Here's a not really crazy prediction: now that the City game is done, Arsenal will announce Arteta as the new manager tomorrow or Tuesday.

Teach us to tactical foul, Mikel.

Could have just announced it at the whistle. I mean he was right there in front of the cameras and everything.

That would be crazy. It’s such a disaster right now. Man.

Curious how much of it is just poor training and it’s “in their heads” as opposed to the whole squad just really is BAD at football? Like do you think we lack quality nearly everywhere? Or is it more that just confidence is SO far gone at this point..

I was not informed of the result until a few Irish lads sitting above me at the NY Giants game gave me the wonderful news.

I think personally appointing a permanent boss after a match like this would be a wildly emotionally choice.

City are a quality side and if you can give me a back 4 that can keep a clean one against that lineup, I would also like the lotto numbers.

As for Arsenals off the pitch nonsense, my statement is this; this wonderful virtual pub forum is for the football, and I hope it stays that way.

If it happens quickly after the match it’s because it’s been in the works well before—not even a week ago Ornstein said a decision is expected soon. Yes, that could mean Freddie to the end of the season, but someone else wouldn’t mean it was only a reaction based on today. If anything, today will have absolutely nothing to do with it.

Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***

Seems like Arteta is becoming more and more likely.

For any non-supporters who wonder why there would be excitement over him as compared to someone with more experience, allow me to offer the perspective many have (I think).

The Emery appointment and the transfers which preceded it showed an attempt by Arsenal to quickly reclaim a spot in the Champions League and to halt the slipping down the table. It essentially was the quick option, or the quick fix. It didn't take, however, and it's now clear that we actually need to start over.

Arteta is more that type of appointment. He'll get time, as we know how badly the squad needs fixing, as well as the overall mentality of the players and how poorly organized they are on the field. Bringing in Arteta shows that we're not going to try and do the same thing as before—we're acknowledging that we need to try something different, and that it's going to take time.

The Emery era was never about building anything—it was always about maintaining a week grasp on what we once had. At this point I'd much rather let go and work our way back up with new ideas and a new approach.

Watching the press conference now—I love what he’s saying and how he’s saying it.

So, that press conference was really special, as stupid as that might sound. It was so honest and the opposite of what you normally seem to hear in terms of how Mikel was speaking. It didn’t feel rehearsed or calculated.

Ornstein reporting that he wants Freddie on his staff which is fantastic. Also, Freddie is starting many youth players for his final match in charge—love it.

Confirmed that Freddie will remain on the coaching staff—thank goodness. I hope he continues working with the young players and stays for several years.
