Okay, if we get a good result against United on Saturday, I'll actually start feeling optimistic.

I'm going to be that ******* that refuses to focus on fighting spirit and all that nonsense and instead focus on individual errors which once again cost us precious points. I wonder if some serious changes in coaching could sort out these costly errors which continue to appear.

Also, seeing someone like de Gea play like that brings even further attention to how pathetically long we waited to bring a competent keeper to the club. We had years and plenty of opportunities. Yeah, I'm even bitter about the past today.

So, Ozil has apparently been offered a new contract. The Arsecast Extra this week really made me think about it, but as of now, I'm fully in support of keeping Ozil and losing Alexis. We can not afford the wages for both of them without dropping many other players, but if we could keep Ozil and perhaps continue to build around him, that would be a win for me.

You can afford both, the board just chooses not to afford both.

                    [Stockholm syndrome warning]

Can we afford to pay them both what they want? Yes. Can we afford to pay them both and improve the squad in other areas enough to mount an actual title challenge? Honestly, I'm not sure if we can.

Our first issue is getting rid of the ridiculous wages we currently have for players such as Walcott and Debuchy.

The second issue is that we know we can't compete financially with the Manchester clubs and Chelsea—we can't. They have more resources than we do, and are willing to not only spend those resources, but also use whatever means needed to dodge FFP. We're either too stupid, lazy, or righteous to do the same regarding FFP, but even if we were not, the funds don't seem to be there to compete in terms of wages and transfer costs.

Should we be spending more than we currently do? Yes, we should. However, I sometimes wonder if we can actually afford to pay both Ozil and Sanchez what will be their final large contracts, as well as give them the support which they need to win.

Maybe we can. Maybe we can afford whoever the hell we want and as the warning suggests, I'm suffering from Stockholm syndrome.

Perhaps I'm just being very realistic about our place in the league and continent when it comes to finances. Yes, we can and should spend more. However, I'm not actually sure we have the resources to keep our two top players, as well as do much more than that.

What would I like to see us do? Pay whatever it takes to keep Ozil. Allow Alexis to go wherever he pleases, or try and sell him in January. Improve the scouting and recruitment (steps have been taken) and rebuild the squad around Ozil and some of our younger players to make an actual challenge at a title.

Or, we pay Ozil and Sanchez both, keep them and not be able to add anyone else (if we truly are that financially hamstrung after), therefore battling for a fourth-place trophy.

Hell, maybe I'm just buying into the whole "we can't afford them both" because part of me wants to see it blown up and rebuilt. But that would mean Arsene goes, also.

You most certainly can pay them and fill the squad with depth, especially now with the insane amount of TV money flowing in. Arsenal have consistently been a top 10 richest club in the world, and you should be demanding to act like it.

Realistically we absolutely can pay them, and open up the coffers.

Realistically, Satan Kroenke is our owner, and there's no way he's going to ever risk spending more than we'd make, regardless of how much money is in reserve.

You guys managed to find the only English manager left in either European competition.

Perhaps knocking out our b-side will be enough to give him a shot in the Premier League.

So apparently in the last match they Wenger with a 4-3-3 with Ozil in CM?

I like the formation in theory. Ozil could still do his thing and either Wilshere/Xhaka could play the 8 role.

Been saying it for years but they need a Viera type destroyer in the midfielder.

I thought you guys were getting N'Zonzi?

Or is that not happening because it makes too much sense?

Honestly, there are a bunch of quality DMs that Arsenal would pretty reasonably be able to get right now, even without CL.
