Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***

I completely forgot about the Gazidis/Mislintat stuff. Hopefully now the structure is set so people can get on with their jobs. How do you feel about the scouting and recruitment team and the ability for manager, executive committee, and ownership to be on exactly the same page? That is ultimately the most important part of this whole thing. While you're overhauling the squad (IMO you have very few veteran players who should stay past this year), you're going to really need to spend that money wisely.

You can't only rely on the youth that you have at the squad now if you're really serious about competing in the league going forward. And yes, Arsenal Football Club should be expected to make a quick turnaround given their history and resources - not to mention the state of the clubs they are directly completing with. All you have to do is look at where Liverpool were at when Klopp took over and how quickly a good plan was implemented. I'm not saying Arsenal should expect THAT kind of success within 3 years, but they certainly should be competing where they belong very quickly and you supporters should be expecting that too. It might be a new book, but if you do it right, you can pen that book quickly.

I guess I'm just frustrated for you guys. I'd much rather have clubs likes Arsenal competing in the European spots than the likes of Sheffield United trying to 1-0 their way into the Europa League...

      Bad news first.

Chambers seems to have done his ACL.

However, Xhaka, Holding, Ceballos, and Martinelli were allegedly involved in full training.

Window opens tomorrow I hope they have a few targets lined up.

Throwing this out there—I'm sure we'll renew our interest in Upamecano in January, and I do think many who criticized Arsenal for buying Pepe and not a defender forget that we were in serious talks for Upamecano, but were not willing to go quite as high as Leipzig wanted due to his contract length. You know, the type of business which is often cited as being good business.

In hindsight, would a defender have been better than Pepe? Sure, but Emery still gets sacked, and we're still about where we are now, I think, as one defender does not fix our issues.

I only bring it up to say that I hope we do try and bring in Upamecano in January, or at least make a deal for the Summer. Here's where my opinion might become unpopular: I'd be fine with moving Auba, especially if he wants to go, to help fund a Upamecano deal, or one similar to it.

With Leipzig sitting atop the league I doubt they sell Upe & Werner in this window unless it’s a buy & loan back.

Don’t you guys have some young CB coming in next year?

I’d be ok with this also. I love Aubameyang don’t get me wrong—but we have lots of talent up front waiting in the wings, and are in desperate need of defense.

If he wants to go, the sooner the better as far as getting better value from him. I’d be gutted TBH, but that’s the nature of the business.

We have Saliba coming back on loan from St.Etienne.

As far as youth CB prospects though, quite thin.

Auba is one of the first established players I'd sell. I think you mentioned it before, but while he is talented, he doesn't really come off as having much of a winning passion. Plus he isn't getting any younger, and his skillset will diminish faster. I fear Laca most on your team as an attacker.

EDIT: Yeah, I know PEA scores more, lol

I’m the opposite, id sell Laca way before PEA. Laca is good at almost everything you want a ST to be good at but he’s not elite at anything. Even at 30 PEA’s speed is a game changer and he’s much more versatile. His demeanor has always been kind of chill but he put in a good shift defensively vs us the other day and I’ve never really heard him complain about being played out of position.

Besides, Laca is 28, so he’s not that much younger than PEA.

Yeah but you’re going to get more money for PEA right? If they’re not going to get an open checkbook Man City style, I think they need to go for the cash and use it to start the defensive upgrade.

Yeah, I'd move Auba before Laca because we could turn that money into two, possibly even three younger players with potential.

                        Happy new year!!

Quite a strong team to start the decade:

Leno, AMN, Papa, Luiz, Kolasinac, Xhaka, Torreira, Ozil, Pepe, Auba, Laca.

Hard to believe this is first time the “big 4” have started up front. You love to see it.

Happy new year you filthy animals.

Probably but I don’t think there’s a huge monetary gap between the two that you’d generate by selling the better player.

Wow. United were admittedly poor—but what a performance from every single one of them tonight. Absolutely buzzing.

How good is LT11 when in his actual position. Wow.

We’ve been THE crisis club, yet we’re only three points behind Spurs and four behind United.

It’s hilarious how they haven’t managed to pull further away from us.
