    ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***

It just gets messier, as the players are unhappy to hear about the 55 who are losing their jobs and plan to speak to the club hierarchy regarding it.

It seems that they were told the pay cut would prevent things such as this, so make of that what you will regarding Ozil.

Here’s what I make of it: Ozil apologists (not saying that’s here) will say he was right and that he wanted specific plans detailed for how that wouldn’t happen, not generalities.

In reality, if true, that’s a calculated load of bull**** made to save face. There’s no way the club could give the level of specifics he most likely wanted, and he knew that.

Lots of hypotheticals, including my thoughts. No, Ozil being part of the wage cut would not save all those jobs, but considering his wage it would obviously help the club.

Silent Stan made a cool 300 million during this pandemic. 2 million is nothing for him.

Also, is this essentially setting the tone for player recruitment, basically saying scouting and data analysis have made way for getting in bed with super agents?

Can’t get excited about any transfers knowing 55 people lost their jobs. Le Boss is screaming somewhere.

Something seems very fishy with all this.

Seeing now more scouts getting the axe...

Also of note, subs and squad size returning to normal for match days.

Worth noting that Stan just covered a £200m debt on the stadium, so...there’s that, I guess.

Wasn't that just a debt restructuring? Instead of owing the bondholders til 2029/2031 Arsenal now just owe Kroenke at a lower interest rate. If we are talking about the same deal back in July. Like the restructuring helps Arsenal in the short term(apparently they needed more still) but long term they'll pay more to Uncle Stan.

Either way, I knew Arsenal was hit harder by no fans than any other top team, but until the Athletic article I didn't realize how much. The more I look at the cuts, the worse I feel about the situation, because beyond the idea that Arsenal couldn't pay these people anymore is that lurking Sanlehi. Cutting three of the more senior and trusted scouts makes it feel little more like a coup, and less like organizational restructure.

Finally looking at the broader picture, and the general running of the club it's hard to look at it and think the 12.5% playing/coaching staff pay cut had anything to do with the operations staff at Arsenal. Just feels like cuts were always coming.

It's honestly a bit sickening, because it's surely unlikely that their salary is the reason for their departure.

To this day I still wish we went the Mislintat route. I feel like it would better align with Arteta, also.

Willian going to Arsenal is more about his wife/family loving life in London.l and less about his agent. I’m sure his agent having other players there helps the move but Chelsea fans have known for years that his wife just loves London and doesn’t want to uproot their kids.

                  Holy ****.

"Departures of Cagigao, McDermott & Clark were indeed the tip of the iceberg. Senior scouts covering France/Belgium, Spain, Italy and Germany have also been told by Arsenal that they are no longer needed today."

We're either entirely gutting, or entirely revamping the scouting department.

Jesus. Feeling more and more like a Sanlehi coup everyday. Hopefully I'm wrong and they are just "restructuring and streamlining" their scouting, but based on the people theyre letting go it seems less and less likely.

I think that was the factor in Willian choosing Arsenal over "more lucrative" offers that have been reported, but I don't think it had much to do with Arsenal's interest.

On one hand, it's terrifying. On the other, I understand that at some point you want to entirely restructure that department and this could be an Edu project.

I feel like the next few days will be continuously surprising.

I read today that he'll be on 100k a week which tbh isn't a bad deal at all. The 3 years isn't great considering he'll be 35 at the end of it but unless the wheels completely fall off like Alexis he should still be serviceable. He's not getting picked for Brazil as often so that should cut down on the wear & tear.

Just be prepared for the worst body language you'll see outside of Cam lol.

On the releasing more scouts story - maybe Arsenal are just going all in with the agent buying? Right now it seems like they have scouts but are also buying players based on agents? Might as well go all in with one method and fully commit to see how it works.

I think scouts are better personally, but if they want to try the agent method then fully committing is the best way.

I think we also cannot forget the fact that Edu came in as Director of Football late last Summer, and this could in fact be his first large undertaking after having plenty of time to see exactly where he thinks change needs to occur.

That's an option I'm allowing myself to believe, at least.
