll be able to watch us play the big teams this year.

I feel the frustration Krebstar, cause we really started out this summer well. Got a great piece with Sanchez and upgraded the RB and back up RB. (Chambers did soften my annoyance that we didn't sign Aurier). Ospina will play a lot this year too. But yeah, we are crazy short at CF and CB and not good enough at DM. The Carvalho and CB move helps, but we aren't good enough fellas. We are a couple pieces short, (cue rimshot) mainly up front.

What frustrates me is that we won't be able to keep all these guys we have, continue to build and will have to just replace instead of upgrade. Santi, Monreal, and Podolski are probably all gone after this season and instead of looking to strengthen, we will just spin the wheels again next summer, maybe sign a flashy piece, but not address our main issues. We don't have a long window considering how much hell Arsene caught during the past 9 years without of trophy. He looks like he's ready to enjoy retirement soon. The time is now, not tomorrow or 2-3 years from now.

If he can ever get 100% fit and that's a BIG If, Abou Diaby would add a lot right now. It's just a shame that it seems like he'll never be fit enough

He played for the Under 21s on Thursday with Coquelin, Campbell and Chuba Akpom. He looked great but they have to manage his swelling in his knee still after games. We really could use his talents and strength in the midfield. Arsene probably lets him play cup games this year and that's it. Maybe sub appearances in the EPL, best case scenario

So we offered £21.3 million pounds for Carvalho instead of £20 million this time. I'd wish sometimes we'd just pay up and move on. The number is £24 million. Let's get this over with PLEASE!!!

It would be exciting to see a player like him in the team. He would be biggest player in the midfield for Arsenal, which is really needed and also he is a great passer.

Watching Costa for Chelsea, it pains me knowing we don't have someone like that who can finish. His last goal is an example of one that none of our strikers (Giroud and Sanogo) are likely to pull off.

That is the type of quality we need to be real contenders.
