    ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***

I refuse to believe a club of Arsenals stature don’t have a plan B.

I’d rather see Viera or Marquinhos get more involved than waste 100 million of someone from the Ukrainian League who had a couple of nice CL cameos.

If Arsenal are going splash that sort of money, I’d rather see it done on a midfielder.

I think Viera showed in the FA Cup (I know, lower level of opposition) that he can contribute in terms of helping unlock defenses. Hopefully, he gets a few more chances.

As for areas of need—we're a knock away from having Martinelli up front, and hoping ESR can put in serious minutes on the left. Yikes.

Did Balogun have a recall clause in his loan?

Begging: Eh, he was publicly pushing for a move, so he was begging to go to the team at the top of the league who were known to be negotiating with his club, and also with him. End of the day, he wanted the league and London. Know who else Chelsea tried to sign after Arsenal agreed to terms with them? Gabriel Jesus, but he actually wanted Arsenal, not just a move to the biggest league like a young kid. I've seen the posts—it's a kid pushing for a move—that's it.

Financial: Yeah, the numbers were similar, which is why I'm glad it's not Arsenal doing the deal. I know this club, and even though KSE has put money in, they're not going to always do it, especially if deals don't work out.

Pressure: You know what I mean. That kid won't be given a chance to adapt or succeed due to his transfer fee. It's not about paying off the fee, it's about mentally if he can handle it.

The Story: Arsenal didn't get the deal over the line because they set a valuation and followed it. Know what other clubs do that in the league? Man City and Liverpool. They won't be held over a barrel, and if the price is too high, they're out. The issue in this instance is that Arsenal were dealing with a club who was hellbent on getting the most money possible, and wanted to drag another club in to do so.

January: The month isn't even halfway over, so it's too early to panic. Plus, I know this might be hard to believe, but I'd rather we still think about the future of the club. This isn't a MLB trade deadline where we should sell the farm (money) for the shot at a title. **** that—I'd rather see the club set up to compete for titles for years to come, and have the resources to do it.

Looming: I said it once and I'll say it again—even if we strengthen this month, I still don't think we can win the title. This group is too young and too unproven. I'm just enjoying watching the club be well run and competing.

Pressure: Meh, as long as we're top-four, only the psychos and Talksport DJs will be freaking out and calling for Edu's head.

In closing: I'm happy to see the club I support, after years of being a certified joke meme club, not be pushed around and not gain the reputation of being a club that you can milk extra millions out of for a gamble on a kid who has made less than 50 senior appearances.

Was I excited by the prospect at signing him? Yeah, when we were offering £40m or so. I know, it's not my money, blah blah, but everything I mentioned above covers that point.
Liverpool literally did the same thing to United....twice. First with Nunes and then Gakpo. City outbid United for Ruben Dias when he left Benfica. City only pulled out with Cucurella and smartly so because he's very stinky. For most part they activate release clauses (Rodri, Haaland, etc...). Even going back to when they got Mahrez they beat out bids from Roma, Barca, and Real.

Liverpool was GREAT at identifying targets when Michael Edwards because most managers suck at it. Klopp didn't want Salah and had to be talked into Mane. He wanted Julian Brandt and Julian Draxler. I don't know how involved Arteta is in identifying prospects but if he is then you have a keeper because Ben White, Ramsdale, Tomyiasu, Odeegard, etc... look like steals. I guess what I'm trying to say is that, given what you guys are in contention for this year, there's going to come a time really soon for Arsenal where they're going to be competing for players with teams like us, United, City, etc... I can easily see players wanting to come and play for you guys. Good manager, pedigree/history, great project, London, etc..

I agree, January is a panic window which you can see with us because we are panicky by nature, it didn't go away with Roman. Plus with us sitting 10th and the stigma attached to our club we're going to always come out on the wrong side of a deal. Agents link players with us for fun to get their guys new deals.

It's not even the Chelsea in me that thinks if the opportunity is there you should take it. For ME, only in video games do things like youth projects work out. I'm a full believer in maximizing your window of opportunity. As you can see with us, rebuilds are never easy. Sure I'd prefer we'd had phased players like Kante, Azpi, etc... out over time with sensible but its hard to do that when the fan base is used to high expectations. Our rebuild should have come after we sold Hazard and got the transfer ban. It didn't, our old owner was pushed out, and we're here now.

And cmon man...you know it's all love. I'd buy any of my OS brethren a beer or ten.

So, the further back and into it you look, the more insane it is.

Leverkusen apparently agreed to terms with him this Summer, and with the club but once Brentford were interested Shakhtar said no deal and tried to raise the price. Since then they’ve been demanding more and more until finally Chelsea gave them what they wanted.

Go fleece Barca for Raphina now.

Will be watching the NLD from my Minneapolis hotel on the iPad as I decided to take a last minute trip for the Giants playoff game.

More nervous for the Arsenal match.

Damn, if only I had known. You're probably less than 20 minutes from me.

It was a very last minute decision.

Anyways, Smith Rowe on the bench.

Guys—I have big news (other than North London being red): I've forgiven Granit Xhaka. It has finally happened.

I officially love that doofus. It took a few seasons, but it's clear Arteta has massively helped him, or assisted with others in helping Xhaka's mentality when on the pitch.

Seems Leandro Trossard will be an Arsenal player sooner than later.

I’d be up for that. Can play across the entire front and has PL experience. It’s not the sexiest signing but it could be the one we need for now, and still allows for plenty of Summer spending.

and at £20-£25m whatever number we land on feels alot more reasonable. My brain still hasn't done well adjusting to the new normal of prices, nor adjusted to the fact that we could spend more. The only thing I am not enamored with is his attitude, but I don't know enough about the player nor the overall picture at Brighton to truly hold it against him.

Appears the deal is done, £21m to start, up to £6m in add-ons. I like Trossard on the pitch that I'm pretty happy with this deal all around. Sucks to lose out on the potential of Mudryk, but good to see the backup plan come together and settle quickly.

I trust Edu and Arteta to not bring in a player that they do not believe will cause an issue. Plus, if he does, I know Arteta won't put up with it. It wouldn't be ideal for a situation to arise, but we know it wouldn't be allowed to fester.
