    ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***

If Arteta is the man, I have no doubt he’ll turn to Steve Bould and tell him to sort the defense out.

Also, if you believe Bild, we’re in for the Greek CB from BVB who has a very long last name.

I'm okay with that as I'd rather have a staff comprised of who Arteta truly wants there and not someone he's okay with keeping on. The ending of the Wenger era was always going to mean a large exodus, and I'm fine with that as we need as much change as possible.

To the worries of Arteta being too close to the setup that exists, or some of the senior players, I think that can be a positive. He knows the issues that team has, the issues players have, what could be done differently in training, etc.

I'm excited to give him the keys, and time, and see what he can do.

I read the other day that Jens and Bould would be staying. I’m ok with Bould leaving, but I very much would like Jens to stay.

Last I saw was that Jens was staying and Bould was told the decision was up to him—they'd like him to stay, but if he wants to go they're okay with that.

I don't think Bould has gotten to do as much defensive work with the squad as he would've liked in the past, so it would interesting to see what he could do if given the freedom. A few former players have said in the past that he wasn't allowed to do extra training with individuals regarding defense, and another was told that when Bould first started he shouted/yelled at players after an awful performance and was told by Arsene to never shout at the players.

Yes, victory through harmony, but coddling everyone isn't the best approach.

So the £50M budget pre-sales has been confirmed by Ornstein... it's a good thing we have a decent amount of players to sell.

£50m plus revenue from sales isn't too bad and honestly doesn't seem far from what we've done in the past. The interesting thing will be to see who goes. There is still no new contract for Ramsey—is this it for him? How much can we get for Ospina? Lucas Perez?

The big thing will be who we sell and for how much, but we all knew the squad would not be rebuilt with transfers in the first Summer. Plus, I'd love to see some youth get a shot. They're going to need playing time to improve, even if it costs us now it could pay off in the future.

I'm fully on-board with a mostly transitional year this year, especially if Arteta is appointed manager. We can't fix all of our problems at once, but as long as we address some issues, and sell off more of the deadweight, and finish above 18th, I'll be content.

I don't know if it's a hype train, but honestly, I'm excited about Arteta. It was always more likely that we would not sign a huge name, and as much as bringing in Arteta could be seen as risky, or even stupid, it's also incredibly bold and even forward-thinking.

What if we don't go with him now and we lose our chance? We've been damned by poor timing for years, and this is perhaps a chance when we can time it just right. Could it fail? Yes—but you know what we do then, we try something else.

To those (not here) who are hanging onto the "he's never managed a game, he hasn't managed players" while that is of course true, it's absurd to ignore the footballing education this man has had. It's not as if he hung up his boots yesterday and always had a minor interested in management. It was clear even when he was at Arsenal that hsi future was in management, and he had always been preparing for it.

Compared to someone like Henry who seems to take the potential of managing a club less serious, Arteta has been working towards this for years—he's not some fool who does not know what he's getting into.

Plus, if you don't think he was a leader and managed players during his time at the club, you're wrong. If you watched matches during his time it seemed he was our best on-field captain we've had in many, many years.

                      I'm excited—I hope it happens.

I'm excited about Arteta 3-4 years down the line, and quite honestly I don't even mind being the test club for his success. It's pretty clear that he's respected within the industry already, and if it doesn't work out, well we swung for the fences and missed. I just hope that we don't end up with a Moyes-like situation where whomever we appoint just gets ousted in the first year. It's still difficult for me to understand what it's like going into a transfer window with uncertainty about management.

I don’t see them giving Arteta the sack after year 1 unless people stop showing up to the Emirates over the course of next season.

He actually managed a match, albeit only one, and slapped us around in it, although only winning 2-1. Every indicator points to him being a quality manager, just lacks the experience. No reason we shouldn't give him the chance with the state we're in currently.

                              Appalling.

Plus revenue from transfers. If we look at it that way, it’s fairly similar to past seasons, right?
